Actually, the Dutch rolling / trilling 'r' is not the standard anymore. The Dutch in the western part of the Netherlands (and students) pronounce the 'r' as something that's hardly recognisable as an 'r' anymore. Listen to 'kinderen voor Kinderen 6 - Ochtendhumeur' here on you tube. Some Dutch find this regional 'slang' snooty. In Limburg (regional dialect) they also don't use a rolling 'r' but one that sounds German. (The Germans use a trilling 'r' but most of the time the 'r' somehow fades as for example 'mutter' which is comparable with the English 'mother'. The 'r' is actually not pronounced: Mothae'.) Example of the language in Limburg is on 'jippe vertelt - Limburgs dialect'.
I am Latino and have never been able to roll my Rs in Spanish. I have been trying for decades now. You have finally helped me do so. People telling me where to put my tongue was useless because that was never the part I had problems with. What I really needed was to put a sound before the R to help 'train' myself how to utilize the airflow (the problem with Spanish is that the non-RR rolled R's are at the beginning of words). The 'fr' sound in particular had me direct the air in the correct place. After I got the 'fr' rolling, I was able to move on words that started with ra- and ro-. After I got more comfortable with that, re-/ri-/ru- were easier to hit as well. Thank you so much for this video. I almost cried tears of joy knowing I can finally speak my family's language.

I've had questions about the tongue that seem important and only you have answered them because you acknowledge their importance and anticipate that your students do, too. You're an excellent teacher. And thorough. Thanks.
Tips from my learning experience : STEP 1: First place your tongue completely touching the 'alveolar ridge' and back of the teeth then try to pronounce the sound "zzz..." With vibration like immitating the buzzing sound of bee. (This step is to make your tongue edge relaxed and feel the vibration which helps to flapping the tongue) STEP 2: After that immediately place only your tip of your tongue with flat tongue then try to flap the tip of the tongue only and make the sound "trrrr" like immitating roaring bike engine which helps to flap your edge of the tongue. STEP 3: If you getting used to flapping the edge of your tongue , then proceed to make ' رَ' sound which is slightly similar when you pronounce the word 'Draw". From there try to perfect the ' رَ'sound. Hope it helps! In shaa Allah :)
Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah. Allah has shown me the way how to pronounce ر properly. Thank you sooo... much sheikh for your teaching. May Allah increase your knowledge and grant you jannathul firdous. Ameen ya Rabbal Alameen.

I am literally moved to know that many people can't pronounce this sound which seems like an obvious one to me😳 I had to learn the english r actually...
This is actually a Great start!!! This IS how you should learn it. Gradually. Once you have the "trrr" hold onto that and start practicing words from your mother tongue that have this combination. Example, say "TRRRee" , "TRRRAIN" and so on, till you feel you got hold of this combination. and step by step, you'll be able to separate them from one another. Never forget that you tongue is a muscle. When you go to the gym, are you going for that 100 lbs dumbbell first thing? Of course not. you should train that muscle step by step. So be patient, and keep doing your best, and I'll try to guide you along the way as much as I can in shaa Allah.

I was born in Switzerland and my dad is algerian. He never really got to teach me proper arabic, but i am now. Im doing just fine with all the other letters pronunciation. But i struggle with this stupid r
As salaamualaikum Ok. I really am glad you have thought of so many techniques Nevertheless. It is still like training for the Tour de France. Lol Jazak Allah khair. I won’t give up bithnillah
I have googled and googled nothing is working for me. It always sounds like a lam Sound. My tongue doesn’t vibrate at all I have tried loads of videos and exercises I just don’t understand why my tongue won’t do it
Alhamdulillah after a lot of practice I can flap my tongue for several minutes but can you give me tips to now use my voice at the same time to produce r?
Hi bro, I love the video and it has really motivated me. Quick question, how do you pronounce the r without the trill? Like when you are car without the troll, where is your tongue position?
No success yet with the trilled R, but this was a good explanation with some different things to try that the other videos I have watched don't have. Thanks!
One thing that helps is to part from the sound "t", because it places the tong at the right place. Repeat t-rrr, t-rrr, t-rrr many times. The t has no vowel sound, but you can put a schwa if makes it easier.
Assalamu Alaikum. Do you think it is the same R as in Russian? Like somewhat resembling some sort of a motor machine sound or something lol. But the thing is, that one would do A LOT of movement. It’s so weird how many different R sounds there can be lol
Wa alikom asslam, Yes, I think they are very similar. The Russian R however has too much trilling compared to the Arabic one, but it is definitely a good place to start. Asslamo alikom
I've always had a specifically hard time with the alveolar trill, which is odd because I can already trill anywhere in my mouth but at the alveolar. I am able to rear trill, middle tongue trill and tongue tip trill on the roof of my mouth but as i move the tip of my tongue forward towards the alveolar the sound breaks and becomes an ssssssh sound, any suggestions for what I and probably many others might be doing wrong?
There are indeed many types of trills, and even more variations of /r/ than I can count. It is like I always say, a matter of training the tongue muscle. This is where I would start if I were you; also try out the tongue training or the force-a-trill technique.. and most importantly start by applying it on familiar words from your mother tongue. If you feel comfortable making a short vid on how your articulators move when trying it out, then maybe I can tailor a piece of advice for you. And remember this process can take some time till you get the hang of it.
I am a native punjabi. Almost all of the indian languages have this trill R and is an obvious sound. We have to work around with english /r/😂😂 Infact, most of thr people use trill R while spreaking english...
I have problems with it, especially when using ر with shadda (doubled ر). Ar rahman - the ر here sounds more like english r or an w. I wish i could flapping it but it just doesnt work....what should i do? Somebody who get it through trainin
I able to trill but am not able pronounce the Tap r . And when I pronounce the tapped r it sounds like a mixed R and D sounds. Rather than R it sounds more like D.
It would easier for me to tailor some advice if you recorded your voiced, or better showed your mouth movement. You can send that to me through facebook or whichever way you want. Good luck.
السلام عليكم May Allah reward you and increase you in your knowledge. I hope you accept this critique. The Arabic “ر” does not flap with air. Every Tajweed rule tells you what to do, expect one rule called “تكرير” which specifically tells you not to “roll” or “flap” the ر. Also in your ads you have women who are half naked working out. It would be best if you changed these ads. جزاك الله خيرا.
If you see Dr Aymen Rushdi Swayd, he explains this the best. He’s on RUclips and has the book that’s in both English and Arabic titled “تجود المصور” (Tajweed with pictures)
Wa alikom asslam brother/ sister, Please let me know which ad that is so that I can block it. Thanks for your feedback. You cannot pronounce ر without تكرير .. simply because flapping is an inherent, indispensable property of the Arabic ر. Saying you should pronounce ر without flapping is like saying you should pronounce the م without letting your lips touch!! Exaggerating in تكرير however is wrong. If you want to learn more on how to pronounce ر while reciting the Holy Quran, please check out this video: ruclips.net/video/-Uc5vkrTYnU/видео.html Asslamo alikom
@@Arabic101 Thank you for responding brother. The ad was a workout one, not sure exactly I wasn’t trying to look lol. Here is the video of Dr Aymen, he is the top Tajweed scholar alive now. ruclips.net/video/ycAkCZjTXc4/видео.html

But he is saying exactly what I am saying: في اللام والراء بتكرير جعل وللتفشي الشين ضـاداً استطـل Which translates into: laam and raa are MADE with تكرير which is flapping. Further on the slide he was showing: التكرير هو ارتعاد اللسان بالراء ارتعادا خفيفا ، و ليحذر القارئ من المبالغة في التكرير Which translates: takreer is the flapping of the tongue when pronouncing the raa, and the reciter should be careful not to exaggerate in flapping the tongue. Which is what I said, Alhamdulilah ... Asslamo alikom
Hello your video was brilliant about pronouncing arabic raa but i still can't trill my r whilst my tongue is touching the gums , for some reason I can only trill from my throat and i was wondering if you could help
Pronouncing R from the throat will be like the French, Dutch or German /r/ .. that's a completely different sound, and it is one that is not used in Arabic at all. Your tip of the tongue should not actually be pressing, but rather loosely touching the alveolar ridge, so that air can push the tongue and pass through, creating the flapping and this the sound.
Well... I can't even manage the 'forced' trill...... soooo, at 40 i'm about ready to give up for life. Nice video and useful.... but not for me, I fear I'm a lost cause
Whenever i try to vibrate my r my tongue comes out of my mouth to vibrate..and the vibrations are more like drrr and trrrr..can you please tell what i am doing wrong which makes my tongue come in front when i blow air to vibrate it..when i shoot a video of myself it was like my tongue is vibrating in the middle of my lips rather than vibrating in the back of my mouth..i try hard to keep it back but whenever i blow air my tongue stucks out
Take perro. Where is my tongue for the p? If I say just p, the tip is downward. So, then, after the p, does the tongue tip immediately flip to the the alveolar ridge? For rr, is my tongue tip already at the ridge for the initial very beginning vowel sound of rr? Don't you have to have some "plosive" of air to initiate the tongue vibration? How do I generate the air column needed to vibrate the tongue for rr? There's no plosive. Is it a vowel grunt? Upside down e? How many times does the tongue tip vibrate against the ridge for each rr sound? I remember my old Spanish teacher in HS back in late 50's rolling an rr sound for about 15 seconds, just for a demonstration. My 84 year old brother can make his tongue sound like a tommy gun, dit, dit, dit, dit very fast. So can my ex-wife. I can make dit, dit, dit, but not fast and my tongue has to do it. Not an air column, if you know what I mean. I've been trying on and off for a year or more. Seems to be getting better, but I'm still not sure I'm on the right track.

JazakAllah khairan fro your reply.
But which lesson are you referring to?

This one’s not easy😳
Masha Allah. Really in this channel only many tricks and practices to get a correct pronunciation. Alhamdulillah. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us for the sake of Allah.
Jazakallah khair.
ممتاز 😍
Thank you! This was very helpful!
This video was very interesting and well explained, thank you. The simple R is not a problem anymore but I still have issues with double Rs like in Ar-rajulu (The man).
I address this issue in this lesson: ruclips.net/video/ObYKEtceQbU/видео.html
@@Arabic101 Thank you so much!
I was born in Switzerland and my dad is algerian. He never really got to teach me proper arabic, but i am now. Im doing just fine with all the other letters pronunciation. But i struggle with this stupid r
As salaamualaikum
Ok. I really am glad you have thought of so many techniques
Nevertheless. It is still like training for the Tour de France.
Lol
Jazak Allah khair. I won’t give up bithnillah
waalaikumsalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
The fa trick is great 👍😃 I will practice
When I am pronouncing and I place my finger on my throat the fruit is shaking show is it ok well while pronouncing rrr?
No pronouncing the r has nothing to do with your throat or your vocal cords.
This is so hard for me😭 may Allah make this easy for me🤲
Say pot of tea or butter cap fast
Ameen
Absolutely hard for Japanese mother tougue. We only have such rigid sound with minimum mouth movements. I can't even flap my lips...
I speak Spanish and English so I am used to this sound
I have googled and googled nothing is working for me. It always sounds like a lam
Sound.
My tongue doesn’t vibrate at all I have tried loads of videos and exercises I just don’t understand why my tongue won’t do it
you will get it. this happens to me before
The same for me, now my phone is covered in spit yet again, my mouth is dry and I'm so frustrated
Same problem
Same
A rolled R also exists in the Southland, New Zealand dialect, probably by way of Scotland.
Alhamdulillah after a lot of practice I can flap my tongue for several minutes but can you give me tips to now use my voice at the same time to produce r?
This brother is a genius. Allah bless you.
Sheikh could you please explain how to pronounce letter و
I found none of your vedios explaining و
جزاكم الله خيرا كثيرا
Hi bro, I love the video and it has really motivated me. Quick question, how do you pronounce the r without the trill?
Like when you are car without the troll, where is your tongue position?
JazakALLAHU khair
No success yet with the trilled R, but this was a good explanation with some different things to try that the other videos I have watched don't have. Thanks!
One thing that helps is to part from the sound "t", because it places the tong at the right place. Repeat t-rrr, t-rrr, t-rrr many times. The t has no vowel sound, but you can put a schwa if makes it easier.
The technique of the forced flap seems good, then the n before rhe r.
Assalamu Alaikum. Do you think it is the same R as in Russian? Like somewhat resembling some sort of a motor machine sound or something lol. But the thing is, that one would do A LOT of movement. It’s so weird how many different R sounds there can be lol
Wa alikom asslam,
Yes, I think they are very similar.
We have to work around with english /r/😂😂 Infact, most of thr people use trill R while spreaking english...
i dont know but i learned it in like 1hour (i knew the basics)
I have a question, what if your back teeth and side teeth are touching the tounge? Im concerned incase this is why i cant do it
Can someone help me please I need some excerises and I always accidentally make a Ghani sound when I do it
So helpful
I have problems with it, especially when using ر with shadda (doubled ر). Ar rahman - the ر here sounds more like english r or an w. I wish i could flapping it but it just doesnt work....what should i do? Somebody who get it through trainin
🤩 amazing
I able to trill but am not able pronounce the Tap r . And when I pronounce the tapped r it sounds like a mixed R and D sounds. Rather than R it sounds more like D.
It would easier for me to tailor some advice if you recorded your voiced, or better showed your mouth movement. You can send that to me through facebook or whichever way you want.
Good luck.
Thank U so Much!!!!
السلام عليكم
May Allah reward you and increase you in your knowledge.
Wa alikom asslam brother/ sister,
Please let me know which ad that is so that I can block it.
If you want to learn more on how to pronounce ر while reciting the Holy Quran, please check out this video: ruclips.net/video/-Uc5vkrTYnU/видео.html

@@ahlal-quran7127 Dr. Ayman is definitely the master of masters, no question about it. But he is saying exactly what I am saying: في اللام والراء بتكرير جعل وللتفشي الشين ضـاداً استطـل
Which translates into: laam and raa are MADE with تكرير which is flapping.
Further on the slide he was showing:
التكرير
هو ارتعاد اللسان بالراء ارتعادا خفيفا ، و ليحذر القارئ من المبالغة في التكرير
Which translates: takreer is the flapping of the tongue when pronouncing the raa, and the reciter should be careful not to exaggerate in flapping the tongue.
Which is what I said, Alhamdulilah ...

Whenever i try to vibrate my r my tongue comes out of my mouth to vibrate..and the vibrations are more like drrr and trrrr..can you please tell what i am doing wrong which makes my tongue come in front when i blow air to vibrate it..when i shoot a video of myself it was like my tongue is vibrating in the middle of my lips rather than vibrating in the back of my mouth..i try hard to keep it back but whenever i blow air my tongue stucks out
Jazakallah khair
hi! May I know if this Arabic R is same as the Italian R?
Yes, that is the same as Spanish and Italian R
