But then you add packages like active safety, auto steer, glass roof, wireless charing etc, the total comes down to $57,400 for polestar 2 (no federal rebate). Model 3 SR has all that as standard features and only costs $35,400 after federal rebate. As a 2022 Tesla Model Y owner who test drove a Polestar 2 I certainly agree with all your observations. My second car is a 2023 BMW i4 edrive40 which is fun to drive with rear wheel drive, and quick acceleration and classic BMW handling. And, it has a classic sun roof with all the adjustments. I see you have reviewed ICE BMWs, but i didnt see a review of the i4. Would love to see you do that one!

Thanks Gjeebs for this informative video. You are doing great as an auto reviewer. Good job. :) You weigh the pros and cons of each car and provide us with an honest review based on your experience. At $50K, the Polestar falls short in my opinion with all of the features lacking in the car that is included as standard in the Model Y with a slightly higher price. The Model Y has safety features included from their experience with the Tesla Vision based FSD Beta software to help automatically prevent accidents. These features will just get better over time. My 2018 Model 3 still drives and feels like a brand new car after a software update. It has the same software features as a 2023 Model 3.

As a current Polestar 2 owner and former model Y owner, I'd have to disagree.
The Polestar has available(maybe not standard, but not available at all on tesla) blind spot warning, cross traffic alert, 360 camera. Not to mention the ergonomics or lack of in Tesla border on dangerous, especially the lack of a windshield wiper stalk.
I've owned 5 EVs. Tesla model Y, Ioniq 5 AWD, gv60 performance, bolt, and Polestar. Polestar is the best of all of them(with the gv60 a close 2nd)

The turn signal sound for Polestar 2 is a hate or love feature. Personally, I absolutely LOVE IT. It is so futuristic and nice sounding compared to all the other cars I've driven. This may be a thing in Sweden but in Swedish Facebook groups, you'll find how everyone's raving about the nice-sounding turning signal. I find that this review lacks lots of info. Most people who know Polestar recommends not getting the performance package but do get the plus package and dual motor version where the acceleration speed is the same as Tesla Y. The single pedal driving is much more enjoyable in Polestar 2 vs Tesla Y after testing the two cars multiple times. You also get the same acceleration in Polestar 2 with less sea sickness feeling in your stomach. I don't know what magic juice they put into the Polestar 2 but it is much more enjoyable in Polestar 2. The feeling of driving a Polestar 2 is way better than Tesla Y. If you like driving cars, the Polestar 2 is for you. Also, the loudness of the car and the AC is much louder in Tesla Y. I test-drove 10+ EVs before I got my P2, and I had a decibel meter with me. Wow, what a difference. Oh yes, the Polestar 2 has manual buttons and levers for what you expect. No fiddling around with the nipples on the steering wheel that you have on the Tesla. Again, there are so many things to compare between cars that this review does not even touch upon. Look for better comparisons.

Great Video, I had a MYLR for 13 months after a M3SR but MY had to go back and got a PS2 had it for 5 months and is going back for a 2023 MYLR
The PS2 has 2 things better and that’s it one is the built quality is absolutely brilliant I can’t fault it in any way its rock solid and feels very premium and the second is the screen behind the wheel I I’ve the nav in that screen it takes up the whole real estate of the screen and changes to Apple Maps if that’s what your using
    PS2 Issues:
Will start with the biggest one as not many people doing these videos live with the cars just test them and that’s range, efficiency and charging speed, I calculated the PS2 uses 11% battery to the MY 3% on a journey I do regularly. charging speed I don’t have a home charger as there is a bank of public ones near my house so if I put my PS2 on charge for 12 hours on the 7kw public at 20% then I would come back to it and it would only be up to 70% maybe where the MY would be at 100% in my case this is annoying as I have to do a long trip once a week in the MY I could put it on that 12 hour charge do my long trip and still have charge for probably rest of my driving week the PS2 need multiple charging through the week this has caused my monthly charging bill to go from £75 a month to £180.
The main screen and software are total garbage to the point it’s almost a joke that this is something they find acceptable to be in the car it’s hard to navigate and very very basic.
Reversing camera this defaults to 360 overhead camera full screen which is a nice view and full screen but not helpful when seeing what’s actually behind you so you can push the screen to go in to seeing the camera on the back this then goes in to a Split View half screen with the camera view at the bottom then just a black screen at the top with a top view of the car there’s no way to make this full screen or what would be better is a Split View with the camera view at the bottom and 360 view at the top.
The app is pointless its never works always reloading or can’t get info only ever use this to double check locked the car other that that total crap.
Car doesn’t lock on walk away so if your not using the keys which are bricks then you have to make sure you remember to touch the door handle to lock it.
Manual charging flap, the amount of times I have forgotten to close this and had people flashing me or pulling up next to me to tell me it’s open.
Break grind on creep, if you town driving and the car isn’t warm the sound from the breaks when creeping is so loud that it actually scares pedestrians.
Apple car play, this is great but its wired and considering the position of the UBS C port the wire is pointing straight up all the time restricting even more space as well as having the wire itself taking up even more space.
Lastly its so cramped in the cabin, I have the panoramic roof and it doesn’t help I’m only 5’8 and on a long journey I just want to be out of that car my fiat punto when I was 19 had more space in it.
The MY isn’t perfect at all but I only really had a few gripes with it one was the windscreen wipers they could go nuts when it was drizzling but in hard rain be so slow
The lights on the MY are matrix but not switched on and the auto dimming of high beam just doesn’t work it’s probably the worst I have seen in any car.
I did have a few System crashes in my MY but only about 3.
I hope this helps someone else out who’s looking to purchase either car

If Tesla would just add Apple CarPlay then people would have a lot less to complain about. They added Apple Music but it lags a bunch versus Tidal or the other audio options. And the lack of group text message support is awful. Just add CarPlay, Tesla!!

I have both a 2023 Model 3 SR+ and a 2021 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor w/ Performance Software Upgrade. To my surprise I actually prefer quite a few things about the significanlty less expensive Tesla. It feels much more nimble, the seats are more comfortable, and the cabin is far roomier with more storage cubbies and usable cupholders. It's also far easier to see out of of an has an app that is actually usable unlike the Polestar. With that said, the build quality, acceleration and auto wipers on the Polestar are MUCH better. In an ideal world I would mix the two cars to make the perfect daily driver.

its too HEAVY. made with too many Fastners , and too many Brackets holding up MORE Brackets.

The Polestar has a fully electric adjustable seat if you upgrade to the plus! Of course it gets more expensive than a Tesla if you add all the upgrades, but you also pay for the extra build quality. Tesla is very randomly built, and the parts seem to break often and early.

Polestar doesn't look at Tesla as a competitor because Polestar is in the luxury electric market they are more aimed at Porsche as a direct competitor. Let's not mention the fact that all new Tesla's no longer have USS and other safety features, Tesla Vision is not yet ready and will never be the same as sensors because the camera will never be able to detect exact distance from lower end of bumper to objects that aren't poles, cars, etc. Even when a MachE has better build quality than any Tesla there are no disputes to be made.

Choice is simple. If you are going to buy an ev for the benefit of it's tech, range, charging network and performance then Tesla is your choice. I dont think I can have another car without the Sentry mode and Dog mode. The tech is amazing in a Tesla. If looks are more important then buy a gasoline powered luxury car for the same price. You will get the same tech of a non tesla EV but more luxury and handling capability and better bang for your buck.
