I've never had the problem of an overly long driveshaft, but at least now I know what to do!

Get a “Porta-Ban” saw. You really need on for your tool chest. It’s like a wonder drug and will cut thru anything. Mine is a Porter Cable brand that I’ve had for 16 years or so. Don’t need it much but when I do there is no substitute! Great content as I know folks with out any experience just hook up their implements and damage the tractor and implement bc they do not know that shaft length MUST be verified before use. Hope you and the family have a great thanksgiving. 🍻🥂 cheers!

REALLY like my "porta-band" saw; don't know how l ever lived without TWO! Just 5 TIMES FASTER than a "Sawz-All" & gots 11 of them. They can "split" 1/8" washers in HALF;= 2 3/64ths washers---just a real time saver.

No safety glasses and no guard on the angle grinder. So glad you didn't get hurt.

I was wearing my chainsaw helmet and face shield when grinding.

Those German Walterscheid PTO star shafts are crazy nice, and expensive. Also, everybody here is an expert. It's like if they can't criticize somehow, they don't feel expert enough.

💥 The shortest distance would be level. So if you go over a hill the flail could become even shorter than what you measured. Good think you cut off extra.
    *Keep on tractoring!*

Heating that shaft isn't a problem as that is the overlapping area. Looks good.

The only attachment that I had to cut down the shaft for was my tiller. However, it needed about 2” off to be safe just like yours. This is one of the reasons that I’m hesitant to borrow or rent 3 point attachments.

I was starting to wonder if that inner shaft was solid!! With as much effort it took to cut!! Interesting that it was that much harder than the outer shaft. So far I have not actually had to cut a PTO shaft down as the couple attachments that have them all came with shafts that were not long enough or barely long enough (tiller, even without the QH 😂) Have a good one!!

I’ve seen several people who were able to cut both parts of that shaft with a hacksaw.
My hacksaw and reciprocating saw, would not even make a scratch on it.

Google cut off wheel accidents my friend. Definitely not the guy to harp on safety stuff, but I know first hand what happens when one grenades into you. Especially right at your man hood.. Thinking about my last comment on you hinting towards a bigger tractor. I'd say keep the smaller tractor for the little jobs and invest the money into more skid steer equipment to do the jobs the bigger tractor would do. That's kind of my game plan when I'm ready to buy a skid steer. But then again, I'll be more into the forestry mulching/property clearing side of skid steer work anyway.

Yeah, I was using a steel cut off wheel with a diamond cutting edge so it’s not likely to break like traditional cut off wheels. I was also wearing my chainsaw helmet with face shield. , only when grinding

@@RockhillfarmYT gotcha. Definitely wasn't trying to be "that guy" about safety. But I kind of can't help it after 40 stitches from one exploding into my stomach. I'll try just about anything else besides a cut off wheel these day.

Worst case scenario. You could of used it Dremel tool for the burs.

So 6 inch overlap is OK for any machinery?

  • @frankashworth5961

Good morning, Brock. Sorry, I'm running a but behind on your videos.
I wanted to make sure of one detail. The camera's angle made it difficult to tell, and you hadn't mentioned it. Was your attachment centered to the tractor? To get the optimum measurement you were looking for, align the mower input shaft wuth pto output shaft. This will alleviate pto gearbox damage should you choose to mow without offset.
    Be safe out there.

Old trick, use a piece of masking tape and full circle the shaft and it will be square!

  • @charleslynch908
    @charleslynch908 Год назад +1

I think you over complicated this a bit. Take the time in the measurement and a band saw is the way to go. Might take ten minutes with the bulk of the time taking measurements.

There must be a tool for cutting pto shafts! Just kidding.
