That crunch riff is SO catchy, really really love these demo tracks and the fact you focus on tones and simple riffs rather than showing off shredding. So much more relatable.
Agreed. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it through the different amps. I even pulled out one of my Solar guitars and jammed along!!
Totally agree. His riffs are wicked.
This guy has the best comparisons on youtube, hands down.
He and @Johansegeborn
First time seeing homie here and I am going to have to agree with you.
Idk, I don't think a good comparison should have double tracked guitars. Great in a studio setting but hard to tell the tonal definition
For me it's the other way around. Double tracked and panned hard left right gives me a much clearer image of the tonal differences
@@SonicDriveStudio True but if I was trying to buy one of these amps and wanted to hear what they sound like, I'd need another video to see how it sounds on its own, with only one guitar
It is absolutely amazing how close the micro dark sounds compared to the big boys here. incredible for 189.00.
I love my Micro Dark! It's magic in a tiny box. Love your Orange Amp collection!
Wow… This cool riffs. Thanks you for this video. The more I hear it the more I fall in love with Orange amps.
You crushed this demo. Solid riffs! I was grooving the whole time.
Thanks!
Great work! It was a really great format to highlight all the subtle differences
1. TH30 because it has the most definition to me.
2. Dark Terror, because even though it is a little less defined to me, it still suits every genre.
3. Rockerverb 50, because it has the classic sound Orange sound, and is still versatile.
Honorable mention: Micro Dark, because I have one and it sounds pretty clear. But it doesn’t have the fullness “umf” that it’s bigger all tube brothers have.
I got my TH30 10 years ago. Amazing amp
I'm glad I stumbled onto your channel, what an amazing song to put together to highlight the various tones you have while playing different styles.
Great comparison and killer songwriting!!! Thank you! The small amps sound so good in the mix. It seems there is no need to spend a lot of money. Properly the difference in sound gets clearer when hearing the amps directly in one room.
Thanks a lot for the video! Great stuff! That was actually very surprising how Micro Terror holds up against tube monsters!
Great video, I listened to a couple of amps already and will be coming back to this video in the following days. Thanks for the great work!
Awesome! Cheers!
The range of tone in that little OR15 is impressive.
That’s what I’m saying I had to do a double take when he swapped to high gain 😂
A needed comparison. Thank you!
Wow. What a perfect compare video I really didn't think would be here. All of them.!
Really nice (and useful) comparison, thanks for sharing :D
I thought I didn’t like the “Orange sound” until this video. Loved a lot of these. Just ordered a Micro Dark and pretty excited about it especially after watching this. I quite liked it. But now I’m interested in the bigger ones!
An eq and tubescreamer style boost work so good in front of the micro dark.
And a decent 4x12 cab
YEAH, my favourite amp brand ever, demonstrated by one of the most professional gear channels out there.
Jon, you sir, are a treasure 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thanks very much!
Some really gnarly riffs!!! Pretty sick stuff
You were a big influence with your video and I went for the OR15 . It suit me perfectly and it is an amazing head combine with a booster Spark booster from TC Electronic and a Maxon OD808
Amps can take up so much space, it can't be wrong that a big part of the reason I'm heavily favoring Orange for a first amp is their look! Fits right in with my interior design lol
This is an impressive amount of work!
This is a super nicely put together and thorough video! I definitely hope to see more from you
Thanks!
Excellent review as always. Just picked up the Rocker 15 based off your review and something just spoke to me with this one. My first orange 🍊 and for the price not sure you can beat this little beast. Sounds super full through my recto 2x12 you can really crack it and it doesn’t peal the paint off the walls
This is a really good video!
Well done 👍
Great job on comparisons !
I love the OR-15 the classic look in the lunchbox amp with classic Orange tone.
That's a great amp!
I was surprised at the Micro Dark. I own the Rocker Terror 15 and love it, but I might have to get that Micro Dark as well. Thanks for doing this, and I love your songwriting.
I own the rocker 15 aswell and that microdark is tempting ^^
Thx very much for your great vid & hard work👍. Now & thx to you I now what I need: The OR15!
Love from 🇨🇭
Right on my man...lotta work..I really appreciate you and your hard work on..this was perfect all the way around.. boatload of work
Thank you!
Dude. This is an insane amount of work! Thank you. I'm still on course to buy a Rockerverb, but this demo definitely makes me consider to grab an OR15 or Jim Root if I see a cheap one online.
If you don’t need a loud gigging amp and use reverb on a pedal go for the OR15, it’s has the rockerverb preamp with EL84 power amp
@@ignacioibanez6138 I tested the OR15 and it's really good, but i do need a 2nd channel for a new project. So, it's gonna have to be the rockerverb
Great comparison video. My favorite was the AD30. I used to own a Crush 35RT and regrettably sold it. After an abusive love affair with Fender Amps I came back to Orange and got a Crush. 20RT at a deal I couldn't pass up. As a bedroom player it's plenty loud even when my son jams along on his bass or I'm taking a lesson over Zoom. I hope to one-day get the Rocker 15 combo or TremLord 30.
This was very interesting. I went through a few times and compared them back to back. My top 3 in order: 1. Rocker 15, 2. Rockerverb 50, 3. Dark Terror. The Rocker and Rockerverb are remarkably close. The Rocker 15 mids cut in a way that just did it for me. I never would have thought I would pick the lunchbox over the fullsize.
I own a Rocker terror here, been so happy with it.
But..... will it do the massive gain sound of the 'verb though
Top 3 for me:
1. Dual Terror
2. Rocker 15
3. Micro Dark
I hopefully you can update sometimes in the future with the Super Crush and the Crush Pro. Curious about those solid state amps versus the other valve brothers. Thank you for your hard efforts with this video Jon! Cheers!
I do noit have a Dual Terror.
Having said that, I DO own my top 3:
OR15
Dark Terror
Tiny Terror
yes, Rocker 15 is not on the list.
amazing video! great work. this will help a lot of people in the future.
Great demo as usual!
May biased since I own an MKIII but that's definitely the best of the bunch. Dual Terror seems a close second for me followed by the OR15. Great demo as always!
Your tastes run similar to mine, those are the ones that stuck out to me the most. Still dreaming of owning a Rockerverb one day!
Great comparison video. Never really used Orange but know a lot more now. Thanks
Oh, my LTD Phoenix White will be here tomorrow. That sounded great for the video. Thanks again for helping me on deciding
Cheers Dave
Great video! Wow! Nice job! I own a OR120, OR15 and a Micro Dark. I’ve had a Dual Dark 100 and TH100. Ironically my favorites are the Dual Dark and TH100. Lol. You made the Micro Dark sound incredible. My favorite out of that bunch. OR15 is second.
thanx broski good work ! love your riffs as usual ;)
The Rockerverb 50! Man that amp has such a perfectly balanced sound with a great snarl! John, that was a killer comparison! Great job! 🤟🏻😎
Thanks Ron!
I never had an actual, real amp other than my old little marshall bedroomcombo, I got my Neural DSP one day and used it ever since... But I always wanted a real amp and for some reason, I saw myself really drawn towards Orange amps, idk what it is, but their look, their sound, I always enjoyed it.
But there are so many of them which all seem pretty similar, so thanks for this video! I'm still amazed by your attention to detail in those reviews, really man, keep up the great work!!
Watching this all again... cooking Thanksgiving dinner in Adirondack mountains in upstate NY.... happy holidays to all..
Enjoy your holiday!
Great vid. I have the OR15. Absolutely love it. Throw a Wampler Tumnus in the front and you have bluesy breakup to die for. I get crushing doom tones out of it too.
Man that jim root terror sounds fantastic to me. Very similar characteristics to the big boy rockerverb but at 15w. Great review. Also thank you for the timestamps.
What a great review ! I really enjoyed the track you wrote and jammed along to it. So now I have to buy an Orange amp and the LTD guitar sounds pretty good actually 😂🤣🎸🤘
I love my Orange Rocker 15 Terror with 2x PPC112 in stack. Great Vintage British rock tones and metal territory, but if you pushed it with tube screamer type pedal, you easily can play some heaviest sounds :) Great comparision! Love your channel! You do Great work!
Will the Rocker 15 chug ?
Wow! Very nice comparison! It would have been interesting also hearing one of their solid state amp
Best RUclips channel, congrats Jon !
The best video about Orange amps ever! I love them all. But the Rockerverb... damn!!!
After hearing all of them, I’m now sure I made the right choice with the TH30 for the style of music I play and the way I play (open chords). They’re all amazing though!
Thank you for actually playing good music on a comparison video
Awesome video wow! Great rifs too, thanks a lot
Great comparison video, as usual... One thing that I noticed on the Micro Dark intro - I feel people on the fence on the Micro Terror vs. Micro Dark - the Dark has a proper effects loop! I know I'm fond of my Micro Dark.
Best gear channel on YT! Fact (based solely on the crushing riffs)..
Proud owner of a Dark Terror, an OR15 and a Micro Dark... (also a Crush combo)... Love Orange!
I have one cube from Orange… I liked it a lot! But really liked the dual terror! Great video!
Dude the amps are amazing and all but I just dig your songs! 😌✊🏽🤘🏽
Thanks for the comparison, you did a monumental work! Still impossible to decide which one to take though, so many sounds amazing! The Rockerverb sounds amazing at high gain, and I find the Jim root to get really close sound wise.
I have the micro dark, jim root and dual terror. All sound good but my go to is always the micro dark. It never disappoints. Takes pedals great and I can carry it with my pinky.
What an epic comparison!
I can't believe how good that rocker terror sounds next to the OR15 and TH30.
Love this video. As a recent convert to Orange amps, this is an awesome comparison. I was most interested in the two high gain models in current production - the Rockerverb and the Dark Terror, and at present I’m leaning toward the DT, mostly for price point, but I also have no need of a 50 watt amp. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d love to see a Rockerverb in the spirit of the DSL20HR - small amp with big bottle tubes - and I know the RV has an attenuator, but really, that’s just wasting a lot of wattage. Oh well. A guy can dream, right? My interests aside you seriously have some of the best, most thorough, and professional-sounding amp demos out there. My sincere compliments!
I really liked the rockerverb, but the th30 surprised me, and the or15 sounded really good too
Thanks for another awesome demo! Not sure if you've ever had the chance to play one, but if you ever cross paths with the Thunderverb 50, do not pass it up! When it comes to amps that have real, honest-to-god MAGIC in them, the TV50 is one them and unlike anything else I've ever heard in the Organge lineup or any other. The low end has so much mass and it saturates in a way that is absolutely sublime. Sure, you could use a graphic EQ and bump up the bass on any other amp but the TV50 just has the very distinct flex. The only thing I can liken it to is the sort of magic that a Dual Rectifier has. Totally different vibe, but it's just one of those things that you have to experience. I had a TV50 with one of the Orange oversized 4x12's and personally, it made the biggest rock and metal sounds that I have ever heard.
Once again an amazing video comparison!
Would love to see what your thoughts are on the older Ampeg VH-140c head. Been using that thing on countless metal records for almost 25 years. I think you'd likey. 🤘
GREAT demo !
I would have loved to hear the Orange Thunderverb 50 (my fav Orange) in this test !
Such a good comparison, this channel never disappoints! Also…did anyone else Eskimo Joe vibes from that opening arpeggio?
Love the riff you used in your demonstrations my dude
I'd say the OR15 is really speaking to me for some reason
Rockerverb is definitely on my list of dream amps.
Awesome video!
The Rockerverb sounded the fullest and is definitely on my shopping list. I have a Dark Terror and a Jim Root Terror and I love these amps! A Dual Dark is on my list of amps to get as well and would be one I’d like to see a demo on.
Btw, I prefer your demo videos over anyone else’s that I’ve seen.
Keep kickin’ ass 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Cheers!!!
Great vids brother. Really appreciate all your content . Love all these Orange amps. I have an EVH 6l6 50 watt and been eye balling these Orange amps cuz I dig the sound of em and curious to hear what they would sound like in a mix with an EVH or something like a mesa recto.
I use an Orange Tiny Terror model and a Dual Rectifier model when I'm roughing out ideas and they blend ridiculously well in the mix
The best ! Thank you Man!
AD30 hands down. Very articulate sounding.
This dude is Saint Orange!
Subscribed.
i love this guy i haven’t even watch the whole video im only two minutes in and i love him
Great work! My vote goes to the Dark Terror
I got my OR15 on Sunday. It sounds heavenly through my Mesa vertical 2x12.
Wow, that was a lot of work! Which one did you like? Let me know! :)
A hell of a job! Thanks a lot! I'm playing my trusted RV MKI 50 head with 4x6V6 now for at least 10 years and never looked back. The four gainstages on the drivechannel provide many different tones. I experimented with preamptubes for the clean channel which sits somewhere between a Vox and a Fender. It's chimey and has quite some headroom for bigger venues. The OR15 has the same sort of od-structure as the RV. But in fact I liked most of the demo'd amps. I'm just not to keen on the Dark-versions. But that's personal.
Rocker 15 Terror surprised me a bit actually. However, favorite is the Rockerverb (biased opinion as I own the 100w version). The Dark series and TH30 almost seem to be an Orange sprinkled with mesa? Killer video my dude!
I've listened back and forth for an hour. A buddy of mine picked up a or15 and I have the dark terror. I was surprised how awesome the or15 is. But in this comparison the rocker 15 edges them both out
Is it me or the Orange Rocker 15 Terror head sounds better than the Rocker 15 Combo?
Seems like the Combo version drive channel gets fuzzy past 12 o'clock.
@@pedrogarciarobleto Good observation, thats because combo is restricted by that dinky little speaker. Sounds wayyy better in a 2x12 or 4x12 setup.
This amps are not my thing mate, but you really know how to squeeze them to get all the magic from them. Good comparison!!!
I love your in-depth comparison videos. Attention to detail is key, and so are the “control” factors; I like what you keep the same from amp to amp, or guitar to guitar, etc, and even though you have each amp dialed in for a specific kind of sound for different songs, it’s clear what the differences are, and you truly know how to showcase the characteristics at hand. I’ve seen comparisons of Mesa amps, and while it’s clear some folks have a knack for dialing in a recto or mark series amp, they may not truly understand the nuances of either, and will unintentionally do one or the other a disservice. You clearly put a lot of work into not just playing but also listening. Great work - you’ve taught me a lot about layering and combining the amps in my collection, and about achieving the sounds I’m after!
Thanks so much!
fantastic demo! I'm really impressed at how much time and effort you invest into this. I'm ashamed to say it, but it would have been sooo cool to have the new Super Crush in that Comparison.... oh, now I did say it....
I simply don't own one but I would love to try one
@@SonicDriveStudio if you get your hands on one, it would be great to see a comparison between it and your Rockerverb as there are no good comparisons on RUclips between the CR120/SC100 and RV50/100. Great video as always!!
Actually, Hunter on Agufish compared the SC100 and the Rockerverb...but we need more than one comparison!! As always Jon, killer comparison!! I think the TH-30 is gonna be it for me until I can snag a Dual Dark 100
WOW, i lke this video so much. Now i see caracter for each orange amp.❤
Impossible to choose one for me, really, but I do love the riffs 🤘🏽
TH30 owner here. Thank you for representing.
My pleasure!
I own a few of these amps, as well as Mesa Peavey Marshall etc. Produced and engineered an album with the Dark Terror for
Rhythm tracks and the Jim Root for solos. A blend of Palmer PDI 03 cab simulators and Rivera Silent Sister with a Swamp Thang
inside. Killer results during tracking. Great River mic preamps with a 1975 Sennheiser MD421 for cabs, Sytek Preamp with the
Palmer tracks. The band is Ol' Time Moonshine, the track to listen to is Raven vs Hawk. The solo outro is divine.......
*_Gotta say, those Micro amps really hold their own. For $149 and $199, you can’t go wrong with either one of those._*
As much as I love them, I have to say that the heatsinks for the power amp chips are just inadequate. They really shouldn't be pushed to their limits.
Especially considering they're 20 watts
Yup. This channel bangs
Man, the time you spend to make high quality comparisons is incredible. Always like the Rockerverb 50 mkiii the most. Rocker 15 was more impressive than I would have guessed.
Right?!? That thing sounded KILLER!
Really awesome video love the sound of the rockerverb its on another level and i really like the Brent hinds 👌, im a complete beginner and am thinking the micro dark terror will be my first amp 😁 🤟👊
Thank’s you for that man. 👍great
As usual you kill it.
I hope you’ll feature the AD30 separately. You might compare it to the TT... it’s amazing how close they can be.
I used to own an AD 30 and i would have to agree. The TT comes remarkably close.
@@Soldano999 I think they’re the best things Orange has done. Perfect tone really. The others just seem to barely miss. Or15 is also great. More compressed and plenty of (too much) gain but it’s the only other I’d say is 97% as good tonally. And fx loop and tone stack... really easy to turn on and play. Never have to try very hard with it.
@@jaycee30865 well yeah the OR15 in every video i've watched sounded fantastic.
Gotta say, now that I've found this channel it totally kills the other channels I've was watching
Orange for life!
Wow what timing w this..ty man...orange shopping and looking for comparison like this...
Awesome! Enjoy!
I'm honestly pretty amazed at how close you got many of these, but I think the Rockerverb has the slight edge for me.
Out of the micros, I actually like the regular micro over the dark for hi gain - its a bit more biting. Pity about the one tone control/no loop though.
I recently bought a TH30. I’m very impressed. I also have a CR120H; I’d love to hear you jam on one of those.
Rockerverb 50 MKIII and the rocker 15 Terror. Own both love both. Rich tones
