    I HATE that he thought we forgot him... when we were just missing him. I genuinely MISSED him. I had no idea where he went. He was hands down my favourite actor as a teen.

    One of the greatest comeback in history. This man left Hollywood for a few years then suddenly make a comeback, deliver one of the best performance of last year and won an Oscar?       He moved to Connecticut in 2004, cheated on his wife with a guy in 2007, got divorced in 2008 and has never been away from acting in 32 years. He never lived in Hollywood, just West Hollywood where he practiced what he learned in boarding school 👬.

    Next to Leo and Joaquin Phoenix, this is the most deserved Oscar of all time. You could visually see him holding back every emotion in his speech but it was the emotion of 30 years in the making. No one has ever worked this hard for an Oscar

      If what you said is even true (remember, news articles can lie) then it was completely unnecessary and it's actually pretty funny that he did all that and STILL couldn't beat a guy who was previously seen as unemployable by Hollywood. He didn't have to become obese to play the role, they just put him in a fat suit.
      These guys always remind me of Kirk Lazarus in Tropic Thunder.

      I did end up falling into my bedroom floor in shock on the verge of tears…that’s not normal but Brendan Fraser was so phenomenal in The Whale and I was so happy that he actually won the Oscar.

    The turns the world takes, Brendan was rejected and sidelined by the industry, but they elevated him to the biggest role of his career. He arrived on time. I loved and cried. Well deserved.

      Elevated him? No one else wanted the role. Aronofsky hadn't been able to cast it for 10 years. Who in their right mind would want to play a 600lb Queer who abandoned his family for a guy. Only Brendan. He did it in 2007 and paid through the nose to keep it quiet. This was his 7th time "playing gay". No acting required.

    I'll never forget his dorky but courageous and brave personality shown in the Mummy franchise. Brendan was like the Indiana Jones of us 90s babies and after all the trauma and adversities he had to go through during the 2000s this is the reward of all those years of suffering and dejection

    This was easily the tightest category this year, all of the nominees could have won for their incredible performances. But I'm glad the award went to Fraser; as he not only gives a brutal and moving performance but also marks a triumphant return to someone who was shut out for many years. What a wonderful comeback.

    Brendan Fraser is one true inspiration, ever since I saw him in “The Mummy”
    For me, i was expecting that Austin Butler to win for his role in “Elvis”, but after watching “The Whale”, I knew that Brendan created the most wonderful and complex performance of a lifetime. A deserving victory.

    Brendan's Oscar was well deserved. His performance reminded me quite a bit of Ernest Borginine's fantastic Oscar-winning performance in Marty (1955). In fact, Marty and The Whale would make a great double feature. Very moving and emotional character studies.

    What a perfect comeback! What an emotional and genuine speech! I felt so excited for his win! Brendan won the Critics Choice Award, the SAG Award and then the Academy Award! His performance in The Whale was so moving and really blew my mind! I’m so glad that his dream really came true!❤

    I didn't see The Whale prior to Brendan Fraser winning his Oscar. But after watching it, I'm so glad he won. Way to go, Brendan. And what a night for Oscar winning performances. All four were first time nominees and first time winners.

    My heart was pounding during the final moments when they said, “and the Oscar goes to......Brendan Fraser”......I totally lost it! I was whooping and hollering. I hadn’t watched the Oscars in years but I did this year only because of Brendan. So happy for him....as for the rest of the nominees....they were all deserving as well. And for Brendan to acknowledge them was pure class! Bravo!

    Brendan gave and achieved it all: the best performance of his career, arguably the best male performance of the year and one of the best redemptions ever.
    Paul Mescal looked so excited to win and kind of sad when he lost, I hope one day I get that win

      Paul knew he wasn't going to win, come on. He was just excited to be recognised. It's incredible that he got nominated, really. I predicted him when he was still at 100/1 odds but the film is so small that he knew the nomination was the reward this time. He'll be back.

    Watching Brendan get his Oscar is my happy place! Whenever life gets me down I come here and see this the greatest of all comebacks in history! I have loved him from the very start of his career and supported him when he disappeared from us praying he would come back and we would see this most humble and gentle of men once again, Brendan you are simply perfect in every sense of the word !

I just watched the movie and I cried and cried and when I believed there is no more tears there were more. It's one of the best movies in the world.

      Austin should have won it! If it was solely based on who played their role better, Austin would’ve won it by a long shot. I love Brendan, because of how great of a person he is, but I can’t help but think that was the reason he won.

      I've watched both a few times I think Austin was perfection as Elvis. He embodied him so well. Brendon was excellent and had to walk in a huge fat suit. I'm happy Brendon won but sad for Austin. But I know Austin will get an Oscar he's young.

    When the Oscar’s were happening, I was a massive fan of the film Elvis, and was beyond upset that Austin butler didn’t win best actor.
    Today I watched the whale for the first time and I believe he truly deserves this Oscar, it was a beautiful film and an amazing comeback for Brendan Fraser

    I was at work watching this, before the Oscars were about to start I created a voting game for all my coworkers to choose who will win the Oscar. I was having lunch watching the TV, I went onto my push to talk radio and announced that we are up to the Oscar for Best Actor and I when I said his name I could hear all my friends clapping and cheering throughout the store. He has truly made a triumphant comeback.

    I LOVED George of the jungle as a kid… I was 3 when it came out, and now, my 4 year old daughter loves it, too. We watch it multiple times a week.
    Brendan didn’t deserve what happened, but I’m glad he’s back & is shown just how much he’s appreciated!

    The Mummy is without a doubt my favorite childhood movie. If it's on somewhere, I always watch it to the end. That movie got me through cancer, I used to put it on every night before chemo and it was like a warm blanket wrapping around me so I could sleep. It wasn't until years later I found out that re watching the same movie is an anxiety triggered response to comfort yourself, because you know whats going to happen, the movie never changes. Thanks Brendan, you're an amazing human being.

    I have re-watched the whale about eight times now. And I still cry every single time.
    With this role, Brendan Fraser has cemented himself as a truly compassionate, amazing human being. I only hope his future career develops in the path to provide him happiness. I think he will be in the ranks of great on real people such as Tom Hanks.
