Great video, as always, Ben. Your evaluations will be used for my future reference. My Chicago Hardy, here in Yakima valley (zone 7A), froze to the ground last winter because of below 0 F. temperatures, which aren't really common any more around here, but the new growth managed to start producing ripe figs on Oct. 1, but then it started getting colder and we got our first freeze 3 weeks later. I got to eat a few figs from them, as well as a few from Oregon Prolific, celeste, and LSU Purple. I was disappointed that my Hollier didn't produce any ripe figs, since it is usually my earliest as far as brebas and main crop figs. My in ground figs seem to suffer very little, if any wood damage as long as the temperatures don't fall below +10 F. Below that, then I start seeing some dieback........more on some varieties than others.
heystevo We are in zone 7B and 10 seems to be tipping point for us as well. I only have 3 varieties in the ground. Everything else is happy in our mushroom building.
WOW Ben excellent video, I really like what you've done here, amazing I haven't seen anything like it very interesting loved it! Inregard to the fig in the green house escaping the pot, I have noticed that when fig trees do this it for some reason grows like mad & fig trees seem to enjoy it some how givens them a boost of strength & grow real fast when you let them grow through the pot in my experience.
Hey, thanks for the great video! Which figs have you found most successful outdoors here? I work with a farm on Orcas Island where we tried many different kinds. Desert King is super reliable, but a lot of the others don't really seem to produce much outdoors (at least not every year).
Ben its such a pleasure to watch your videos. I have not been able to find the Florea Fig. Any suggestions? Im also a seattle/woodinville local. Hugs!!
Do you do cuttings? from you figs. I am new to fig's So all I have are Chicago hardy, Black mission, Panache & one I've grown from seed. I have a greenhouse so growing inside is not an issue for me!
Excellent video and I really enjoyed your description of the LSU tiger...after watching this I have been looking up everything I can about the LSU tiger, even bidding on cuttings on eBay in the hopes of having one like yours. The descriptions I keep reading look/sound different though, just curious what features brought you too realize it is the Tiger, and if you're going to sell or trade some cuttings of that one in the future 😎 Thanks for all the excellent fig videos!
What do you think for Celeste, Verte, Negronne, Panache, Martineca Rimada and other rimada's family....? Would be awesome to hear some reviews from you for those varities....
Celeste, I didnt do a video on it but I have a score on my blog for 2017, sweet decent fig to munch on. Panache I cannot ripen here in Seattle, MR is also a tough one to fruit here. Most of the striped figs are tough to fruit here, that's why I want the popone or RDS BV.
Hi Ben, I am actually in hunt of a good fig for OUTDOORS. It will be great if you score them in that subcategory (I believe somebody asked you that before). Also, in terms of tree size, if you have information on size at adult stage. Is there a chance to visit your garden, to take a look at your figs? I live in north Seattle. Thanks
What happened to the Smith fig? I remember you saying how good it is but, that was before the BM... Heard Ross also talk about Smith and how great of a fig it is.
Smith is a great fig, it was one of the figs i kept in the garage. Unfortunately they woke up too soon got real leggy and never fruited. All my garage figs had this issue. There's a garage windows which woke them up too soon
Hey great video.. I bought 6 figs off your maybe 2 years ago, and i tried to add you on Facebook but you denied my request I'm guessing because you didn't remember who I was. My first name is Brett. I will try adding you again in a few days. Top 10 for Seattle would be much better if you only included 100% outdoor in ground fig trees. Just my opinion. Accept my FB request please, I have a few questions about the figs I purchased from you.
yes of course sorry if it was denied for any reason, the group is open to all fig enthusiast. This yr I'm leaving half of my fig trees outside for the winter. It will be survival of the fittest.
Hi, I was on Seattlegarden and would like to buy some cuttings (or can you point me where) cause if I were to trust anyone, who better than you :) Please let me know if its ok. Thank you, Shwet (From Chicago)
You explain the figs in such great detail. You can tell you have a real passion for figs that I appreciate. Great video thanks for sharing.
You are doing a great job. I live in Oregon and it is so nice to have a fellow NW gardener with fig knowledge! I look forward to your 2018 list 😎
I think I'll have 2 categories this yr Brebas and Main crop top 10s
I would like to see the comment (in ground) or (potted) with each fig when you rate.
this is my best video about figs...from the starts to the end
Thanks for this, as a fig newbie this is very helpful! I love your fig scoring method.
Thanks for the great video. Love fig tress for no spraying and no diseases!

Yeah it's like growing them partially in ground with lots more nutrients that they can feed from.

Can you grow LSU tiger in-ground in Portland OR?
Ben its such a pleasure to watch your videos. I have not been able to find the Florea Fig. Any suggestions? Im also a seattle/woodinville local. Hugs!!
Try ourfigs.com there maybe some folks with it. I probably wont have enough wood until another yr or two on my plant to do any cuttings.
Ben I have been trying to find a Black Madeira KK for over a year now. Can you tell me who sells them.
Ben, Will you have any Black Madeira KK fig cutting for sale this winter.
Do you do cuttings? from you figs. I am new to fig's So all I have are Chicago hardy, Black mission, Panache & one I've grown from seed. I have a greenhouse so growing inside is not an issue for me!
Ben, I have 2 fig trees and wanted to start rooting out some cuttings. Can I do this in mid June or will that be a failure.
You can root cuttings all year
Do you sell any cutting? If so I want your top three.
Great video, as always,

Great video clip . Loved it
Did you notice any difference between all the black Madeira’s you grew?
Yes kk is the most productive and reliable

Hi Ben. Great video . I have a quest. I would like to purchase of your top ten fig fruits, just to have taste of the green house figs.
I will probably have a few rooted plants this spring on Ebay or figbid.com

Hi guy, never thought you'd write VNese. I'm growing Black Madeira too, it's 6mo from cuttings and I can't wait for its fruits enough.
What is the difference in taste between Black Madeira and Black Madeira Large? Do these 2 grow well in tropical countries like Malaysia and indonesia?
EC L no difference.
非常非常感谢您。
Great video ben, love it!

Thanks Ben. appreciate all the info. You are awesome.
What about Ronde de bordeaux and Violet de Bordeaux?
click on the link in the description to see their scores
Why do you hype the black Madeira up so much? Kinda makes me frustrated
yeah the prices are getting out of hand
Great video! I have one big fig tree and now you make me interested to explore more. Do you sell any cuttings? I am in Seattle as well.
Well no I-258 i am surprised...
didnt ripen in time for me
It spent more energy growing taller than fruiting this yr.
You must be eating I-258 with fish sauce if you think it's so good
