- There are 3 Rules of Intex Pool Maintenance:
1. Balancing your water chemistry. This means knowing what chemicals you need to have on hand and when to add them to your pool.
2. Maintaining good pool circulation, like how often to run your pump and filter and how to keep your system clean.
3. Sticking to a simple pool cleaning routine. This includes how often to vacuum and brush and what types of cleaning supplies work best for a smaller pool.
Once you master these 3 basic rules of Intex Pool maintenance, you'll be able to keep your Intex, EasySet, Quickset, Coleman or any smaller above-ground pool clean and clear all season long.

Boy, did I bite off more than I can chew lol
Actually not that bad once you get the hang of it. Those test strips help great.
It’s extremely simple! Add a chlorine puck in your floater once a week and put the correct amount of shock in and all of your levels should stay good as long as you are keeping it clean and rinsing off your pump filter once a week. Also try not to get in the pool if you have lotions etc. all over your body because that can throw things off.
I feel your pain😢
I hate pools. Hate hate hate, with a passion. But my wife and kids love them so here I am
My wife bit now I'm chewing
This video made me decide against getting a pool.
Pool company here, ain't as bad as you think.
Never thought when I bought my son his swimming pool that I'll end up like walter white from breaking bad 😮😅 lol
That a lot of information in one go. I just purchased a cover, chemical starter kit and pump. All I’m after is keeping the water in the pool for the 6 week school summer holidays in the 8’ pool
Wow, I never realised how much effort goes into keeping a small pool!
I feel like I need to go on a course!
Ikr! The maintenance is making me second guess purchasing a 10x30 Frame pool lol
Right?! We bought our first above ground pool this year and I'm truly regretting it.
@@GodsChild145 Yeah Colorado weather doesn't allow for year round use or set-up 😔
@@heatherm5405 really? our water comes on Friday and now I’m scared lmao
THIS is the one and only know-all video for vinyl pools.
Who’s here trying to get their pool ready for the 4th of July weekend?
Jesus take the wheel
Jeeeezzzzz... sooo complicated... going to the lake. Cheers...
Thank you! This is my second year with a pool, but first year with a bigger 10ft pool with pump. I'm learning as I go but you make it seem alot easier. Thanks again!
Currently working on leveling my plot by hand to install an 18’ above ground vinyl pool. I’ve never owned a pool before so the chemical aspect has always been daunting to me, but your videos have helped calm my nerves.
Thank you so much for this video! I worked as a pool attendant in a gated community 20 years ago. I knew about testing chemical levels, emptying baskets, and vacuuming; but I never had to do anything with the filtration system. This video was very straight forward and helpful.
Thank you for making a video specific to these kinds of pools and highlighting the differences!! So hard to find appropriate info online when you’re a beginner - you make it straightforward & less overwhelming, thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! I just got an intex pool and had no idea how to maintain it. This helps a lot.
Oh wow! We just set one up a few weeks ago and boy are we in for it! Had NO idea how much work this is, and we don’t have a clue! Thank you for your videos! We need all the help we can get! 😂
Thank you for the information regarding calcium hardness I was about to add it to my pool intex pool today.
Wow! So much great info. I feel like I'll be back over and over again to this vid over the rest of the summer. Thanks!
Perfect. Exactly the guidance I needed. Thank you.
Thank you we just got an above ground pool and it was a little overwhelming how to keep it clean and swim worthy. This video and cheat sheet help A LOT.
It is my kids got a pool and it works
As a newbie, I so appreciate how clear, straightforward and engaging this overview was! Well done! It saved me a ton of time and mental energy.
This saved your mental energy? It just took away all of mine. I just want a small pool, now I feel like Walter White

But you have to remember, Swim University is a business. They run an entire online store dedicated to selling you anything and everything chemical related for pools, so of course they're going to make a convoluted video telling you how you need this chemical, how you need that chemical, etc.
They're running a pool chemical business, that's where they make they're bread and butter.
This was absolutely awesome and helpful i hope to use this and see how it turns out thank you
What an informative, thorough video.. thanks!
Great video, setting up our intex pool tomorrow and I have been stressing about the maintenance as I've never had a pool before.
It’s not hard at all!!! Test, keep the chemicals right, keep it clean and you will LOVE having it.
Setting up my pool today and this is just what I was looking for! Great video!
Glad we could help!
THIS is the one and only know-all video for vinyl pools. 👏
I am a new owner of an above ground pool. I found this video to be extremely informative. I will be referring to it often.
Glad we could help!
Thank you so much for this video it was very helpful!!
Great video! Thank you!
This was very helpful. Thank you
This was super helpful!!!!
Have a new above ground pool… hard to find cleaners, so I watched this!!!
Tips: buy in BULK and I use my prescription pill bottles once I’m done with them and use a scale and measure EXACTLY what I need for shock and another for chlorine and then you don’t have to open and pour things or mess with chemicals every week, just grab the bottle and distribute it evenly in the pool with the filter on and it takes care of itself and makes things super easy. If you use chlorine pucks buy the 3” and break apart to save money. Last year was a nationwide chlorine shortage and if you wanted to buy any you had to buy it online from someone who was charging 10 to 20 times the price! It was absolutely crazy, so definitely stock up save money and always have what you need to keep your pool perfect ❤️
Thank you for all the info. I've been using too much shock!
Love these videos- Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Thank you, very informative.
Thanks a lot for all the information I learned more than I ever have asking questions from somebody else
Great video, thanks!
Very useful! Thank you!👍🏼
Great tips! Any thoughts on the Remington solar shock free device for Intex pols? Thanks
Wow!!! Amazing thank you!!! Thank you for spelling it all out for us I’ll gonna go to the site right now! Thanks again
You're so welcome!
Please do a video on swim spa set up. We are getting a two sided swim spa today. (Pool area on one side and spa on the other separated by a wall) I don’t know if I treat it as 1 2100 gallon system or do I treat each side as an individual when doing set up and maintenance? There is very little information for swim spas out there, and yet their popularity is growing and dealers are selling more of them than 10,000-20,000 gallon pools. Thank you for doing such a good job of explaining things it is really helpful.
Truly the most informative video
First time ever taking care of pool have an index 2000 gallon pool .
Listened to your videos over and over . So when I set up and started to use 5 weeks ago it’s been a breeze . Water is clear clean excellent water so far . I accident over shocked it when I first did it just had to wait an extra day but since my alkalinity has been about 125 my
ph. Around 7.5-8.5
My chorine has been 3-4.5.
I skim and brush every day .
I use a strip everyday to see my levels every 3rd day take to pool store to get accurate reading .
Lastly I clean cartridge filter 2x weekly and clean it.
Been so happy with pool so thank you to swim university for all the information I got from you .
Also run my pump 16 hours a day .
Wow! You're crushing it! 👍
Your videos are so helpful! I have been looking for one specifically for starting up and maintaining saltwater for my intex. (15'x48"). We used chlorine last year, and water kept going green. Switching to salt this time around. Hoping for a better season. Would love a step by step video that shows what to do once we fill the pool.
How did the salt go?
How did the salt season go?
Great video, thanks for the help!
Glad it helped!
Thank you so very much for putting out such a great, very informative video. I honestly did not know where to start since I set my index 15ft x 48 in deep round pool the one that has the round inflatable ring all the way around the top. Thanks to you I now know where to start so I can start enjoying it. Oh but I’m sure I will be back for more info, maybe even have some questions if ya have time. Take care n Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hey 👋
Needed this
Thank you for explaining this :)
Thank you, we needed that info!
Glad it was helpful!
This is a fantastic video and resource--thank you so much!! I was SO stressed about my new pool, but your video put me at ease. Thank you again! :)
Thank you, very helpful!
You're so welcome!
I love this vacuum
Have to do this much!
Great tip about the garden hose filter. I will order one of those for sure. 😎👍
They have them at Walmart for $20. Way cheaper then Amazon!
Could've saved us so much trouble with the hard water. Our house is on a well in Florida (we call it sulfer water) and the hoses are not hooked through the main residence line. No treatment, straight out of the ground like an artisan well. He talks about adding silver. I'm pretty sure this water has iron in it. Little manganese. And of course, sulfur, sulphates. Calcium. Lots and lots of calcium. You need iron and calcium supplements? Drink a little Florida hose water. Ffs.
What a lifesaver, this video.
Build OP a lifeguard stand.
You'll need about 20 of em if you wanna use em. Those filters only work for about a 100 gallons. They work great for about 40 gallons then parts per million start climbing back up.
My summer wave softside pool has pink spots on the bottom of it , they are in the vinyl . Is there anything I can do to remove these and is it ok to swim in it ?
Ditch the paper filters and get a sand filter. This is what made it night and day difference.
Do you need to use CYA if you are using chlorine that’s stabilised? I couldn’t quite tell…
very helpful and organize. Is there no shortcut to maintenance of a pool?
Suuuuuper helpful video !
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for this!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this
mannnnn im still confused af
Hahaa same here!
Thank you!
I luv my Intex pool ❤
What I've found with my Hottub is once I get my alkaline where it needs to be that everything else holds fine. I use the frog smartchlor/mineral floater
There’s enough cya in your tablets. I only recommend stabilizer for salt pools bc there’s no tabs in the summer.
I was told to adjust the calcium hardness to keep my metal ladder from rusting, any thoughts?
Awesome. TY
Thanks for the great videos. My family and I inherited an Intex pool with a salt water system. I've gone through the "green salt water pool" video, and now I'm trying to combine that one with this one. Any differences I should look out for?
We'll be putting out a Salt Water Pool Maintenance video soon!
In the hot TX sun I lose chlorine and free chlorine fast. In 3 days it will go from perfect to almost non detectable on the test strips. Been thinking of getting an ionizer. Is this a good idea?
See for having a pool up for 5-7 days, Scottish summer 😂 is there any point in using chemicals?
Thanks .. That was realy helpful👍
You're welcome!
for the cartridge filter. Do i need a bleach or plain water if i soak it monthly?
How do you get rid of the-small tiny particles in the pool
YOURE THE BEST
Can Spa Alkaline Booster be used in a pool 12 feet intex pool?
How much powered chlorine shock should I add to a 1800 gal pool? Shocked it for the first time tonight and think I needed 2oz but I didn’t know how to measure and did 4 tbsp.
I feel like i know nothing! We got a starter set for our pool and it told us to chlorine shock it, now the chlorine is too high, also the ph and alkaline is too high. The insturctions didnt even mention CYA. I have put in a ph reducer hopefully it will at least reduce the ph and alkaline. not sure what im supposed to do about the chlorine levels though, Just wait until they are low enough? I have two small children badgering me to use the pool in the middle of a heat wave. Thank you so much for your video, it has been very helpful, i didnt even know you could get non chlorine shock, wish i had seen your video first!!
Thanks!
Is there a way I can modify my Coleman filter so it will run for longer than 10 hours.
very helpful thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great video & info. Thank you! What about the fill line? I had my pool filled but level was over skimmer so stuff on top of water wasnt being sucked in. I let a lot of water out to be closer to the skimmer intake but now water level is a foot lower. Am I doing it right?
Fill it up! You get all the floating bugs etc by using the net aka pool skimmer net every other day.
Easy to understand and love your sheet to help us out
Will i would still use the Clorox Pool tablets and shock it better I feel tho
I didn’t realize you need to do a rinse after backwashing, this explains why I’d see debris going back into the pool. Thank you
What is the best pool filter for a intex 15x42
How do i calculate how much of each chemical for my 8ft easy-up pool?
tq for the infos
Very good video 👍👍
What about for salt water systems..ive got a 15ft intex
Спасибо!
What is the order of chemicals after filling an intex pool. And how long do you wait between adding chems?
Is the shock considered the sanitizer, I'm confused about that part, i try to look up pool sanitizer and it pops up the shocks. Or can I do a liquid chlorine and then shock it with non liquid shock once a week?
I been told to add calcium harness on my above pool 30 lbs
How much non chlorine shock powder do i put in Intex above ground round 15'x48" pool?
I bought a 3x14 above ground pool as a test. If I can maintain a cheap pool maybe I'll graduate to an inground
So is it a different process using well water to fill pool. Last year and this year we’ve had it crystal clear. But now fighting to get the ph and alkaline down to the right ppm. Help
The questions on your videos kill me! I love just going through the comments and reading this and laughing 😂 people are clueless and not using common sense anymore.
I tie a string to my chlorine floater so it floats out with the current of the pool water.
You really need videos that are exactly what we need for our choices of pool sizes.
WHY???? That makes no sense! They all need the exact same thing, you just have to know how many gallons your pool is so you can figure out the exact measurement that you need of whatever brand of product such as shock or chlorine that you use. Every single pool needs to be the same exact pH level, alkalinity level, CYA level they all have to have chlorine in them and be cleaned the same amount of times per week.
Also do you know how ungrateful that sounds??? This is FREE QUALITY INFORMATION and if you looked through his whole playlists he has put up hundreds and hundreds of videos and several videos on each issue. Not really sure what your issue is or was?
What is the best hose filter?
As an alternative to permanently removing the water on the pool I am thinking of doing the minimum maintenance (run pump daily, weekly cleaning and adding chemicals) to avoid algae and keep the water clear. Not planning to swim on the pool any day of the year. May I ask, what are the minimum chemicals do I need on a regular basis?
Take a screenshot of the list in the video or print it out from his website with instructions on what each level should be and which order to add the chemicals in. It’s a lot easier than you think and if you do it correctly and make sure the levels are spot on then you really shouldn’t have to ever adjust anything like pH or alkalinity because it won’t be thrown off. Here’s a tip for you lol I tried to winterize my pool last year so I could keep it up and not have the empty clean put away etc etc wellllll anyways I bought something called a “pool winterizing pill” which is like a little ball that you have the chemicals in for the entire winter so you never have to add chemicals and they make them for every size pool you poke the hole and throw them in the pool put a cover on the pool and you’re done, my pool pill did not freaking work and total waste of money so I had a huge mess to clean and lots of green water and scrubbing the pool out so make sure you get a quality winterizing product and learn from my mistake 😂
