This is my original hometown park. I use to go all the time when I was young and it was called Riverside Park. Was glad Six Flags purchased it and made a lot of great changes. It’s a fun park but they need to extend it and put more rides.

Judging by Six Flags Darien Lake, which is "my" (sort of) local amusement Park, the Six Flags people do a good job on the upkeep on the interior of their parks. But they are shysters! How do they justify $20 to park in a lot that is not paved and full of potholes? (Note: that was the parking fee in 2019, last time I set foot on their grounds. Inflation has hit since then. Now, yeah, it's probably $40. For all the potholes your car can eat. And I didn't even mention all the other stuff they rape your wallet for. Like food.)
So I forewent Six Flags last time I got bitten by the amusement park bug and I went to Kennywood and Midway State Park last year. Worth the trips.

Hybrid coaster is actually the correct term for either a wooden coaster with steel supports or, as in this case, a steel coaster with wooden supports. I believe the one in this video is an RMC (Rocky Mountain Construction), a company mostly known for converting old wooden coasters that are at the end of their life to steel hybrid coasters.
I use to buy my season pass at Great Escape because the season pass was only $59. And got you into all the parks. It was a really good deal before Covid.

I remember going there when it was still Riverside Park. When my dad was young, he used to work on an auto racing team that regularly raced on the tiny track that used to be in the park. Unfortunately, the race track is no longer there. I believe the Superman ride was built in its place.

They turn the Houdini ride into a haunted house during Fright Fest
As of 2023 the park has finally separated the haunt from the ride so Houdini - The Great Escape can now operate during Fright Fest!

I'm so glad to see the Houdini ride is still there. That was my favorite attraction from back when the park was still Riverside.
I really dig the idea at 25:00 of the different areas of the park having a sports rivalry. That's hilarious
When I was a teenager and twenty-something, back in the 80's and early 90's, me and my friends would go to this place every week during the summer. It's only a 45 minute drive from where I live. I live about fifteen minutes from Lake Compounce in Ct. This park was called Riverside Park back then and it was different. It was long before Six Flags swooped in and scooped it up. The place is still "Riverside Park" in my head and I still remember my way around it and where all the rides were. The park looks completely alien to me right now, and it's lost quite a bit of the charm it had when it was Riverside Park. There's very little I recognize. The Thunderbolt is still there, but a lot of the rides we used to enjoy are gone. One of our favorite rides was on the roof of the building right next to the entrance to the Thunderbolt entrance. It was a ride called "The Rotor". You would go into this cylindrical room, and you would all stand against the wall. the room would spin and you would stick to the wall, and then the floor would drop out from under you leaving you about 8 feet up above it stuck to the wall.

He is an amazing guy I’ve watched him literally from the beginning I think little over 6-7 years ago. He has came so far. He used to do tours of abandon and condemned places. He is an ex social worker as well and it shows. He is an extremely great guy!

Yes! Riverside park! Great childhood memories there when I was a kid and lived in upstate ny..
I grew up in Enfield CT, just a short 15 minute drive away on the other side of the Connecticut River. As such, I've been visiting Six Flags New England since the early 1970s, when it was Riverside Park. That carousel and the roller-coaster, The Thunderbolt predate me, and so I've been seeing them for more than 50 years.
I used to go there every weekend. We ran a stock car at the track on Saturday night. Early 90s

I did not go to the races at Riverside Speedway, though indeed I remembered them, but back in June of 1996 I did go to a concert at the race track. They had a few bands, and I recall two of them. One was DC TALK, and the other was AUDIO ADRENALINE.
Did you win any races, and did you travel to other racetracks?
Was in victory lane guite a few times. Ran Stafford and Tompson Speedway too.

Looks like fun, but Six Flags really needs to get a few dark rides into this park.
Not that its a dark ride but Gotham City Gauntlet was originally supposed to be a dark ride coaster all indoors with effects and such. They even built the structure and they somehow fumbled the permits and Massachusetts forced them to take it down and now its your standard outdoor mouse
Years ago when it was Riverside Park they had a great walk through haunted house. Unfortunately one year one of the guests lit a lighter inside and caught a drape on fire and it burned down causing several deaths. It was horrible.

Oh so that is what happened to Riverside!!! We went there as s kid when I lived in CT in the 80s.
Thunderbolt is really the only remaining aspect from Riverside...unless you count Wicked Cyclone....which was originally Cyclone until 2015 whennit got the RMC conversion to Wicked Cyclone

For Six Flags Great Adventure, my computer class went there in 10th grade (06/07), but, I didn't go. I didn't know my classmates that well and I was afraid they would drag me onto a ride that I don't like.
Aww, those stairs are so cute.
The figures on the carousel were carved by Marcus Illions (not pronounced or spelled like the state of Illinois). Illions carved the figures but the W.F. Mangels company made the machine. They both had work shops at Coney Island and collaborated on many carousels. Mangels designed and patented the overhead crank system that makes the horses gallop; he also designed and manufactured the whip ride.
I really enjoyed your pretend coaster ride. I imagined people walking by giving you "the eye". Maybe add in one of your maniacal cackles next time too. So good.

If you are still in MA, there are 2 carousels in Boston proper. I think one of them is fully hand carved. You know if you find a carousel with a camel, you gotta ride it.

Riddler Revenge is much better than it was when it was Mind Eraser. Got new trains when they changed the name and theming. It doesnt bash your head in anymore cuz it has vest restraints now. Still a janky ridr but I dont mind riding it now. Id never ride it if it was still in its Mind Eraser form
I spent a little longer with Jacob and my fellow CB fans today. Jacob, I'm always glad you're here but today and tomorrow are now/are going to be harsh. I have a baby parakeet who was bleeding from a wound on her back yesterday. Upon investigation, I found a big yellow tumor showing through her skin on her back. I'm not looking forward to what I'm going to have to ask the vet to do tomorrow. So spending extra time with you was a good form of escapism for a little while. I'm sitting here laughing and sniffling by turns. But I'm glad your vlogs are here. You have no idea how much they help people sometimes.

Jacob, have you tried dramamine to prevent motion sickness? They have normal and non-drowsy. It might help you ride those spinning rides without getting nauseous

Demonia or Tasmanian She-Devil is her name. She's Taz's wife and appears when he does, but she's the dominant and is seen hitting him a few times with her rolling pin. She appeared in "Devil May Hare" then "Bedeviled Rabbit". She also appears briefly in "In the Looney Tunes Back in Action" disguised as Mr Smith.
They probably overhaul the annual passes every time they figure out that this Jacob character is costing them money.
If you’re still in the area, you have to check out Nicky’s pizza right down the street from the park. It’s amazing. Great atmosphere awesome service.

Female Taz aka She - Devil's name is Demonia. Wood and steel coasters are called hybrids.
That Wild Mousey type coaster, SFOT and SFFT (both Texas SF parks) have this. Both named Pandemonium. Previously called Tony Hawk's Big Spin.
Thanks for taking us to another Six Flags Park. I have only been to a few and with the high prices they charge with many times facing long lines I choose not to go to their parks. I guess they want you to buy the annual pass like you did to make it more affordable. But that only makes sense if you really like your local Six Flags or you plan on visiting several different parks in one year. The parking fee you mentioned is way too high. That’s more than many parks charge just to get into the park. Free or low cost parking should be the rule especially where you have to pay a charge to enter a park. These price choices are just hurting their business. Just look at how Disney is hurting since they decided to continue too raise prices.
Going to an amusement park to sit in a dark room and play video games is really sad.

That's where "my" roller coaster, The Comet," is located now. I went back and checked, yes, Jacob's been there.
I have bene on both Houdini Houses. The Great Adventure version has significantly more special effects. Have you been to Frontier City in Oklahoma?
Wicked Cyclone is a RMC hybrid rebuild of the Cyclone all-wood coaster, the later of which you either loved or hated. Main parking lot used to be where the Batman coaster is now. Stock car racetrack used to be where the Superman coaster is now. I enjoyed the park much better in the 1960s and 1970s. I PMed you some photos of the dark rides, etc., that Riverside Park had.
Hard to believe they kept the Flashback coaster but did away with Goliath Twin Towers. Of the two, Goliath was way more fun.
From NY but has a pass for this one a few years ago. Like a lot of it but getting food took ffoooooorever at multiple locations.Parking situation also crazy. Lord 40 bucks for parking how else are you going to get there. that's criminal. I will add I very much enjoyed them being open during winter months. Went several during Christmas season and lights and rides were fun.
You need to attend the Big E six state fair which is near there in west Springfield It's late in the summer when school goes back

The one over at new Jersey they have a ride similar to the Harley Quinn ride it's called wonder woman I've been on it once won't try it again.
How safe is Six Flags America? I heard that it is close to Washington DC and the crime is very bad near the park.

So, those ARE called hybrid coasters. They have been made mainstream by a company called RMC (Rocky Mountain Construction) that has been going around the world and converting old, beat-up wooden coasters into these monsters. They also build custom, ground-up hybrids as well. But a lot of them are conversions. They are great rides.
So they should rmc thunderbolt too
I am sure there are many RMC coaster fans and it is nice they are preserving some older coasters. However they take away the feel that only a true wooden coaster can give. Although the old wooden coasters can’t do the various twists and turns and inversions that the RMC’S can do they generally provide more air time for your ride. If the park does not want to keep the old true wooden coasters they then should just replace them with modern all steel coasters. I have ridden several hybrid wooden coasters with either steel structures with wooden tracks or wooden structures with modified steel rails. Those type of coasters usually still deliver a ride quality similar to old pure wood coasters.
