About Wacken: the 2008 show will certainly not be remembered as one of the best in your career. What happened?
ROY KHAN :“A sequence of unfortunate events … that night I slept very little, I got up late and to not miss the last shuttle available, I had to skip breakfast. I arrived in the backstage on an empty stomach and someone gave me a quarter-full bottle of whiskey and I don’t know why, but after twenty minutes, the bottle was empty! While I was on stage, I realized that it would be the longest 50 minutes of my career. It was the first and last time I performed drunk. What terrible timing! I remember Thomas saying: «Why Roy? You barely drink…and of all places you manage to get completely drunk at Wacken?”

Foi um momento difícil para Roy, mas ele é meu ídolo e deu a volta por cima. Kamelot não é nada sem você, mesmo que o cantor atual seja muito bom. Mas Roy é Roy! Já curto Kamelot há 13 anos e vou envelhecer ouvindo. Thomas é alguém que eu queria como amigo; o cara é visionário. No mais Kamelot será sempre minha banda!

Aw. Seeing this makes me realize that Khan really did need a break. Tommy really does a wonderful job of filling this spot though, and I'm thankful for all of the hard work that both singers have done to make this beautiful music.
It really is a testament to a singer's talents that even when at far less than 100 percent most other singers still can't even touch him/her. Khan is such a singer and while he's not my absolute favorite all time vocalist (second place in my opinion) you'd be hard pressed to find a whole lot of other singers with not just the range and technique but also the passion and conviction that Khan possessed. Still holding out hope that one day he'll get back into music on a professional level even if he doesn't do any full time year long touring (which I wouldn't blame him for).
He is, was and will be awesome. Instead of cancelling the show as all singers would have done, he tried his best! He is awesome!

I don´t think he tried his best, it seems to me he was bored to be in the band and maybe didn´t like to sing those songs anymore... That´s what I get from his way of singing, he sounded great whenever he wished to but on other parts he didn´t even try.
I'm very impressed how professional how Roy was.
I did not create controversy or anything like that, just that even though my heart breaks I also see also Roy, the show was going to be amazing, in fact it is not 100% but is spectacular! I hope you will also share what I see and not the bad side of Kamelot. So sad to see this. However, Roy had one of the most beautiful voices i´ve ever heard.
He was sick in this show. You can notice that there's something wrong with his breathing and with his lungs. In some songs he doesn't even sing the whole verse because he doesn't have the power to do that. Yet he deserves respect 'cause he tried everything to sing for the people out there.....
Someone said he was drunk during this show. But he sang much better than other sober singer.
@@MauroFarina91 Yeah, Roy was a bit sick, but the main problem here is that he was exhausted after long hours inside a plane and rather than resting, eating properly and hydrating, he chugged a huge bottle of booze on an empty stomach. So the effects of the alcohol kicked in much faster than he expected.
He tried so hard, I thought he was sick. They put so much pressure on him... I am so happy he's back, I even dreamt of meeting him in person, that would be a dream come true :)
As much as I like Tommy as a replacement, wish I could have seen them live with Roy.
Having seen them live with Roy several times, it was epic. Tommy is a great replacement, but Roy was one of the best performers, period.

Hace tiempo vi este video sin conocer el contexto de este día. Habrá sido hace años y antes de conocer bien a Roy, así que creí que como otros cantantes que existen, su voz en vivo era así. ¡Qué ingenua! Por alguna razón empecé a buscar otros materiales en vivo y me di cuenta de que es increíble su talento y su emotividad. Él realmente ama cantar, tiene una voz brillante, colocada en todos sus resonadores, una facilidad para cambiar entre voz de pecho y falsete que ni se oye el paso, un diafragma bien entrenado, no resopla como algunos hacen al respirar, no se queda a media frase porque el aire le falló, su voz es plena de armónicos, y su vitalidad se muestra cada vez que canta. De verdad es un tesoro una persona que no sólo tiene el don sino que da su alma en cada interpretación. Creo que a todos nos llega una lección para aprender en un punto de nuestra vida, y sin duda esta interpretación fue un sufrimiento porque físicamente ese día tuvo muchos eventos desafortunados y sabemos que el cantante tiene su instrumento dentro de sí y se ve afectado por las emociones. El resultado fue caótico, sin embargo queda claro que pese a todo lo sucedido en ese escenario es un ser dotado de valor, talento, habilidad, carisma, pasión. amor, respeto... El es un ser musical en sí mismo y eso no se puede dudar. Mi respeto, admiración, bendiciones y amor para el ser interior que es Roy Khan.

Roy, he was really sick, as you guys can know from the flu, just light flu can affect the vocal cord though because it is so delicate part of our body.
Even for professional, it is hard to sing with bad illness let alone for normal person like me.

Aye, plus Roy was the face of the band, he wrote most songs, adapted the bands style and changed them for the better, you can see the difference from before he joined to when he did.

First song was alright, but after the voice gotten heat up, everything went down. I think this Wacken video should have a main section comment, which states that Roy was sick and extra link for one cold winter's night. )))
Quite sad to see this, the show is good, but his voice is nowhere near what it was in the 2005 DVD. Poor guy

Oh how I wish I could have been there!
I was at this gig and I didn't realise that he was sick, I just thought he was terrible, which surprised by because their studio stuff sounded great. But it wasn't just the singing that was off, it was probably the most quiet band all day and it sounded off. This clip actually sounds better then being there though!

Top hat Jones so my theory maybe is correct, as I noticed Thomas and Casey wrong timing here and there, maybe the stage was not so good as everyone think. And I noticed and Wacken it happen often, other artist less "important" got not good audio service (ussualy who perform during the daylight) if we think on the whole things in the shoes of the band, it's normal they sound not at their best, you have to show with the singer sick, and that already is not good for the stamina, if you find the stage not as you expect will make you confuse, song by song Roy loose his voice even more, I can just imagine in their mind how much things they thinking in that moment! :)

Определенно запрещено было выходить на сцену и петь с такой инфекцией и больными связками. Весь опухший, с синяками под глазами, шатающийся он даже не мог говорить - хрипел. Но такой человек не мог подставить друзей по группе. Бывших друзей. Которым на его здоровье было ...ть (начхать) как тогда, так и сейчас. Зато они быстро нашли замену тому, кого заменить априори нельзя. Где-же сейчас Камелот? На дне power-metal индустрии с вокалистом-пожарником который ещё и пытается уподобится образу предыдущего вокалиста, которому до сих пор по артистизму и самоотдаче равных не найти.

I love Kamelot a lot, they're one of my favorite bands and i've seen them live like 4 or 5 times but this show was not up to pair, he (roy)seems distracted and discordinated with the rest of band and sometimes a little off key in some songs and harmonies, but i still love them, they're an awesome band

Me encanta Kamelot, pero me da mucha pena que ROY no haya podido disfrutar del show por la exigencia vocal que le demandó la performans.
I respect Kamelot and Roy a lot, I'm a big fan of them since 2005... but more than sickness, this sounds like a bad singing technique throughout the years, and if you hear their records with attention you can hear the loose of range because of it. When he speaks at the very start and between songs he sounds healthy. I'm not trying to be disrespectful with them because i really love their music... but if you hear the fourth legacy and then ghost opera, in some parts he sounds like two different singers... so sad ... :(
Wait. You really think that a unique vocalist as The Great Roy Khan can sing with Kamelot for more than 12 years and have an improper singing technique? Really? He studied opera for years, so you are wrong. Also, there are shows AFTER the 2008 Wacken that he nailed. Cause this date is still from the Ghost Opera tour. Shows from the PFTP tour sound great, at least the ones that are uploaded... Anyway, a busy tour schedule killed off his voice, not the technique.

I think watching this, if anything, makes me like Roy all the more. He may not sound the best, but despite being sick, and probably feeling like crap. Hell, if he had a chest infection, I imagine that could be painful, too (Not sure, but, yeah), especially when singing. Despite that, he not only still did the concert, but still gave it his all. At least, I believe he did. It looks that way from watching him. And I think that's awesome. I don't know for sure, but I imagine not many singers would still sing, despite being sick and not singing the best.
Also, he seems to care about global warming, or at least the atmosphere thinning, and I like that.
Poor guy gets worse and worse with each song. Roy is only human. He wanted to make the fans happy and not wuss-out because he was not feeling well. Shame we lost his gift
