இந்த பதிவில் திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டம் மேற்கு தொடர்ச்சி மலை தொடரில் அமைந்துள்ள பொதிகை மலையில் காணி இன பழங்குடி மக்கள் வாழும் கிராமத்தை பற்றி பார்க்கலாம்.காணி குடியிருப்பு என்று பெயர் கொண்ட இந்த கிராமத்தில் சும்மார் 300கும் மேற்பட்ட பழங்குடி குடும்பங்கள் வாழ்கின்றனர்.பொதிகை மலையின் மற்றோரு பெயர் அகஸ்தியர் மலை என்பதாகும்.பிச்சாண்டி என்னும் சித்த மருத்துவர் பல அறிய நோய்களுக்கு பழங்குடி முறைப்படி மருத்துவம் பார்க்கிறார்.பல தலைமுறை தலைமுறைகளாக மருத்துவம் பார்க்கும் இந்த குடும்பம்,பல நூற்றாண்டுகளுக்கு முன் காணி இன மக்கள் வெளியூலகு தொடர்பில்லாமல் வாழ்ந்த கால கட்டத்தில் அவர்களின் நோய் எதிர்ப்பு சக்தியாக பயன்படுத்திய பச்சிலை மூலிகை மருந்தை மூல பொருட்களாக பயன்படுத்தி இன்றைய நவீன காலகட்ட நோய் கிருமிகளுக்கு பல ஆராய்ச்சி செய்து மருந்துகள் கண்டுபிடித்து மக்களுக்கு வழங்குகின்றனர்.கலக்காடு முண்டந்துரை புலிகள் காப்பாக வணபகுதிக்குள் இந்த கிராமம் இருப்பதினால் வெளியாட்கள் செல்ல அனுமதி இல்லை.சனி மற்றும் ஞாயிறு நாட்களில் மட்டும் இந்த மருத்துவரை சந்திக்க பல கட்டுப்படுகள் மட்டும் சோதனைக்கு உட்பட்டு அனுமதிக்க படுகின்றனர்.
In this post, we will see about the village of Kani tribal people living in Pothigai Hill, located in the Western Ghats range of Tirunelveli district.More than 300 tribal families live in this village, known as Kani kudiyiruppu.Another name of Pothigai Hill is Agasthiyar Hill.In this video you can see in detail about a tribal doctor living in Kani residential area.Siddha Doctor pichandi practices tribal medicine for many unknown diseases.This family has been practicing medicine for many generations, centuries ago when the people of the land lived without contact with the outside world, they used as raw materials the bacilli herbal medicine as raw materials, and they are doing many researches and finding medicines for the diseases of today's modern era and providing them to the people.Outsiders are not allowed as this village is inside Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve.One is allowed to visit this doctor only on Saturdays and Sundays subject to several restrictions,tests and proper permissions.
The Kani tribals are a traditionally nomadic community, who now lead a primarily settled life in the forests of the Agasthyamalai hills of the Western Ghats (a mountain range along south-western India), in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.
Nestled in the tropical forests of the Agasthyamalai hills of the Western Ghats, a mountain range in Kerala state, India, live the indigenous Kani tribe, traditionally a nomadic people with a population of almost 25,000.
Kanikkaran, also known as Kani, is a Dravidian language spoken by about 19,000 Kanikkar tribals in southern India. They dwell in forests and hills of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts of Kerala, and Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts of Tamil Nadu. It is called malambhāsha, or "hill-language."
Kanis are basically agriculturists, who make the southern Western Ghats of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Trivandrum districts of south India their home.
The Kani tribals usually prepare medicines in a combination of several plant parts. They believe that combi- nation of several plant parts cures diseases rapidly.
Their use of the forest plant arogyapacha (trichopus zeylanicus) as a key ingredient in a herbal remedy called Jeevani was noted by visiting scientists in the 1980s. The formula was eventually developed as a commercial enterprise by Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, with the tribe's Kerala Kani Welfare Trust receiving license fees and royalties. Members have been encouraged to cultivate the plant.
Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) located in the South Western Ghats montane rain forests in Tirunelveli district and Kanyakumari district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is the second-largest protected area in Tamil Nadu. It is part of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve.
There are several small estates and five Kani Tribal habitations, consisting of about 102 families. About 145 hamlets situated within 5 km of the 110 km eastern boundary of the reserve are inhabited by 100,000 people. There are about 50,000 cattle grazing out of these fringe villages, with a small number of cattle owned by the tea estate workers and residents of the electricity board colonies.

Thanks for the very interesting post. I have great faith in these medicines. I knew a sithar, he used to live near Perambalur. My uncle went with him into the mountains near Kutrallam to collect herbs, roots, etc in the forests. He cured me (permanent cure) of my hypertension. This was more than 35 years ago.
