I hope we are able to pull this off. Great job. You gave me hope in Ohio.
I bought a 35 dollar pump that you plug in and let it do the work. Husband does it periodically to take water off after big rain or snow
Thanks for the info
Good idea using the shop vac to create suction, ive always just fed the hose in then cap the end but its not always successful.
Hey Rick, thanks for the great videos. I have a couple questions about the process.
1. I didn’t see you add the extra tarp over the winter cover in your winterizing video. Why did you add that? Is it necessary?
2. When you took the cover off I saw your chlorine floater was in the pool. Did you just put that in or did you leave it in all winter?
3. Did you unplug your sand tank over the winter or can you just leave it capped if its stored indoors?
Thanks!
Answers below:
1. Second tarp I use to catch debris, leaves from tree next to pool. When I remove the top tarp, most debris comes out but some falls to the under cover to be cleaned up.
2. That may have been the winterizer floater. I do take my chlorine floater out for the winter.
3.I did leave the plugs out of my sand filter just to be sure the water drains completely. I put all of those connections in a tub and store it for the winter.
Thanks for the comment.
So quick question I live in Northern Michigan It gets really cold I have the same pool that you have. This is my first year with this pool I'm wanting to drink some water out and leave it partially up as you did We also get a lot of snow. I was thinking of building a lightweight frame with a peak to keep the snow off but I see that you just let the cover set inside. So the excess snow and water that builds up inside of your tarp doesn't cause any other damage to the frame or the sides?
I don’t get a lot of snow so I don’t worry too much about it. Maybe some other person that gets a lot of snow will chime in.
What size pump do you have? I had to upgrade to a larger pump a couple of years ago in order to have enough strength to use a manual vacuum. I would like to purchase an automatic vacuum but I want to be sure my pump is large enough. TIA.
My pump is the original that came with the pool
