  • Today's tutorial is in the studio, combining juicy oil painting with chunky palette knife painting! I will discuss various aspects on picture making: Complementary colour combinations, composition in landscape painting and techniques for leading the viewers eyes through the composition. All this is done while in the process of creating a major landscape painting!
    Enjoy the process and hopefully pickup a few ideas for your own art creations; whilst in social isolation, during these extraordinary and unprecedented times that 2020 is dishing up!

    A week ago I talked to my friends about your trips and the idea of navigating the nature
    And art, and today I see a beautiful experience in the studio .... Of course I prefer to work in nature, I consider it richer and deeper, despite the beauty of what has been accomplished today ...

    • @richardmusgrave-evans9886
      @richardmusgrave-evans9886  4 года назад +4

      As you know, I also love to be out there in nature, immersed and surrounded by its influences! It's much easier for me to create and relay my feelings and Impressions of the place. But every now and then, if I'm fresh from a Plein Air trip, I can get it to work from the studio. Just don't like to make a habit of it, I feel like I may slip into formulas instead of raw observation and application! Happy painting 4u jo :-)

      thank u
      Yes, I know the feeling of being part of nature and participating in transmitting this sense .... I also liked your talk about the composition from nature to painting which is an important thing

    Outdoors, bonfires, boats, you take us to see the unique natural environment, the unique hat, this is already attractive enough, and then add your paintings, and your sports. This is the symbol of each episode of your video. It ’s awesome. I want to do the same, but now I can only stay at home. Painting the courtyard of the house.

    Lovely work as always Richard! I do feel it’s slightly more static than your plein air work. I think a lot has to do with the physical aspect to your process outdoors where you need to be literally moving all the time to view your subject. I think it brings a lightness and movement to the work. Just an observation, not a criticism 😊. I enjoy your videos so much I have to pace myself, otherwise I’d watch them all in one sitting! Thank you so much for sharing. Jill, UK.

      Thanks Lalit! They take a few days to couple of weeks depending on the temperature. This is only skin dry in the really thickly painted areas, so I don't varnish often. If I do, I would wait at least six months to fully dry first.

    Had to watch it twice as the first time I only had eyes for the hat. 😬
    Interesting idea to use video as inspiration, many painters literally just copy a photo & although technically fautless, the results are often as lifeless & 2 dimensional as the photo.
    Your technique, talent & interpretation though, would prevent any of your work from being dull & static.👍
