Just imagine a medieval time travelling torturer coming to this park and looking at the rides. He would be like, they pay for the pleasure?
I’m going there Friday ! I’m so excited but also scared
I can take a lot, but the swing is freaking terrifying when you are on it. The chair you are in rocks and you are only strapped in with a belt. It is freaking HIGH!
I'm looking forward to ride that then.
@Donnita Coble it auto corrected. Ignore it. 😆
@Donnita Coble actually. No. Ride was autocorrected because I use Rude a lot towards friends teasing about my college work. You don't know me so do not assume.
I grew up in Arlington and a park first year visitor. Texas history includes the good and the bad, but history that deserves to be remembered, not ripped away
Exactly!
16:23 We need a montage consisting of every single Carperbagger ride freak out.
Jacob - You pretty much nailed the history perfectly. It was only after Walt Disney turned down an offer from the mayor of Arlington to build a second Disneyland there, did Angus Wynne go look at that park for ideas on his own. The six flags are, as you mentioned correctly: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederacy and the United States. Back in the day, there were six distinctive sections in the park. The little France section you passed through was once home to LaSalle's River Adventure. A riverboat ride very reminiscent to Disney's Jungle Cruise, but based on the French explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle's exploration in Texas. It was a great ride. Ever since Warner Brothers became prominent in the park did the sections kinda fade away. I work at SFOT as an engineer on the railroad and I really wish I knew you were going to be there... I would have loved to have given you a tour of the past and present Six Flags.
Thanks for the history of 6 Flags
Angus Wynne actually purchased the land and built a theme park. Six flags was the first theme park to be built. Not Disney. It was built to bring revenue and was only supposed to be temporary. The land was supposed to be used for housing development eventually. However, due to the great success, mr wynne decided to expand and grow the park to the expansive six flags it is today.
@@jenniferreed9732 Disneyland opened in 1955. Six Flags Over Texas opened in 1961. So yes.... Disneyland was first.. It was supposed to be temporary... but not for housing... but for the expansion on The Great Southwest Industrial District that was being built "across the street" from where SFOT was built. Over ½ million folks visited Six Flags that first 45 day season and the park was paid for in about 3 years or so and was making a lot of money.. That's when they went on to build Over Georgia and Mid-America. Those are the three original parks.
Angus Wynne built 3 parks didn't he? SFOT, SFOG, and Six Flags over Mid-America.
@@saral2991 That is correct. SFOG was opened on June 6, 1967 and Mid-america opened on June 5, 1971. Those and Texas were the three original parks opened by Angus.
Six Flags in St. Louis known previously as Six Flags over Mid America was also one of the original six flags parks. I know this because it’s my home park.
You are correct Sir! It was the third in line of the three. It's a great park.
Scott Simonson is right. Six Flags St. Louis (Former Six Flags over Mid-America) is one of the three parks actually built by Six Flags.
@@cayoooga And they just celebrated their 50th anniversary!
I know I wasn't tripping.. I was like six Flags St Louis too.. my home park as well.
This brings back so many memories. I grew up going to this park from a very young age and know it like the back of my hand. I spent countless days here in middle school and high school with my friends, as it was one of the places my parents felt comfortable letting us go to alone. They'd drop us off in the morning and pick us up when the park closed for the night. I haven't been in years, but it's nice to know that so much has stayed the same!
According to my mother, was born in the area in 1958 and went to the park when she was a kid, the oil derrick (which is an actual oil derrick) used to be a giant mat slide. She has memories of dragging her younger siblings to the top. When they got to the top, one of the younger kids didn’t want to go down so she pushed them down the slide rather than have to climb down the stairs (no elevator then).
I think I'm going to finally check this place out.
🤣
You really should!! You will absolutley love it except for some of those rides in that "Got Ham" section. lol
You won't be dissapointed.
Riiiiiight.
“Why is this puddle here so milky” had me cracking up and I dunno why
A vintage Baggism 😄
Bagger’s classic perennial question - “Whhhyyyyy?” 🤣
"Why are they doing this to people?!?" Oh, the humanity! Loved your tour of "France". No baguettes there, hmm?
Harley Quinn spin, The Joker and the swings would be the first if run too!
Thank you for making this video. I worked at SFOT when I was a freshman in college. Seeing the park brought back so many memories.
I remember going about 35 years ago and what stood out for me was the runaway mine train. Also that crazy parachute drop (Texas Chute Out)!
I grew up in Arlington as a kid and you did a good job addressing the history and the current park
The Sombrero has been there forever!! And at 44 I still love it! That and the Model Ts I have a soft spot for. I have some old 8mm footage of that park from 1963.
"how is it legal to do this to people?!" 😂😂
Omg, I live in Arlington Texas! Welcome to Texas
I love the new intro. My favorite part is the opossum hiss. (Wheeee)
Thank goodness for six flags over Texas
Yess I love when you go to theme parks!
The old fashioned cars is one of the first rides at six flags over Texas . If a judge Roy scream was the very first roller coaster at Six Flags over Texas in Arlington .
I lived there for 17 years. I grew up in New York and New Jersey. So, I've been to many places you have vloged! Thank you!
Good morning Jacob, your introduction in every new vlog is unsurpassed. All the informations, in a few sentences on the point, brilliant.
Ah, dang; my childhood park! Thanks for giving it a visit!
I was there in the early 70s as a young teen. The roller coaster we were on (not sure of the name or if it is still there) got stuck near the top of the first hill. It took a long time (a couple of hours or so) for them to repair whatever was wrong. Too dangerous for us to walk down. Pity the poor person who had to go to the bathroom:(
I remember Texas tornado getting stuck when I was on it in the late 80s
Mike - in the early 70's you were probably on The Big Bend or the Runaway Mine Train.
The bobsled is the best, judge Roy scream, was my favorite rollercoaster. Haven’t been to six flags in years!
It was a beautiful park back in the 1960s with several sections designed by Sid and Marty Krofft who had a big puppet theater there. I saw them perform several times.
Sid and Marty Krofft were responsible for the construction of the volcano on the Fiesta Train and the change in all of the animatronics on that ride.
I am impressed that you were able to film. I was prohibited to use my gopro when I visited Sixflags Arlington. They said it was for the safety of our visitors. I was disappointed.
If I remember correctly it's only prohibited to film on the thrill rides.
I should have gone with you...
I imagine they got permission.
I just like the first words he says. "Hey you all" I just like it 🦡
I used to live in dallas! Mr. Freezes was my favorite ride that was open when i was there!!:D
Who remembers the Acrophobia ride at Six Flags in Georgia??? It would take you high in the air drop you half way and stop. I loved that ride and Viper. I will say Texas Six flags roller coasters are my Favorite. Fun Times.
I would love to see Jacob and Adam ride these coasters !!!!
Honestly, I was thinking how nice it was to see a park video where Jacob doesn’t torture himself with the coasters.
The "France" section literally just being the smoking section is hilarious
Loved how you pin pointed a lot of the rides while on the Oil Derrick.
Hey My cousins live near there and we go an unnecessary amount during the summer, it’s cool to the you there are
Me to I live by there to
Love waking up to a new Bagger video! Lots of love from California. 💜🕯️
St. Louis was the only Six Flags built that Six Flags has owned in its entirety. Six Flags has a minority stake in Over Texas and a majority in Over Georgia with other people
Those three jokes you made at the intro were something my mom would day lol
I was at Arlington over the weekend. I went there with my sister to visit my dad. This was my second coming to Arlington, the first time was with my other sister and her two daughters.
Love the vids Mr. I have to work all the time so the little free time I have I can watch your vids and go on a mini vacation. Thx! ❤️
You should go to upstate New York and go to the Corning museum of glass and six flags Darien lake
Every time I see New Texas Giant it makes me glad I went on it before it got closed and changed to a hybrid coaster. I do miss it as a classic wooden coaster. For those unaware that big upside down "u" on Mr Freeze is called a Top Hot. 😆 And Judge Roy Scream is an awesome Coaster! It was my first introduction to Coasters and Wooden in particular while Steel Eel was my intro to steel coasters. 😁
I really love seeing the people and crowds back and being so happy in Texas. I guess having fun again is “the new normal”?!
How can you tell they're happy? The masks cover their expressions.
Its the new normal in the USA!
I grew up around the area and would often take trips there! Ive been waiting for this video! Thank you!
Thank you for this one. I've only been there once, about 50 years ago. I was about 3 or 4 and I only remember 2 things from then. There once was a stagecoach ride that took you by the skeleton ghost town. It was nice to see a bit of that still existing on the train ride. The other ride i remember that scared the hell out of me is a long defunct attraction , the Spelunker boat dark ride.
Hilarious narration!.LOL
"The victims" 😂😂😂😂😂
Harley Quinn Spinsanity is a terrifying ride, but it's absolutely gorgeous at night. All the white spots on the edges are are LEDs. Judge Roy Scream is a great old wooden coaster you just may have enjoyed.
The France section used to have LaSalle's River Rapids but the entrance was moved and the ride was rethemed. I used to come here with my family back in the 70's when we lived in Houston. Also went to Astroworld a lot, which was part of Six Flags.
Gordon - before that it was home to LaSalle's River Adventure. Based on the same idea as Disney's Jungle Cruise. The premise was you would ride along with your captain in search of LaSalle who disappeared while looking for a shortcut to the Mississippi River. You would encounter lots of animals / Indians / a Spanish fort where cannons would shoot at you. It was a great ride!
Six Flags built St Louis/Mid America in addition to Over Texas and Georgia so they technically built 3 Parks before the started buying existing Parks. The first existing park they purchased was Six Flags Astroworld in Houston.
This was my childhood amusement park. Such great memories riding the swings 😌. Thank you for filming 😊 the park.
WELCOME TO TEXAS Carpetbagger. I love Six Flags Over Texas although its been awhile since I have been there and I have always lived about 45 minutes from Arlington.
Enjoy and stay safe.
That swing ride looks terrifying 😱
I would get on it.
it’s fun
it’s fun and terrifying at the same time
I can’t believe i still have my phone after riding on the superman
Cliff hanger back in the day!
Fright Fest/Holiday In The Park are the best times IMHO to go Jacob. Glad you visited my home SF park sir!!
Jacob. I think you would like La Vibora. Its a unique roller coaster for sure. I think its only one of two or three still in existence. Its usually our first ride of the day.
The kicker on La Vibora (the Intamin Bobsled coaster) is that there are no restraints on it, period. If you don't Brace yourself (or aren't paying attention) on the brake runs you'll get thrown forward into the bar in front of you and it hurts lol. I made that mistake yesterday.
1) Spanish Flag; 2) French Flag; 3) Mexican Flag; 4) Republic of Texas Flag; 5) CSA flag; 6) US Flag.
It's so fun watching these recent videos, since dallas is my home town. Love six flags over texas!!! The dallas cowboys stadium and Texas rangers ballpark is right there as well.
The park I grew up with and the park I'm going to today!
Your commentary is hilarious on this one! You are the funniest vlogger we watch!
This man is so wholesome
WOW! Scary place, some of those rides look like they can be deadly but I think it is all the Super hero theme stuff. GREAT video thank you.
I do believe your listing of countries is correct. Good job.
“ Believe it or not I remember when it was the original park. I first went in 1965 when I was only 4 years old. It was so awesome then. The dark ride they had was called the Spelunkers Cave, sadly it along with so many Western themed attractions were removed starting in the 1970’s & 80’s. Political Correctness sucks! I think just like when all the classic rural television sitcom’s were starting to be cancelled by the early 70’s is when the ‘Cancel Culture’ first really started, and Six Flags was true to real history and yet it was not going to fit in to the progress(so to speak) of politics. I still have very vivid memories when the world was a much more safe and ‘innocent’ place. Not much at all is left of the park I once knew..I think the only thing still left now is the orange Oil Derrick tower and the runaway mine train roller coaster. But I still remember when the park was so unique and independent of any other park in the country. Actually the orange tower was built much later in 1969 and used to have a Super Slide attached so you would climb up about 100ft with a burlap sack and ‘rip’ down the slide. Before that there was an orange Skyhook cage ride that hoisted you about 150ft in the sky on a cable. Also the Mexico section had an awesome Volcanoe train with animated animatronics like dancing tamales and lava rocks that sang. There also was an Indian canoe that everyone sat and paddled and a Stage coach ride. The Stagecoach would ride past this outdoor saloon and there was an animatronic skeleton playing a piano and also another guzzling a bottle of booze and the liquor would be visible running through his skelie chest. If you go to Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. or Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. you can kind of get an idea what the original Six Flags was like over 50 years ago.”
those close crowds gave me anxiety, haha
Texas is open and doing well.
Love the live mariachi music, so fun!
Visited once as a teenager, loved all the Batman theming and glad it is still there. The Texas Giant was super fun, too.
12:45 my favorite ride when I was seven and still is
I haven’t been to Six Flags in over 20 years. I see it hasn’t changed 😳
Oh yeah, in the France area, originally the history of the park was all around the walls in that area
Beautiful PTC built Carousel!
Welcome to Texas!! Of course I'm out when you're visiting. Hope you have fun during your visit !
That shot of AT&T stadium looked incredible
There use to be a boat ride kinda like jungle cruise in the France section. It was called La Salle's Riverboat ride. It was one of my favorites. It closed around 83 if I remember.
I loved Six Flags Over Texas as a kid, went often, but haven't been in about 20 years. I loved El Sombrero as a kid. Back then it was called Mexican Hat Dance. For a few years, Judge Roy Scream had all the coaster cars in backwards, which made for a fun but weird experience. The Mr. Freeze coaster was where I realized I was too old for extreme coasters, and I was about 25 years old then. I remember when their dark ride was called Spelunker.
I went there about 4 years ago... I thought it was one of the better six flags parks. Love that Toboggan ride
I'm seriously so sad I missed you in the DFW area. If you make it back in October, I highly recommend Dark Hour in Plano, TX!
I haven't been to Six flags TX since the mid-late 80s
Idea visit the Dallas museum of art and The Dalles zoo and the fort worth zoo
Great tour of the park - some, cool different rides!
me and my wife live in north central PA and I'm a Huge Dallas Cowboys fan and as a wedding gift she got me Dallas Cowboys Home game tickets at ATT Stadium in Arlington, Texas and i was So Damn happy about that....and I still remember our hotel wasn't far from ATT Stadium at all we literally could walk to the game and we Did, and i still remember as well were walking I looked down this one side road and said Hey Babe there we go we can also go visit Six Flags over Texas bc Six Flags in Arlington is only a Hop, Skip, and a Jump away from ATT Stadium you can see the coasters from the stadium
I used too work there several years ago! It was fun. I ran the rides The Teacups & The Carousel
You’re in my neck of the woods, how exciting! Plus you came at a great time of year before it gets to be 1000 degrees outside.
this ride has been around a long time..when it came to my county fair every year it was called the "Trabant"...first time i rode it when i was young i almost soiled my drawers because i rode it alone and i was sliding around and i thought i was gonna get dumped out of it
The original Six Flags!
Made many a trip to Six Flags in the seventies thru the eighties, was most fun at night. Once you reach your mid-late thirties, some of those rides are quite terrifying.
Say whatever You Wanna Say,Nothing Beats Sixflags Magic Mountain❤️
Thanks Jacob!
I noticed that Jacob and I would ride the same rides at theme parks. I'm a whimp just like him. Thanks for the video!
Your commentary had me weak🤣. There's two skeletons rotating in that building🤣🤣
Every time I ride the titan, I almost pass out from the spiral
Dude! You are like 20 minutes from me! Nice!
This park has ties to Disneyland in that it was built by C.V. Wood, a guy who basically scammed money from Walt. He was fired, but he took the plans to Disneyland, built Freedomland USA, attempted to build a similar hub and spoke park elsewhere, failed miserably, and then built Six Flags Over Texas. It was Woods’ biggest post-Disneyland success and was the first theme park he built that did not follow the hub and spoke style that Disneyland has and Freedomland had.
Always good to see your smiley happy face Jacob 😁👍🏻x
I miss six flags to bad Arlington such a tough area thes days i feel like im going in a prisen when i go into six flags not a place id wont to live
The nearby highway, Highway 360 going north/south next to Six Flags and between Arlington and Grand Prairie, is officially the Angus G Wynne Jr Freeway, though the DOT has not kept up with the signage along the route. He developed one of the early, and still largest, industrial park areas, back when the highway was a spur leading through empty fields, more or less bringing Arlington and Grand Prairie to life. The funfair and eventually amusement park was a sideline to use an area of the properties that had not been developed yet.
What an awesome trip down memory lane! Six Flags Over Texas will always have a special place in my heart
Also... psst... if you're still in the Dallas area for the rest of the week, the Scarborough Renaissance Faire in Waxahachie starts on the 10th. Live jousting, theater, quirky museums and stores, a tons of hidden little secrets, and a haunted house! Sounds like your kind of thing lol
Holly crap right down the road from me man if only I knew I could try to meet you hope you enjoyed the trip.
I remember my old highschool had a little fair one year, cheap rides, and expensive games. They had a ride like the El Diablo one, first i've ridden a ride, and the last. Thing must have been held together with duct tape and gum haha. Love your videos! Been watching you for years, such a great person!
