@@loucostabile Lou. I love all of Ken's cars. I don't know if he noticed it or not but the rear deck lid did not come down flush where the roofline and rear fenders meet. You can see a big gap. It's probably just an adjustment but you did one for Mr Walters back in Nov 2020 and that one was flush. I only mention this because this is a such a beautiful car and everyone of Ken's cars are concourse quality.

My parents had a stripped 1960 Ford Fairlane Custom (Bottle caps, six cylinder, 3 on the tree, originally no heater even, per Dad), before I was born. Mom and Dad told me it was their first new car. Dad bought it while he was an Airman stationed at Keisler AFB in the Biloxi, Mississippi area. I saw slides of it on our family projector. It was a red 4 door. He traded in a 54 Desoto for it. He said a GI buddy who worked in the service department installed a heater free of charge, and I think was able to throw in a set of full wheel covers too. By the time I was born, Dad was stationed at Chanute AFB Rantoul, Illinois, I guess I was a late 1963 model, and Dad had traded in the 60 for a new blue green 64 Ford Country Sedan, with a 352. That was the first car I remember.

I was the third owner of a salmon pink and white nineteen fifty nine ford skyliner. I had seen it come to the town I lived in at the time, as it was nineteen sixty four.... and it looked so beautiful. I had my heart on owning it some day. I would talk to the dad of the owner of this car and what I would do with it if I owned it. So it sat and sat with the occasional starting of the engine... fluid dripping from the transmission and it was parked on a hill so it was dangerously low on fluid. They were heavy drinkers and so burnt the transmission up trying to force it to move. The top still worked when it got there but needed some servicing. I would watch from my house as they mistreated the car. At the time it came and not that old at all, it had some rust starting to show through the body in very unusual spots so I knew it needed some help. I finally wore those people down and they did some horse trading and money exchanged hands with I knew it was not going back to them... it was mine but then I had to take it home. In those years and I must say I did more harm than good to cars as I wanted to drive so bad and the folks were never going to help me. I didn't know how to wax or paint but one thing god did give me was the natural mechanicing talents I had early on. I used my 51 chevy 3/4 ton flatbed pickup to drag it up the steep hill and then coast it down the hill and test the brakes which were very poor at best. It was a steep hill down to my place where at the early years, I could tear down a engine and put it back together. I remember a few distinct things about those years as to colors. All cars were usually one color so a two color car was not only odd but a treat to see. Of all the cars on the road and at the time cars did not last all that long. Most had engine problems and all the automatics had problems with slipping real bad so the older standard transmission cars were still on the road. I got this 59 with a bad transmission and was going to put the standard transmission in it which I did just before I sold it in really bad shape. One day the fin was white in color with some rust stains coming through it and the next it seemed days was a hole where the "Tin Worms" chewed through it. At first trying my best to stop the rust and make some headway on keeping them nice. I could tell you the whole story for sure but doubtful any would want to read it as it turns to book in a hurry

I have been watching a number of Ken's cars on my car story. I can only describe Ken's cars I have see to date not only the "best" of cars but the "best of the best" of cars. They are such great examples of very unique and high optioned cars. Because of that it would be very interesting to know why the original owner picked the options they did on those cars when they were new and how long the original owner "planned" to keep the car and ultimately how long they ended up keeping each car. Lou and Ken, thanks for another great car story.

My dad had a 1957 f code like this; ours was all black. We were members of the Skyliner club for years We sold it a couple of years ago. We were always told that the EXACT number of F code retractables was not exactly known as a fire at Ford destroyed the records. We had heard the number as being 14. If that is a genuine set of retractable luggage from back in the fifties and not a reproduction they are very rare and valuable. The rumor was that someone bought a retractable just to get the luggage that came with it. Beautiful car!

I know an old guy who recently retired as a Ford Dealership mechanic. When I told him Ford had Supercharged engines in 1957 he didn’t believe me until I showed him early photos. In over 40:years he had NEVER seen one. He said that the dealer mechanics hated working on retractibles. He said they were both primitive and complicated. Everything had to work just perfectly or they would jam up and cause trouble. I can’t imagine having to do a total wiring harness. This is an especially ULTRA rare one. Don’t like Continental Kits but I know some do. I would be afraid to drive this irreplaceable car!

A classmate of mine's father owned a Ford dealership. He asked a group of us to watch for his father, who was going to pick him up after school, and would be in a convertible. A white hard top pulled up and other remarking about it being a new '57, we paid it little mind. Then suddenly the trunk opened and the top retracted. We were all agog at this and swarmed around the car. :)

My Aunt Jane had a '57 Ford Fairlane in Starmist Blue and the starter sound of this car takes me back to rides with her. She had to put it in Neutral before it would start. A while back, Hemmings Muscle featured a 4-door with supercharger that according to legend was ordered by a moonshiner to look inconspicuous yet be able to outrun the "revenuers!" Supposed to be the only 4-door 1957 Ford so equipped. May have been a Custom 300, I don't recall right now. This one is amazing, Lou--never saw a blown Skyliner. Not even a film or photo of one that I can remember. A rare jewel indeed. A friend of my dad's retrofitted a Y-block with the supercharger setup way back when and my dad may have helped him work on it at the time. I think he bought the kit from Ford over the counter. He wasn't sure on the year and I'm sure he would have remembered if it was supercharged. He had issues with the top. My greatest admiration of the Skyliner is just the fact that relays, switches and motors operate the retractable top. Too many rarities on this one to list. Ken seems especially proud of this car. I hope Lou, that you didn't think Ken might have have a non-functioning clock in one of his cars. Better garage than a certain has- been comedian who now works for RUclips.

Lou that 57 Fairlane is absolutely amazing! I have always thought the 57 Fairlane Retractable Hardtop was an especially beautiful car! In the little town I grew up in there was an old house with a 59 Fairlane Retractable Hardtop sitting off to the side of the garage for years it was blue & white the body was really decent but it hadn't ran in some years. The year I turned 16 that was 1975, I knocked on the door of the house to try to buy the old Fairlane! An older lady answered the door & said it was her deceased brothers car and she would never sell it. It was still sitting there when I moved to a town about an hour away when I moved out on my own. A few years later when I was back for a visit the car was gone. So I was never sure of what happened to it. It was kind of sad to see it always sitting outside in the weather. Anyhow Lou thanks for all the great videos that you post!

Thanks, Ken & Lou... a memory trip & great History Car. Interestingly, all my Ford Car Brakes were “ marginal @ times”. Actually, my first car (* 54 2DR,V8, 57 **Engine/ Carter 4 BBL/ Dual EXH, with 57 WHEELS/THOSE 57 Hub CAps in Rear; 15 inch in Front), would lose all brakes if Wet/ puddles. Anyways, had to fit special Metallics , to GALAXIE 500/XL/4 speed/352@ shop in Lafayette IND, ETC.ANYWAYS, we heard rumours about these F codes , etc in 1960’s, AND THE INTERCEPTOR , I. Ford engineers had slaved away trying to make the Y-block heads flow even moderately well. Finally they gave up and plumbed on a supercharger, and finally the anchor put up some respectable numbers.
Lucky for Ford, they built some stylish cars in the mid-late 50’s ... like this one.

Kens cars are always impeccably restored. That's a beautiful example even putting the rarity aside. For both the '57 Ford Fairlane 500 and the '57 Chevy Bel Air convertibles, black exterior/red interior still looks the best. Ford actually outsold Chevy in '57, but not by a huge margin. I like these small conventional skirts on these Fords rather than the big cruisers. Although those are a nice custom look, it's a bit excessive.
