The Gulf War began on August 2, 1990 and concluded on February 28, 1991 after 1,000 hours of war in the air and 100 hours of fighting on the ground. 35 nations, led by the USA, had defeated Iraq, which was armed with one of the largest armies on the planet. I find it hilarious that the USA first funded said regime to depose of a democratic elected government that didn't like them, then when they couldn't control it anymore, the regime was suddenly the bad guy.
But that story repeats itself across the middle east. With the US of fucking A always being the one that funded one regime to attack another regime and than backstabbing their originally funded regime.

Now the regime fell because the people didn't want to be opressed anymore and united behind a religious leader, which wasn't supportive of the USA.
Then the USA funded a neighbouring not religious regime to fight the religious one.
Promising them that any oil they find would be conveniently be left to this non religious regime.
Now this regime couldn't advance because the religious one defended itself heavily for eight years. Thats the golf war.
And instead of losing more manpower the non religious regime turns around and fights Kuwait, because thats easier and they also have oil.
As soon as they did that they were suddenly the bad guy and possibly had atom weapons.
Problem is if they really had those the USA wouldn't be attacking them.

If you're looking forward to making more songs of the post-ww2 era you should definitely check the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Truly a complicated conflict with many incredible stories.
Like when a single Greek commando from Crete,Manolis Bilakis, repelled a Turkish tank company(at least 8 tanks but they probably had more)supported by a whole infantry battalion with just his PAO and 8 missiles for it. He had been separated from his comrade after an aerial strike who reported him dead. With no reinforcements coming and no way to come back to his unit he stayed in his position and faught the Turks. He destroyed 6 tanks with 6 shots and when the Turkish battalion supporting the tanks tried to retreat to a nearby house,Bikakis spotted them and attacked. With his remaining two missiles he caused hundreds of casualties and forced the rest to flee, thus preventing an incirclement of Nicosia(the capital)which the Turks were close to achieving. But he still was separated from his unit and now he was out of ammunition,so naturally he started walking around the island with an empty PAO for 4 days trying to find his unit. No one dared attack him. He came back to his unit and continued fighting until the end. The invasion as a whole wasn't repelled but it could have gone much worse without his contribution.
Unfortunately he wasn't awarded any military honors before his death but he was after he died. To this day he is a Greek military hero and has earned the nickname "the Greek rambo"

      Copied from my second comment:
For those interested, a little background information:
The Gulf War began with Iraq's annexation of Kuwait. A coalition fought against Iraq and the government of Kuwait controlled by it, which included The United States, Great Britain, France, as well as some former allies of the USSR, and was even supported by the Soviet Union, which was then on the verge of collapse.
So, after the events of August 2-3, 1990, during which Kuwait was occupied by the Iraqi army, and the ruler of the country and the remnants of the army fled to Saudi Arabia, the UN adopted resolutions 680 and 681, demanded the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and the restoration of the country's sovereignty, and also imposed a complete embargo on Iraq. Despite this, the Iraqi authorities ignored the demand.
Soon, after vain attempts to force Iraq to comply with the adoption of resolution number 688, an ultimatum was put forward to Iraq: they were given a month and a half to withdraw troops. 30 November, Iraq rejected the ultimatum. This was the starting point for the start of Operation Desert Storm.
On January 17, 1991, the troops of the international coalition launched an operation to liberate Kuwait. On February 24 of the same year, Kuwait was liberated and restored as a sovereign state, and on February 28 a ceasefire was announced.
The failure of the Iraqi army is often explained by the fact that the forces of the multinational coalition struck not in the direction of Kuwait near the coastline, but to the west, in the desert on the border with Saudi Arabia.
Coalition losses, according to general data, did not exceed 25,000 people wounded and killed, while Iraqi losses, declared by the country's minister of war, amounted to about 20,000 killed and 60,000 wounded. (Western media, shortly thereafter, stated larger numbers, up to 200,000 total casualties)
The consequences of the war were numerous uprisings in the northern territories of Iraq, the country suffered heavy economic losses, and under Resolution 687, many chemical weapons have been destroyed.
Since 1991, February 26 of each year is celebrated in Kuwait as the day of liberation from Iraqi occupation.

Hello Sabaton, my father and I are big fans of your work from Colombia, we love your music and you have become our favorite band for your lyrics, melodies and historical material. I would like to tell you a story that would be great for a song and who better than you.
This story dates back to the year 1952 in the Korean War and takes place in the 5th battle of Montecalvo where Colombia took over from the United States and South Korea against China and North Korea. Colombia was the only Latin American country that supported South Korea by sending 3 frigates and a group of soldiers which was called the "Colombia battalion".
In Montecalvo, after several hours of fighting, the Colombian soldiers ran out of ammunition while many were panicking. Many others remembered the phrase "we ran out of options" and thus they fell to the ground, pretending to be dead, for when the Chinese passed by, they rose to fight. Melee with machetes (a tool similar to a knife but not long used to cut brush in Colombian fields) and bayonets, the Chinese fled when they saw such an offensive and thus the Colombian battalion managed to successfully defend Montecalvo giving South Korea a great advantage by which from that moment South Korea pays tribute to Colombia and even founded a park in which there is a statue in honor of Colombian soldiers.
Due to their bravery and way of fighting they were nicknamed "the demons of the trenches" and every July 20 in the colonbian independence parade they are remembered and commemorated.
i hope You read this and thanks for your amazing music.

Pfff ..Second Gulf War....Call it what it is. Invasion of Iraq. Justified on lies. You got rid of Sadam and that screwed over the Middle East badly. Our democracy doesn't work on places that for at least 4 centuries were led by a central figurehead or have no value of the capital or need to control the city and urban elements. Iraq and Afghanistan showed it well. Sadam was a butcher and a horrible excuse of a human but he kept Iraq in check. Without him it became a breeding ground for ISIS, which was an even bigger issue than it is now and had the opportunity of a lifetime to expand . And by losing Sadam we lost someone who could be at Iran's neck due to bad blood to keep them reasonable. Now they are getting more and more pushy without him.

I got an idea for a topic song if you guys are interested or not but how about a song about the 422nd Us japanese infantry regiment that fought agaist the germans and charged at them while shouting BANZAI in France, Italy, and Germany. Alsobthe most decrated regiment of WW2. Just an idea.
