Hi Barbara, You are very welcome. This was first on my list when I first went to Europe. Pretty fascinating place. I'm glad your curiosity has been satisfied. :)
Virtually, I can cross this one off my Bucket list. Visiting the Paris Catacombs. This video does it for me. Brilliant handling of the camera. Very well done!
I wouldn’t work in the catacombs. It’s a dead end job. No future in it, and a grave situation to find yourself in, though it is very down to earth employment but a lot of skullduggery goes into getting a job there. The employers can only afford a skeleton crew to look after the place. It’s hell to work there so I’m told and it remains a bone of contention to keep the place open.

New subscriber here. I was reading online about the man who dives and maps the sunken parts of the catacombs. I decided to check here for videos of the ossuary and here you are. I appreciate seeing it as I don’t think I would be able to go under the ground myself, being more than a tad bit claustrophobic. The walking tour, even with the bones, isn’t as scary as the people who enter illegally from the streets. There is a video of people crawling down narrow ladders and through small holes. I nearly had a panic attack just watching that. Nope, nope, nope.
A recommendation when there are posters with information, Please if you can take a clear shot and nothing else for those of us who like to read. A clear shot is enough because we can pause the video. Thank you so much.
The Catacombs are a grim reminder of the Latin phrase "Memento mori." ("Remember that you will die.") Each one of those skulls belonged to a human being, one whose life was every bit as real as ours. All their dreams, hopes, and experiences, gone. And whether we end up buried, cremated, or otherwise disposed of this is ultimately the fate of every one of us.
