    thought I was hearing the train out behind me and then him saying "oh there's a train" I'm like wtf!?
    But in all seriousness, this has been SUPER helpful. I would have never once on my own considered the method of using opposite colors to add shadows but rather just following the color wheel. This makes a HUGE difference, tysm!

    This video has been extremely helpful! I am beginner at painting and shading has gotten me really confused. When you talked about putting in the shadows you said to put in the base color, then re add the tones and fine details. This I never fully understood until I watched your video and followed along. Then it all clicked.

    Curious...How do you really know the 'local' color of something, if its definition is w/out light or shadow? Guess? Also, when you got more saturated, what dictated that? It was not explained.

    Hi, your channel is (thankfully) pretty big with many videos, so my question has probably been answered somewhere, but it's super difficult to search for so.
    How did traditional animators deal with timing/exposure sheets without digital tools, during the drawing of the frames?
    What I mean is. In pretty much all digital packages, the timing is usually married to the drawings because every drawing gets put on a timeline, wheras in traditonal animation, you had your animators table with your pegbar and your stack of paper, no timing on a timeline.
    Just you and the sheets of paper.
    Did y'all just draw all the frames anyway, without any timing (although of course animation was timed out with stopwatches and written down in charts)?
    I know there's flipping and rolling, but I don't know how close to film/frame timing that is.
    I guess what I really want to know is, is timing that important when the frames that have to be drawn are known?
    Can they even be known without timing tests (sending the papers off to some filming/pencil test)? Because sometimes frames must be favored to sell the motion over a framerate that isn't on ones.
    Would it be possible to do an animation with tricky timing without ever doing any actual filmed tests that have the timing filmed and would return a result how it would look in the end?
    If it is possible. Was that the standard? Or the exception? Did animators prefer (or were told to) send things to the cameraman every time to get a test reel back?
    I'm just curious, sorry for this wordy thing...I just figure that requiring a filmed and timed out test reel every time would be a great hassle, but at the same time I wonder if tricky scenes can still be animated without the timing, simply by drawing all the required frames and flipping/rolling them on the drawing table.

    • @AaronBlaiseArt
      @AaronBlaiseArt  4 года назад +4

      We made timing charts on the pages

    • @dorklymorkly3290
      @dorklymorkly3290 4 года назад +1

      @@AaronBlaiseArt Thanks for answering. As 'duh' of a question it kinda was (since I do know about the timing charts), but it still answers my question in a way.
      So, yeah, it was enough to do work with, having the charts.

    Do I need to set my layer to something special? When I start coloring in the shadow with this blue it just covers the lion. It doesn’t look like it’s part of it if that makes sense.
