It's also jarring when violence doesn't play out like you think it will. Betty gets hit multiple times with the axe, and yet she still goes after Candy as if it's just a minor scratch or something. The human brain in a high-stress environment can make the body endure quite a bit before collapsing. Assuming we take Candy's testimony as truth, Betty might've lived if she had just stayed down after the first hit.

@@shelleyesler5245 Okay, all you've said is the officers on scene "believe" it happened differently than what Candy claims. But, neither they nor you KNOW for sure if that's the truth or not. Last time I checked, the state has to prove "beyond a reasonable doubt" that a suspect committed an alleged crime. The defendant does not have to prove innocence. Maybe it's true that Candy murdered Betty in cold blood, but no one can demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt that she did. So therefore she walked. I know the justice system is not perfect, but I do believe this 'reasonable doubt' principle is crucial for preserving liberty, even if public opinion might disagrees with the verdict.

Okay. As someone with trauma from cptsd and child abuse. As someone who knows how TRAUMA and violence THIS bad can make a person just.... break. Candy, if telling the truth, her body language WHOLSY represents and disalays that of fear and FIGHT in the fight or flight response the human brain tends to induce in these extremely scary life or death situations. Betty KEPT MOVING after being struck in the HEAD with an AXE. (If candy is truthful) so idk about you BUT THATS USUALLY NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. And after being attacked by betty i CANNOT imagine that all candy thought was. LIVE LIVE LIVE KILL HER IF IT MEANS my survival. Thats FIGHT in the Fight or Flight response for ya. Its not FUN. @stitchedmouthgirl 11 месяцев назад +118

Sadly we don’t know what really happened. We can speculate that Betty did corner Candy and confront her with an axe and attack her, like how Candy says. But we should also consider that Candy was angry that Betty’s husband ended the affair because of Betty, and that she decided to confront her in her house and found the axe and attacked Betty with it. But either way, Candy is still guilty of murder. It couldn’t of been self defence due to the brutality of Betty’s death. Candy should of been charged with at least second degree murder and served the full sentence.
Other women who have down less have gotten years in prison. Sally McNeil for one, unintentionally murdered her husband (you can debate if it was self defence, but it’s very clear Sally didn’t intend on killing her husband that day). She served more than 20 years in prison. This was after her husband physically abused Sally and her children and cheated on her repeatedly. She spent the day looking for him, unable to find him but when he returned home drunk Sally obviously feared for her own and her children’s lives. He had been abusive before and it ended with Sally killing him out of fear.
Candy can’t prove she feared for her life, considering she went to Betty’s home after having an affair with her husband. But Sally could of easily proved she feared for her life (plus her children’s since they were in the home at the time and her husband had attacked them before). Candy attacked Betty with an axe more than 40 times in Betty’s own home. Sally shot her husband only twice after he came to her home drunk and pumped full of steroids, he also had just been cheating on Sally all day so an argument was most definitely going to ensue. And yet, Sally did 25 years in prison and Candy didn’t even do one. Candy ran home, cleaned up and denied knowing anything at first. Sally, immediately after murdering her husband Ray, asked her neighbour to look after her gun and call the police and tell them that she had murdered her husband. She was co operative with police when they arrived and admitted to being the one who shot her husband (although it maybe important to note that despite being co operative after killing her husband, Sally had a history of not being co operative with police). After murdering people, Candy went on to become a licensed therapist after murdering Betty and Sally only just got out of prison.
Clearly America picks and choses which women who commit murder goes to prison, and it’s not based on if it was self defence or not. It’s based on who is well liked or not. Candy was very well liked in her town and fairly wealthy (compared to Betty who was rather unpopular just for being new to the town) and Sally was very disliked because she was a female bodybuilder and often stood up for herself when being insulted and also she was born into a poor family and arguably poor in her adult life too.
Also note these two cases only happened years apart. Candy murdered Betty in 1980, Sally murdered Ray in 1994.

      @@nikkilove4584The hell does that mean?
She hacked a woman to death with said woman's baby in the next room (who probably heard the whole thing) and then went to CHURCH!
      That is, indeed, psychopath shit.
And the murder is just the end result of an affair that CANDY HERSELF SOUGHT AFTER.
Candy Montgomery is a murderer, and an adulterer and she is going to HELL.

How could someone 🪓 a person so many times and walk away on self defense defense.

I understand the whole thing about Candy being triggered by this traumatic situation on top of her childhood trauma, which all led to the dissociation. But what I wish somebody would do is theorize why Betty was saying these things that didn't make much sense. It's like she was having an extreme anxiety/paranoia attack, some type of bipolar episode, or nervous breakdown when she keeps insisting that Candy "can't have" Allan in spite of the fact that it's pretty clear that Candy isn't interested. Furthermore, I'll never understand why she said that she never wanted to see Candy and then said she could keep watching her daughter, Alisa, for a while longer just to avoid seeing Candy. That just doesn't make any sense. If she didn't trust Candy with her husband, why would she trust her with her daughter? I can understand her being upset over Allan cheating on her and him and Candy lying to her. But it just doesn't make any sense to escalate from being hurt/resentful to wanting to kill someone. When Don Crowder later described Betty's words as "odd" and "perfunctory," I would say, "Understatement of the goddamn century." Clearly, both of these women needed therapy for different reasons, given that Candy had repressed her anger and Betty kept acting out and being too abrasive with people. And Allan needed therapy for being so weak-willed, indecisive, inconsiderate, and dishonest. He is downright perplexing. Although Pat is probably the nicest person in this whole thing, he also needed some therapy because he was way too forgiving with Candy after he discovered her past affair. I can understand him standing by her after the killing due the psychological problems involved, but blaming himself for that affair was being too hard on himself.
