Thank you Harvey for sharing the diversity that exists in the "fig world!" So many people that I work with only know of the Green Kadota, Brown Turkey & Black Mission varieties, when there is an endless world of fig flavors to enjoy!!! You are living the dream of fig lovers, such as myself! I'm you're newest fan & subscriber! Charles :-)
Does appearance correlate at all with flavor ? Are pretty figs tastier/not tasty as compared to ugly figs? Or is it completely random Same question with color interior. Are some interiors tastier than others?
It's not random, but more often than not the figs with dark skin have red pulp with some form of berry flavor while more of the yellow figs have lighter honey-flavored pulp, but there are many exceptions.
hello Harvey , it Looks like you have many fig varietys from 25 to 60 gramms , would you confirm that these smaller varietys are the better tasting ones than the bigger ones from 80 to 130 gr ?
If you have a fig you are trying to identify I suggest taking photos of fruit and leaves and sharing them online with a Facebook group for figs (there are several I belong to) or the ourfigs forum and get input from others. It is best if you explain the history of the tree (if you had bought it somewhere or it's estimated age). It is best if someone in a similar climate as yours as fruits will appear different in different climates.
Shalom there! I'm looking for the best fig available on this world to serve a king! Any advice? "Please" Beautiful music by the way(Todah) Thank you in advance! Emanuel Eliyahu.
It is impossible for me to decide but Panache would be a nice choice, delicious and beautiful and widely available. I suggest giving the king many kinds to chose from to see which he prefers.
I'm sorry, but I have a hard time with that and am very busy with chestnut harvest now. I suggest you post them to one of several fig groups on Facebook (along with leaf photos and photo of entire tree) or the Ourfigs forum.
Good morning! Do you sell fig seeds. I'm father NATALI'S. FROM BRAZIL, SAO PAULO, TAUBATE. I'm Elias, Jose leite, I like soo much of fig. I plant fig in pot in my house. I would like to have different kinds of figs. Do you help me, PLEASE!
I'm in Sunset zone 14. USDA Hardiness zone 9 doesn't give any information as to how warm your area gets. Some coastal hills in NorCal will be a challenge for many of these but it is still possible as a friend of mine gets fruit from most varieties in Sebastopol.
Absolutely lovely. I have a question though, I recently bought a 'higuara negra' fig tree, that was the name on the tag. I can't find any information online about this one... Is there another name for this variety? Thank you so much.
You don't say where you are from or where you purchased that but I believe the label is a generic one meaning it is a "black fig". That is not a variety name in use that I am aware of.
If you're on Facebook, you might want to reach out to my friend in the UK who has a very good fig collection and can be a good reliable source for you. facebook.com/Vineethvs2210
Our annual cutting sale should start again some time in January 2019. :) Watch our Facebook page for updates and visit the page at www.figaholics.com/cuttings.htm
Dear Harvey. I saw in this video "Bardacik" and "Parlican". I also have these varieties, but there is no blastophagi ... Tell me, does the wasp-blastophagus survive by mail? Thank you.
My top 10 would probably include 50 varieties! 10 large black, 10 striped, 10 medium black, 10 honey type, etc. And it would depend on what I've not eaten recently since I then appreciate those more. Try them all! :)
I grow Sarilop and consider it to be "okay" but not great by any means. I grow many varieties from Turkey. I have a friend here in California who immigrated from Turkey and tasted over 100 varieties of my figs and I made sure he tasted my 10 or so Turkish figs and he laughed and said the Turkish figs were not his favorite. Until you have tasted some of these other varieties you are not in a very good position to pass judgement, I regret to say.

Any chance you still have available cuttings? How much would it cost? I'm in Philippines. email: bluemarlin2004@gmail.com Thank you.
many types of figs that I have never eaten
If only i had the space. I'm up to 20 but if I want more I'd have to secretly plant them on public foot paths in my community.
Do it. Guerilla gardeners are the best. Someone twenty years from now will thank you.
A tree with fruits are good for people and animals

I think for maybe 1-2 weeks some can survive if not too hot during transport
God, why!!! Why would Adam and Eve take a bite of the apple, when figs exist... I am so confused..
Harvey, a best figs list ain't right if it takes almost 9 minutes to review. do an abbreviated post here for your top 10 :-)
My top 10 would probably include 50 varieties! 10 large black, 10 striped, 10 medium black, 10 honey type, etc. And it would depend on what I've not eaten recently since I then appreciate those more. Try them all! :)
