I don't really think this is France Football's fault, it's just the fact that people actually give too much credit and prestige to an award which is clearly subjetive and favour strikers over any other position, with a lot of journalists just voting for their national players.

Not even just that tho. Leverkusen won the DFB Pokal and were runner ups in the Europa League, all of which they did unbeaten (they lost 3-0 to Atalanta in the Europa League final but that was the *ONLY GAME* where they lost a match last season)
Ademola Lookman had a great AFCON and important to the progress of Nigeria. He deserved his place and will win African Player of the year as well. Football fans are cooked nowadays and seem obsessed with trophies as the only measure of a player's greatness. People will seriously argue that Benzema is a better striker than Lewandowski just because he won the Ballon d'Or, or that Aguero isn’t a legend since he never won the Champions League or an international trophy. As a Chelsea fan, it’s frustrating to hear people dismiss Hazard, saying he “was only good for a couple of seasons” or that his prime was short when he was the best or top 3 players in the Prem for 6 out of 7 seasons. Or that he didn’t win anything with Belgium or succeed at Madrid. But when it comes to Kaka, who had an even shorter prime and struggled at Madrid due to injuries, people will still call him a legend just because he won a Ballon d'Or. The way football judges players now is way too focused on awards and misses what truly made them great and I hate awards like this because it's the reason it's gone this way.

According to the rules the ballon d’or looks at the achoevments over the Football Saison 23/24, and while he definitely is in the top 3 best players in the world at the moment, he really wasn’t least season. He had 8 goals and 17 assists in 60 games in that season and 1/5 of that happened during the euros. In my opinion he technically should even make the top 20 maybe not even the top 30, I think it’s fine to place him on an 18th place considering his incredible end of year
100% Agree. In Yamal’s case, People suffered heavily from recency bias. Another factor is because the media really hyped up Yamal due to his age. He had a great euro’s tournament, but his 2023/24 season with barcelona was Below Average. According to “transfermarkt stats”, last season, Yamal played 50 games for barcelona and he ONLY got 7 goals + 9 assists. Come to our club, we can make you into the best player and have the best squad money can buy. Let's face it, they do not develop any of their own players from their academy, so the transfer market is their only option to build a team. Why wouldn't they? i It would not be surprising if it turned out they payed for votes, given the financial incentive for winning. Why else would they have scheduled a 5 hour show and prepare a 50 person delegation or whatever it was. Here is a list (my opinion) of what the Balon Dor would look like if it was fair/fairer (too many things to explain dont make me argue about things that are a given just because i didnt want to write 50 pages of context) 1 - Rodri - individually i do still think he was better and more important to his team its just hard to show because City could win the Prem with their B team at this point 2 - Viny - the best attacker in terms of output for his team who won everything (importance on HIS team) outside of the Spanish Cup but overall not even near top output compared to others even with adjusted minutes 3 - Jude Bellingham - Fantastic start and debut season for club and country but towards the later parts he was really lacking on off the ball play which might have cost him a Euros still clutch from time to time 4 - Harry Kane - Despite not winning anything cause of a broken Bayern side and losing in the final Kane for me was the best performer of the year , most complete in-form striker right now just sucks that he is anti clutch but if we are being honest his teammates also massively failed him from time to time 5 - Lautaro Martinez - Top scorer in the second best League in the world (per Uefa and Opta ) and top scorer in the Copa America , won a domestic double and his confederations trophy by being the main man , an early UCL exit is all he has for wrongs 6 - Alejandro Grimaldo - Euro winner and invincible domestic double and Europa league finalist , lost 1 game all year , was the best performing full back in the world along side his counterpart Frimpong , also insane output as a fullback actually 3 G/A off Vinicius himself AS A FULLBACK 7 - Toni Kroos - Great last season from an individuall and team prespective , Toni pretty much as class as always Germany's defeat is the only reason he isnt higher Anything under these 7 players can be whatever imo these are the only players who were clear cut better than everyone else , shout outs however go to , Salah , Rudiger , F. Valverde , Foden , Palmer , Halaand , Xhaka , Carvajal , Emi Martinez , Calhanoglou , Frimpong , Wirtz , Saliba , Rice in no particular order

This reminds me of when Kante won the PFA Player of the year in 2017 when the likes of Hazard, Kane and Alexis Sanchez had stellar seasons. All of them would have been worthy winners but it was refreshing to see a non-attacking player win the award. I think Vini had a case, but for me Rodri deserved to win this year's Ballon d'or
No he didnt. He was deserving of a spot in the TOTY, but he was not the best player in the world. He somehow won player of the tournament at the EUROS despite Spain playing better without him, and he oversaw a pretty poor season for City. People will seriously argue that Benzema is a better striker than Lewandowski just because he won the Ballon d'Or, or that Aguero isn’t a legend since he never won the Champions League or an international trophy. As a Chelsea fan, it’s frustrating to hear people dismiss Hazard, saying he “was only good for a couple of seasons” or that his prime was short when he was the best or top 3 players in the Prem for 6 out of 7 seasons. Or that he didn’t win anything with Belgium or succeed at Madrid. But when it comes to Kaka, who had an even shorter prime and struggled at Madrid due to injuries, people will still call him a legend just because he won a Ballon d'Or. Here is a list (my opinion) of what the Balon Dor would look like if it was fair/fairer (too many things to explain dont make me argue about things that are a given just because i didnt want to write 50 pages of context)
1 - Rodri - individually i do still think he was better and more important to his team its just hard to show because City could win the Prem with their B team at this point
2 - Viny - the best attacker in terms of output for his team who won everything (importance on HIS team) outside of the Spanish Cup but overall not even near top output compared to others even with adjusted minutes
3 - Jude Bellingham - Fantastic start and debut season for club and country but towards the later parts he was really lacking on off the ball play which might have cost him a Euros still clutch from time to time
4 - Harry Kane - Despite not winning anything cause of a broken Bayern side and losing in the final Kane for me was the best performer of the year , most complete in-form striker right now just sucks that he is anti clutch but if we are being honest his teammates also massively failed him from time to time
5 - Lautaro Martinez - Top scorer in the second best League in the world (per Uefa and Opta ) and top scorer in the Copa America , won a domestic double and his confederations trophy by being the main man , an early UCL exit is all he has for wrongs
6 - Alejandro Grimaldo - Euro winner and invincible domestic double and Europa league finalist , lost 1 game all year , was the best performing full back in the world along side his counterpart Frimpong , also insane output as a fullback actually 3 G/A off Vinicius himself AS A FULLBACK
7 - Toni Kroos - Great last season from an individuall and team prespective , Toni pretty much as class as always Germany's defeat is the only reason he isnt higher
Anything under these 7 players can be whatever imo these are the only players who were clear cut better than everyone else , shout outs however go to , Salah , Rudiger , F. Look at the games City won with or without Rodri , and Rodri himself lost maybe 2 or 3 games in a whole season. And Vinicius fans, Vini is only 24 years old, he still has enough time to win a Ballon d'Or, it's not the end of the world or a disgrace that he didn't win it this year.
