    Aaron, was about to give up with digital, always seems to turn into a "buggers muddle"... Your basic steps video has really helped to sort out where I'm going wrong... If you could just stand behind me occasionally, like my old art teachers used to do, and make a few encouraging noises now and again... Thank you for sharing your knowledge, enthusiasm and talent 😎👍

      I'm not Aaron, but as someone who has been doing digital art for about 12years or so I can say this: play with your layers multiply, lighten, overlay, screen are great to use, but sometimes another setting can surprise you especially depending on how it interacts. You can also play with your color layer setting to get the optimal contrast without becoming muddied. Just play with the program and have fun these are great tips, but that's expected from a professional who does this for a living ^^

    I swear to god, my jaw was open the entire time you were refining. You made it seem really simple and I felt like I was going to cry from how beautiful the tiger was. You're like the Ratchet of art (and yes, I mean Ratchet from Transformers). Thank you so much! Please consider a tutorial for textures like reflective metals if you haven't done so! :)

    Overlay blending mode works as both Multiply and Screen - that is, for bright colours it adds light, and for dark colours it adds a shadow. There is (at least in Krita, I think in Photoshop it’s the same) a “Screen” blending mode which is basically inverse Multiply - it does to light the same as Multiply does to shadows - that is, black doesn’t cause any change at all, but any other colour brightens the image slightly (and white just gives pure white).
    Screen is basically - invert the layers, multiply them, invert the result. Overlay is “multiply for colours below the value 0.5 - cast shadows; blend as screen for values above 0.5 - cast light”.
    TLDR is: Screen is the “Multiply for light”, and Overlay is both combined.

    • @benedyktjaworski9877
      @benedyktjaworski9877 10 месяцев назад

      But I guess that’s the point of using Overlay (the Multiply-Screen mix) for lights - it brightens the light colour, and deepens the dark colours, enhancing contrast - cause in well-lit areas the transitions between colours are much sharper.

    The thing about flopping the drawing is that perhaps if something looks good one way it doesn't the other,and vice versa, so by trying to improve a flopped image might make the image worse. Just a theory

    I've been doing digital art for almost 20 years! Gross! And I've never done it very well and when I do it well it was a struggle to get there. This entire time it's because I wasn't using multiple and overlay and was doing my lights and shadows in a traditional way. I've watched many videos telling about the multiply and overlay but they OVER explained it and confused me. You've just opened a gate in my art career wide open buddy. You have as much talent in teaching as you do art.

    What really demotivates me is the coloring. I just started digital painting and I just dont get how you get from laying in the local color, to what comes after that. It looks so real, how the lion has different kind of colors here and the there but without feeling displaced, it just looks all natural how the colors are blend in to another. When i try to do anything with colors after the local color it just looks shitty and not natural how the different color types are working together. I hope you understand what i'm saying, english is not my first language ^^
