Reimagining Custom Moves for Smash Ultimate

  • With more DLC confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, even more content will be headed our way in the coming months...but the sheer amount of content also makes the features that didn't make it stick out even more than before. One such feature from Smash 4 that didn't make the cut this time was the option to customize each (non-DLC) character's loadout of special moves with alternate versions that varied up their moveset. While customs wound up with a mixed reception for various reasons, there's still a lot of untapped potential and there's surely some people wondering what they could be like in Ultimate--or Smash 6 or whatever comes next--with the right reworking and balancing.
So how about we take a closer look? Here's one take on what custom specials could be like if they were ever revived, as shown by six certain fighters.

It's really funny how Aura Sphere, the move that never misses in pokemon games, is Lucario's inconsistent move and Focus Blast, the move that infamously misses at important times, is supposed to be more consistent.

    • @fictionfan0

He's referring to the moves in the context of Smash, with Aura Sphere scaling with the damage percent and Focus Blast doing more *consistent* damage regardless.

YEAH CUSTOM MOVES! It was a shame that they never expanded on this. Having only one custom option is probably the best option, and while I would prefer the second special to different from the default one, having them be better made altered forms of the defaults isn’t that bad either, though I feel those could be worked into Echo Fighters to make them slightly more unique.

Custom moves are impractical at this point. Having even one custom move per special for all characters will take longer than most people believe. Think about it. Smash 4 has a roster of 55 excluding the Miis. Smash Ultimate has a roster of 83 when you exclude the miis, count Pokémon Trainer as one fighter, and include the second unreleased fighter pass. That's over a 50% increase. Keep in mind that Smash 6's roster is likely to be even bigger than Smash Ultimate's roster and could hypothetically be a 100% size increase from Smash 4.
What all of this basically means is that the workload to give everyone even one custom move per special in the next Smash installment be roughly the same as two custom moves per special in Smash 4, and that does not even include the drawing board phase, which will be even more rigorous of a process due to more ideas Nintendo will to conceive in order to execute the idea. It's not only impractical at this point, but it's also controversial.
What I think should be done is that the three characters built around customization should be expanded on. Since Miis can literally be anything, why not let them fight literally any way the players want to. You can give them a larger array of custom moves and even customization moves (or sets of moves) for the A button.

    • @soulplayrt463
      @soulplayrt463 4 года назад +2

I have to disagree, if Nintendo does make the roster a fresh start, only having 8, 12 character pre sets, it would be smarter to have people be able to make an in depth character creator and really focus on balancing traits and making them actually pull from their games instead of just expanding a roster, if Nintendo does at any point reset the roster down to a clean start, they know for a fact that the new game will need to have something which makes people want to buy it over the old one & they won't be able to keep popular third party characters once their contract expires for using them, then will need a soloution and this fixes alot of the upcoming problems they will run into

Bowser Jr. has a bunch of different things the clown cart could do
Mewtwo learns many other moves, like Psychic, for example
Wario has too many places for inspiration
      So does Palutena
Corrin could focus less on their draconic abilities and utilize a faster-but-smaller change in set; Neutral-B I’m not so sure of
Peach’s would be inspired by her Smash 4 customs
Daisy’s would be based closer to the sports games she tends to appear in often
Also I was just informed that Peach’s animations from Melee would fit Daisy well

Bullet Bills are known for their speed, and they also are powerful. But then there's the balancing. I agree with no-charging, but i'd have it go straight. I'd have the Bullet Bills be attackable to buff them. It can do much shield damage, and may even explode on contact with the opponent. But if any attack or hitbox touches the bullet bill, it will explode and not hurt the opponent. Again: Faster, Stronger, but can be avoided. Maybe this isn't the best way to balance it though.

Sonic’s revamped custom moves should actually reference Modern Sonic:
    Homing Attack is fine
Up-B would be Blue Tornado from Sonic Heroes, referencing Sonic’s affinity for wind and not just spawning a random spring
Side-B and Down-B are both very similar Spindashes so I’d just have one be his Down-B

Tbh i feel like the spindash should be transferred to side b instead, combine the two, and then list all their factors and only add in the greater ones, i know it's supposed to be Down B for the classic callback since Sonic 2, but in Sonic 1 the only way to spindash was by moving forward.
And then his down B could be that projectile move from Sonic battle, being basically a power wave but the damage and knockback output would be as much power as an arial one, also being able to aim in air.

    Mario Alternate Specials:
Neutral B: Ice Ball (freezes at high % but only flinches at lower % and deals less damage)
Side B: Tanooki Tail (Deals more damage at front and cape's normal damage on back side)
Down B: Cappy Launch (Throws cappy as a projectile like k rools crown, with most of its properties; cant use if cap goes of level, doesnt have taunt or cap for about 5 seconds, small hitbox and small hurtbox)
Up B: propeller hat jump (based on propeller suit from new super mario. Mario quickly flies up similarly to meta knight tornado where it has multiple hits. However, mario will discend much slower - slightly slower than dedede - leaving him slightly more vulnerable, but he can attack out of it)

    • @thelivingart9108
      @thelivingart9108 4 года назад +2

Here is my suggestion for side B
Side B: Cappy Toss (When used on air, it will stall him in the air for a bit while throwing cappy direcety in front of him and pressing Side B again will make him do a foward lunge which will make him bounce on Cappy. Throwing cappy again will no longer stall him in the air which will make him miss Cappy. When Mario hits Cappy, there will be a spike hitbox. He can only use this move once in the air and will only regain uses if he hits cappy or goes back on stage. On the air Cappy will have a weak hitbox which deals low damage and knockback. If used on the ground, it functions similarly to Link's boomerang. In addition Cappy will deal more damage)
Basically. More horisontal recovey. Mix up potential and can be used to zone on the ground. However it cannot be used to reflect projectiles.

In terms of other custom moves for Inkling if we were going to make a full set, they should have:
    • Range Blaster - A slow but long range shooter that deals large damage and knockback, more if you get a direct hit, but does consumes more ink.
    • Dynamo Roller - Deals large damage while being able to fling large blobs of ink at opponents that deal decent damage and knockback and the burying effect is much stronger even at low percentages, but is much slower to roll around.
    • Quick Super Jump - A much faster recovery with reduced start and end lag that’s able to can more distance vertically but less distance horizontally and deals less damage on the ink splatter.
    • Suction Bomb - A bomb that can stick the pretty much any surface and will explode after 2 seconds after sticking onto a surface with the explosion dealing more damage, knockback and has a bigger radius than the Splat Bomb.

    Greninja:
Neutral Special Variant: *Dark Pulse*: Takes longer to charge, but Greninja will fire a horizontally spinning wave of darkness that stuns foes far longer than Water Shuriken (referencing Dark Pulse's ability to flinch targets), presenting an opportunity for a follow-up.
Side Special Variant: *Night Slash*: Instead of having Greninja's shadow tell you how far he will go during a charge, Greninja will instead wield a watery kunai that begins to blacken and glow purple as it charges. This forces both you and your opponent to switch your attention to the kunai as opposed to Greninja's shadow. The attack is a bit slower in execution, but in reference to Night Slash's high chance of becoming a critical-hit move, it boasts far more impressive damage and knockback. Additionally, there is no stronger hit variant based on the control stick direction, unlike Shadow Sneak.
Up Special Variant: *Smokescreen*: A single stream of smoke that covers more distance than a single Hydro Pump blast but slightly less than a double Hydro Pump blast, in addition to only being able to launch Greninja in a single direction, somewhat like his Single-Shot Pump variant from Sm4sh. If an opponent is hit by Smokescreen at any point, their controls will be momentarily reversed (like how Mario's Cape works). Additionally, Greninja will not be forced into a tumble upon hitting a wall when using Smokescreen.
Down Special Variant: *Ice Punch*: This one has to be my favorite. When attacked, Greninja reappears behind the opponent to deliver an icy punch and freeze them along with anyone inside the counterattack range. Though Greninja doesn't go flying around like he does for Substitute, the freezing effect lasts significantly long, about two and a half seconds. The opponent is not launched, but this gives Greninja another opportunity for a follow-up attack, such as Dark Pulse or a stylish setup.

Neutral Special Variant: *Ancient Power* : Like in the anime, it consists of a silvery ball of energy, charged and fired the same way as Shadow Ball, albeit doing less damage and knockback but having a chance of granting Mewtwo various buffs (in a similar vein to Ancient Power's side effect in the home games and Wii Fit Trainer's Deep Breathing) upon firing.
Side Special Variant: *Psycho Cut* : Mewtwo loses its reflector abilities, but performs a quick, powerful psychic slash with its arm once the opponent is caught. Though the attack's ending lag is increased, the move is capable of dealing a lot of damage and knockback, potentially K.O.-ing earlier than expected.
Up Special Variant: *Giga Impact* : Travels slightly less distance and has significantly more ending lag (akin to Giga Impact's recharge mechanic in the home games) but gives Mewtwo an _extremely_ powerful and rather large hitbox upon reappearing, capable of delivering a vicious punishment to opponents hanging onto the ledge for far too long.
Down Special Variant: *Hypnosis* : Like Jigglypuff's Sing, puts opponents to sleep with the psychic wave instead of stunning them. Though its range is limited to what is in front of Mewtwo, it has significantly less ending lag than Jigglypuff's Rest. In addition, Hypnosis can be B-reversed, unlike Disable.

Joker flicks a small light blue glint at the opponent, doing basically only 2 damage. But it slows down the opponent for a small amount of time.

Squirtle could have something like Scald instead of Water Gun, acting much like Mario's custom down B
Shell Smash instead of Withdraw, it could deal much higher damage compensating for slower speed and lack of invulnerability
Ivysaur could have Seed Bomb instead of Bullet Seed, acting much like Snake's Up smash and planting a flower on the opponent's head if it connects (like PM Ivy)
Magical Leaf instead of Razor Leaf, would track opponents like Homing Missile and is a bit stronger, but would be quite a bit slower

    Link:
B: Fire Arrows - Take longer to charge but do more damage and have fire damage element
Side B: Weapon throw - Like botw, throws a weapon at the opponent, unlike the boomerang, doesn't return but does more damage and can also be angled
Up B: Revali's Gale - A gust of wind that can push opponents away, Link takes out his paraglider after Revali's gale to paraglide.
Down B: Cube Remote Bomb- Unlike the spherical counterpart, does not move when placed, has a 45 second lifespan in comparison to the 30 second lifespan of the spherical bomb
    Cloud:
B: Blade Beam Diffusion - A blade beam that is slower to come out but does more damage and can pass through multiple opponents. It's damage output is halved after each opponent it passes through
Side B: Magic - Cloud can use an elemental magic (fire, ice or lightning magic) based on the materia he selects (similar to Shulk's monado selection instead you hold side b to cycle through)
Up B: Meteorain - Cloud jumps up and shoots a couple meteors from his sword. The moves only hitboxes are from the meteors.
Down B: Limit Charge / Deathblow - Charges Limit when the Limit gauge is not full. If full, the move swaps to deathblow, which is similar to finishing touch, but does critical damage and very low knockback instead

I'm honestly mixed on the whole custom moves thing in general. It's kind of fun to experiment with, but all in all I prefer the characters just having a core kit to stick to. Makes you more prepared for tournaments and it just causes selecting a character in local multiplayer to be more convenient.
Though the idea behind this video causes me to have two questions for you.
    1. With how much work it took to bring back all of the veterans in Ultimate, some people have had the idea of the next Smash game being a reboot that takes specific characters and updates, or more accurately, changes their moveset. Your thoughts on this idea?
    2. What's your opinion on the controversies surrounding the movesets of Ganondorf, Sonic, and Wario? Specifically the whole "Falcondorf over Zelda source material" for Ganondorf, the "two spin dashes" for Sonic, and the "Wario doesn't feel like Wario in Smash" for Wario.
To elaborate a bit more on that last one. The complaints usually boil down to a lack of source material for Wario's moves. Lack of Wario Land moves, the Wario Waft being a made-up attack that Wario's never used in his games (which I'm fully aware is not true), etc.

    • @soulplayrt463

Welp Completely disagree, I love well thought out extra moves which let you mix and match playstyles

    • @Delzethin
      @Delzethin  4 года назад +7

      1. Honestly, the next Smash game will damn near have to be at least a soft reboot just because there's no way a roster this size could be maintained. I'd be up for a few moveset reworks here and there, though Sakurai seems to be wary of doing it.
      2. Complicated situations, those are. If you change Ganondorf too much then you risk alienating fans of his current moveset and fighting style (and sticking into Black Shadow for "representation" has its own issues). Wario's more a victim of how differently he was portrayed in the West up until Warioware--his personality's been pretty consistent in Japan, but American and European markets used to downplay the grosser side of him and emphasize his greed and antagonistic nature more. Though Wario did get his shoulder bash back in Ultimate, at least, and it honestly makes way more sense as his dash attack than it ever did as his forward smash in Brawl.
Replacing stuff entirely would be a tricky process since taking out the current references and replacing them with others would just risk alienating different fans. Takes a careful touch to handle that.
I am unsure what to think of Sonic.

    • @soulplayrt463
      @soulplayrt463 4 года назад

Honestly, I kinda hope Nintendo goes Mario maker mode but Smash Bros for the next game, it would be awesome to have a filtration graphics based system for these characters, and if they built in a really good attempt at an indepth character creator, I can see that working very well and pulling in far more then previous smash games, instead of stand alone new characters, the DLC would be spacific moves to make and add to your own, if Nintendo actually spent time balancing move Combonations with less characters and had a new age or retro sprite based filter option, it would add so much and it could also lead into being able to make your own adventure mode, that would be amazing and I find it hard to find other ways to have people buy the new smash with less characters

    • @soulplayrt463
      @soulplayrt463 4 года назад

I could see a balancing possibility being using a set of only certain moves, but they are much more varied, one pre set could be the KINGS custom Moves, it could include various moves from all of the king's in previous games and would be a heavy, this way it limits the brokeness while still retaining creativity, do you want a blunderbuss or fire bolt as a neutral B, One long Dedede Jump with heavy dammage or something with less dammage but more controllable like the K Rool Copter, I can see this working incredibly well even if Nintendo had only 8 Character Types to start with BRO, PRINCESS, KING, RETRO ECT

    • @soulplayrt463
      @soulplayrt463 4 года назад

If Nintendo did this, as a form of more in-depth Mii Fighter like character creator, you could esentally build any of the previous characters move sets or update them, it would solve alot of contreversey and be easier to implement if they actually focus on more unique move sets that pair with eachother well and balancing over character roster size, just in my opinion every veteran characters move set deserves to be updated to match their potential and feel more their own

For characters I'd like to see, maybe you could do some more echoes and their original counterparts. Peach and Daisy, and Simon and Richter especially.
Some moves I would suggest would be...
-- Give Simon the dagger subweapon for his alt-side special (I know he technically has it for the up-special, shush), while Richter would get the Rebound Stone. They're both weapons from their respective Castlevania games, and they could do wonders in differentiating the vampire killers' playstyles, where Simon would be more no-nonsense and Richter would be all about style.
Also, apparently Richter has an ability called... "Item Crash"? Which allows him to make use of a super-powered version of one of his sub-weapons at the cost of some hearts. That'd be an interesting alt-down, I think. Sacrificing one of your tools to temporarily power up one of your remaining options.
-- Give Bowser his old side-special move from Melee for his alt-side special. I don't think this really needs any deep reasoning, I just think it'd be cool.
His alt-neutral could either be shooting out a ball of fire for more range at the cost of less pressure up close, or maybe throwing hammers for some anti-air pressure! I always thought it was weird how Bowser used to throw hammers and just, doesn't anymore. It's a shame, honestly.
-- Luigi could have the Thunderhand from Superstar Saga for his alt-neutral. (Honestly if you ask me, it should be the default, but I'll take what I can get.)
His alt-down could involve the Poltergust, maybe. Specifically it could be like FLUDD, where it blows opponents away non-harmfully. Maybe it'd be less range than Fludd in exchange for a more powerful windbox...? And I suppose this would also kind of imply Mario would get Mario Tornado as HIS alt-down.
-- Maybe Wario could even get a slightly-downsized version of his car from Wario Land 4 as his alt-side, gaining raw power and possibly even super-armor while also becoming incredibly predictable?
You could also turn Wario's neutral special into a counter of sorts, where anyone who tries to land a physical attack on him would just end up punching/kicking directly into his throat, halving the damage done to him and returning the other half to the attacker.
For his alt-up special, maybe he could return to his roots as the big bad of Super Mario Land 2, and use the bunny ears!
I have no idea what you could do for his alt-down special. Ground pound? Some kind of burp attack?
-- Young Link could have the Slingshot for his alt-neutral, which would have shorter range, but you'd be able to constantly smack your opponents with your nuts.
Maybe his alt-down could involve the Powder Keg. It'd have plenty of starting lag for both the taking-out and throwing-of the bomb, but it would pack a SERIOUS punch compared to the normal bombs!
His alt-side could be the Nice Boomerang. You could throw out up to 3 Boomerangs at once, but at the cost of them not having any knockback and being slightly weaker overall.
-- Regular Link's alt-up would obviously have to be what everyone THOUGHT it was going to be in the first place; Revali's Gale.
His alt-neutral could probably be bomb arrows, and his Toon counterpart could have ice arrows.
-- You could probably retool King Dedede's Smash 4 Final Smash into his alt-down or something. Just make the bomb blast more reasonable in terms of damage and range, and all that.

Heres my Custom Moveset for Inkling
    Neutral Specials:
    2) Splattershot Pro
My Thoughts: You know, He's Right so this should stay.
    3) AeroSpray
My Thoughts: It's Weapon Is Short range, Less damage, and It's The Quickest To Apply ink on your opponents.
    Side Specials:
    2) Carbon Roller
My Thoughts: Technically, in the Games, It would take 2 to bury but In smash, Its probably the same thing except, your opponents get hit once with half ink and the next Hit (Even after They have half ink on them) Is a sure enough bury but Unfortunatley, it's Bury time is Less depending on damage.
    3) Dynamo Roller
My Thoughts: Just Like Splat roller, But slower and Has Longer Bury time when hit by it.
    Up Specials:
    2) Stealth Jump
My Thoughts: Sure It may be true but apparently, it would take longer to activate it but has the longest height out of every fighter possible.
    3) Quick Super Jump
My Analysis: Same with Standard, But Less Height and can Quickly Activate It than the others.
    Down Specials:
    2) Burst Bomb
My Thoughts: alright but You kinda forgot, The Range on this is short but consumes Less on it's Ink tank
    3) Curling Bomb or Suction Bomb
My Thoughts: Okay you can choose which one on so both of them have More ink consumption on the rest, they both have longer range, and They have the most damage out of all of them But they are different. For Curling Bombs, if you Press the Button While having the Control stick down, your Bomb will be released to Move forward by itself. The Time for this Bomb to explode Is longer but If you hold the button it's range can be shorter. For Suction bombs, It's like i Mentioned before but When the bomb is Stuck to it's Opponents, You cant get it off unless you Reflect it like all the other bombs.
Thats all i can provide hope you give this comment a like!

Ice Climbers custom moves should look like this
Ice Shot's alternative would be called Ice Blast: this alt trades the gimping potential and spammability of Ice Shot with a more traditional straightforward projectile that becomes a better neutral tool. Although it can't be spammed nearly as much it can no longer simply be hit away with any move and be knocked back, it also freezes the opponent slightly earlier due to having more damage but due to the extra end lag it's usually a situational occurrence that can lead to a kill offstage or if somehow hit at pointblank range you could follow up with a kill.
Squall Hammer's alternative would be called Tundra Twister: this alt trades the damage output of Squall Hammer with a better recovery move, it trades the horizontal distance for vertical distance and does half as much damage. This would nerf pretty much all of their squall desync combos as they would do hardly any damage and go less horizontal distance which also makes the matchup against bowser even harder because bowser can now toughguy through it but it would make Sopo slightly more viable by giving him an actual usable recovery option.
Blizzard's alternative would be called Hail Storm: this alt trades the freezing ability of Blizzard for a move that is overall faster and with slightly more range. This removes a lot of combos that require opponents to be frozen but the because Hail Storm is a faster move overall with less startup and ending lag it could be a safer neutral tool while still having kill potential by desyncing Hail Storm on shield to get guaranteed cheerless grabs and due to it not freezing, you could also potentially get easier smash attacks.
Belay's alternative would be called Hammer Launch: this alt trades the recovery distance of Belay for a more powerful move overall. Hammer Launch when synced actually makes Popo the climber that is sent first. Nana first flings Popo off of her hammer and then Popo flies forward with his hammer facing at an upwards diagonal towards the stage. This means that the overall distance is lowered due to the fact that most times if you are too far away from the stage with belay, Nana will but Popo will survive. Even thought Hammer Launch has less recovery distance, when Popo is by himself, it turns his up b from a pitiful discount airdodge to a shield from potential damage. Since Popo is unable to launch himself, he is only capable of just sticking his hammer outwards. The upside to this is that it can be used, similar to pit's down b to block projectiles and damage from an upward diagonal direction in the direction he is facing. Even though Popo is still vulnerable from the sides and the "shield" is only out for about 15 frames this can be quite useful because Hammer Launch with Sopo doesn't actually put him in special fall allowing for an extra recovery option even if it doesn't offer any additional height.

No idea for up-b, but I think the Zoom spell from down-b could be taken out and be given a higher MP cost.

    • @hughmungus99

His alternative down b could have all the spells be less effective but you can press down b and then select which then stores that move so that the next time you press down b you can use that move.
Example would be say if you hit down b and selected hatchet man, Then hatchet man would be displayed above your player icon. You will now use hatchet man the next time you press down b. So now you could do something cool like like nair to jab lock hatchet man for an early kill.

Here's a few ideas for Robin I just came up with:
Neutral Special: Quick Arcthunder (Since there aren’t any other thunder tomes in Awakening other than Mjölnir, the neutral custom special just has a quicker charge time, but it is slightly weaker and can only be charged up to Arcthunder instead of Thoron. I don’t really have many ideas for the neutral special.)
Side Special: Dying Blaze (Unlike Arcfire, where Robin summons a projectile that moves diagonally downwards that erupts into a flame pillar when it hits something, Robin will instead produce a short and powerful stream of fire in front of him, akin to Bowser's Neutral Special. The move deals much more damage than Arcfire, but it can’t go as far and, like in Awakening, has MUCH less durability.)
Up Special: Wind (Serving as a more reliable up special than Elwind, Robin's up special will instead launch him up once with a single blast below him. The recovery is slightly less than Elwind, and there's only one potential hit instead of 2, but, like in Awakening, Wind can be used a lot more than Elwind, meaning you don’t have to worry as much about ensuring you don’t run out of durability when you most need it.)
Down Special: Ruin (Rather than grabbing a foe and draining their HP, Robin's down special will instead produce a large explosion with low damage but high knockback, helping to repeal opponents coming from all directions. This attack doesn’t require a nearby opponent to activate, but it leaves Robin exposed afterwards if a foe hasn’t been knocked away by the explosion.)

    Cloud Custom Special move ideas:
Neutral Special: Meteorian- He jumps a bit off the ground and fires a meteor at a downward angle. Much higher knockback than Blade Bleam, but worse range. Limit: Fires a varrage of meteors all at diffrent angles. They're only slight more powerful each and CAN kill, but not well
Side Special: Focus Thrust- you lunge forward about 7 or so units. Does a moderate amount of damage. Limit: Does as far as you want as long as you hold B and does a lot of horizontal knockback. Neither of which are safe of shield. Sacrifice a great kill, combo, stall and damaging move for a good horizontal recovery.
Up Special: Braver. Cloud jumps in a fixed arch, almost like a taller and wider back slash from Shulk. Just like Shulk, you continue falling until ground or ledge. Much less damage, worse as a recovery, and way worse OOS, but, it has heavy armour, making one of Cloud's biggest weaknesses slightly safer. Limit: arch is bigger (not by much) and the landing hitbox can kill. The heavy armour is just super armour.
Down Special: Linit charge is still limit charge, but Finishing Touch now has no hitbox at all, but the windbox is bigger. The move lifts cloud into the air by mashing B, referencing how it worked in Dissidia. I imagine it would work like Dr. Mario Down B, a bit. A situation move nonetheless but hey, a great kill move turns to a great edgegaurd.

Little Mac idea that actually gives him altered moves
Up B - Phoenix Uppercut: Charged flying uppercut that goes higher the longer you charge. Only hits once but pretty much packs damage(was in Smash 4 but needs new animations and properties). Full charged version has endlag. When used in air, slows falling momentum for a while
Side B - Southpaw Surprise: Dives by dashing below in a certain distance and then jumps while doing a left hand uppercut. Pressing Side B again will make him do a direct uppercut. Less range in air version.
Down B - New York Ice: Same counter but with different animation. This time, he doesn't retract back, but directly a cross that actually does more knockback. The counter frames however are tighter and lasts lesser than usual.
Neut B - Frolick Pounce: Does a dashing jab then does a cross combo, and jumps back when hit. It kills far later than Straight Lunge and has less distance.

    Banjo Alternate Specials Idea:
Neutral: Grenade Egg - In Banjo-Tooie, you could fire the Grenade Egg forward as well as backward. It fires at a much slower rate and travels slowly as well, but can't be picked up like in the Down Special.
Side: Beak Bomb - Beak Bomb is one of the last moves you can learn in the original Banjo Kazooie. It is the only form of attack the duo have while in mid-flight, though obviously this version can be done from the ground. After a long wind-up and a familiar "uh-oh", the duo charge forward, beak first. It lacks the invulnerability of the Wonderwing, and doesn't plow through multiple targets, but it still packs a huge punch. It has double the uses of Wonderwing, and is represented by Red Feathers instead of Gold.
Up: Pack Whack - When Banjo splits up from Kazooie in Tooie, his primary form of attack is the "Pack Whack", where he swings his empty backpack as a weapon. It had a fun property where Banjo could jump out of it again if used midair. This move would function similarly to Donkey Kong's up special, having Banjo helicopter his way up with his Kazooie filled pack. It obviously doesn't have as much vertical height as the Shock Spring Pad, but he can still double jump after the move, and gains a much more direct attack in the Up Special.
Down: Rear Egg (Original) - Normal eggs could be fired backwards much like the Grenade Egg move in the original Banjo-Kazooie. A rapid fire spurt of three eggs can be quickly fired from behind and quickly rack up damage on an enemy unlucky enough to be in the way. The eggs can't be grabbed, but obviously lack the individual punch of the grenade.

The Belmonts would be an interesting split, that I'm honestly surprised didn't happen already. For alternates I am going to be pulling from all available Sub Weapons, but none exclusive to Johnathan Morris Portrait shenanigans.
Neutral- Simon and Richter's Neutral Special would be the Bible, but used in different ways. Simon would throw it out and it would circle in place, even hovering in mid air. For Richter, he would use it the way ALUCARD used the Bible, having it spiral around his body for a short time. Neither would have the kill potential of the Axe, but Simon's would control space better and Richter's would act as a projectile shield/ slight contact damage.
Side- Both Simon and Richter have some interesting options here. Either could have the Knife/ Dagger for a quick spammable projectile about as quick and damaging as Falco's gun. BUT, the kooky options make this fun. Simon could have access to the Javelin instead. This projectile would be launched in a low arc and pierce enemies. Should it get stuck on a wall or platform, the Javelin will act as a weak multi-hit as long as it remains. The Javelin in mid flight is stronger than the multi-hits. For Richter, he could use the Agunia from SotN. This would be a horizontal lightning bolt that could arc up or down vertically to lightly home in on opponents. As long as you are facing the opponent and they do not break the firing line, you can hold the button down for rapid multi-hits that do about as much damage as Fox's blaster.
Down- Here's another obvious one...kinda. Holy Water COULD be replaced with the Wave version for both characters, which would lightly knock back opponents to better get them in VK tipper range, and should have been how RICHTER'S holy water worked, but let's get kooky again. Simon's alt would be the Rebound Stone/ Ricochet Rock. It would be thrown at the ground at an angel and then bounce off the ground at that same angle, continuing to bounce off platforms or walls to change trajectory. This trajectory could be altered in a similar way to the Axe, having a far, standard, and close trajectory. Richter would get the Vibuti from SotN. This scattering of ashes would not have the same initial bottle collision as holy water, would multi-hit faster, but would not trap opponents like Water can (think Piranha Plant's Poison Breath, but on the ground.)
Up- Here's the boring one. This would be the Roc's wing/ Gravity Boots for both Simon AND Richter. Taking this would double their vertical recovery, even be able to be angled slightly horizontally (like Arsen), but would not have a hitbox to damage opponents AND could not be used mid-air if the Belmont still had their Double Jump. However, this would not put them in special fall for a moment, allowing them to tether out of this move, OR do a ballsy Divekick if the situation was right.

    I got a few!
    Mario
    Neutral: Ice Ball
Can freeze opponents at higher percents, but it only bounces once
    Side: Tanooki Tail
Instead of turning the opponent around, it does damage and launches diagonally up and forward
    Up: Spin Jump
Instead of being a multi-hit that puts you into freefall, you get to bounce on opponents to spike them and gain more height (but the initial jump doesnt spike)
    Down: Turbo F.L.U.D.D.
Instead of pushing opponents away, you dash forward (if you can think of anything better, lemme know)
    Kirby
    Neutral: Throw
You still s u c c, but you grab the opponent instead of eating them
    Side: Parasol
Instead of being a strong chargeable swing, its a reflector
    Up: Hi-Jump
You go up a lot farther, but then you go into freefall
    Down: Volcano (Fire+Rock)
You shoot rocks in any direction
If you got any ideas for better alts, lemme know!

joker’s custom moves could be based around different personas. it would just change arsene to a different persona, maybe thanatos or izanagi, and changing curse damage to almighty or electric damage. it would be a simple alternative move but it would change joker’s moveset visually to where he’d look like a completely different character. thanatos would be a nice reference to persona 3, and izanagi would be a nice reference to persona 4. and for rebel’s guard, it could change his persona summoning to an evoker or tarot card. it would even canonically fit joker’s wildcard ability. i think that it could’ve been really cool to see custom moves in ultimate, and it’s a shame we didn’t see them.

  • @Toastman30K
    @Toastman30K 4 года назад +1

I'm really loving these ideas, Some inkling ideas you suggested even overlap with an octoling echo fighter i was writing, So i might give one big idea for my main: Joker
First, his Specials will be more changed with a persona then they would without one, the reason I'm referring to it as "a Persona" and not Arsene is my idea that changing side special changes joker's Persona altogether, All the other persona spells referenced Arsene can;t even learn without skill cards and his attack boosts are really just him gesturing his arms while making Joker's up-tilt have electricity, the exception being aerials and His up-B, in which he's explicitly stomping, using his wings and such but we can easily improvise. Therefore them changing with side special and being animated to fit the Hitboxs can work easily
The First idea for an alternate Persona is Jack frost, the Persona Series mascot and he would change side-B to Bufu and bufudyne, the Later is similar to eiha but icy and deals slightly more damage but no Posion effect, instead the hitstun for the attack is longer as if freezing the opponent and allows for Joker to swoop in for a combo. with a filled rebellion guage, He uses Bufudyne, this Spell creates a projectile that upon hit has a crackling effect to do multiple hits on opponents, visualized by making ice crystals that burst, allowing for a greater extended hitstun so joker can swoop in. Jack Frost himself attacks mostly with ice effects, down air has him create an ice block to drop and his replacement for "wings of rebellion" has him blast himself with an ice beam, like Iron mans thrusters just to give joker that push upwards for the move.
The next idea i have is my personal favourite: Fortuna, her humanoid form and use of scarves can easily replicate Arsene's hitboxs and use of wind spells can help fill in Up-B's animations, Her added side specials are Garu and Garudyne, Garu flies a bit straighter than the other side-special spells and doesnt stop travelling until it hits a wall, it bypasses projectiles and once it encounters an enemy, does multi-hit damage like metal blade while bypassing through them, allowing joker to squeeze past projectile walls of fighters and get an opening. Garudyne flies a bit between Garu and Eiha's arcs, allowing it to hit further and contains the projectile passing of Garu. Upon attack with an enemy, it creates a small tornado to hit them multiple times before throwing them upwards, similar to hero's up special. this again allows for joker to get an opening against zoners but can also set them up for big combos, even if the damage doesn't compare to eigaon's poison.

If I were to choose Joker's specials, I would go with
Down Shot: Joker trades out speed and range for the ability to trip with his gun, for Arsene's version, it would shoot three shots and would be easier to trip.
Maeiha: Would have a bigger hitbox, but more startup, and its range would be slightly reduced. Its Arsene version would Maeigoan, which would have a bigger hitbox and its explosion range would be greatly increased, with a slight curse damage increase, but the start up and end lag would be greatly increased.
Ambush: Joker would fly up about as high as Lucario low aura Extreme Speed, but if he hits someone on the way up, he jumps on them and leaps off. The Arsene version is Wings of Freedom, where he flies up faster and higher, but the invincibility is removed.
Rebel's Ailment: If Joker gets hit while he is holding Rebel's Ailment, he debuffs the enemy, weither its weakening their attack or defense or speed, the move doesnt reduce the damage taken, but Arsene will come out quicker. Arsene's version would Megadiolan, where he blows up the area in front of him doing mass damage, but has low speed.

    Krool's kustoms:
Up special 2: A longer lasting, slower moving version of up special. Krool has free control over which direction he flies but moves slower than default up special.
Side special 2: Krool throws his crown but instead of coming back, it will keep flying straight forward. After throwing, Krool will have to wait 5 seconds. This crown will have more knockback and travel speed.
Down special 2: A different kind of counter that stays active longer when holding the input. If an enemy touches his belly they get pushed back. Similar to the bumper item. Projectiles are not reflected and instead damage his belly armor.
Neutral special 2: lose the ability to shoot a cannonball but the suck range is moderately increased and the launch distance is higher, giving Krool a command grab suck like kirby that can kill. Projectiles are sucked in and shot out again.

Custom Specials had the capability to be incredible. Mario and Mega Man are *perfect* examples of this. You gave the example of Mario - well, what if his customs were, say... a hammer toss (of the Hammer Bros.) and an Ice attack (from the Ice Flower,) or perhaps his Up-B's could have been his normal, Bee Mario from Galaxy and the Wing Cap from SM64. In terms of Mega Man, allow me to point you to a total of 11 mainline games, as well as Megaman and Bass, Megaman V, and a *vast* number of other items which would suit, all in individual ways! For instance, look at his Up-B - maybe one of them could be the Jet Adaptor from MM6, and another the Thunder Claw from MM8! The thing is, these sorts of moves may not exist for all characters in the roster (such as, perhaps, Ice Climbers and such) but imagine the possibilities - especially with the potential of characters like Joker (whom could, perhaps, even have *different Persona* for different moves) and such? An example a friend suggested to me was how the fighting characters (Ryu, Ken & Terry) could potentially have the special moves of other characters in their games, in order to act as a sort of reference to them.

Better kirby stuff ideas than hurr durr kick:
Neutral special 2 could be fire breath or ice breath, both serve the same purpose
Neutral special 3 could be something that charges, such as fighter's force blasts or maybe a mike charge?
Side special 2 could be some cutters (and charged cutters for more damage)
Side special 3 could be ninja's stealth slash, or wheel's speed burst
Down special 2 could be beam's barrage attack, and possibly be angled after the original input (and you get some upward momentum the first time you use it in the air)
Down special 3 could be bandage or yoyo spin, giving some leeway when coming down, no startup lag and some extra sideways movement speed
Up special 2 could be like fly but going directly up, possibly being able to be angled slightly
Up special 3 could be one of the many upward moves from kirby, such as the skyward slash, esp teleport, or the water spit ability

    for link i'd have
neutral b: duplex bow - fires two bomb arrows which travel in a slow arcing motion, where it deals more damage and sends the opponent diagonally upwards instead of a straight trajectory; however, it can't be charged nor can arrows be picked up
side b: gale boomerang - the wind strength is dependent on the opponents damage and the initial attack also has a wind hitbox which can send opponents away, but it doesnt have any hitboxes coming back to link, deals significantly less damage, and has less travel distance
up b: quick spin - similarly to melee, the hit is more of a semi spike, comes out quicker, deals more damage and has a bigger hitbox; however, it can't be charged, recovery is worse, and shield damage is worse
down b: rectangular bomb - deals more damage from both the physical hit and detonation; but the explosion range is smaller and throwing/attacking the bomb makes it travel less due to its shape

Extra ideas for inkling alt specials
Neutral b: we have the normal splattershot, you gave the idea on pro, so what about splattershot jr. this will deal less damage, have less range, but be much more ink efficient. Just like pro, it changes the model on inkling
Side b: since flingza roller is about its vertical flicks, and big swig just came out in splatoon 3, the only option really is dynamo roller. This is a slower roller, more ink hungry, and comes out slower, but deals much more damage and will burry you for even longer. And yes, this replaces the splat roller model
Up b: taking the other super jump unique ability that isn’t quick super jump, drop roller. It doesn’t go as high as super jump and like your stealth jump, it doesn’t have a hit box. However by holding left or right, you will roll in that direction. This is meant to sacrifice recovery for landing mix ups
Down b: there’s one more iconic bomb to look at that works similarly to splat and burst bomb, suction bomb. It sticks onto a surface and then explodes after a while. This deals more damage and paints opponents more, but doesn’t explode on impact, won’t explode mid air off stage. And needs more ink to use

a stronger but riskier alternative to inkling's moves:
    -neutral B Luna Blaster:
Instead of shooting a torrent of ink, it fires a small explosion, which increases in knockback and ink in the enemy, as a Blaster would. also loses the ability to be angled, for reasons of valance.
that would also change the use of moves such as Jab, changing from being a multi Hit jab to a 3 hit jab, with a stronger knockback and endlag as well as the Forward Throw increasing its knockback notoriously
    -Side B Dynamo Roller:
Lose the ability to move with the roller, staying completely still, but with a huge startlag, a powerful swing can be as strong as Byleth's Down B, with a Shield Break.
also spreading some ink as a weak proyectile in a short range, while covering the ground as the normal roller would do
    -Up B Splash Down:
Even tho it is a special weapon, it could function as a more aggressive version of the Super Jump, losing height as a recovery, but gaining a stronger and faster fall that when landing on a surface generates an ink explosion increasing knockback, to keep oponents at distance, with a huge endlag and spike potential if it is realized in the air just like King dedede's
    -Down B Curling Bomb:
as in splatoon 2, it can only move on the ground. if you just tap the command, the bomb will reach a great distance before exploding, however the longer you hold the button the smaller the distance it travels, varying its knockback according to the distance it has traveled
it traveled a great distance: the radius and power of the explosion decreases
it traveled a small distance: it increases the radius and the power of the explosion

Alright as a prideful Dedede main I've got ideas to re imagine Dedede's current specials myself. I'm not sure how the hell my ramblings will turn out but here it goes anyway.
    Inhale becomes sliding inhale
In certain boss fights the great king slides when he inhales allowing him to surprise attack players who aren't prepared. Putting this into smash would be a simple task of allowing Dedede to slow move along while inhaling. And by slow I mean slow as in making jet hammer look like sonic slow. This would also lose the ability to inhale projectiles and spit them back out returning his old smash 4 inhale's properties.
    Gordo toss becomes Bomb toss
Gordo toss is great and all but what if the great king lobbed bombs instead? Well it would allow for the move to come out faster and go further than gordo toss. But it would lose the ability to bounce instead exploding on impact with any surface making it a worse tool for edge guarding and the bomb can explode still since it is a bomb.
Super Dedede jump becomes I don't go a name for it but it is still super Dedede Jump
This Dedede jump on paper seems weaker because it won't bury, won't have super armor and won't do as much damage. But in practice it would Give Dedede something much more powerful, An out of shield up special coming out much faster and with a damaging hitbox while rising as well. When landing there will be no stars but instead a shockwave which will do more damage and go further but has a harder time poking shields
    Jet hammer Becomes Shockwave hammer
Like all others this is a reference to a standard Dedede trick. While his forward smash somewhat does this his new jet hammer acts like normal at first but has a few new tricks. When the hammer is released Dedede slams it into the ground launching a shockwave across the ground similar to terry's neutral special. when fulled charged this shockwave is huge and only barely hits battlefield platforms. The hammer also comes out faster for the smaller shockwave but takes longer to charge the bigger shockwave. This hammer also isn't as strong as his normal jet hammer as it doesn't break shields, does less damage and knockback and has slightly weaker armor. This gives Dedede another projectile but leaves him without his best shield breaking tool and forward smash replacement.
So these where my ideas and they probably aren't balanced well but who cares I'm the D3 main that threw these out so umm yeah.

Joker alt specials featuring more Personas!
Neutral special - Seth One-Hit Kill: shoots a large, slow projectile akin to a full Charge Shot. Deals damage with three autolinking multi-hits before a final launcher hitbox. Insane start lag and high end lag. Cannot be used to jump or dodge. (I was gonna have this be Mara One-Shot Kill but Smash is a game for good boys and girls :3)
Side special - Agathion Eiha: shoots the Eiha projectile at a steeper angle (sacrificing range), bursting on contact with anything- like Arsene Eihagon but smaller. Deals moderate damage and knockback instantly (no curse effect).
Up special - Orobas Sukukaja: sparkly green Firefox, enough said. (Not super accurate to source, but hey, neither are either of Joker’s existing recoveries.)
Down special - Bishamonten Tetrakarn: gives base Joker access to his Tetrakarn counter. Does not fill meter when countering a move- he’ll have to fill it by taking damage and waiting. Arsene still triggers like normal when it’s full, and Joker’s specials swap to Arsene specials while he’s active.

"Abilities from their home game that didn't make it into smash"
"Ike's Ragnell can shoot blue flames that can hit 2 spaces away"
So, you're just gonna forget that he can charge eruption to, well, shoot blue flames that can hit farther away?

    • @Strongbadhomestar1

Except that's more of a gimmick than a projectile. If anything, the pillars of flame should've been added to Roy, because he actually can create a pillar of flame to attack from a distance in his game. Ike's would be more like Cloud's blade beam.

@@Strongbadhomestar1 I still disagree. He straight up claimed that a move like charged eruption wasn't in his moveset. It doesn't matter what the function is, because I do agree it's not a classic projectile like link's boomerang. My issue is with how he falsely claimed something wasn't in his move set, and didn't provide context (if he said Ragnell's ability is underused, or not utilized in a more prevalent or viable way I can agree) but he straight up described eruption and said it wasn't in his move set. Period. (He quite literally used "Shoot a wave of blue flames" to describe the ability)

I always think that custom moves are not a bad idea, only dont make easy to get it and very complex to make them balanced.
I like in Samus return of the Ice Missile only with ice Propertie and less knokback.
Dark Samus btw can shoot a Phazom missile that are less powerful but make a extra damage like Joker side B for a little time (like a corruption)
Down B in Samus have to be a mini plasma bomb use it in the Metroid prime saga, the bomb dont fall stay in the place and explode later.
In Dark Samus i would like to be a Dash Ball attack (she use it in a Battle) that can be look that sonic.. or maybe make her drop a Phazom mine that not make much damage and only can be 1 in battle.
UP can maybe be in Samus a doble mini screw attack less power but can be use 2 times in air (like one custom move from Peach) making reference that screw attack are originaly a multi jump attack in Metriod games.
With Dark Samus i always prefer that she use a move like Lucario Up B, she can fly, she never use a Screw attack in games..
In the neutral special Samus can have a rapid fire that can only be charge in place like other player with arrows but is no charged make a less powerfull but more speed mini charge shoot.
With Dark Samus can use the close shoot that Samus have in one custom Move in Smash 4

    Idea for Snake:
    Neutral Special: Stun Grenade
Stuns the opponent similar to ZSS's stun gun, but does less damage. Maybe mess with the blast radius and timer.
    Side Special: Stinger Missile
Moves faster and homes in on opponents, but cannot be controlled. Make it more usable in general instead of just edge guarding.
Up Special: Slider (flying things from MGS4)
Moves much faster with a bigger hitbox, but has more startup and no armor. Not sure what else to do with this since Metal Gear is a fairly ground based series.
    Down Special: Landmine
His down smash from Brawl. Explodes automatically or when triggered, cannot be used in the air or stuck to opponents, basically Isabelle's rocket but make it suck less.

    Samus
B: plasma beam- fast, unchargable railgun with a fire effect
Side-B: ice missiles- missiles but ice and less damage/ knockback
Up-B: Space Jump- can be used three times, doesn’t put you in special fall, and no hit box
Down-B: Power Bomb- can only place one, makes a large explosion on a timer

Honestly a character I think could be really sick with customs would be snake. I don’t know a ton about metal gear but what if his side-b was a gun, similar to falcos, nuetral b could be like one rally big grenade with a bit more startup, but a much bigger explosion that does more damage. Not really sure about the others, I would have to look into some more lore for those.
