I agree with Sandra, add bubble wrap on top to keep moisture in the bag . Do you still use the hot frog? Where are the pups ? Do they like the winter weather?
First off, there is no wrong way to raise worms, unless you kill them, lol. One thing that may be a benefit for you is to pre-condition your bedding. Have a tote with pre moisten bedding inoculated with biology from your worm castings. When you add that to your bin it is already charged with biology. I personally only use natural bedding, ie shredded leaves, unfinished leaf mold and compost. When I restarted my bins this winter I used shredded leaves soaked in mosquito bits solution, (to kill any fly larva that may hatch out) then inoculated the leaves with the chunky stuff from screening the castings, I also have a good supply of dry shredded leaves on hand in case a bin gets too wet. Worms love moisture, they need it to breathe, the balancing act we all play in raising worms is to hit that sweet spot, that allows us to keep everything moving along. A terrific watering device is a water or juice bottle with a few holes poked in the top, that way the water is more evenly distributed. Happy Holidays, Stay Well!!!!
You'll see big changes in a month, I'm sure! Have you considered putting bubble wrap on the shredded paper to retain moisture?
