VKunia, in case you didn't know, there were some jokes making fun of the James Bond franchise. The extremely hairy chest on Austin Powers is making fun of Sean Connery. The big Asian assassin is from Goldfinger, except he used his hat instead of his shoe. Frau Farbissina is a parody of that Soviet agent in From Russia With Love. Alotta Fagina is a joke on those names the Bond women were given. One of them was called Pussy Galore. Bond always scored with numerous women. One of those Bond movies (I can't remember which one, but Roger Moore was in it) he was laying so many women that I started laughing after a while. When AIDS started getting people's attention, they pared down on a lot of James Bond's screwing around.
Most of the references come from the James Bond films from the beginning of the franchise with Sean Connery as 007 through to the beginning of the Pierce Brosnan's era as 007 in the 1990s. A few that are really important: - Alotta Fagina: the name is based on the character Pussy Galore, played by Honor Blackman, in 1963's Goldfinger. - Random Task: based almost completely on Odd Job, henchman to Auric Goldfinger, the villain of Goldfinger. Instead of a shoe, Odd Job threw a Bowler hat with a razor in the brim. - Number Two: Played by Robert Wagner, the look of the character is based on Emilio Largo in Thunderball (1965). Largo was number 2 in the organization called SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Counter Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion), a frequent nemesis of Bond's. - Dr. Evil: Based in part on Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Bond's archnemesis in several films. However the look of Dr. Evil is partially on Blofeld (bald and facially scarred) and partly on another Bond villain, the title character of Dr. No (1962). The rubber radiation suit is Dr. No. The gray Nehru suit that Dr. Evil wears is the same outfit both Blofeld and Dr. No wore. - Austin Powers: Partially based on Bond, with other spy characters of the 1960s thrown in. Harry Palmer (played by Michael Caine) was a spy who wore thick black rimmed glasses from a series of films based on Len Deighton novels. This is kind of important as Michael Caine shows up in the third Austin Powers film, Goldmember. Matt Helm (played by actor-singer Dean Martin) was a photographer, and like Bond always a hit with the ladies, in several films. - Vanessa Kensington and Mrs. Kensington: Both characters owe a lot to two different characters from the 1960s BBC spy series, The Avengers. The first character is mainly, Mrs. Emma Peel, played by the late Dame Diana Rigg (best known today as Lady Olenna Tyrell from Game of Thrones). Mrs. Peel frequently wore leather catsuits, kicked ass in hand-to-hand combat, and used guns...and looked beautiful always. Brains, beauty, and ability. The second character was Cathy Gale, Mrs. Peel's predecessor on the show. Also, a combination of amazing qualities. Honor Blackman, who played Cathy Gale, was also Pussy Galore in Goldfinger opposite Sean Connery. Diana Rigg, after playing Mrs. Peel, played Contessa Teresa "Tracy" DiVincenzo in 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service opposite George Lazenby as 007 (his only appearance in the role).

Austin is supposed to be known for being a photographer rather than a known spy. That's his cover. Though they quickly kind of drop that, and have the "Famous spy" trope. I mean how do you explain a famous photographer reappearing at the same age 40 years later. But it's really just one of those things you just go along with.
Most people know that Dr. Evil's appearance is based on James Bond's nemesis Blofeld. But far fewer know that Dr. Evil's voice is based on Mike Myers' old boss Lorne Michaels.
Random Task is based off of Oddjob (similar names), Oddjob threw a hat with a metal brim that cut the head off a statue where Random Task throws a shoe. They also look pretty similar
It's one big spoof of James Bond, I'd say Sean Connery especially. 5:23 Maybe didn't mean to, but that was the best part. 13:58 All that "how can she stand him?" and then "I love him". 27:43 That's super easy, even having both facing each other. You just set like a middle point in the shot that he doesn't cross, have him record the character on one side, then on the other and put paste them together. And, of course, he's got actual people reading the other charater's lines while filming as a placeholder. Well, fun fact is if you go watch the first Bonds you will see so many "Oh, that's the thing they're making fun of".
Mike Myers dad was English, Austin was the impression he did of his dad. Dr Evil is his impression of Lorne Michaels, who runs SNL, Myers refused to put Dr Evil on SNL because he wanted to keep the character for a film, he did return to SNL for the 40th season and did Dr Evil on SNL for the occasion (Prince played the after party).

"That was such a short movie..." kind of got me, because if I'm not mistaken movies generally used to be almost always 1,5 - 2 hours, all original star wars movies are almost exactly 2 hours if I remember correctly, newer ones are roughly 20-30 minutes longer. Nowadays movies are about 2,5h long or if it is a Nolan movie it is most likely 3 hours so they should have some bathroom brakes and you need to clear your calendar for the evening if you go to a cinema. Personally I liked the shorter movies because you didn't get fatigued by sitting so easily and the snacks would last better throughout the movie, although I see the value of longer movies in some cases, but I also feel that the more limited run time of shorter makes the pacing usually better because the story needs to be told in a shorter amount of time, which leaves unnecessary scenes usually on the cutting room floor.
Nineties comedies are absolutely amazing. We had it so good back then. And this movie is so friggin' quotable. I still watch this one from time to time. Of course the whole series is a spoof on the spy genre, specifically Bond, which makes it even funnier.
I _think_ the idea is that Austin Powers is officially a super famous... _photographer._ Just like James Bond has a standing cover of a banker, but considering that bankers tend to not be, well, _famous_ it's not as big a deal that he often has a cover as something else. Depending on the place in the series his rank in the Royal Navy is either secret or public record, too, though I THINK that he's thought to be retired at least as far as public records go.

So many references to classic James Bond films. Dr.Evil killing his own operative at the table with the push of a button is from Thunderball. Dr. Evil's look is based on Blofeld from You Only Live Twice. Random Task is based on Odd Job from Goldfinger. The cart Austin gets stuck is from Moonraker. Dr.Evil's radiation suit is from Dr.No. Other 60s spy films and TV shows are referenced. The distinct red phone ring is from Our Man Flint. The Fembots are from Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs. The machine gun bra is from The Tenth Victim. Mimi Rogers dresses like Emma Peel from The Avengers (no, not those Avengers). The song "The Look of Love" is from the 1967 version of Casino Royale.

Looks like you saw the edited version? In the original there are more scenes, (mainly regarding the personal lives of guard that gets flattened and the guard that gets eaten by the sea bass) whenever it's on TV it's mainly the edited version but it just feels incomplete after watching the full version
The Austin Power movies are tributes to the Sean Connery Bond movies, plus the American super spy film version of James Bond: Derick Flint in 'Our Man Flint' and 'In Like Flint' (which Austin says is his favorite movie) and also the secret agent Matt Helm movies. Actor James Coburn played Derick Flint in two movies and singer/actor/comedian Dean Martin played Matt Helm in four movies. Derick Flint was a Judo and Karate expert. Matt Helm was supposed to be a famous photographer as a cover to his secret agent status. He often had the female lead play his wife during undercover missions. The Matt Helm and Derick Flint movies had lots of ladies in unusual roles for the time. Fembots were introduced in a 1970s TV series called The Bionic Woman, a spin off of The Bionic Man.
27:45 Disney did it in The Parent Trap (1961) with Hayley Mills standing next to herself. So it is tricks thay have existed before CGI magic in movies. Random trivia about Random Task: in 2011, the actor who played Random Task was arrested and convicted of raping and torturing a woman. Just one month after starting his prison sentence, he killed his cellmate.
The answer to your natural questions about what is with all the weird, and over-the-top goings on, is that they are themes and tropes from the Secret Agent film craze of the 60s.. The O.G. of which are, of course, the Bond films.
Have you seen any of the James Bond films? There’s a lot of Bond parodies in the Austin Powers films. For example, Alotta Fagina is a take on the fact that a lot of Bond girls have names like Pussy Galore and Honey Rider, the second AP film is called The Spy Who Shagged me is a take on the Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me and Random Task is a parody of a Bond henchman called Oddjob who throws his bowler hat Also, the group councillor in this film is the late, great Carrie Fisher
Here's a fun fact (if someone said this already, don't hate): Random-Task was based on a James Bond villain. He's the Asian guy with the suit and hat. The OG character was named "Oddjob", and he appeared in the old movie "Goldfinger". His design is pretty much identical, except his gimmick was to throw his hat like a frisbee, and it had a razor-sharp blade around the liner that could instantly decapitate victims.
7:50 This particular villain is based on a villain from the Bond series named Oddjob. He decapitated people by throwing a hat with a sharp edge concealed in its brim. That's the joke they're making.

An evil petting zoo just has canadian geese.
Snorting Laughs are the best, i find them super cute!
An evil petting zoo is a petting zoo full of animals with rabies.
Ok, that IS really evil.
19:05 Mama Cass died of a heart attack at the age of 32 but there is a legend (likely related to her size frankly) that she choked to death on a ham sandwich.
Vkunia gifting us with an Austin Powers reaction! Groovy baby! Yeah! 😁
I have to say, that orange color looks great on you V.
As VKunia likes doing cosplay, all I could think of was Velma from Scooby Doo (I'll keep my fingers crossed).
24:07 Don't worry, judo chops aren't real. All throws and submissions.
This movie is gold! I remember bursting in laughter when I went to go see it in theaters. You’re gonna have a great time with this one VKunia !
Wow that's a comprehensive rundown! Thank you
@@hansachter5657 probably a lot more. Unmasking a man dressed as a woman is from Thunderball.
@@richardb6260 what about putting his pinky up to his mouth when he wants to be dramatic?
@@hansachter5657 don't know where that's from. I know the voice is based on SNL producer Lorne Michaels. But I don't think that's one of his mannerisms
@@richardb6260 lol who knows what goes on backstage
“Put it in the schkin box, schave me from myschelf. I’m peeeeling.”
18:39 😄Oh, you've got to love fish-out-of-water humor.
Looks like you saw the edited version? In the original there are more scenes, (mainly regarding the personal lives of guard that gets flattened and the guard that gets eaten by the sea bass) whenever it's on TV it's mainly the edited version but it just feels incomplete after watching the full version
24:00 Open the FRICKIN' DOOR!
27:10 🎵 AUSTIN POWERS 🎵
Random task=Oddjob😂😂😂
Ive watched this so many times as a kid and I only got that joke😂
“People look different, you can see lights in people’s eyes”
Things have become so depressing that the light has gone away from people’s eyes
agree im 40 and i can relate, 90s were awesome
God, I'm so glad you got the macarena joke. I've seen it go over the heads of so many reactors...;)
Taking the mickey out of Liberace didn't get a flicker though!
“How dare you break wind before me?”
“Sorry, baby. I didn’t know it was your turn.”
By far, the best line in the movie.
The even Austin Powers understands consent scene aged very well.
It’s too bad you didn’t see any of the *James Bond* films from the *60s* for the jokes and references to hit even harder. 🍸
2:05 Yes, he shouldn't be famous but Austin Powers is basically a caricature of James Bond who wasn't precisely discreet...
He mostly introduced himself using his real name. “Bond. James Bond.” Not really what a secret agent should do.
Nobody gonna mention Carrie Fisher as the Group Therapist?
Best Carrie Fisher cameo is in Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back.
The Austin Powers movies are peak comedy, especially the shadow scenes in 2 and 3. Cry laughing every single time.
I watched this trilogy countless times as a kid, a nice nostalgic soft spot for me
By "carnies", it is implied he is referring to dwarves. The "smells of cabbage" line will be referenced in a later movie.
That was indeed Will Ferrell.
27:45 Disney did it in The Parent Trap (1961) with Hayley Mills standing next to herself. So it is tricks thay have existed before CGI magic in movies.
I remember the first time seeing this movie in my floormate's dormroom. She said let's watch a movie (old VHS) and ordered some pizza nuggets and watched on a small 15 inch TV.
I remember seeing this in the theater when I was in high school. So hilarious at the time and surprisingly it holds up better than I thought it would.
Im just now noticing that scene where they show that Colorado military base going into the 1997 scene is really, Cheyenne moutain complex military base, the same location where the show stargate sg-1 was filmed and based out of.
Random trivia about Random Task: in 2011, the actor who played Random Task was arrested and convicted of raping and torturing a woman. Just one month after starting his prison sentence, he killed his cellmate.
24:45 i was so surprised to find such a gem of a worldview in this raunchy ass comedy but i really think its perfect
The answer to your natural questions about what is with all the weird, and over-the-top goings on, is that they are themes and tropes from the Secret Agent film craze of the 60s.. The O.G. of which are, of course, the Bond films.
Fun Fact: The 90's were awesome.
much better than after 2010 sucks
That therapist @17:25 was played by Carrie Fisher, AKA Princess Leia.
Have you seen any of the James Bond films? There’s a lot of Bond parodies in the Austin Powers films. For example, Alotta Fagina is a take on the fact that a lot of Bond girls have names like Pussy Galore and Honey Rider, the second AP film is called The Spy Who Shagged me is a take on the Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me and Random Task is a parody of a Bond henchman called Oddjob who throws his bowler hat
Also, the group councillor in this film is the late, great Carrie Fisher
Here's a fun fact (if someone said this already, don't hate): Random-Task was based on a James Bond villain. He's the Asian guy with the suit and hat. The OG character was named "Oddjob", and he appeared in the old movie "Goldfinger". His design is pretty much identical, except his gimmick was to throw his hat like a frisbee, and it had a razor-sharp blade around the liner that could instantly decapitate victims.
This franchise is simply brilliant!
'Random Task' was a spoof of the James Bond villain 'Odd Job' who would throw his razor edged hat to kill people.
Light in peoples eyes, thats just the 90's. Man the 90's was such a good time to be alive.
I love Mike Myers so much. The movies in this trilogy are go-to comfort movie for me. Loved watching your reaction as always.
HE...UNDERSTANDS...CONSENT!
My cats middle name is Bigglesworth
"There's light in people's eyes". Ouch, Vicky. Ouch.
7:50 This particular villain is based on a villain from the Bond series named Oddjob. He decapitated people by throwing a hat with a sharp edge concealed in its brim. That's the joke they're making.
