    Get an Intex sand filter, it will help you tremendously and its totally worth it compared to those small paper filter pumps.

    It looks like you learned some valuable lessons in closing for next time (probably about now) There are ways to tent the winter cover to keep water and leaves from gathering. And as you've said, use plugs and take less water out. You should be able to condition last year's water with opening chemicals (mostly shock) for swimming. I routinely take mine down every year and store it. I fear leaving it up over the winter will cause the frame members to rust out faster. This also gives me the opportunity to re-level the pad. My pool is quite level. Initially, I had a landscaper level a spot bur smooth it out with a rake and lawn roller every year before setting up the pool.

    Why did u lower the water level so low? That's why your cover sagged so much and ripped...you only have to lower it right below skimmer level

    Thanks for these videos on winterizing and re-opening your Intex pool. I think I'm going to do the same, except I'm going to put pool pillows under the cover for throughout the winter. That will keep the cover from holding water on top and pulling into the pool.

    I called Leslies Pools. They told me what chemicals to put in, how much, at what intervals, to put in #2, #3, the shock, etc. You have to start with the chemicals 3 days before you cover the pool. Also, they said to only drain an inch or two to just below the pump intake, take the hose off of the pump, allow the pump to drain so it doesn't freeze up, then cover the pool. Also, leaving most of the water in the pool keeps the cover from sinking in and filling up with so much water. All that water on top of the cover will (1) rip the cover from the edges of the pool exposing the water to the sun, and (2), could collapse the pool inward when the water gets too heavy. I was totally shocked when I took the cover off and the water was just like it was when I covered it up. You HAVE to keep the cover in place so that NO SUN hits the water. The sun is what makes the algae grow and turns your water green. They make a sealer that looks like saran wrap and you simply wrap it around the edge of the cover, sealing any openings which could catch the wind, making the cover blow up, and exposing the water to the sun. And, yes. I used the garden hose and ran it out to the street to siphon the water off of the cover when I was ready to take off the cover. I am so glad I called them for advice. I had no idea how to close the pool down. This was my first one.

    You dont need tp pump that way....good lord...
    Gravity is your friend, put the hose in, run water in for a second, then take it off the spicket, the water will reverse out !!

    and you don't have to drain the water all out. just fill it back up and put another bag of shock in. You went through a lot more trouble than needed.

    Funny video. What made me laugh the most was that AFTER you used the drill pump and got the cover off, you got out the sump pump. Next time start with that! LOL! BTW, if you get the plugs, you should NOT drain water off when closing. That should keep the pillows high and allow most water to run off the top

    Hey there... I watched your open and close video. I am located just outside Montreal, Quebec and was wondering what state/province your located cause you had great success with winterizing. I am considering a this pool purchase and we get wicked winters two years ago we had a bad snap -35C for about 2weeks... not much snow that winter but last winter got pounded with snow not all that cold

  • @ciennagirl53
    @ciennagirl53 2 года назад +1

    You're supposed to leave the water in it to protect the liner otherwise the cold could crack the liner

    take your swimmer and just go around the sides of the pool while your in it, you will get a circular motion of water going and all the leaves and debre will go to the center of the pool then just scoop them up with your skimmer, works perfect!

    Next time I recommend not draining your water having that floater in a small portion of water meant for 7,500 gallons could have burn right through your liner. Make it easy next time. Phosfree. Pre sold chlorine tabs and antifreeze conditioner. Upgrade pump to a sand filter small little pump is not recommended even tho sold with it

    @matt89447 5 лет назад +1

    Forgot a step. Plugs so water doesnt all dup out. Should have come with your pool.
    2nd issue you poke holes in all the spots on the chlorine bottle. You're only to pop holes in two spots.
    You check how many gallons your pool is and pop a hole there. Not all the holes.
    I believe the chlorine is all gone from the white contain is why your pool stinks. You should buy another one and make just one hole.

    I like your attitude and I appreciate your video because I have no idea what to do with mine yet, but I would call this whole process a FAIL. Wow, so not worth it to put all those chemicals in and then end up with no water and a dirty pool anyway. Now I will have to do more research. My intex pool holds 14,000 gallons and casts over $500 worth of water to fill. Don't want to drain it! I hope you figured out a better way and had easier results.

    Holy Cow, why did you drain it like that? By the time you're done, it's time to close the pool again. Go to Harbor Freight, buy a submersible pump for $30- $50 range, can't remember exactly, attach a garden hose, run the hose to the woods in the back, and go watch a movie.....or 2. The pump works wonders. I emptied 3,200 gallons in 3 hours when I used to empty my pool and take it down completely. Have fun.

  • @penniesfromheavon
    @penniesfromheavon 7 лет назад

    if you put empty milk jugs in the pool before you cover it (or buy a bubble) the water will drain off instead of collecting. wash the cover with basic soap, water and a mop and don't drain the pool so far down (if your going to clean the water and reuse it, don't drain it at all until your ready to open the pool the next season)

    I recommend the intex salt generator you wont need all the chemicals only pool salt the whole year the pump connects right to it then you dump pool salt in then turn the generator on then boom chlorine is made by itself an it has boost mode which is Shock..

      Truly amazing pools. I’d be surprised if Intex didn’t put a dent in the metal above ground pool industry. No pun intended, actually. Must must must be on level land, if you get a rectangle pool the struts must be on a solid piece of pressurized wood or similar. Then, those solid strut supports can not be higher than ground. Those pieces you’ve chosen must be flush with the ground. Lastly, don’t use sand to level the ground. It will eventually become an issue with leveling over time and use. I thought they’re a bit of an eye soar, I should just get metal. But they’re not exactly attractive either. That’s if you care about your over all yard aesthetics. If you build a deck, or drop it in ground ( see Intex in ground on here, many videos, many important directions) and care for it properly you’ll have it for years. Just don’t underestimate the directions.. Skimmer May be the only difference, unless you want to risk cutting a hole into the pool. I use the pool Devil......, it’s excellent. Hook it to the output it creates a vortex, done. Salt water highly advised.

    So all the money you spent on chemicals was for no reason since you still have to end up draining it to clean it. The chemical kit is only for if you're going to leave all the water in it but you pretty much drained yours so really wasn't a reason to use all of the winterization stuff. I was wondering if I could leave mine empty for the winter too because I don't have any storage and no where to put it so I had planned on draining it and leaving it empty or with a bit of water in the bottom but not spending tons of money on chemicals since I plan to scrub it and refill it with fresh water next summer so idk how much water to leave in it.

    • @tinamrie
      @tinamrie 9 лет назад +1

      Lyn Byrd leave about a third of the water in it and scrub it down with bleach then throw some shock in the water. You don't have to empty it completely but if you do want to empty it completely go ahead and then fill it a third of the way and throw some shock in there and cover it. Don't forget to put a float in the center so your cover doesn't sink into the pool from the weight of the snow and water. If you don't fill it back up it will collapse.

    • @lynbyrd482
      @lynbyrd482 9 лет назад

      Thanks. I think we'll just take it down then because I don't want to go out and spend money on the shock because it needs to be cleaned and algae treated and all so I would have to completely empty it, clean it well then fill it back up and go buy a float to keep the cover from sinking which serves no purpose to have to start all over in the spring lol Taking it down sounds like the easiest and cheapest and least risk of it getting ruined.
