Sadly I think UK Plumbers the only, which never will use Press Fit as basic, all about price, o ring etc etc excuse, like they don't want nothing new... I started the trade with my dad 17 years ago, I visited for pump change one of my old customers before xmas to change a pump, pressure tested as we always do before any change on system in Hungary and still 0 leak... That system press fitted 16 years ago when i started the trade... Best fittings ever... anyone who worried about the rubber ring inside please Geberit website and will find details about this special rubber rings... Keep Up Allan good job
I'm plumbing away in Munich and we only use press fittings. Soldering is never really done and if it is its only for repairs. We don't really bend pipes anymore either. Press fittings are just a lot faster. For drinking water, the preferred metal for the pipe is "edelstahl". It is a stainless steel alloy made from nickel, chrome and other smaller amounts of other metals. The industry bosses and insurance companies have all approved the use of it years ago. Copper is not preferred as it is very expensive and we only use it if the customer specifically asks for it.
Brilliant! I love this video - it covers so much for those new to press fittings. I agree that press fittings is a simpler, safer and cleaner way of pipe connecting. I am wondering would you ever need to solder again?? Also presumably for those starting out then hiring the tool may be the way forward.
Hi Allen I can see that you have the Hilti press gun and the novo press gun. The Hili jaws TH16, will they fit the novo press and work. Many Thanks Steve
I love the look of MLCP crimping, and this seems to remove all of the problems with push fit fittings on plastic. I would press fit copper on wet pipes, but soldering is cheaper and only a bit slower. Looks better than compression fittings that’s for sure.
Out of interest what would it take to make a pressfit pipe leak? ie water hammer on un clipped pipe , slightly moving pipes once installed say kitchen fitter ect / im just curious what it would take
will fluxes inhibiters act in systems attack the o rings if using in a mix and match jointing job or better to use all the same joints possibly plastic where you cant see just use copper press where its on show
Hi Alan I think press fit it's good on service pipe work installation where you can see and able to repair if its failed still o ring in there but on the buried pipe specially under concrete I think it's better to have solder fitting.

No disrespect intended Allen, love your videos, always instructive,Best wishes to you and your's, Stuart.w.yorks.
Hi Allen, I am just about to take the leap into press fit, mlcp, how do you personally size the mlcp to copper, do you use 16mm as 15mm and 25mm for 22mm if I'm making sense, hope alls well, regards tony
Have you ever used the geberit Carbon Steel press fittings with the red band? I bought a job lot of fittings a few years back but haven't used them yet. But was thinking if using them on a sealed heating system
Are the Jaws interchangeable between different makes of guns? Say if I had a rothenberger gun could I borrow different jaws from someone that had a rems one? And calibration, is that a requirement as is flue gas analysers? Another great educational video Alan 👍
@Allen Hart It would be a great video to show how you can move from an existing push fit (e.g. John Guest) to MLCP Press Fit and back again. Guessing you'd need to go to copper first, or is there a great coupler fitting you use? Thanks and love your Videos - keep up the great work
I’m from automotive background where o rings crack and go brittle with age, especially when going hot and cold, do you think you’ll be fixing a lot of leaks in 10 years time?
It depends on the quality of the O ring. O rings are used in space craft. Automotive equipment is not known for longevity. Look at the pathetic rubber hoses they use. The cars are designed to last about 5 years trouble free. After that expect trouble. Unless it is a Honda or Toyota. I came across Hep20 pipe fittings off the diesel engine of a canal boat to extract heat for the heating system. They took a lot of abuse in vibration, etc. Still going after 20 years.
Hopefully someone can chime in, would I be able to press fit a 15mm central heating copper pipe to those steel decorative pipe tails for going into a radiator valve. Also, are the press fittings good for use beneath floor boards?
Just cannot fall in love with the way it looks if someone can solder nice and cleanly and shines pipe up after it looks better to me but that's just me I'm 39 but taught by old school plumbers now I'm stuck in my ways
I was absolutely the same, Totally stuck in my ways. Then a new guy worked with me and we had a pipe to change with water in, This was amazing, Never looked back. Thank you for the comments though. 👍

sorry old school here . wouldn't have that in my house , l once had to try and use a "leadlock" it got kicked over the garden wall into Dore Cemetery in Sheffield , out came the shavehook , rasp, margerine from my snap sandwiches , petrol blowlamp and bits of river brand solder , all wiped up nice with a hamlet cigar cardboard carton , happy simple days
