Great Video! Took me awhile to find what I was looking for because my terminology was wrong. Turns out I was calling fenders "Bumpers" and Bumpers "Fenders". I searched for hull and deck trim also to no avail. I recommend using a blown up parts diagram to get the part terminology right, it will save you time for sure. A few sites have these so you can identify and order parts. In my case... Rough water next to the dock pulled mine off from the top. Tried to force it back on but didn't understand how it went on exactly so I didn't want to go all HULK SMASH on it. Now I know I need to. Thanks for the Video!!!
There have been many 2018 RXPs that have lost their rub rails. My 18 RXP has not had this issue. Maybe they stopped with the excessive glue. Thanks to this video, I'll know what to do. Great video as always.
Hey just found this video was great help, was wondering my front bumper is little loose and wiggles a bit if i apply pressure, you have any tips for that ? Thank you
The bumpers are normally attached with screws that go straight into the fiberglass (i.e. no inserts). They can become loose over time. Try tightening up the screws very carefully so as to not strip the fiberglass. If they won’t tighten, remove the screws and fill the hole with some waterproof epoxy or equivalent. Drill it out and put the screw back in.
I’m not sure. The only point we are trying to make is that the integrity of the bumper shouldn’t depend on double-sided sticky tape. I would advise anyone with a machine made in Mexico to check to see if the bumpers are correctly installed, and that they don’t have excessive glue preventing proper adhesion. Good luck.
@@3ftDeepChannel I was asking about the fish bro because I was thinking about adding some PWC collars to give extra stability in certain cases. If it was stuck on with adhesive that would be a deal-breaker
I live in Vancouver WA, do you have any recommendations for service techs down here? Also do you use fenders? I scuffed my jet ski pretty bad and will need to get it fixed.
Whenever we moor at a dock for any length of time we use fenders. The docks can do a lot of damage to these machines as they are quite a bit lower than most boats. Unfortunately, we don’t know of any good technicians south of the border, so we suggest sticking with a dealer until you can find one. Good luck.
Hey! I was Just wondering what double sided tape you used to replace the old tape, and where you got it from? I popped my rail off moving the ski on the cart in the garage anyhow thanks!
I used some 3M double-sided sticky tape from Home Depot. But essentially, you want to use the thinnest and narrowest tape you can find. You don’t want it to be too thick. Good luck.
Warning/Caution: when using the heat gun while the bumper piece is pressed onto (or forced onto) the vessel, by "relaxing" the bumper you will likely also relax its main holding properties, that is, the lower and upper connection points. By relaxing the middle of the bumper you will permit the dimensions of the bumper to stretch out of specifications. On my 2019 GTI the measurement from the top to bottom of the bumper should be about 2 3/8 inches, or less. After I applied heat, the measurement expanded to over 2 1/2. This may not seem like much, but it is the elastic property of the bumper that causes it to "snap" into position when you install it, which means, while the bumper is cool it must be in such a form that it has to temporarily stretch vertically when installing on the vessel. With a measurement of 2 1/2 it was wider than spec and did not require any stretch to fit over the connection path, and thus no beneficial "snap" into place. To fix the problem I removed the bumper and positioned it in a jig to squeze it together from top to bottom and then applying heat (you need not do the entire piece at once, I did 2 feet at a time). [Note: you'll know you've reformed the dimension when the bumper lossens in the jig while applying heat]. Allow the piece to cool in the jig before removing, repositioning, or installing on the vessel. It must be cool in order to exhibit the elastic properties needed to "snap" into position. [Note: when warmed to a reformable state the bumper material exhibits properties more like a rubber squegee or windshield wiper blade]. I hope this info helps someone. After wrestling with my bumper for hours, this was the final try before I gave up and bought a new piece. The sweet sound of the "snap" was music to my ears. 😀
Thanks for sharing this. Our heating process was such that it held on the top and bottom groove. Too bad it didn’t work out for you and you had to buy a new piece.
My 2019 rxpx has that issues. I've tried remounting and using heat gun to make it grip tighter but still slightly coming off. Garbage quality control by seadoo
That’s terrible. If you do end up replacing the bumper, remember to remove all of the excess glue that prevented it from looking on properly in the first place. Good luck.
I 'll bet he has the same issue. It really is inexcusable, as the glue prevents the rub rail from fitting properly in the first place. The assembly workers would have known.
Agreed! And that's my polite response. My opinion during our vacation when the bumper of my 2-year old machine was hanging off (and wouldn't pop back on) was a lot nastier.

Excellent video! Thx so much for posting.
Will use it to replace both rub rails on my 2012 GTI 130
Thanks, and good luck!
You can bet this is the only video of its kind out there. What’s a good great work at 3 feet deep.
Thanks, Kevin!

Thanks for your comment, Tracy.
Do you ever intend on doing a video on how to install a 2nd battery? Your vids is so well made and great instructions!
No intent at this point. There hasn't been a need so far. Thanks for the kind words, though.

Thanks for your great videos...please keep them coming!
Thanks, Galileo. I didn’t realize you were still alive.
Enjoyed seeing what problems encountered on way to fixing. Does the fishpro use the double sided tape too?

No, the bumpers normally clip on and are pretty secure. They have to withstand the upward force of the waves which can be pretty extreme.
Great advice and video as always......of all the things in my backup kit....double sided tape isn’t one of them.....good idea
Thanks, Chris!
muchas gracias. well done.
Gracias!
How thick is the factory mounting tape? Looks like maybe 1/4"?
It was about a quarter inch wide, but very thin and difficult to remove.

Quick question. Do you know if you order one online does it matter what side or does one fit either side?
It’s hard to say. Use the parts catalogue on Sea-Doos website to figure out what the correct one is for your model. Good luck.
Big thank you !!! I have the same issue on my 2019 RXP-300
Glad we could help.
What glue and where do you buy???
We use double sided tape with a foam core. You can get it from a local hardware store.

@@3ftDeepChannel I wrote that poorly. The reforming worked, so I didn’t need to buy a piece. What I meant was, had it not worked, I was ready to buy.
