That crunch riff is SO catchy, really really love these demo tracks and the fact you focus on tones and simple riffs rather than showing off shredding. So much more relatable.
Maybe I’m getting old at 52 now but shredding seems a little more focused on showing off guitar skill than the actual tonal qualities of the guitar and amplifiers. At some point letting the notes ring out a little here and there with some reverb really lets the rig sing more than cramming 4000 notes into a 45 second solo, lol. David Gilmour seems to be my main influence because I can hear the patience and articulation when he performs. I do like this channel because it seems to be somewhere in the middle without all the speedy nonsense and I can appreciate the fact this particular song showcases several techniques that are utilized quite often. My two cents, Cool video
@@SonicDriveStudio True but if I was trying to buy one of these amps and wanted to hear what they sound like, I'd need another video to see how it sounds on its own, with only one guitar
1. TH30 because it has the most definition to me. 2. Dark Terror, because even though it is a little less defined to me, it still suits every genre. 3. Rockerverb 50, because it has the classic sound Orange sound, and is still versatile. Honorable mention: Micro Dark, because I have one and it sounds pretty clear. But it doesn’t have the fullness “umf” that it’s bigger all tube brothers have.
Am I going crazy? Listening to this through a pair of studio monitors and the high gain differences in the mix are so minute that are practically indistinguishable if you're not doing A/B testing.
I thought I didn’t like the “Orange sound” until this video. Loved a lot of these. Just ordered a Micro Dark and pretty excited about it especially after watching this. I quite liked it. But now I’m interested in the bigger ones!
This was very interesting. I went through a few times and compared them back to back. My top 3 in order: 1. Rocker 15, 2. Rockerverb 50, 3. Dark Terror. The Rocker and Rockerverb are remarkably close. The Rocker 15 mids cut in a way that just did it for me. I never would have thought I would pick the lunchbox over the fullsize.
Top 3 for me: 1. Dual Terror 2. Rocker 15 3. Micro Dark I hopefully you can update sometimes in the future with the Super Crush and the Crush Pro. Curious about those solid state amps versus the other valve brothers. Thank you for your hard efforts with this video Jon! Cheers!
Watched this video numerous times over. With the exception of all the description parts of each amp head in every segment. Every video sound and look exactly the same. Camera pans to each amp, light on and cable in. No difference to me. Absolutely none. The sound track recorded is really good and the playing is great. Never been disappointed with this channel. Unfortunately after much investigation and paying attention. This one didn't have me believing anything other than the guy is always a great player with killer riffs.
There are minor differences on some, but probably much more evident in the room. But yes- very similar character overall; I was particularly surprised how close all the cleans were. I think any of these could be dialed in to sound close enough to the others for most purposes. And of course most players use some kind of pedal whither it's a boost, EQ, compressor, or some flavor of dirt, meaning when all is said and done, just buy the one that has the features you need and call it a day.
My Orange Micro Dark absolutely decimates my Peavey 6505 MH. I swapped out the factory JJ 12AX7 and put in a Tung Sol, and that made it absolutely roar. The one shape knob gives more flexibility than the MH’s three band eq knobs; even with the presence and resonance knobs optimally eq’d. I’ve been playing it for about seven years, and I couldn’t be happier with it. I’m definitely an Orange fan for life! 🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
I was surprised at the Micro Dark. I own the Rocker Terror 15 and love it, but I might have to get that Micro Dark as well. Thanks for doing this, and I love your songwriting.
May biased since I own an MKIII but that's definitely the best of the bunch. Dual Terror seems a close second for me followed by the OR15. Great demo as always!
A hell of a job! Thanks a lot! I'm playing my trusted RV MKI 50 head with 4x6V6 now for at least 10 years and never looked back. The four gainstages on the drivechannel provide many different tones. I experimented with preamptubes for the clean channel which sits somewhere between a Vox and a Fender. It's chimey and has quite some headroom for bigger venues. The OR15 has the same sort of od-structure as the RV. But in fact I liked most of the demo'd amps. I'm just not to keen on the Dark-versions. But that's personal.
Rocker 15 Terror surprised me a bit actually. However, favorite is the Rockerverb (biased opinion as I own the 100w version). The Dark series and TH30 almost seem to be an Orange sprinkled with mesa? Killer video my dude!
I've listened back and forth for an hour. A buddy of mine picked up a or15 and I have the dark terror. I was surprised how awesome the or15 is. But in this comparison the rocker 15 edges them both out
Is it me or the Orange Rocker 15 Terror head sounds better than the Rocker 15 Combo? Seems like the Combo version drive channel gets fuzzy past 12 o'clock.
You were a big influence with your video and I went for the OR15 . It suit me perfectly and it is an amazing head combine with a booster Spark booster from TC Electronic and a Maxon OD808
I never had an actual, real amp other than my old little marshall bedroomcombo, I got my Neural DSP one day and used it ever since... But I always wanted a real amp and for some reason, I saw myself really drawn towards Orange amps, idk what it is, but their look, their sound, I always enjoyed it. But there are so many of them which all seem pretty similar, so thanks for this video! I'm still amazed by your attention to detail in those reviews, really man, keep up the great work!!
Agree. I think the last riff with the dual terror and rockerverb sounded somewhat similar. The rockerverb sounded meaner and the dual terror sounded airier. I could totally live with the dual terror though.
Amps can take up so much space, it can't be wrong that a big part of the reason I'm heavily favoring Orange for a first amp is their look! Fits right in with my interior design lol
Man, the time you spend to make high quality comparisons is incredible. Always like the Rockerverb 50 mkiii the most. Rocker 15 was more impressive than I would have guessed.
@@Soldano999 I think they’re the best things Orange has done. Perfect tone really. The others just seem to barely miss. Or15 is also great. More compressed and plenty of (too much) gain but it’s the only other I’d say is 97% as good tonally. And fx loop and tone stack... really easy to turn on and play. Never have to try very hard with it.

Love this video. As a recent convert to Orange amps, this is an awesome comparison. I was most interested in the two high gain models in current production - the Rockerverb and the Dark Terror, and at present I’m leaning toward the DT, mostly for price point, but I also have no need of a 50 watt amp. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d love to see a Rockerverb in the spirit of the DSL20HR - small amp with big bottle tubes - and I know the RV has an attenuator, but really, that’s just wasting a lot of wattage. Thanks for the comparison, you did a monumental work! Still impossible to decide which one to take though, so many sounds amazing! The Rockerverb sounds amazing at high gain, and I find the Jim root to get really close sound wise.
I have the micro dark, jim root and dual terror. All sound good but my go to is always the micro dark. It never disappoints. Takes pedals great and I can carry it with my pinky.
Thanks for another awesome demo! Not sure if you've ever had the chance to play one, but if you ever cross paths with the Thunderverb 50, do not pass it up! When it comes to amps that have real, honest-to-god MAGIC in them, the TV50 is one them and unlike anything else I've ever heard in the Organge lineup or any other. The low end has so much mass and it saturates in a way that is absolutely sublime. Sure, you could use a graphic EQ and bump up the bass on any other amp but the TV50 just has the very distinct flex. The only thing I can liken it to is the sort of magic that a Dual Rectifier has. Totally different vibe, but it's just one of those things that you have to experience. I had a TV50 with one of the Orange oversized 4x12's and personally, it made the biggest rock and metal sounds that I have ever heard.
I love your in-depth comparison videos. Attention to detail is key, and so are the “control” factors; I like what you keep the same from amp to amp, or guitar to guitar, etc, and even though you have each amp dialed in for a specific kind of sound for different songs, it’s clear what the differences are, and you truly know how to showcase the characteristics at hand. I’ve seen comparisons of Mesa amps, and while it’s clear some folks have a knack for dialing in a recto or mark series amp, they may not truly understand the nuances of either, and will unintentionally do one or the other a disservice. You clearly put a lot of work into not just playing but also listening. Great work - you’ve taught me a lot about layering and combining the amps in my collection, and about achieving the sounds I’m after!
Great comparison video. Never really used Orange but know a lot more now. Thanks Oh, my LTD Phoenix White will be here tomorrow. That sounded great for the video. Thanks again for helping me on deciding Cheers Dave
Great vid. I have the OR15. Absolutely love it. Throw a Wampler Tumnus in the front and you have bluesy breakup to die for. I get crushing doom tones out of it too.
Great comparison video, as usual... One thing that I noticed on the Micro Dark intro - I feel people on the fence on the Micro Terror vs. Micro Dark - the Dark has a proper effects loop! I know I'm fond of my Micro Dark.
Great comparison and killer songwriting!!! Thank you! The small amps sound so good in the mix. It seems there is no need to spend a lot of money. Properly the difference in sound gets clearer when hearing the amps directly in one room.
I suppose it might not be for everyone but I love that AD30 sound so much. I’m constantly hoping Line 6 adds an AD30 model in some future Helix update.
The Rockerverb sounded the fullest and is definitely on my shopping list. I have a Dark Terror and a Jim Root Terror and I love these amps! A Dual Dark is on my list of amps to get as well and would be one I’d like to see a demo on. Btw, I prefer your demo videos over anyone else’s that I’ve seen. Keep kickin’ ass 🤘🏽🤘🏽 Cheers!!!

Great video! Wow! Nice job! I own a OR120, OR15 and a Micro Dark. I’ve had a Dual Dark 100 and TH100. Ironically my favorites are the Dual Dark and TH100. Lol. You made the Micro Dark sound incredible. My favorite out of that bunch. OR15 is second.
Great work! My vote goes to the Dark Terror
That tiny terror sounds crunchy
Right on my man...lotta work..I really appreciate you and your hard work on..this was perfect all the way around.. boatload of work
Thank you!
Thanks so much!
This amps are not my thing mate, but you really know how to squeeze them to get all the magic from them. Good comparison!!!
Orange for life!
I'm glad I stumbled onto your channel, what an amazing song to put together to highlight the various tones you have while playing different styles.
Love the riff you used in your demonstrations my dude
I'd say the OR15 is really speaking to me for some reason
Great comparison video. Never really used Orange but know a lot more now. Thanks
Oh, my LTD Phoenix White will be here tomorrow. That sounded great for the video. Thanks again for helping me on deciding
Cheers Dave
Dude the amps are amazing and all but I just dig your songs! 😌✊🏽🤘🏽
Great vid. I have the OR15. Absolutely love it. Throw a Wampler Tumnus in the front and you have bluesy breakup to die for. I get crushing doom tones out of it too.
I just got a Jim Root Terror and the thing is a monster.
Though it's a lot bigger than I thought it would be, they look way smaller in the videos.
Great comparison video, as usual... One thing that I noticed on the Micro Dark intro - I feel people on the fence on the Micro Terror vs. Micro Dark - the Dark has a proper effects loop! I know I'm fond of my Micro Dark.
Great work! It was a really great format to highlight all the subtle differences
Thx very much for your great vid & hard work👍. Now & thx to you I now what I need: The OR15!
Love from 🇨🇭
Great comparison and killer songwriting!!! Thank you! The small amps sound so good in the mix. It seems there is no need to spend a lot of money. Properly the difference in sound gets clearer when hearing the amps directly in one room.
WOW, i lke this video so much. Now i see caracter for each orange amp.❤
I hope Orange is paying you. A lot. They sound great, and your song was awesome.
I'm not getting paid fwiw
I guess I'm just passionate
I have one cube from Orange… I liked it a lot! But really liked the dual terror! Great video!
I suppose it might not be for everyone but I love that AD30 sound so much. I’m constantly hoping Line 6 adds an AD30 model in some future Helix update.
I’m with you but I prefer a more vintage voiced amp. I feel like most of the people here are going for super high gain and scooped mids sound.
This is a super nicely put together and thorough video! I definitely hope to see more from you
Thanks!
This dude is Saint Orange!
Subscribed.
Great video, I listened to a couple of amps already and will be coming back to this video in the following days. Thanks for the great work!
Awesome! Cheers!
amazing video! great work. this will help a lot of people in the future.
This is an impressive amount of work!
The stereo Rocker 32 is the clear winner 😅, I would take mine over any of these
The Rockerverb sounded the fullest and is definitely on my shopping list. I have a Dark Terror and a Jim Root Terror and I love these amps! A Dual Dark is on my list of amps to get as well and would be one I’d like to see a demo on.
Btw, I prefer your demo videos over anyone else’s that I’ve seen.
Keep kickin’ ass 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Cheers!!!
Really nice (and useful) comparison, thanks for sharing :D
thanx broski good work ! love your riffs as usual ;)
Wow what timing w this..ty man...orange shopping and looking for comparison like this...
Awesome! Enjoy!
I love the OR 15 and the Dark Terror. How the heck did they get those micros to sound so good. I preferred them to some of the bigger more expensive options.
GREAT demo !
I would have loved to hear the Orange Thunderverb 50 (my fav Orange) in this test !
They really all sounded amazing. I'd probably go with the Rocker 15 Terror or Dual Terror. I'm hoping to test them out someplace.
Great demo! … although to me they all sound almost identical 😂
