I put my radio on every weekday morning to listen to Steve and get the feel of being back home. It is not just the people in the UK that love Steve he has listeners all over there world. I haven’t got over Simon Mayo leaving yet! I love the friendship between Steve and Tim Smith. What is happening to Tim? Very, very sad. Good luck Steve.
Radio 2 has lost a phenomenal number of listeners since putting in the more `modern` presenters. They`ve changed the genre and leave us older folks with less music to enjoy. Still, there`s always GHR which is gaining listeners by the day.
What I say is bring back the old radio1 school Tony Blackburn, Steve Wright, Mike Read, Neil Edmonds, Peter Powell, DLT,Dave Cash, Simon Bates,Bruno Brookes etc bring back the old days Make radio fun again.
Absolute DISGRACE! The BBC had it all with Steve Wright and they DUMPED HIM! What more did the BBC want! Millions stopped listening and were heartbroken losing Steve Wright because He was such a great part of our lives and they dropped him…Unbelievable. We love you Steve Wright xxx
Steve Wright is by far the best broadcaster on BBC radio. I've listened to him for years, since way back when he was on Radio 1. He's clever, witty & keeps his program fresh - Scott whatever-his-name-is has some huge shoes to fill - Looks like Greatest Hits Radio for me!
If I were Steve Wright I'd be negotiating a contract with Virgin Radio or Spotify. He has a loyal audience who have gown up with him, that's money in the bank! Look how well Chris Evans has done, on less talent. This is a woke decision rather than a logical one.
It happened when jimmy young was pushed out to bring Jeremy vine in , an appalling way to treat jimmy , then we have the ghastly zoe ball and sara cox , Scott mills will not be able to fill Steve's shoes. R2 is nearly R1 now, only ken Bruce left , when he gets pushed out its its goodbye from me .
Agree wholeheartedly pal. Ken must be really wondering how long he has left. Bad move bbc I won’t be listening to Scot mills he’s as much personality as a damp rag
I agree Sue Barker's department from Question of Sport was a disaster. Used to watch it with Sue, Matt and Phil - they had a great chemistry, couldn't tell you who are the captains now.
radio 2 SHOULD be old and white. Radio 1 is for the young and diverse. why should the young have everything? older people are being side lined. cast off like an old sock as my husband is fond of saying. 😀
@@andrewoliver8930 that's not the point. it's what the older generation like that counts. anyway I preferred Stew pot to Steve. Steve actually plays to much (c) rapping to try to stay down with the kids but it didn't save him. Ken Bruce is still good but by the time Zoe is over I forget to switch on until he's nearly over.
@@SheilaTitchener Radio 2 is for people above 25 - 30 years old. Terry Wogan was only 39 when he started on the station. Steve Wright has been on for over 20 years and it's time for the next incumbent to get the job.
Exactly . None of them do and they have many alternative outlets that cater for their ‘music’ that don’t require a licence . If they want us to continue to pay for a licence they need to cater for those who actually pay for it ….and it ain’t teenagers . Radio two needs to return to the values of the Terry Wogan era . A gentler time ….not the raucous stuff we get from the likes of Zoe Ball .
Rest in peace Steve. BBC radio 2 was never the same without your afternoon show. Hope the decision makers are feeling guilty now! A legend leaves a legacy 😢You brought so much joy to so many millions.
I don't know what else to say but other than I am gonna miss him. I hate change, and I think this is a huge mistake, and think Scott is the wrong person for this job. In 12 months from now, I might be eating my words. Steve has his own wacky, zany style and that's what the BBC will mess up. Why can't you work until your 100 if you want to.
The bbc needs to go hardly anybody bothers with it , I like steve wright he's really good to listen to, the bbc is losing all its viewers and listeners and I think it's time to shut down PERMANENTLY.
Simon Mayo only found it a strain when Jo Whitley was shoehorned into his show. He now hosts an extra hour on Greatest Hits Radio (4pm to 7pm), whereas his old Radio 2 show was on from 5pm for two hours. The BBC is engaged in woke box-ticking.
The rot set in when they removed Mike Harding. Then the atrocity of changing Simon Mayo's slot & format. Moving Bob Harris an hour later. And on radio 3, moving essential classics host
They've just bumped Johnnie Walkers rock show from prime time Saturday night to eleven on a Tuesday night their slowly getting rid of the greats with their relentless box ticking agenda.
I remember was Steve Wright was on radio one back in the mid eighties when Radio one was the number one station in the country. Sadly the whole music industry has changed beyond all recognition and everyone listens to music through various mediums but from a personal point and yes I’m middle aged but I loved the era of the likes of Wright and especially Peter Purvess whose broadcasting manner was flawless
Pretty balanced replies by Read/Purves/Hamilton and I think overall an acceptance that Steve Wright had a long run and DJs can't go on forever. Bosses decide not presenters but it is true audiences can be lost as a result of drastic changes.
As a child and teenager, I listened to Radio 1. In early middle age, I switched to Radio 2. As that channel became more manic, I moved to Radio’s 3&4. Now Radio 4 has become woke central, I have gone over to my local community Radio (Oldham). Plus of course, I frequent RUclips a lot. Broadcasters will probably continue to hound me into increasingly individualistic and arcane areas. Or I could turn off the lot of them.
If you prefer listening to the older generation radio presenters, check out Boom radio or Boom light , both on digital. Boom plays music from the 50's to the 80's Boom light concentrates on the 50's.
Worst decision made by Radio 2, Steve Wright was and still is a Legend. I for one will not be listening to the new format. The old saying, if it’s not broke don’t mend it. The BBC I am afraid have shot themselves in the foot with this decision.
Steve Wright is a wonderful chap, BBC should be ashamed of themselves 😠 😡
Totally wrong. The BBC don’t realise how much a part of our lives these dj’s become, especially Steve Wright

I haven’t got over Simon Mayo leaving yet! I love the friendship between Steve and Tim Smith. What is happening to Tim? Very, very sad. Good luck Steve.
Do you listen to BBC Radio London's night time Jo Good Show...? She has alot of listeners & callers from America...she's a great broadcaster also...
This is why Boom Radio is doing well.David Hamilton can be heard there.
Hopefully Steve will be there soon and on after David 🙂❤️
@@colindowd9756 Excellent reply-- and I agree
I can see Tony Blackburn going there too eventually
how about abolishing the BBC for something different
Radio 2 has lost a phenomenal number of listeners since putting in the more `modern` presenters. They`ve changed the genre and leave us older folks with less music to enjoy. Still, there`s always GHR which is gaining listeners by the day.
What I say is bring back the old radio1 school Tony Blackburn, Steve Wright, Mike Read, Neil Edmonds, Peter Powell, DLT,Dave Cash, Simon Bates,Bruno Brookes etc bring back the old days Make radio fun again.
Try listening to Tony Blackburn's Sunday evening show...BBC Radio Solent & Berkshire via BBC Sounds...he is still brilliant...👌
Shameful, could have accommodated both of them.
I ll never listen to the bbc again 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Steve Wright is by far the best broadcaster on BBC radio. I've listened to him for years, since way back when he was on Radio 1. He's clever, witty & keeps his program fresh - Scott whatever-his-name-is has some huge shoes to fill - Looks like Greatest Hits Radio for me!
If I were Steve Wright I'd be negotiating a contract with Virgin Radio or Spotify. He has a loyal audience who have gown up with him, that's money in the bank! Look how well Chris Evans has done, on less talent. This is a woke decision rather than a logical one.
Good idea ….I don’t listen to either Virgin Radio or Spotify .
@@georgemorrison9280 Why are you telling us this?
Who's going to bother listening to Scott Mills after listening to Steve Wright?
It happened when jimmy young was pushed out to bring Jeremy vine in , an appalling way to treat jimmy , then we have the ghastly zoe ball and sara cox , Scott mills will not be able to fill Steve's shoes. R2 is nearly R1 now, only ken Bruce left , when he gets pushed out its its goodbye from me .
Agree wholeheartedly pal. Ken must be really wondering how long he has left. Bad move bbc I won’t be listening to Scot mills he’s as much personality as a damp rag
I can remember Steve Wright starting on Radio 1 back in 1980.
Steve is a legend.
Things move on. Was it ageism when Radio 2 replaced Ed Stewart with Steve Wright?
I agree Sue Barker's department from Question of Sport was a disaster. Used to watch it with Sue, Matt and Phil - they had a great chemistry, couldn't tell you who are the captains now.
radio 2 SHOULD be old and white. Radio 1 is for the young and diverse. why should the young have everything? older people are being side lined. cast off like an old sock as my husband is fond of saying. 😀
Scott Mills is 50. Steve Wright was younger when he took over on Radio 2 from Ed Stewart.
@@andrewoliver8930 rubbish!
@@andrewoliver8930 so where is the station for over 60s? don't we count?????
How many “youngsters”pay for a tv licence
He has had a good run as has Ken Bruce but change is needed....its boring...and extremely predictable!
These three are legends and brilliant 👏
Steve wright will have a break and be back on the airwaves with another station within 6 months
GHR WAITS FOR YOU STEVE.
My pick absolute 80s
Rest in peace Steve. BBC radio 2 was never the same without your afternoon show. Hope the decision makers are feeling guilty now! A legend leaves a legacy 😢You brought so much joy to so many millions.
Love Steve Wright,i love him bring him Back ASAP 👍🏼
I don't know what else to say but other than I am gonna miss him. I hate change, and I think this is a huge mistake, and think Scott is the wrong person for this job. In 12 months from now, I might be eating my words. Steve has his own wacky, zany style and that's what the BBC will mess up. Why can't you work until your 100 if you want to.
legally you can!!!! in industry they can't force you to retire any more.
The bbc needs to go hardly anybody bothers with it , I like steve wright he's really good to listen to, the bbc is losing all its viewers and listeners and I think it's time to shut down PERMANENTLY.
@gillygrey6545 I see a large iceberg heading towards that Titanic building known as BBC Broadcasting House
With Steve being the best person on radio 2…
Simon Mayo only found it a strain when Jo Whitley was shoehorned into his show. He now hosts an extra hour on Greatest Hits Radio (4pm to 7pm), whereas his old Radio 2 show was on from 5pm for two hours. The BBC is engaged in woke box-ticking.
David Hamiltons wig is marvellous😀
The wig has it's own overnight show when David's gone to bed....😉
Wats downstairs like?
@@_Ben4810it's quite hair raising too 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have gone to Boom and not looked back.
The rot set in when they removed Mike Harding. Then the atrocity of changing Simon Mayo's slot & format. Moving Bob Harris an hour later. And on radio 3, moving essential classics host
And Paul Jones .manfreds .
They've just bumped Johnnie Walkers rock show from prime time Saturday night to eleven on a Tuesday night their slowly getting rid of the greats with their relentless box ticking agenda.
Annie Nightingale is on at 2am on a pre recorded slot from her home !!
Bring back mike Reid , Tony Blackburn, Simon bates, and Dave Lee Travis, them were the days !
DLT😂The Hairy Cornflake, haven't you heard😮........ No way he'll be back on the Radio.
Yep ageist, no question. Scott Mills do me a favour, Dermot O Dreary will be next to replace Ken Bruce.
Oh god, I hope you're wrong!!
Pass me the hemlock please 😫😫😫😫
Do not put ideas in their heads .
Not watched the BBC tv for years now goodbye to radio CountryLineRadio for me from now on.
What is that man? What’s Mike on about ?
Steve Wright did the same show on Radio one for years!!!
If you prefer listening to the older generation radio presenters, check out Boom radio or Boom light , both on digital.
Boom plays music from the 50's to the 80's
Boom light concentrates on the 50's.
Worst decision made by Radio 2, Steve Wright was and still is a Legend. I for one will not be listening to the new format. The old saying, if it’s not broke don’t mend it. The BBC I am afraid have shot themselves in the foot with this decision.
I was sorry to see Simon Mayo go from Radio 2 so was delighted when he popped up on Greatest Hits in the same late afteroon slot..
I know .. it's almost as if the format of his show really worked isn't it
Greatest hits radio should be renamed Greatest reapeats radio . I won’t listen to that station if paid me .
Simon Mayo and Ken Bruce must have been crazy to join that station
Love them both. What a bloody awful situation...
Been years since I listened to Steve Wright but he was brilliantly funny. Mark and lard.
