Loved the video!!! This is the classic Fed content that I enjoy, late at night, when the kids are asleep. Content for grown-ups, no "lifestyle" BS, just sincere content at it's best based on years of experience. Love your videos Fed, keep it rockin'!
must admit, why can't Bremont just make a watch without it being associated to an old aeroplane or something from the second world war and having army engraved on the case back... just make a damn watch Bremont.
Sir I have been following your for a quite sometime and this is one of the best video ever. The truth is good and crunchy bread. I love it. Keep it up, the truth is what we need!
The Patek Seal is pretty stupid I will admit that. However, I have a 5130P, and I have scrutinized it under my microscope at 60x mag, and I will say that the execution and finish on that movement is absolutely flawless. Also out of all of my watches, when adjusting the time on the 5130, it has by far (even compared to my Vacheron) the smoothest buttery feel when moving the hands, and indication of perfectly aligned and polished gears. But yes, sealing your own movement is kinda weird...
As British watch enthusiast I was initially excited when Bremont started out but I quickly became very jaded by their extremely tenuous military back story. They are nothing more than a fashion brand masquerading as horology and are way over priced as a result. Comedy resale values reflect this. Christopher Ward is more honest
Both the blue and green Bremont S500 watches have the most beautiful bezel lume I've ever seen. Also, I went into their boutique store in Manhattan and got WAY, WAAAY better service as a potential buyer than the cheaper brands across the street. That said, I've always liked Bremont for what I see, not for what they want me to see in them. That's why I'll always love the design of their watches but I ain't gonna buy their watches unless they're $2,000.
Great video! "Not exactly the most open industry." Loving the droll understatement. I don't know of any other business where you can't find out whether or not a certain model is still being made by just contacting the manufacturer and asking them. Just one example of the unique nature of the watch industry.
Interesting comments, Fed. I agree with you on all except for Tag Heuer. What they did seems perfectly honest and forthright to me. Also, probably a good move on their part to save development money yet get a good movement. I'm a big fan of Seiko, and for the money, probably one of the best watches around...Jim

great examples Fed ! you continue to be motivation for me and my small channel. Love these videos because your knowledge is vast but you also keep it real and dont shy away from calling the heads of Bremont Douche bags in the first 2 minutes of the video.
Also not a fan of Bremont. I loved the aesthetics in photos but felt let down by the watches when I saw them first-hand. Not a bad product but not exceptional to me.
Bremont is a modern day version of what so many now defunct “brands” were in the 90’s and 2000’s. “Here’s our bracelet, slap a pre-made ETA into our case, there ya go, that’ll be $5,000 please...”
Frederico. Like you I have worked for the most prestigious companies in my industry sector, and they were amongst the fifty largest companies in the world. They were the leaders in the complex "Bleeding Edge" (Read --- very expensive) but the B.S. claims made by people at Board level would not only seem trivial in the watch industry, but they were believed by their customers, because these B.S. claims were always based on trying to destroy their competitors. IBM was a repeat offender across the whole product range from the IBM Personal Computer in the early 1980s, back to their efforts to try and send Supercomputer inventor Control Data Corporation bankrupt by telling major Government users, such as Defence, to delay placing an order with CDC, because IBM had a better one ready for release. The story of how CDC Engineer's used Relational Database technology to build a legal defence, that resulted in IBM giving CDC its massive Professional Services division and its global computer bureau operations, as an Out of Court settlement, is never referenced in today's Business Sector media articles, but it was a James Bond 007 level of Industrial espionage. I have not thought about that story for the last 40 years, but your wonderful exposure of little known watch industry Scandals revived a lot of memories, because in 1972 I was one of three industry leading Salesmen, recruited by Supercomputer inventor CDC, to introduce it's IBM based division into Australia. While all of that past history has absolutely nothing to do with watches, it's the reason why I found today's presentation both enjoyable and intriguing. Phil.
I think with the growing popularity of watch collecting, the industry and community is getting dumbed down for the novices/masses. Example 1 - asking if a movement is 'in-house' and what defines in house has been abused where collectors are valuing in-house movements for the sake of it, and ignoring the actual qualities of the movement whether in-house or not. There is less interest in design, finishing, reliability, because frankly, the novice collector doesn't know and needs to judge off of some dummy in-house vs sourced movements. Example 2 - Needing a seal to tell the novice collector what's good and what's not good. This is so dumb that we have a bunch of marketing seals now; just buy a loupe and look at the movement!... Most companies made it even easier now to assess movement finishing by offering open case backs (A rarity for many watches 20 years ago). Our eyes should be the judge of the movement and whether it meets our personal standards, we shouldn't need to be told what's pretty and what's not.
There is a story behind Tag inhouse movement. Watch one of the videos from Ablogtowatch, Down Time. He talker about it, dont remember which Down Time # is
Great video, Federico. Is always good to hear your comments. I am learning a lot about watch market, it's ups and, nowadays, its downs, mainly... . Greetings from Brazil!
Finally somebody in the know says something unbiasedly correct about Tag's calibre 1887. It is developed by Seiko but built/made in-house by Tag Heuer. I own a Carrera Heuer 01 (43mm, non-skeleton dial) that uses a slightly modified 1887. It is very accurate and I really love it.
Interesting you should mention a Jaeger Odysseus just in at Delray Watch... A. Lange recently announced their Odysseus - a first for Lange in stainless steel!
Fed, I absolutely love the your inside takes on the watch industry ... from an INSIDER! Priceless ... I'm going to have to buy a watch from you just to support your cause ... LOL
I think part of the reason was also that PP opened their new factory in Le Locle (not in the canton of Geneva). So they couldn't comply with Geneva Seal anymore for all of their watch production.
The PP thing is common in the Swiss industry in that at the slightest sign of disagreement they will leave and do their own. Here Patek disagree with the Geneva seal and it's qualification. Then Omega and Rolex with COSC, Omega creating their own Master Chronometer. It happened with watch companies and Baselworld.
My understanding is patek left the Geneva seal because it prevented them from moving forward with new technologies in their movements like silicon hairsprings and other such "non-traditional" movement technologies.
The PP seal reminds me a little bit of Omega and Rolex going from COSC to METAS and Superlative Chronometer, respectively. Side note to Keyboard Warriors: I said, "a little bit".
