- For this week, I talk about the different Live ND available on OM SYSTEM cameras and give you some examples from Live ND 2 to 128. I hope this video is helpful. Let me know in the comments what your favorite Live ND is and how you use this feature. Enjoy!

Great video Emilie. I love the built in Live ND feature and the computational features are one of the main reasons I moved to OM System
ND feature is so cool. Thanks for sharing.
Very good informative video
Thanks for reacting to my comments. Pls make vdo on GND with live view shooting on how to use it..
Thank you, Emilie...such a great OM feature ..no need to bring along extra gear (ND filters). I have used i & loved this feature.
Thank you Cindy. It really is like magic
I‘ve tried it with my E-M1 III, but in daylight I always end up with an f-stop of 22. So I started carrying glass filters again
I have used them on my OM-1 many times. But in some bright days they are not enough. I sincerely prefer the glass ones and I also prefer to use them with the Live Composite.
Thanks Emilie. I have only used this once on my OM-1. Time to try it again because not too many birds here in Calgary yet either. I also appreciate the tip about the preview simulation. I will keep it OFF in future. 👌
Hi Marlene! Happy Sunday. Yes the preview simulation can be a bit dizzying if not turned off. I must admit I got used to it and often keep it on but it requires to be stable. Way easy to shoot with it turned off if you are doing it handheld and with a telephoto lens. Can't wait to see what you photograph using live ND.
Such a brilliant idea
Thank you for this! When you apply the filter, does it affect the exposure meter so you know how much to adjust shutter?
it does.
Thanks for this video Emilie. I just want to ask, the sample images that you showed (from Live ND 4 - 128), all of them has the same shutter speed, that is, 1 second?
I kept same aperture and ISO but had to move my shutter speed. Live ND 2 was 1/60s and kept increasing for each ND until I got ND128 at 1 sec
Thanks @@EmilieT
Bonjour Émilie, j'essaye l'ICM +Live ND (OM-5) en ville, mais il y a trop de lumière, est-il possible d'utiliser Live ND avec EN PLUS un filtre ND physique ?? Great video thank you !!!😃🌞
Bonjour Isabelle!
Wow. I have the EM1X and use ND with my Macro 90mm lens.
Emilie - Great video as always. Love the ND filter on the OM1 (both models)
Question re the microf=phone you are using. I saw you your video on it several a weeks ago which was helpful. You mentioned the river noise at the start of this video, yet we don't hear it all. Did the microphone really not pick it up, or did you use some noise reduction software on the audio track in the post processing of the video. Either way it worked great. I am curious which it was.
Thank you
Hi Jim. I use lumafusion to process my videos and it has a basic voice cleaner that I used but I seriously could not believe that my microphone did not pick up more of the river! I was shouting the whole video and thought it was not going to work.
Merci for quick reply@@EmilieT
Good video. I keep a doc with the shortest shutter speed for each ND value that is in the manual. Also, ISO is limited in the OM-1 to 800...
True. Although most of the time, I use ISO 200. So the limitation to 800 is never an issue.
I have an OM5. Can you use live nd in shutter priority instead of manual? Thanks. X
Yes you can use LV ND in Shutter priority or Manual
Thank you! Loved the video. X
Wow!! I shoot primarily with a Nikon Z 7ii, and I never considered a live ND. I don’t know if Nikon has it. Now, I’m going to check it out. Thank you!!!
Good luck on Nikon having it lol.
@@HotGates Yeah, it doesn’t. ….sigh….. I’ll just continue to do my best to improve dynamic range in post. Or filters, which can be a pain. And expensive.
It is a feature specific to OM SYSTEM right now. Lots of computational technologies in the OM SYSTEM cameras that are quite fun but as we say the best camera you have is the one in your hand so use the tools you have to create your images. @@dianeabell5782
I use live nd every time at a river or see any moving water it is a great feature .
It truly is!
S mode works as well. So ND is possible in M or S mode. (Not in A or P mode)
I want your 150-400 😅
I love Live ND on my OM-1, but for handheld, it is best to skip my coffee ☕
Emilie you really need to use sock with that camera lens in the field not only for camouflage but to protect the lens we all know what it looks like now thanks.
socks? I never use anything when I am in the field. My lens is weather-sealed and the white lens has a purpose. I never had any issues with animals being scared of my lens and heard too many horror stories with lens covers. I do not recommend them at all.
@@EmilieTI haven't used those camo lens covers, but also never heard horror stories. Can you share what kind of problems you have heard of?
They attract mold because they don't dry@@jugstopper
You can also use LiveND in Shutter preferred mode, and let the camera determine the exposure :)
@@StephenIngraham yes that is correct. I am a big fan of Manual so I tend to always prioritize that mode
