========= Wehrmacht LYRICS ==========
Pulled into war to serve a vision that’s supposed to last a thousand years
Part of a machine unstoppable, as merciless as tidal waves
Were they the victims of the time, or proud parts of larger goals?
Propaganda of the Reich, masterful machine
Time and again the battle rages on beyond the gates of misery
As casualties rise and millions die around them did they see it all?
Crazy madmen on a leash, or young men who lost their way?
Grand illusions of the Reich may seem real at times
Panzers on a line form the Wehrmacht’s spine
Lethal grand design
What about the men executing orders?
Ad victoriam
Ex machina
Non sibi sed patriae
Pulled into war to serve a vision that just didn’t last a thousand years
Part of a machine, though stoppable, as merciless as tidal waves

Oh the misery
AS CASUALTIES RISE
Hi, not sure if this will reach the band or not, but I wrote a fantasy book which partly follows the difficulty of leadership and conducting war on a major scale.
While many of the more intense battles and moments were written while listening to metal. The song Wolfpack actually inspired its own add-on entirely, "Battle of the Fog." Two advanced, well equiped, and well armored steam ships are targeted by a sail driven dreadnought and a litter of smaller vessels. The latter group has planning, numbers and the night on thier side. The entire story follows the steamship's bridge crew and one of her gun turret crews.
At the end of the add on I wanted to give credit to the song and to Sabaton for creating it. The book it will be published, just like it's predecessor.
I have read up on the origional skirmish that Wolfpack was about and I did not want to offend, so I would like to mention it now...
and say thank you for the inspiration!
please make a song for armistice day or remembrance day in honor of the soldiers that came before us please because i like history and i am a fan of your music

For those wondering the Latin words mean "Victory of the Machine, Not for Himself but for his Country."
@@luismuller5693 You are correct. But now you don't have to. Kind of a weird thing to pick a fight over but you do you man.
thats correct in english, but translated from "latin to german" it means:
until victory, with the help of the machine, not for you but for the fatherland.
I find the differences between the languages quite amusing.
I thought the most direct was, to victory, out of the machine, not for self but for country.
To English as sibi itself is neutral if I remember as it can also refer to neuter. I also have never seen sibae.
@@nobodyforsure38 but you translated it into German and then to English, kind of going to distort the tradition when you can directly translate to English instead of to German then to English. I wonder what it translated to Swedish is?

WHAT ABOUT THE MEN EXECUTING ORDERS?
What I find so compelling about this song is that the chorus so vividly paints the message of the entire song. As the booming voices of propaganda shout at us the image that the high command wanted us to see “Panzers on a line, form the Wehrmacht’s spine” it drowns out the singer who says “what about the men executing orders?”. It’s like the singer asks “what of the men?” And the shouting voice of propaganda is to say “don’t think of the men. Think of the machine. Think of the mighty panzer. Think of the image. Think of the vision. Think of the goal. The men are only parts of that.” And yet the singer still proclaims: “what about the men?”.

@@Hilversumborn yeah.
I love how they don't really paint one side as heroes and the other as villains (with the exceptions of rise of evil and In The Name Of God, then they DEFINITELY take sides) they just sing about history, usually events or individuals who are virtually unknown!
@@mikewhicker9771 sorry whoever this offends, but the lyrics of this song could also apply to what’s going on in Eastern Europe right now. And, just like the Wehrmacht, one side is being portrayed as “all evil” and the other (ironically, the one who actually has national socialists among them) is portrayed as “all good”.
Not to get into the nitty gritty details, but it kind of makes these words hollow, doesn’t it?

This song is one of the best of Sabaton’s, partly because of the beautiful symbolism in the lyrics, debating on if the German soldiers were doing it because they could or if they were misled. Amazing song!

The last day of ww1 was the first day of ww2. The Treaty of Versailles destroyed Germany... blame WW2 on how the Allies graped Germany after WW1.

A looser interpretation, closer to what this verse is supposed to convey. World War II is the first war with overwhelming mechanization of every aspect, every branch used some form of mechanized transport or weapon system. And especially the Germans were at the forefront of technological advancement in combat, so while this line could be generalized for all nations that participated, it could just as well be considered to be one dedicated to the Germans alone.

I'd look Into the calorus rex album. My personal favorite. Listen from start to finish, it's tells the tale os the Swedish empire ending with its downfall. Amazing album
This might be a place as good as any other to write this down: My great grandfather (the biological father of my grandma) fought in the Wehrmacht as many German men did. He wrote a lot of letters home and man Grandma still has a lot of them. In the fist years of the war he was a part of the coccupying force in France. He loved photography, and send a lot of pictures, so the letters read basically like a big adventurious vacation. He never was a full convinced Fascist but he war very patriotic, loved the uniforms, the comradery and showing off for the girls.
In the later years of the war, he was re-deployed to the Eastern front, where he saw (and let's be honest also did) a lot of messy shit. My Grandma keeps this part of the letters always very close hidden and doesn't like to show them around. In 1944, in one of the most impressive passages he writes: "I pray, the Germany wins this war. Because if we lose, they will take revenge on us. I know, what we have done, they have every right to hate and noone will be able to protect you fro their rightious anger, if we los." He was killed soon after and never returned home. It haunts me till this day.
He was a controversial man in an problematic time but in this passage, I feel so much for him. I am happy and greatful for two things: For the fact that Germany lost and is a free country today and for the fact, that my great grandfather was wrong and the world forgave us. R.I.P Great Grandpa Bruno.
Well... I mean forgive is a strong word... I mean East & West Germany didn't spawn from thin air you know
The world has very clearly not forgiven Germany, nor does Germany look like a free country. Self-hatred seems to be ingrained into their citizens. A German who isn’t ashamed of themselves is assumed to be a Nazi. They’ve given their culture away to a people who will never respect them and their citizens freeze in unheated homes because they chose to rely on Russia for energy because a little autistic girl was told the world would end from fossil fuels.
@@abcdefghij337 Wow...man...what was that? Did you Put all your favorite fashy talking points in a blender? "We keep buying fossil-fuels from Russia because we listen to Greta Thunberg who told US specifically not to do it and now we are freezing because we are buying them." is certainly a take If I have seen one. Is it Schrödingers Fossil-Gas? We buy it and we don't buy it?
Have you learned what happened to the German people after 45 ? They paid for what the army did, and paid a very high price, especially during the Soviet occupation. I'm french and yet, at school, I didn't understand why to humiliate people like that because of the government. Then, I recently read about rapes in Germany, that just broke my heart.
By far one of my favorite sabaton songs please keep making music love you so much!
Sabaton needs to write a song about the chernobyl liquidators. Those guys *literally* saved most of Europe from annihilation. Without them, European history would've never continued.
They saved a large part of history, in a way.
It'll be a good idea, but they sing about war, so...
@@Alex-yg5bj you could say the chernobyl disaster was a WAR AGAINST OURSELVES :D
@@scottishbananaclan hah, nice joke xD btw all USSR actions was a war against themselves :)
@@Alex-yg5bj, Eh I think we can give it a exception, given how terrifying radiation poisoning is and how they went in regardless.
I could see it as a bonus track
Everything is fine in this song. Powerful guitar beats at the beginning, which personify the power of the Wehrmacht, with which he marched through Europe and the USSR. Couplets that are reflections of a simple, sober-minded person about the Wehrmacht and the propaganda of the Third Reich. The refrain, where those very reflections are drowned out by propaganda cries about the power of German tanks and only a person asks a question about ordinary soldiers, propaganda again bends its line. It's hard to believe that all this was transmitted through a 4-minute song. Sabaton - you are geniuses!
I always loved the insane brutality put into the main chorus, a momentum contrasted by a much more subtle message. It's simple, but still somehow nuanced. That means you can listen to it for both the lyrics as well as the sound alone. A perfect storm, really.
This is officially my favourite Sabaton song!
Это великолепно!💪
Как всегда круто
I just love how it subtly changes from "Unstoppable" to "Though stoppable".
Also from "pulled into war to serve a vision that's supposed to last a thousand years" to "pulled into war to serve a vision that just didn't last a thousand years"
@@josu-ni2fx Yeah. The subtle changes in this one are gold.

I like how there are two parts, the more "mechanical" and powerful part about panzers, the grand design and "ad victoriam, ex machinam, non sibi sed, patriae (to victory, using machines, not for yourself, but for the fatherland", and the other, more "reasonable" part worried about young men tricked into believing in the plan, by the propaganda and lies. I think this perfectly illustrates how the Wehrmacht worked, thank you for this amazing song.
Honestly, Coat Of Arms is one of my favorite Sabaton album's. You guys never disappoint!
"Panzers on a line form the Wehrmacht's spine" always grabs me. Ja, ja, wir Deutschen und unsere Panzer... But seriously. A great song with a heavy background. I just say: "Part of a machine, unstoppable, as merciless as tidel waves." This is what it feels like to be part of a machinery of destruction. I am not defending anything here. I'm just saying that as a German today, I would never want to be part of such a system again. And it's good to remember that through Sabaton songs.
As a Polish Jew im glad that you all are good now lol
The biggest trajedy is that Admiral Canaris wasn't successful, and Roosevelt wanted German blood. I used to be a fan of Roosevelt, his character and his audacity, but when I learned that he hated Germany, demanded unconditional surrender, and refused to work with the one man who had the best chance at stopping the Nazi party from the inside, I can't look at him in the same light anymore.
Roosevelt, and to a lesser extent Churchill, caused and needlessly prolonged WWII, and lead to the destruction of Germany for decades. Patton was right, we fought the wrong enemy.
Some day, you will…
@@MnemonicHack We didn't fight the wrong enemy,we just left one standing.
@@MnemonicHackAmerican man finds out there are no good sides in war and all politicians have a dark side.
something I realised about too lyrics in particular show how it was early war and late war.
"unstoppable, As merciles as, tidal waves"
then later in the song
"Though stoppable, As merciles as, Tidal waves
yess, also at the start the lyrics are "pulled into war to serve a vision that's supposed to last a thousand years" and at the end it becomes "pulled into war to serve a vision that just did not last a thousand years", just goes to show Sabaton's incredible attention to detail :)))
It perfectly portrays the fact that the German high command didn’t care about the soldiers, they cared about how they looked as an opposing force (1:48) „What about the men executing ord- PANZERS ON A LINE, FORM THE WEHRMACHT‘S SPINE! LETHAL GRAND DESIGN!“. The question is drowned out by the propaganda that the 3rd reicht was throwing out. the soldiers and their condition was never acknowledged by high command, only how fierce they looked and acted.
I love that sabaton celebrates both sides of wars
Thank you Sabaton for all these years, your music was one of the few things that made me feel happy. Love
Thank you very much for your message 🤘🏼
Sabaton can be described in 4 words. “Perfect in every way”
This is by far one of my favorite songs for the rhythm, the lyrics, the rifs everything just screams power and emotion
This and The Last Battle were my first songs that I had listened of Sabaton. What an amazing piece of art 🖤
One of my absolute favorites in Coat of Arms, seriusly this is an masterpiece
@@waffer_lovers622 I don't think money is the issue, but time. Animations are incredibly time consuming. I agree with you. It would be cool to see more animations
I honestly love how melancholy the guitar sounds at 1:26 and 2:18. It suits the dark meaning of this song very well imo.
Yay, i wait remake so long.
Thank you Sabaton!
After hearing the speeches from the man with the funny lip fuzz, one would presume that fuzzy lips' oratory skills lead those to believe his butter smooth honeyed words to be true. Now how hard core was a soldier, one can't know for certain, as war really changes a man once they have served. Having relatives who have served in WW2 and there experiences of being either an early enlistee, being a British or French trained pilot or an average enlistee Screaming Eagle, war changed them from what they where in the beginning. Since there are fewer WW2 remaining veterans, we'll rarely know the truest extent of what hell they had gone through on both sides of the conflict.
Literally your most underrated song! Absolutely love this song.
This is the first time I heard this song. I'll say this much...I love it. There are also a great deal of interpretations within song.
the question this song makes about the nature of the soldiers make it one of the best simply for its message
song needs more recognition!
Well I made an AMV with it
I have been WAITING for this, and it finally came.
Godspeed Sabaton.
the beginning instrumental bit is my ringtone, still has me vibing after 5 years
