Great vid man! I liked the vox flat out but the orange at lower volumes. Lucky you have both! haha Thanks for the shout out and for showcasing the tshirt man, that's awesome! Guitar Search Saturday continues this weekend all being well. :-)
intheblues hey thanks! ya the orange has more fizz at high gain but more bottom end. I liked the Orange in the room more, but liked the Vox in the recording. haha. looking forward to guitar search saturday coming back! 👍🎸😁
What the heck!? I was looking to switch from my micro dark to a vox, and wanted a comparison and YOU of all people had one! How the hell have I not known your channel for almost 3 damn years??
I was playing a Les Paul in a GC and had a mv50 ac against a micro terror, not the dark. Hands down the mv50 won, when in clean sounds, it wasn't even close. I'd love to see this with a Les Paul tried again.
This two are my favorite amp brands, and these mini amps with a solid state power section and tube preamp are doing magic in my book! I love the size and the sounds you can get out of them. I own both orange (the micro terror and the micro dark) and I can’t get enough of them...
I have both of these and the Orange has a fuller tone low to high and more of that spongy tube feel. I switched out the high gain pre- amp 12AX7 tube it comes with for a Mesa Boogie STR12AX7 and it got way more clean head room while still breaking up nicely once you get there. Completely changed the amp. The Vox is fun and does a good approximation of an AC but is still lacking that special touch dynamic thing that makes a real AC special.
The Jensen P12Q is a good choice for that kind of demo! To me the Vox sounds better. The Micro Dark's tone stack is too bright or too muddy, the mids have just been forgotten somewhere.
Probably Orange for heavier modern tones, but when it comes to classic rock and chimey cleans, Vox takes the spotlight. It’s what you’d expect really I guess.
I own both, and I think they both sound great. The micro dark is a little dirtier/vintage and the vox has more of a modern high gain tone(I own the high gain vox, I think there are 3 different models). My favorite thing to do though is play them together through a splitter. The two blended together rock pretty hard.
I used to have an old cort guitar that had a speaker and amp built into it, and I used to play it on the toilet. Great video, kinda like the Orange better.
I'd stick to the orange just because it has a nice warm sound, which I'm surprised to hear coming from such a small amp. Nice Radiohead playing and shirt, dude, Intheblues might be my favorite guitar channel on youtube. Great video as always!
hey thanks! ya the Orange came through with a really great bottom end (at least with the mic). That's always the mystery, what I hear in room, vs what gets recorded. But in this case I was loving the Orange, and it did sound better. Now run it through a different speaker and guitar, different outcome maybe. :)
Your videos totally rock Lando! I like the Micro Dark better than the M50. I've owned a few Orange amps... Love them all but the Dual Terror was one of my favorites. ...Ironically right now I'm playing a Vox AC10C1 at home and it's a pretty cool little amp...
Sound is such a personal thing. Vox all the way for me for this comparison (even though I have a Marshall). I have never come across an Orange amp that I like and don't think I ever will for some reason. Just not for me I guess. One thing I do like about this particular Orange is the effects loop capability though.
Landon a great comparison, To my ear the orange sounded more like an amp should, the Vox seemed a little tinny and thin in comparison. I am a big Vox fan myself though this time I had to give it to the orange, Thanks.
Seems that all these amps sound good. My ears leaned me towards the Orange Micro Dark. Smoother, and is getting the benefits of being tube driven. The "Shape" (aka tone) for these amps is super sensitive. There is a huge difference with high gain setting and then tweaking the Shape between 11:00 and 1:00.
In this demo VOX seems to take a reverb better, but Orange has an effect loop, and you'd probably better put effects there. I like VOX AC, so I got MV50.
Do you think the vox could stand up to any serious tube amps? I have a Blackstar HT5R and am wondering if the vox would be an upgrade, since... New strat... Cleans are important.
I own two of the tiny Oranges for my stereo-sound (both a bit "pimped" with another preamp tube and my signal improved by a Boss EQ-7-Boost Pedal/the great (but sadly constantly underrated) T-Rex "Mudhoney II" for 2-channel overdrive or distortion sounds, turning it into an all- in- all 3-channnel-amp, and: wah, delay, harmonizer, reverb and chorus/flanger ) *and - not a joke - just KILLED the other guitar-tone out of the Marshall JCM-800 of my fellow band guitarist during a club gig!* ( We cover "Dream Theater" and other Prog-Metal and some eternal hard'n heavy "classics" by Led Zep, Fates Warning, etc.) 'The other guitarist of my group couldn' t believe, that he was beaten by an amp-dwarf!! 😄 - The Vox is really okay, but i still prefer the Oranges, each thru a 2x12" Celestion cab. - Warm, tubey thunders!! - The Vox is more transparent, but first there is the advantage of the effect loop of the Orange and - you always have to consider different aim-groups: - If you are in hard rock/metal: more the Orange, classical rock, blues: perhaps more the Vox. *Again, in my understanding, both amps are great* , .. - .no, i' m talking bullshit!! - .... *They are FANTASTIC amps for their size!!* - So, its just a matter of taste and musical style, which to prefer. Thats MY opinion! - Maybe, a bit to tiny for football-arenas, but on the one side: When do you ever play at Wembley?? - For all other uses, they've far enough power, and, however, today we have great modern P.A. and monitoring!! For home, rehearsal or smaller events, they are all you need (... and, of course, a good instrument, cabinet ( why have so many guitarists still not realised, *how important a good speaker-cabinet is?* ), good cables (!!) and some stuff, as effect devices, that's clear!! ) Thanks for the shootout! And .... it shows your professionality, that you used the Jensen box!! Rock on!! 🤘 Best wishes, L6E P.S.: Forgot it: I also used the Orange in the *studio* - also no problem! Very useful!
In my TV room, the Orange was better for me. Great tube-like distortion. I own the Micro Terror. On the toilet, still the Orange. Added plus, they both had a nice natural reverb bouncing off the shower tiles.
Ouch, I had thought the MV50s sounded really good, but in the context of this comparison I notice a very unpleasant boxy midrange. Orange sounds much better to my ears.
Why did you choose the AC instead of the high gain VOX? I am thinking about running a dark terror/high gain stereo setup. Maybe into some 2x10 cabs. Sounds more interesting than just right and left clones of each other, make it sound like I cloned myself and he's a tone snob too. Get me a A/B/Y switch and dual myself... ⚔️ 😛🅰️🔛🅱️😜 🆎😋
Lando27Music I C, I am playing through a little Blackstar fly with the extension cab now, and thinking about an upgrade and I have always wanted a stereo setup. I know that the stereo combo amps aren't good enough because there's no separation, or at least not enough for my ears. With these little micro heads I can do it without breaking my bank account. Lol
@@landonbailey not sure what you're getting at. Also it wasn't meant as an insult, just to clarify. Teles are nice guitars, but they're not really geared after the style Orange went for with these amps and I find that seemed to hurt it some and gave the more all around designed vox a tonal advantage. Most micro dark users are going to be geared after metal, which will not equal allot of teles. The vox will carry varied choices, as some of their players push into the heavier music as well as more classic rock and hard Rock.... I'd say a soloist, would be a very good fit reefer
The vox is very mid in that cab. I think it would sound better in A closed back cab. Should have compared the vox to a standard Terror the dark terror is... Well dark!
hey thanks for the feedback. ya I just compared what I had on hand. I ended up switching out that speaker for a Texas Heat. I also didn't keep the MV50.

Putting the “shape” knob on the Orange all the way to the right does not “max out” the sound, it just scoops the mids, all the way to the left scoops the high and low frequencies. In the middle is flat. I usually find 1-1.30pm is about right, slight mid scoop but nothing to bad.

Play some Black Sabbath on that little Vox.

Hi, what cab do you run with Micro Dark?
I want it only for home use
I totally watched this on the toilet.
+Mark Durante I just read this comment from the can. 🤤👍🎸🚽
Same here, was about to let the nugget drop as you mentionned the toilet in the intro :)
Mark Durante totally on the can... oh ya the amps,, !
Me too, haha
Here I am.

There are like 5 now. Clean, AC, Boutique, rock, high gain
How do you split them??
I used to have an old cort guitar that had a speaker and amp built into it, and I used to play it on the toilet. Great video, kinda like the Orange better.
Hey thanks!
Loved the video. I've been looking at both amps and it helped alot!
nice! glad it helped!
Unbelievable how loud they are, I couldn’t guess MV50 could give that volume
ya they are loud for sure!
I'd stick to the orange just because it has a nice warm sound, which I'm surprised to hear coming from such a small amp. Nice Radiohead playing and shirt, dude, Intheblues might be my favorite guitar channel on youtube. Great video as always!

appreciate it thanks! I once tried an AC10 recently and it's awesome. Great tone from it's little size
Both sound good I think ones you get the orange the next day you will want the vox. I like the vox

+Meagain Okay ya fx loop on tje MV series is lacking. Maybe not enough room on the circuit board
I sit in a regular chair when I watch your videos, I have some respect for you brother.
William Olsen haha 🚽🛋
Haha
Landon a great comparison, To my ear the orange sounded more like an amp should, the Vox seemed a little tinny and thin in comparison. I am a big Vox fan myself though this time I had to give it to the orange, Thanks.
👍🎸
Love the Vox! Also worth noting that the Vox BC108 is a much nicer cabinet than the Orange PPC108.
Ryan McQuen cool! are they both the 8" cabs?
Yes! They are both similar prices also.
From the comments, it seems I'm the only viewer not on the toilet!
Me too.

so many years ago!
I like the orange better. I also have the orange micro dark.
👍🎸
The Vox sounded a bit hollow when compared to the fuller and darker sound of the Orange. Thanks, I almost bought the Vox.
I have the Vox and a Micro Terror. Prefer the Vox a bit more.
i use a micro terror and love it, gigs and all works great...
Love the Radiohead Riff! AirBag!! Made me want the Vox!
Vintage voiced single coils do wonders for the tone of the micro dark
Orange killed it. Nice demo.
thanks! ya
Digging the radiohead riff!!
+chidorirasenganz cool thanks! I don't remember what i had played. 🎸😁
7:03 What's the name song? please
Airbag by Radiohead
Love your comparison; but I did keep losing track of which amp you were using at a given time.
felt the orange sounded better clean - but the crunch won by vox - easily ,
the orange sounded a little "fizzy " on high gain
that's pretty much the way I hear them too :)
Cleans are important.
tough to say. probably depends on the speaker. I didn't love mine but I was running a Jensen. maybe it wasnt the right mix

really nice comparison, i like the Orange more than the vox, also, the 60FPS is just eyecandy
hey thanks!
they both sound great but the orange is cheaper so I've made my decision
🎸👍
LOL! I am 100% on the toilet. 😂 You totally caught me. Haha!
keep it real! :)
Yes, I'm totally watching this on the crapper.
😂👍
@@landonbailey it's like you read my mind. 😁 I just bought a Mini Dark and I'm looking a pretaste of my new toy, BTW. 😉

haha ya better reverb in bathrooms!
Holy shit Landon, you were rocking so hard your t-shirt changed colour.
Ha!
I have the vox it has greater headroom and takes pedals well.
nice! what do you plug it into?
Totally watching from the can man....gud call
im watching this in the toilet, amazing video
get out of the toilet! 😝
Am I crazy or does the Orange clean up a lot better?
well I'm crazy and I can't speak for anyone else 😁
Hearing protection is recommended above 84 db.
Vox micro ac for sure maxed. Orange cleaner cleans.
Ouch, I had thought the MV50s sounded really good, but in the context of this comparison I notice a very unpleasant boxy midrange. Orange sounds much better to my ears.
thanks for the opinion and feedback!
That's a Vox for ya.
Vox MV50 is better!
Is better the Orange, the sound is so much great
+Andres Vela hey cool! Thanks for watching
GREAT INTRO!
Thanks!
I played an orange once but had issues keeping it clean, sucks that the terror has no FX loop
Christian Castellanos thats too bad. the orange has the fx loop, the vox doesn't in this case
lando27music I meant the micro terror, the "cleaner" counterpart of the orange, which has no effect loop
+Christian Castellanos ah right the white one
hello, could you tell me how many db they reach with totally clean sound?. Thanks.
I can't as I no longer have them! Also would depend on the speaker used 👍
Man those amps can crank serious DB’s

这俩我都买了 还买了108箱体 实话说都挺喜欢的
很酷!玩得开心!
I picked the Vox it is louder and cleaner than the Orange.
cool thanks for the feedback! 👍🎸
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but yes the orange sounded better.
I watch most youtube vids while ironing or on my hometrainer ...
+Heidi Duverger 😁🎸
I get a clean sound with the Orange ?
+Gabriel Borges ya it does pretty good clean sounds too
Between Vox and Dark, wich u choose to Get a clean sound? What better?
The preamp tube is starved, so it really is not the same as a real tube sound. You probably won't notice right away.
The Orange crushed the Vox
i like orange crush 👍😊
Shoulda cut the video, so that the comparisons are back to back.
+Doug Cassidy I've to do that in more recent videos. thanks for checking it out
Canadian eh? Great demo from Oz.
I am 🇨🇦👍 hey thanks!
I’m on the toilet!!! No joke !!!
Orange sounded more muddy I’m listing through headphones
Is anyone really buying one of these for volume? For a small practice amp both are great!
Do you think the 1x8" is right choice for home use only?
The vox is very mid in that cab. I think it would sound better in
A closed back cab. Should have compared the vox to a standard
Terror the dark terror is... Well dark!
hey thanks for the feedback. ya I just compared what I had on hand. I ended up switching out that speaker for a Texas Heat. I also didn't keep the MV50.
Micro dark. But I'm biased...
nothing wrong with being biased. but I'm biased saying that. 🤤😲😁🎸👍
It wasn't the room, it was the Orange. It killed it.
How’s he know I was taking a shit?!
the smell
Landon Bailey oh it was a mass exodus!
Yup, watching this video mid log.
Ah crap, I like both.
Simon T well they are relatively cheaply priced compared to a mini tube head. you'll have to buy both! 🤣🎸👍
lando27music I can’t argue with that logic! 🤘🏻😂
I really am watching from my toilet!

I do it from the toilet daily, my favorite chair.

northern ontario eh! 🇨🇦😁
Orange hands down! I don't care who's louder... the sound is it, vox sounds like a tin can compared to orange
Cool! Thanks for the feedback
From the Toilet!!!! You nailed it!!! 😆 only me time I get!!! 🤣
Micro Dark.
But funny ' output- o - meter' on the Vov. WtF?

I actually do be on the toilet

Vox sounded nasally, prefer the Orange for sure.

lando27music is that vox loud enough to keep up with drums?
Gareth Price might depend what kind of cabinet/speaker it's running to. I would say in most cases yes.
