This is the most elegant and beautiful method to explain lightning I've ever seen! Usually the explanation of the subject leads to starting from wight paper and applying charcoal to shadow areas.
Pulling up the charcoal to build lit areas and the piece of advice "shadow is absence of direct light" are very valuable. This is actually how light works in our initially dark world. :)
    Thank you Aaron!!!

I am just getting back into drawing. This is just amazing to watch you pull the image into life. I have to ask, I am just getting into getting supplies and I got the cheap stuff like Crayola pencils and crayons, stuff from the dollar tree. The light colored pencils like white and yellow are yuck. In fact even the colors are to pale. I am guessing they are designed to get off furniture and walls, for when Moms and Dads have creative young artists. I noticed the white pencil you used really makes the image brighter. Is it the technique that makes the white pop or is it the pencil? both? I got some charcoal yesterday and now that my face is covered in smugges and I look like I have black fingers I think, what can I do with white pencils? And what should I buy? I love your videos. And Love your work! Thanks!
