  • The road up to Elk Mountain is one of New Mexico's highest roads in the state peaking out at an elevation above 11,000ft. The drive up offers some stunning views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains but on this particular day, the rain did not let up blocking out the views from the summit.

    Snow on the ground anywhere in New Mexico in July is a head scratcher for me - lol
    16:50 - Why be nice? Because it's just the right thing to do. I've been accused of being "too" friendly and I don't understand that mentality. Why wouldn't we want to be friendly? Thanx for being you Ruben!
    Excellent video buddy! Thanx for sharin'!

      I was scratching my head on this one also lol, but I guess when you above 11,000ft anything is possible. I've camped in this same area near 12,400ft and there still be snow in July and the nights were in the 30s. Its a high elevation thing. Yeah man, I have no idea why were friendly. Sometimes it just feels wrong haha. But that is just who we are, you know? I appreciate it bud. I'll most likely head up this way again and find a slot in-between hunting season without messing up peoples hunt. So maybe October or late September. I'll have to look at the hunting calendar. I want a better look with no fog. I have never been to this area until that day.

    Nice area to Ride, Looks like a great place to hunt Elk. Lots of fog at the top , no epic views from the top, the fog just adds to the ambiance. This Ride reminds me of riding in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains here in Alberta . only thing probably is we would be on the watch for Grizzly Bears,and the Elk. Thanks again for another Banger of a video.

      Dude this is a sweet place to hunt Elk. Hunting season starts next month in New Mexico for Elk. The fog was cool to be in. I didn't mind not having the views for the exchange of the ambiance. Its cool you talk about the Rocky Mountains, New Mexico is the end of the mountain chain that stretches up to Canada. Man I couldn't imagine what it would be like to have grizzly bears. On this mountain the biggest predator we have to worry about is cougars which are frequently spotted here hunting Elk. Thanks for watching bud. Take care up there. I would love to explore Canada and will one day you can bet on that.

I know you have a Colorado video up there at Taylor Park or something like this. I plan to hit Colorado by next year and explore. It was to bad the fog kept us from seeing around. It just means when I head back up there there is a whole new level of excitement to see what I couldn't see on that day. Thanks for watching buddy.

    Hello there good sir! I see you're hitting me with the incredible views right off the bat in this video, haha. You're doing life right for sure. Geez, looks like the clouds overtook you up there. I really like the rocky terrain up at antenna array tower area. Elk call is such an eerie thing. We don't have alot of them in particular area, so you never really hear it. There's a wild herd over in the Clam Lake area. I should look up and see if there are any good spots out there to take a peak of a couple. Good to meet Mr. One Man's Odessey as well.
    So my sister has been looking around to maybe camp that way for the winter. You and I talked about that already. She's kind of concerned that it might actually be too cold around there to realistically go all winter compared to like in AZ. What temps do you typically run where you live? She's kind of talking about going out to the Outer Banks for at least part of the winter. Apparently it stays fairly comfortable (in the 50's I think she said) pretty much all year. Idk. The other advantage she has out that way is that my family has a place in the NC mountains. So she could always bail out and head for there if she wants.
    Anyway Ruben, I enjoyed your video. It's always a pleasure hanging out with you my friend. I'll talk to you later.

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Hey there man! The views early on were awesome until the clouds took over lol. But being in the fog like this was super cool as well. It awesome to experience opposite climates. Where I live it is hot in Summer, then you come up here and it was in the 40s and Windchill in the 30s. That is so crazy for being a July day. I love the rocks also, it just adds to the landscape.
      I think that would be cool if you were to go and see if you could spot some Elk. New Mexico has a massive heard that can be found throughout most of the state. We are a world premier state for hunting them and we attract outfitters from all over hoping for a tag to be filled.
      New Mexico is a dramatic state in the winter. Where I live temps are about 25 degrees in the morning and highs in the 40s or 50s. Farther south is even warmer because it is more desert. But if you head north, lows can range from below zero to maybe the 30s for highs. It is still probably not as cold as where you live. But if your looking to get away from all that I think AZ would be the preferred way of having a winter escape from your area. I would still recommend at least a few nights in New Mexico through. Will she have a camper or an RV?
      Thanks for watching bud. Take care and I appreciate your support and friendship.

    Finally getting watch this video! You did a great job with the footage you had, and I think the way that you set the stage for "it could get better, or it could get worse" was great considering it did get worse! You got some great shots of the surrounding scenery, and watching your video transported me back to the chilly, damp environment. It was a great honor and a lot of fun finally getting to do a trip with you, even if it was just a half-day trail ride; I look forward to doing it again!
    Also, I should mention that Elk Mountain is actually featured prominently in the movie Missing 411: The Hunted, which is on Amazon Prime and I think Hulu. It's unfortunate that it is, given that it's a documentary about missing people, but about a third of the movie is about Elk Mountain and the Pecos Wilderness.

      What an incredible day we had. It was worth every bit of time we had up there. I agree, what an honor to have a video with you and I on a trip. We’ll have to make a trip happen again.
      I am glad you bring up the 411 show. I have actually watched it and the stories told about the area are interesting and still leave me with the question of, what happened. I read somewhere that the older folks who live in the area believe there is a portal that opens and closes. So it’s believed he went through the portal. It’s bizarre nonetheless. Thanks again for an awesome day!

    great video, do you know if this area burned in this years fire?

      I think this area survived the fire although there might be some spots where the fire did burn a little since the boundary was in this area where they made a containment line.

      Hey there! You are right. This is the same location where the hunter went missing and sadly, never located either. There are a lot of mysteries behind this location on people missing or dying. I plan on getting back up here to do some camping and talk a little bit about it in my next video.
      I appreciate you watching and commenting. Take care my friend.

      Adventuring alone is fun and risky. I love camping solo and adventuring, but at the same time I do miss the company of friends. I hope you get out and do a solo man. It is fun.

    Where is parking to leave a vehicle and take off on atv near this trail?

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  2 года назад

      I staged more less in this area at these coordinates: 35.75477, -105.67043
      But there is plenty of parking within the first mile all on the left side of the road. From there you can ride up.
