My question is around the fear of dropping down an unbroken wave. For some reason I seem to have a fear of the bigger waves. I’ll either see the wave behind me, or feel the power of it taking the board and I’ll panic and bottle it. Are there any tips you can give me on how to commit safely to the bigger waves? And what can I do to progress into making it look effortless? I hope you and the team are well. Give my best wishes to everyone Tim. 🤙🏼
Thanks for that Mark... even the best of us go through those fears. Yes do check the wave behind you but dont keep looking at it. Focus far more on your vision across the wave and that takes a lot of fear away. Dont look down into the drop if possible . Yes a quick look but dont focus straight ...keep that vision where you want to go . Also breath ...its vital to reduce stress in those moments We are all good thanks and paddling hard through the Covid 19 stuff. Hello, i have some questions that I'll be glad if you can answer😊
If i wake up and i wanna go surf should i eat something before? Is it dangerous if not?
Also, i don't sure what is the right board for me.. how can i tell? Im 1.64m and weight 57 I started surfing maybe 8 months ago. I can catch waves and go right or left but today i surfed with another board (more volume and smaller than i used to surf with. It was 7ft and 60 cm wide) and i couldn't catch one wave. I noticed when i paddled to a wave i wasnt in a straight line with my body, i tented to move a bit my board when i paddled. Maybe i did it also on the 8ft really wide board (i think more than 60 cm wide) and didn't feel it cause it is wider and i have more control?
I practice skating and succeeded to do a bit surfing manovuers but i can't do them if i cant get the wave.
Im not sure what is the problem, maybe my skills? Or maybe i need to go back to my 8 ft board? Thank you. Also thank you Tim for your videos it really helps🙏🏻
Hi thanks for the questions. Firstly we would ask if you have had any formal qualified instruction...that could really help a lot ..if it good instruction. At your weight and height we would also say that 8 ft is going to suit you better at the moment. Keep the lower body still and relaxed and always have your head up and looking as this will help you a lot . As for the maneuvers ..take your time and check out our Surf Insight channel for lots of advice on turning ..It takes longer on a board to learn than a skate . Im a beginner and I'm having trouble in sitting on my board behind the brakers. It's an 8' foamy. And im 6'8. It's a little wobbly and unstable but I feel I can popup on it. The beach goers don't help the situation either, downing me when before I go out. My arms are already weak from the paddle out. Then I half to rest before taking a wave. Foamies aren't the most stable board around. Please can you help on this issue? Thanks
Thanks James ...hope you get to subsribe to the channel too. At 6'8 you really should be on a 9' unless your super light in weight .. when you sit on the board dont look down but keep your eyes on the horizon and things around you ...but not down. I did 5 days in Sri Lanka with them. Well worth the money for me. I definitely saw major improvement in my surfing.
