This is why the Nations League is a brilliant idea. It gives the minnow nations more chance at being competitive, compared to the World Cup and European Championship qualification where they're grouped with teams that they dont stand a chance against.
San Marino needs to arrange some friendlies with countries like Anguilla, Samoa or Seychelles. I’m 100% certain that they will beat all of those nations. Their position at the bottom of the FIFA rankings always seemed off to me, I think it’s only because they’re in UEFA and usually face tougher competition
@@3lettersl0lbro I mean they need to arrange one NOW, or at least soon during the next international break, whilst they’re still in this good form. I wanna see them against other similarly small, low ranked nations on other continents
That is what I have thought all along. There is no way that San Marino are the worst national team in the world. Bar New Zealand, they would beat all other OFC nations. I would also think they would at least be on par with some of the lower ranking teams in Africa, Asia and the CONCACAF region. It is just unfortunate that their geographical location means they are in the strongest confederation with so many powerhouse nations of the game so they regularly take heavy beatings. It is like putting a National League team in the Premier League. Of course they are going to look bad by comparison.
winning against same opponent 3 time isn't really amazing let's be honest 😂 I'm not hating, i just didn't want them to become punching bag of league C 😅
The Nations League is actually a far better tournament than it generally gets credit for. For one thing it produces reliably tight games since most teams competing are at similar levels. This is not just good for minnows like San Marino, but also at the other end of the scale. More regularly playing top international rivals has most likely helped England to kick on and reach major finals. And this year's competition has perhaps also helped Scotland and Wales to step up. An all-round beneficial effect and plenty of entertainment for the fans instead of the routine tedium of old-fashioned friendlies. It's not often I applaud UEFA, but on this one they deserve maximum credit.
This is part of the reason for the Nations League, for European nations to play competitive games against nations of a similar standard to them. The RUclipsr, the Tim Traveller has done a few videos about the San Marino national team including attending their first recent win against Liechtenstein.
Fun Fact: Sanmarinese political parties mirrored italian ones. Also both parties had a liberal "Republican Party". Very creative guys. Oh and the PCI, the Italian communists turned anti-soviet union and won local elections in which they governed.
I was actually talking about this with my father a couple of days ago. The only really good thing about Nations League is that the smaller countries, not just San Marino, are actually playing against Nations similar in quality to themselves. As my father said: "You're not gonna learn anything by being smashed 6,7,8 or 9-0 to countries obviously superior to you. By playing nations of similar quality, they might actually learn something.
Same goes for the countries that are beating them 8-0. Doesn't achieve anything for them either. If they applied the Nations League format to tournament qualifying, it would make more sense. In the Nations League you have to earn the right to play against the best teams.
@thomasjohnson2862 Absolutely agree. A team like England, France or Germany literally get nothing out of playing San Marino or Lichtenstein. I agree with you in terms of tournament qualifying. The question though is how to implement it

If San Marino's current display is astonishing, Liechtenstein's plunge into a level where they are even outclassed by San Marino isn't any less gobsmacking. Maybe the Nations League isn't such a waste of time after all when every team competes in parity to the other including San Marino who would end up being humiliated whenever they compete in the International qualifiers so this sort of format is something worth celebrating for them
The thing is with San Marino they used to sit back and let opponents keep on having shots and loads of passes around the box but now they are actually going for it a bit more and getting results

LMAO
By the way, precisely the joyous occasion of SM winning football matches is a good reason for the nations league to exist. I think people would do well to consider this when moaning about the 'meaningless' competition.
Apparently San Marino have won 4 times in their history and 3 of those were against Liechtenstein which I find surprising because while I know that Liechtenstein are among the lowest ranked nations they don't stand out to me as being as bad as San Marino who seem to get trounced on a regular basis in the WC and Euro often by double figures I don't remember Liechtenstein losing as heavily as often for some reason
They won twice against Liechtenstein who has been awful for several years now, it's not like they beat much better teams than them like the Faroe Islands did for instance.
22:43 What is going?
another banger
It's not a total shock outcome, as they had better results at the start of this year in the Euro qualifying.
