    From where the H+ ions are coming inside the kcl solution, as kcl solution doesn't produce h+ ions?

    I really don't understand why lots of people in the US like to use wrong terms for certain things. There is no such thing as "8 mV of charge". Volts are units of (electrical) tension, not charge. Coulombs are units of charge.
    I reckon this inconsistency and errors make a mess for people who are trying to get a grip of these things.
    Also, this is a blackbox explanation of how pH meters work and it simply does not suffice even highschool levels.

      I agree! The explanation of the electrical part is largely incorrect. Apart from "the 8mV of charge", also having a current run in a closed loop through the same wire away from and back to the microcontroller is nonsensical.

      Lajos and Wei Ni Hao, This video was meant for individuals who need a basic understanding of how this instrument works. I could of taken it up a whole bunch of levels but that would defeat the purpose. There is slang and mis-used words on all levels of everything in life. The idea was to introduce the basic operation with words people are somewhat familiar with. In reality its a electrical signal that if measured for quality control we could use a Volt meter and get that charge. Plus, I have an equation that allows the offset to be identified and the mV value is used in that equation. Either way, thank you for your input. I am sure you are correct in the use of the word.

    You can make your own ph pen probe storage solution (3 molar KCL) with ph 4 buffer solution + potassium chloride.
    Mix 1g potassium chloride (KCL) per 100ml ph buffer 4 solution to make 3 molar kcl storage solution. The gel dries out quickly if left in open air or is stored in reverse osmosis or tap water leeches potassium chloride ions as the probe tries to make equilibrium. Storing the probe submerged in 3 molar kcl storage solution is best for years of life out of the ph pen. Change the solution the probe is stored in every 2-3 months.

      1g of KCl per 100mL does not give you 3M KCl solution.

    so the ph value which i get is due the potential difference between the mesuring electrode and the reference electrode . another questiin is that what is the role of temp sensor in the ph meter .? and is it the aglc which transmit back the mv signal ?

    I'm confused, where is the kcl that leaked into the solution getting it's electrical potential?

      It makes like an electrical bond with the electrons that are available from K+ Cl- leaked, just like a wire conducts electricity (available electrons), and the voltage generated in mV from the sensor glass electrode (gel layer)

    Sir how can we determine pka of unknown solution using graph?
    I'm confused with equivalent and half equivalent point. I'm not understanding which point we have to select for correct pKa value.

    in minute 1:45 it says A high number of PH represents an acidic solution and a low number is a basic solution which is wrong, it is backwards right?

      It's not the value of the pH that's talked about, it's the number of ions H+ in the solution. A acidic solution will have a lot of H+, translated into a low pH

    i am confused we have filled 3 molar KCL hen from where hydrogen ion came inside .second some one says H ion get penetrate inside glass electrode through membrane and reaction takes place inside kcl get converted in to HCL and some one says it is due to gradiant formed between hydrogen ion

      Correct, this is a common problem depending on how often its used. I will give you a real world example: I had a pH electrode for a titration system that has a 3.5M KCl solution on the inside of the electrode (liquid wire). We stored the pH electrode when not in use in a solution that was something different. For your situation lets say HCL. Now in nature the laws of anything is that 'High concentration of anything will bleed into a Low concentration of anything' until there is an equilibrium that has been established. So when we store it in 4.0 M HCL the the 4.0 M HCL will bleed into the glass tube through the 'junction' to make it equal on both sides of the glass. Also, the 3.5M KCl will leak out of the glass tube via the 'junction' at the same time the HCl is moving in the opposite direction. Once you have an equilibrium on both sides everyone is happy. The major problem here is that the instrument was not designed to have HCl as a "liquid wire' and it messes up the specs. If you dont have a refillable 'ph electrode' you have to throw it away and get a new one. IF you have a refillable pH electrode you can empty it, rinse it with DI water and refill with your 3.5M KCl.

      If you are using this in a solution that is high in H+ there is a chance that over time it can bleed back into the electrode through an 'osmosis' type of fluid movement. Thus offsetting the balance of the internal KCl (3.5M concentration). Typically everyone should put it in there budget to either get a (1) refillable electrode, which can be easily cleaned out over time and last longer or (2) replace your pH electrode 1x yr. Its about a $130 cost that is well worth it. Just think about what it is your trying to produce and what that is worth to you. If you dont spend the $130 to keep it on point, should you even be doing what your doing? Please read response below as well.

      It flows out at a rate of 14 microliters per hour. It's such an insignificant amount it will likely never run the electrolyte out unless used constantly for a very long time.

      Jesus is correct. You will most likely run into other issues before that happens.
      It will run out quicker if you are not storing it correctly. If you are not using a storage solution, then it will leak out until it reaches an equilibrium on on the outside of your storage cap vs the inside of the probe sensor. Reminder: the electrolyte is a 3.5M KCl and you need to ask yourself what the concentration of KCl is in the tap water you may be storing it in. Until it reaches 3.5M KCl on both sides it will leak. Also, anyone using RO water will cause the reference H+ on the inside to migrate out of the inside of your pH electrode. I have seen this happen in less than 24hrs. Its not a big deal if you can refill the electrode with a new 3.5M KCl but you would need a refillable electrode for that. :-)

      The filling solution in an Ion - Selective solution is a fluid that is hyper sensitive with reacting per your target ion. it serves as a type of reference point for a reading. an F-ion electrode is a particular type (fluoride) . This type of electrode is very sensitive and can be hard to work with depending on how you are using it. Be sure to store it correctly after use and keep it clean. The reaction tips should be replaced regularly. The filling solution will react and/or the reacting Fluoride will drop out of solution due to the evaporation of the liquid that is the Filling Solution. Once that happens your fill solution is no longer in spec of the working ISE. Its better to be safe than sorry, so empty it after use and refill it before use.
