  • Today i am going to try the easiest brass plating method known to man: heating the metal part with a blowtorch and rubbing it with a brass-wired brush. Simple and effective, as it turns out and a good alternative to electroplating. In future videos i intend to use it to give a nice shinny finish to some scrap metal artworks i have in the works.

Thanks. I am also preparing a copper plating experiment as well, and I do believe that will be my next video. Copper plating and brass plating are the two processes that can be attempted with ease. The "Holy Grail" is of course Chrome Plating, but because of the chemicals involved it is out of reach for the most people.

@@isographer I've done copper plating electrochemically and it was pretty simple. Took some experimenting to figure out that the current needs to change as the thickness changes. Worth trying.

How does this technique hold up against the elements? I have a stainless steel boiler inside my sauna I am tempted to try this plating on...:)

Hy, i don't think it will hold well against the weather. All the artworks i have plated this way in the past were protected by applying adittional layers of clearcoat.
