Hey Jon. You seem to use this NW44 waaaay more than your other guitars - I guess you love it. Why is that? I'm thinking about buying it since you use it soo much
My th30 has become my go to amp for most recording projects, whether it be shoegaze/dream pop, indie, jazz, or stoner rock and metal. It’s so versatile and a great pedal platform. The shape knob is has incredible range. I usually use the dirty channel for clean tones, just turning the gain knob to 2 and volume to 7 or higher - this lets me get more “sparkle” out of the clean tones vs the clean channel bc of the shape knob.
As heavy as it sounded (dual rec heavy) and you just said “stoner rock”… fuckin sold. You just sold an amplifier. That’s all I need. I have a (my daughter has) Fender Blues Jr for clean, I need that next level thing to go with an orange bass terror.
@@petarzutic1165 absolutely! I’ve yet to encounter a scenario in which I felt that more volume or headroom was necessary. A 1x12 cabinet should be sufficient for rehearsals and club gigs. Yeah, I'm not surprised by anything anymore. I've seen people rock clubs with basically just a friedman pedal or a orange lunchbox amp. Technology is amazing.

Can't overstate how much respect I have for the way you do this. RUclips should be taking notes. Factor in my love for riff driven doom, and I think the TH30 is the logical compromise. So yeah... all of them.
I'd go for the OR15 in this genre. It was very similar to the Rockerverb, but had the high-end fizz shifted to a more pleasing area and it was a tad more beefy.
I had to sell almost everything about two months back while moving and am now trying to put a rig back together. TH-30 is at the top of the list, I freaking love that amp!
The cr120 head sounds amazing with its matching 4x12 cab. It's only half the amp through most other cabs. I highly recommend one though. It sounds just as good as my rockerverb mk3 now that I have the cab.
I run one through a Marshall Lead 4x12 cab from the 90s in my doom band. Very very VERY insane sounding. Every other band we play with uses it. Honestly the best amp I've owned by far. The only other one that comes close is my OR15H.
@@jacobm7421 no tf it doesnt lol a companies $500 solid state sounds as good as their flagship $2300 amp. I guess they can discontinue the rockerverb then haha. Nope its sounds good but not comparable to these amps lets alone the rv100iii

The back-to-back comparisons are what makes this so valuable. I have to look away and just listen. Doing so I could easily pick out the TH30 with its fizzy/wooly sound. Man, when you were playing the palm-muted riffs, that was my favorite sound. I could see what you meant by it being geared for modern metal. Nice job again. I think I'm just going to play with the new Rockerverb on my HX Stomp for a while...
I was absolutely set on getting a TH30 head and 2 x 12 cabinet. The combo only having one 12" speaker was a dealbreaker. Plus, the look of a separate head and cabinet was much more appealing than a combo. Your video, more than any other I've seen, pursuaded me to change my mind and get a Rockerverb combo instead. I SO wanted a separate head and cabinet, and that option with a TH30 would have actually costed about $200 less, but the sound is so much better with the Rockerverb, I was really surprised that the TH30 was my least favorite here. Considering this is my first (and probably only) Orange, and possibly the last amp I buy if I wish to stay married, it should be more about sound than aesthetics. Spending about $200 more to get a combo instead, largely due to this video, which is saying something. So---I thank you, even though my wife may not...
Great idea for a comparison, love this! I love my OR15 and hearing it compared against the Rockerverb and the TH30 in this style makes me feel very confident that it was the right choice to get Rockerverb-style sounds without blowing my roof off (though it still gets crazy loud if you let it).
I have the Th100, it is the best amp imaginable. Turning the shape and gain all the way up on the dirty channel yields the ultimate, crushing metal tone. The clean channel, on the hand, sounds just as good as a Twin Reverb, if not better. I've had it for three years now and I want to add a rockerverb 50 mk iii to my collection. No other brand holds a candle to Orange, they are simply the most versatile, clear, and full sounding amps to my ears.
I have a Micro head with an Orange 1x12 cab that I love for jamming alone in my little studio room, but it might be time to jump up to an OR15. Thought it sounded great.
Great comparison… without question the rockerverb was tops, TH30 just sounded too modern for the style. I’m always surprised by the OR15, sounded great and held its ground well for what it is.
As someone who just acquired a TH30 on Saturday, I am pumped by your playing and description of the tonal character of the amp. I'm currently running mine in stereo with a PRS MT15 and they complement one another VERY nicely. Keep doing what you do, -Joel
Great amp, I've the same with the choice of a 1x12 closed back and a 2x12 open back and it sounds great through both. Playing a Suhr Strat into it and sometimes split through a Helix floor with the FX loop. Brilliant amps, great sound.
That’s what I want to do as well. I got an OR15 and want to run mine with the MT15 so I can get modern sounds and a American like clean channel. Do you like the cleans of the MT15?
@@DelScully The M15 cleans are good to go for most folks. I run a Tumnus Deluxe before my ABY box to butter up the clean channels of both amps, though. Good thing I don't have to tap dance live. I even stuck a 5751 tube in one of the 12ax7 tube slots to tame things a touch, but word is the gain knob's taper pot is to blame. Full gain very early on the dial. Still love it. You can overdrive the Orange as you like. Metal up.
Got I love ORANGE- The Rockerverb MK III 50 is the shit. I notice also that if you play at half wattage (25) you get a grittier sound that pushes the pregain section. Great for all STONER rock. Sleep/Sabbath/Elder. It's my Killa Amp... n so much more
Just as I feared -- I definitely prefer the Rockerverb. Dang it. =D The TH30 might sound really good w/ some Eminence Swamp Thang speakers, though (for doom metal / sludge / similar).
OR15 sounds great, I feel like it sits better in the mix, TH30 sounded not so great in the mix but awesome alone and the rockerverb was the best overall, although, might be a bit lost in the mix with another guitar? I went for the Rocker 15 for the convenience of being able to play at home, I think it sounds quite similar to the OR15.
I got me an OR-15 and its straight fire. I use it at home and rarely take off the 7W mode, but when you click to 15 and go balls out, it really shreds.
the Bareknuckle Aftermath works fucking amazingly for these Orange amps. I usually don't like Orange but the guitar really makes the difference for me here. I'm really digging that sound.
I listened to this a few times, and I liked the Rockerverb the most because it sounded the most versatile and it blended well in studio situations. It also has a really great blend of harmonic content, as well as a chimeyness to it, especially when playing big chords. The OR15 is a favorite of mine because of its abundance of harmonic content. I think with that amp though you would really need to take some time dialing in a great tone and pair it with the best guitar for the sound you want. Because of that, I think that it comes in third place for me in this video. Surprisingly enough, the TH30 was a very close second to the Rockerverb. It was very open and almost hollow sounding. I also noticed a great amount of presence in its tone. I have never been big on the TH30, but after this video, I think I need to really give it another look. In my work in the studio, I think that I would pair the Rockerverb with the TH30 for rhythm guitars because they really seem to complement each other. If money was no object, I would just buy all 3 amps and call it a day.
I have an OR15 and funnily enough it sounds best with the EQ at noon! I make slight changes depending on the cab I'm plugged into, but generally speaking it takes little to no effort at all to get an awesome tone. Whack up the volume, put the gain to around 1 o'clock, put a boost in front, and it's an absolute metal machine. Take the boost off and roll your guitar volume back, and you get some decent cleans. Not Fender-clean, but very good all the same.
The 3 back to back to back sounded really great. The Rockerverb sounded too middy and all over the place, the TH30 sounds scooped (which I do like), but the OR15 sounds just right for the Stoner/Doom genres. Making my decision much easier in what to purchase (OR15). Play just to play, record, disturb the neighbors and drive my adult kids crazy.
Got so pumped when i saw this. Your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites! Can you make a video about how you set your tones, and write, record, and mix your riffs? They are always super fat, juicy, and inspiring. Cheers!
I love this video! I also use my NW-44 for stoner/doom/sludge stuff through my TH-30, it's great to see someone else do the same! btw sounds monstrous as always.
I'm astonished, not by the quality of those 3 amps, but the structure of the review. It should be a school-taught standard what you did there buddy. thx, i'm definitely loving and considering buying the RV50.
I love your videos I just wish you would mic up a cab once in a while. I feel like a miced cab gives you a better sense of how an amp sounds when you are in the room with it over an IR. Keep up the killer videos. Also I have wanted a TH30 forever thanks to Pepper Keenan from COC
The RV50 definitely has more beef & balls. Been wanting one for a while now so this was an excellent comparison. Thanks! P.s.This will be for both rehearsals & shows.
Awesome comparison between the 3 amps 👍👍 I use an Orange Or 15 and a Rockerverb 50 MKii , I find these two amps can get similar tones , both great amps for sure. Speaker cab makes a big difference as well. I use different cabs to get different tones also. Great channel 👍
Thanks so much for this! I've been going back and forth and combing through endless forums between these amps. To my ears the TH30 is the sound I'm looking for. 🍻🤘
I own a OR15 since 1 year., 1 channel , 1 love. I think is a very clever lunchbox head, light and cheap and what a sound ! high gain, crunch and marvellous clean , what do you need more ? and what a look, afterall !
Great video! They all deliver a variation of that Orange saturation. Instantly made me think of Death From Above or Royal Blood. The TH30 and OR15 have this fizzy sound (not sure at which frequency) that once I hear it, I can't help but focus on that fizz kinda like noticing a blemish on something and all you can do is stare at it lol. That said, the TH30 delivers more modern tones whereas the Rockerverb just has this tight upper mid crunch that I always associate with the Orange sound 🍊
This was good. I like the TH30 man it mixes best, High end cuts through and low end is the rumble in the balls you need from an amp. Uses in 7 mode is PERFECT for bedroom practice and the other modes are perfect for gigs small and large.
I have the Micro Dark and even their tiny amp heads are ridiculously loud! Very versatile. Much like the TH it has the shape knob. You can scoop it for metal, or bring up the mids which is where I usually have it, more of a Sabbath/QOTSA territory. But I can also roll off the gain and it's great for blues gigs!
I was so impressed with the or15 that just had to watch some more demo videos for that ano and now I am gassing bad for one..it used to be the selection for high quality low watt anps was basically non existant now every manufacturer has killer low watt anps more and more I find myself preferring the sound of amps 20 watts and below in comparison videos
Got the rockerverb 50 mkiii a couple weeks ago...tone is awesome and it’s super versatile..👍

The TH30 is great, I am so happy with it I play mostly metal but I like great clean tones. I like to have different overdrive pedals (I have 4 different overdrives and they act like EQs but in front of the amp) . A maxon808 makes this amp sounds great. I also like to drop a 10 band EQ pedal in the FX loops to cut frequencies and remove undesired elements (I do not boost frequencies in the FX loop).
Ty Tabor of King's X plays Orange amps-the solid state ones. He knows a bit about tone. Saw them live two years ago and he sounded great. Orange rocks! Early Sabbath, Zeppelin...
This is how a comparison should be done. Awesome job. Enough time to hear each amp and because it's 3 you can compare them all against eachother. I used to have Rockerverb 50 and sold it for a 74 twin and some celestion blue speaker for a vox. Do not regret getting the twin, but man I miss the Rockerverb. Every shootout it comes out on top for me. The TH30 certainly added a lot of oomph in the mix, but on it's own it's not for me. The 15 and 50 sound very similar. There's just this almost nasally added frequency to the rockerverb that I really love. Someday we'll meet again.
I love going my TH30 into my ppc212 closed back I bounce between the TH30 and the Brent Hinds signature amp because it kinda has that old school Marshall JMP flavor going on. When I'm gigging I'm typically blending my TH30 and Marshal DSL amps
Damn, I'm actually hearing better sounds from the OR15 here. Just seems to rumble better. Great comparison video and I definitely appreciate the work that goes into this.
Thanks for the video! I am partial to my Rockerverb 50 Mk1 paired with a PPC412AD. The 6V6 output section sounds huge without the annoying fizz of the later RV's with EL34'S. In the video I prefer the clarity of the TH30. It seems the Orange philosophy goes very well with EL84's.😎
Fantastic comparison Jon... the Rockerverb has the most balanced sound without a doubt... such a beast of an amp... so kind of you for sharing this... by the way, those mixes sounds huge and punchy... the mixing approach is the same as you explained in your video from october 4th, 2019 ? (didn't see any other more recent though) If not, it would be really cool to share a mixing/master walkthrough for these now in this video. Thanks so much. Keep up the good work man !
I had a pair of th30's for a little while. They were fun, but I realized they were a little brittle (maybe better for thrash metal?) and lesser in build quality, than the or100 I have now. I consider the sale of the two th's to obtain a single or100, one of my best moves. Been loving the or100 for nearly a decade now. Paired with a ppc212, its glorious. The clean channel has so much pop at 16ohm, its crazy. I use the valve return with an axefx a lot as well. Simply stellar!
I’m a big fan of my ORV mkiii. It has been a shocking revelation for me how good it sounds. I’ve always gravitated towards 5150 & Mesa style amps. Now I use my RV mkiii or my Badlander for my rhythm tone, I use my KSR and Stealth for leads.
they all sound distinct but great. the 30 reminds me of electric wizard, the 50 of mastodon, and the OR15, not sure but it's a little smoother and more 1960's sounding. I've had the OR15 for a long time now and will probably never get rid of it, unless maybe I traded it for the 50
I own an OR15, and absolutely love it. A Rockerverb is the dream, but budget says it would be the T30 if I need to upgrade. I'm quite jealous of your collection. Love your vids, man.
Well you are the reason of why I bought the OR15 and this video confirms that it was the right choice. Its an amazing head and your videos are so helpful . The Rockerverb sound incredible but I really like the OR15 too
Great video! When I hear “stoner rock”, I think of the grunge seattle era... this sounds more like nu metal to me... but great tones and demonstrations of the amps!
I’ve been using the TH30 model on my GE300 modeller all the time recently. Such a great high gain sound. This video convinced me I need to get the original head as well.
I have the same amp. Best amp I’ve ever owned. I also run a Rockerverb 100 MKIII through 3 4x12’s. I wish my Rockerverb could keep up with my Matamp. That Matamp is so much louder.
very cool sounds and comparison. it is astonishing how great that little amp is. sounded a bit darker and compressed but nothing a good fuzz couldn't cure there :) thanks!
Stick a treble boost in front of the or15 and it'll sing. Would be a killer amp if you have already have something bright like a Marshall, that'll make your sound huge! Awesome playing dude
SDS, awesome video, love my TH30. Your riffs are always so great, would love for you to put out a video showing a few "how to play" on these killer riffs!!
The 15w amp is only 5.2dB quieter than the 50w, into the same cab. 10 x log(15/50) = 5.2 If you ran the 15w amp into a full stack of two 4 x 12 cabs, it would actually be LOUDER than the 50w amp into a single 2 x 12.
Im not smart enough to know if this is right but man do i wanna believe you!!! And first hand experience, i can bury the super crush 100 w/ 2x12 with my or15 and 4x12 cab. I mean bury it, cant hear super crush at all hahaha
Very nice. I'm a huge Orange fan (OR50, OR15, Rockerverb 50 MKII, PPC212 & PPC112) and stoner rock. I think you nailed it. Very Orange Goblin-ish tune (I think guitarist play marshall. Bassist definitely plays Orange). The rockerverb series Seems to be the most versatile of their amps but, the OR15 always surprises for such a compact head. I think I read somewhere that the OR15 was derived from the Rocker 30 preamp. Cheers.
The rocker verb 50 sound best to me. More headroom and clarity than the others. The OR15 was surprisingly good. I play a uniquely modified Tiny Terror modded myself. It would have been cool to hear my amp stack up against these amplifiers.
So...I've been consuming so much of your Orange amp content lately and you are, by far, my favorite amp demo channel. I've been searching high and low for info and videos on the orange or50h and find very little. As far as what is out there, the quality is lackluster. Any way, can you please demo an OR50h and compare that to the Rockerverb, OR15, and TH30? I'd love your thoughts. FYI, just ordered one used today sight unseen (nothing in my state) had to buy on reverb out of state with little to no experience with the OR50 other than forum opinions and very little youtube vids. Please help! Please do this review!!!!
You said stoner metal but that sounds like a Rammstein riff!! love orange, I thought all the distortion circuits in their other amps were based off the rockerverb, no? I know the crush pro series is for sure.

the Bareknuckle Aftermath works fucking amazingly for these Orange amps. I usually don't like Orange but the guitar really makes the difference for me here. I'm really digging that sound.
It's a great guitar!
Have you guys tried any Ibanez guitars with Aftermaths? I’m curious if they sound the same?
Very impressed with the OR15 as a budget option.
Even with the fizzy's, I still love the TH-30 best. The Rockerverb holds up well too. TT
I actually like the 15 watter the best . Less fizzy than the other 2 and more classic orange sounding.
OR 15 equals zero fizz even with stock tubes.
Cheers! :) Love the NW-44!
This video helped a lot.
Bought the TH30 this month!
same here 👌🏻👍🏻
TH30 beautiful high end look good for gigs and home ofc a lil more distortion and bass for my personal preference good balanced amps
The RV50 definitely has more beef & balls. Been wanting one for a while now so this was an excellent comparison. Thanks! P.s.This will be for both rehearsals & shows.
Man that was fun! Rockerverb kicks ass, tones to die for.....back to my TT :-)
OR15 is where it's at! I play 80s metal and it still kills without any pedals!
But its 15watts. Great for recording and practice only.
@@dmgtter 15 watts is loud enough.
Personally I dig the overall tones of all three but for my purposes I'd love too have the OR15.
TH30 sounds great, arrogant, raw, big, impressive
Probably my favorite amp I've ever tried. Haven't played the rockerverb, though...yet haha
Really nice. All the way around! Orange always been fantastic !!!!!! Kudos to the LTD as well!!!👍👍👍💋
Your videos are the kind I can come back to reference tones and just enjoy them
I have the Micro Dark and even their tiny amp heads are ridiculously loud!
They all sound very similar. Im a long time fan of the or15..best small amp ever!
I had a th30 and the or15 is way better!
In the mix, I favored the TH30. By itself, I slightly favored the Rockerverb. All 3 sounded killer though.
My thoughts exactly
Wow excellent job, awesome sounding, recording and playing. Nice rifs too 🤘🏼 Thanks, now I want the 3 of them!!!
It's great to see that you're using the ESP NW-44 for a stoner sound!
It's one of my favourite guitars as well :)
Orange Rockerverb 50 MKIII all day long! They all sound pretty great, though.
they all sound distinct but great. the 30 reminds me of electric wizard, the 50 of mastodon, and the OR15, not sure but it's a little smoother and more 1960's sounding. I've had the OR15 for a long time now and will probably never get rid of it, unless maybe I traded it for the 50
Orange never fails to disappoint 👍
Which of these 3 awesome amps would you choose and why?
All of them.
@@Niedergauss same haha!
I did not expect the TH30 to be this good.
The Rockerverb sound incredible but I really like the OR15 too
The TH30 sounds amazing with great headphones on. Great video…
Great video! When I hear “stoner rock”, I think of the grunge seattle era... this sounds more like nu metal to me... but great tones and demonstrations of the amps!
well, you think and hear wrong, I fear... :-3
@@dildojizzbaggins6969 no you do (adolescent snotty tone) :)
@@chadbouterse8617 *raspberryblow* :D
Love how in your face the th30 sounds
I’ve been using the TH30 model on my GE300 modeller all the time recently. Such a great high gain sound. This video convinced me I need to get the original head as well.
whata beautiful presentation, a joy for the ears and eyes. This master content creator should have more subscibers.
Damn. Your guitar tones are always right on point.
Hugely reminded me of Mastodon and you got me absolutely on board with that... Such sweet and nasty tones, love it!!
Woow the rockerverb is huge and warm sounding! I have to buy one
Id love to see an in depth Mk1(w/ 6V6's) vs mk3 RVRB comparison. I know you dont have a Mk1 but if you ever have the chance to borrow one maybe?
You should also look into a Matamp. I have a GT120MV and it sounds amazing with a boost pedal in front!
I have the same amp. Best amp I’ve ever owned. I also run a Rockerverb 100 MKIII through 3 4x12’s. I wish my Rockerverb could keep up with my Matamp. That Matamp is so much louder.
I’d love to hear that Rockerverb with a drop a or lower tuning, boosted, with a heavier genre like death doom.
I love watching your videos dude ! Really in depth but still easy to digest !
I have the or15 and I must say I absolutely love it. i run it thru a cannibis rex 1x12 and its an awesome jam setup, perfect for writing.
very cool sounds and comparison. it is astonishing how great that little amp is. sounded a bit darker and compressed but nothing a good fuzz couldn't cure there :) thanks!
Stick a treble boost in front of the or15 and it'll sing. Would be a killer amp if you have already have something bright like a Marshall, that'll make your sound huge! Awesome playing dude
The Th n OR series are decent amps but at high volume they don't have the Balls and pure Thrust as The Rockerverb. But What Does?
SDS, awesome video, love my TH30. Your riffs are always so great, would love for you to put out a video showing a few "how to play" on these killer riffs!!
Cheers!
The 15w amp is only 5.2dB quieter than the 50w, into the same cab.
10 x log(15/50) = 5.2
If you ran the 15w amp into a full stack of two 4 x 12 cabs, it would actually be LOUDER than the 50w amp into a single 2 x 12.
Im not smart enough to know if this is right but man do i wanna believe you!!! And first hand experience, i can bury the super crush 100 w/ 2x12 with my or15 and 4x12 cab. I mean bury it, cant hear super crush at all hahaha
@@Ron4president09 I'm not surprised!
I own the TH30 an the OR 15 and I love all, the Rockerverb 50 MKIII too.
Cheers.
I had Rocker 30 and now I have OR15. They are different. OR15 is Rockerverb based...
The rocker verb 50 sound best to me.
More headroom and clarity than the others.
The OR15 was surprisingly good.
I play a uniquely modified Tiny Terror modded myself.
It would have been cool to hear my amp stack up against these amplifiers.
instant Mastodon vibes :)
Great comparison! Can you plug two 16ohm 4x12 cabs into the TH30 though? or would you have to daisy chain them into one of the 8ohm jacks
No, it would have to be two 8 ohm cabinets using both 8 ohm output jacks on the back of the amp.
That Rockerverb just sounds huuuge in a mix. Impressed with OR15 for 1/3 the price of an MKIII
Killer riffs man!
I have a TH30 and I absolutely love it.
As is often the case very hard to pick through a Recording. But being in the room the differences are vast.
the TH30 has balls. The other sound more refined but not a bad amp by a long shot.
I'm die hard orange but mostly use my amps as a pedal platform, digging the single channel on the OR15, like to keep it simple
