I love how these guys that got beat by Bird, can still look back and smile and laugh about it. The respect that they have for each other is inspiring.
It’s as though they think it was a badge of honor. They were good enough for Larry to trash talk & beat them.
I agree friend
It's how we used to do. Now everyone's best buddies.
@@The2ndFirst Can you imagine Bird jersey swapping with anyone
exactly
I could listen to people talk about Bird all day too - what a funny but lethal player! It's good to know that he's appreciated for his true worth and skill.
All day. they crack me up!
0
He’s overrated tho
One of the greatest parts of any sporting competition is the respect that players have for other player's abilities. It's the hallmark of great players to respect other players without envy and sincere admiration.
Prime Larry Bird would easily dominate todays NBA
Agreed. Any era!
Definitely would have played much longer....
@@derrickbaker759 Agreed. Think of all the careers cut short by injuries that can a lot of times be repaired today, especially knees. Huge improvements in surgeries, physical therapies, diets and other sports medicine practices have really improved the past few decades.
Then there’s the death of Bias, who most likely would have extended Bird and McHales careers. Playing heavy minutes deep into the playoffs with Bird’s ailing back and McHales broken foot definitely took years off their NBA careers.
@@fishsquishguy1833 well Larry bird wasn't for extending the play.. he's going to be on the court or his time playing I'd done. Do we not think for a second they were like just stay out/ doctors you shouldn't play anymore... naw Larry played the game and went out the way he wanted to go out nothing was gonna stop him. He ain't sitting the bench.
@@jacobsladder6715 Yeah, I agree. I remember there were trade rumors near the end of his career, that had him going to the Pacers. After the Cs resigned him he said if traded he would have just retired.
There was also an earlier moment when he was signed to a contract and afterwards, while sitting next to Red, said he would have played for free.
Why do people say Bird was slow? He was all over the court, working harder and smarter than anyone. He was faster than most!
And what's it say about you if u say he's slow but still shoots your lights out ?? 😆
In baseball, there was charlie hustle. In basketball, there was larry hustle who later became larry legend.
Bird was physically slow compared to most NBA players. His mind was a step ahead & his concentration + how he perfected his skills was another level.
That's cuz casual that never played thinks speed is the main part of game . 🧠 Is biggest bball muscle
They say same thing about one Nikola Jokic and all he does is gone and won BACK TO BACK MVPS. Non hoopers don't understand but being athletic doesn't mean squat
Could listen to Larry Bird stories all day, definitely ready for part 3. Thanks Nick
Coming soon! Thanks 🙏

@@MARION25758 : Bullshit.
All around great guy with A DOWN to earth personality & life experiences ALOT of us can relate to. He us legend
Michael Jordan publicly thanked Bird for retiring. I was fortunate enough to be born in 1979 and grew up watching Jordan vs Bird . And it was my favorite video game on the Atari .
Jordan never beat Bird in any playoff series…yes, a game or two, but lost 4 series in a row.
@@sarge420 it’s still doesn’t change the fact that Jordan did publicly thank Larry bird for retiring.
@bmc11879 do yu realize his comment was made to support yours..😭
I had it as a handheld.
Lol
That shot behind the board. That show how crazy and how crazy talented Bird was. Damn that shot was unexpected!
The last time I played my brother, when we were young and still in shape, he beat me with that same shot....that was in the early 70's...when Bird hit his shot, I called my brother and said his shot was illegal, and that I won. My bro ran with the Lakers summer league for a few years...my game was strictly D...patterned after my previous favorite player...Russell.
Had it been anyone else, I would have said what a lucky shot. But...
@@KrazyKen2020 i know right bird was so good
Great shot but waved off. Was an illegal shot
Which I don't get because that was Amazing shot!
It still amazes me that I can sit for long periods of time and watch videos about basketball! I've never been a basketball person but watching Larry Bird videos had changed all that!
That's because he's the greatest player of all time. MJ was delighted when he retired and his back was shot by that point.
Try watching Bobby Orr videos.
He was pretty much a jedi master with jedi mind tricks n everything
I know, right??
Doc Rivers "he come up the court calling his shots, off the glass, who's next, where you want this one from" that's my favorite Larry Bird story. He was an absolute savage.
Who’s next? Where you want this one? The confidence, the ballz, the talent to back it up time and time again. Love it!
Larry Bird was nothing short of INSPIRATIONAL. His "work ethic" helped his teammates be winners.❤
The same doc rivers who was liking transgender porn on twitter before you could hide you likes?
Bird, Magic, Domique, Dr J etc made the 80’s one of the best eras ever for NBA basketball.
Yesssssir.......I was at the fame when the Celtics were warming up against the Bulls in Chicago.Bird , Ainge , and Dennis Johnson were playing horse, Bird played the whole game while shooting with his left , and holding a water bottle in his right, YELLING OUT HORSE TO EACH PLAYER AFTER HE MADE THE SHOT......🤷
@@libraez9237 Believe it or not, Bird was and still is underrated because he is white in an era where most basketball players were black. He is one of those once in several decades player like Bill Russell.
Living legend french lick Indiana to beantown bird was best trash talker by far
Michael came in. 1984. That qualifies
I’m so grateful that I was around to watch Bird and his counterparts play in real time in the 80s. As a NYC girl, I was a Knicks fan, but I never missed a game when the Celtics aired because I could watch Bird all day - you always knew it was gonna be special. And as I always say, Larry is a once in a lifetime gift from the basketball gods!
Dennis Johnson was probably the most underrated player ever. Not just underrated Celtic player but, all time! He was amazing.
LB knows his greatness. Always adore the scene after the steal and DJ layup. Where DJ does the double hand c’mere to Larry and they embrace. ❤️.
I loved Dennis Johnson! I was only like 8 but I still remember enjoying his game.

Indeed 👍
I knew how good he was but didn't know where he came from and the struggles he and his family went through!
Strong physically and mentally and carried his past with him and took it out on anyone who dared guard him!
He trash talked and told the players and coaches exactly what he was going to do and did it!!!
Dominated!!!
Shooting, passing and rebounding and he couldn't even jump! The best!!!
Incredible respect and admiration for the man and his talent!
Never be another!!!
Goat 🐐
I personally believe he ran slow, and jumped low out of spite. He made you play at his pace, the way he wants. It's mamba mentality with a bitter twist to it. It's brilliant!
Niiiice....👍
The GOAT of basketball, this era, these players, this skill and finesse, when the Gods of basketball played.
The greatest. That era of the NBA is like the Baroque era of Classical music. A moment in time when many great, unique artists came together and created something unique that will never be repeated. Glad I was there to witness it.
Baroque is a good term because that era was definitely ornamented.
They all thought they could guard Bird but thought different afterwards. DJ and Bird were so good together. I remember in the late 70's and early 80's seeing the brothers wearing Bird Starter jackets. I could watch him play all day and listen to stories about him.
I don't think bird came to the NBA until 80/ 81,he was still n collage n 76/77 & so on i could be wrong
Yes he was in college.
His rookie year was 1979-80.
@@hasanmuhammad3916 Bird got drafted in 1979. Him and Magic played against each other March 1979 in the national championship game.
@@ianburns1175 thx
This was very well done. LB deserves this recognition and the youth needs to understand his absolute greatness
Far too many people have no clue
Agreed!!!
I remember back in the 80’s Larry Bird had the entire NBA in fear….
Go chiefs. Rich Eisen is a knob.
Growing up in the 80's as a little punk being a Lakers fan I couldn't stand Bird much less respect him cause he played for the enemy that was Boston. And hell even into my teens I felt the same and unfortunately it wasn't until the Dream Team and how all the other countries responded to and respected Bird and the others along with the documentary footage that I found my respect for the man. However he was prepared along with Magic to pass the torch to Jordan and i didn't get to appreciate him as a great player......hell as the greatest SF to ever play and yes I know the "king" plays SF. I mean the man would flat out tell you what the play would be and then go out and do it!! Bird was most definitely a very special and a once in a lifetime talent. Name a player today who can and has played a almost whole game with their off hand.
same for me but opposite, I absolutely hated magic and the lakers, someone would ask me what's your favorite team, my response is always anyone that beats the lakers (truly a suns fan). Later definately came around when they played for the USA together..... Loved it.....still hate the lakers to this day though...lol
I love the story Chris Mullins tells in the Dream Team doc about the scrimmage. Magic was giving MJ an earful and Mullins says "It doesn't take much to get Michael going". Then after the scrimmage MJ goes up to Magic and Larry and says "There's a new sheriff in town" and Magic says he and Larry look at each other and Magic says "Well, he ain't wrong."
Jamal Mashburn just gave us another legendary bird story of when they played the dream team. He retired 30 odd years ago and there's still legendary stories of this man that are coming out.
This video was filthy. What Magic said, that interview, people just don’t understand how good Larry Bird was, have to watch games. I love Steph n he is becoming more clutch as he gets older. Larry Bird came in the league with it. Nobody had more effect on the court, and his teammates, than Larry. Not even Mj. I graduated in 96, I love His Airness. But Larry Bird is my favorite ever. He beat everybody, at every level, no matter if the other team had better players, Larry Bird got his. Thank you again for this video! Great job telling the Truth! 👍👏
I'm glad this episode included the acumen of DENNIS JOHNSON! One of the ALLTIME Celtics GREATS!!!! RIP D.J. GOD BLESS!!!!
You deserve the respect DJ! RIP 🙏
This guy is an icon !! the greatest players in the world cherish him !!
I could never get weary of Larry Bird stories because that stone-cold killer looked so harmless and innocent on the court. Hands down the greatest SF that ever breathed.
Hands down huh… so Lebron not even close? 😂😂
@@hunterthurmond4771
Nope. Larry > LeBron
@@hunterthurmond4771
Lebron may have accumulated a lot of stats but a lot of the players he played against were not of the same HOF quality as the ones Bird played against.
@@chris93703 you know most people say the competition in the NBA has never been higher than right?
Lol
Not a basketball fan but watching these videos about Larry Bird the skill the man had truly remarkable 👏
Bird’s biography should be titled “That F’ng White guy can play”
Among The GOATS
That's racist AF.. why he gotta be that white guy that can play? So we allowed to say that about Black QBs in NFL or would that be racist? Why he have to be a white bball player? Why can't he just be a bball player? I'm sick of the blatant, acceptable racism towards white people in today's society

I LOVE me some MJ, but I will never get tired of Larry Bird stories.
The thing about Bird that was probably the most frustrating against opposing players was that he was so un-athletic but he was so good and a lot of his shots looked awkward and clumsy and yet they still went in.
He also obviously had that Midwestern charm about him that doesn't exactly shout "braggadocious" so his trash talking probably gets under his opponents' skins. Lol.
Where do you get that Larry was un-athletic. Watch his early years, nothing un-athletic about his play.
@@73Trident He's un-athletic by basketball standards. Just about every NBA player who played against Bird spoke about how un-athletic he was.
Only the uneducated believe he was unathletic. He simply used his speed and jumping when needed, not every single play like those with very little IQ.
@@TS-rb2zl Okay, so I'm going to have to take your word for it over the actual people who played in the NBA and said he was un-athletic? Lol.
@@kawaiiafangirl Luka and LeBron James would kill bird
I see Larry bird I click play 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Hope you enjoyed
The only white basketball player I've ever seen that to my knowledge has never been called overrated even once by any of the great black players he played against in the NBA. As a matter of fact, among the list voted of the top 50 NBA players of all time, Bird went against no less than 18 of them. They may have hated hearing that trash talking when they had to face him on the court, but these days many of them are in videos like this giving testimonials and paying homage to just how special Bird's game was.
Rodman called him overrated, followed by Zeke doubling down on it. If you knew NBA history you would know this as this was a very huge deal.
@@blowc1612 I'm a Pistons fan and yes they did call Bird overrated because the Pistons had to go through them in 86 and got smoked. Rodman was young and dumb back then if you were to ask him I'm sure he would say different. Zeek always respected Bird but had to support Rodman as a team leader.
@@89DrFunk yeah I'm sure the older Rodman would agree Bird isn't overrated but still, it doesn't change the fact that Bird was called overrated by a great Black BB player
He's a bad man......he deserves the honors!
Not only was he a good player he was a good friend Magic Johnson said when he was diagnosed with HIV that Larry bird was the first person to call him of all the people he knew and tell him that he was there for him
Never knew that
Love this stuff
@@jeffbettencourt6263there’s a documentary about bird and magic on YT it’s really good and Magic mentions that. That he had people drop him and some talk trash about him after it came out and that Bird called him immediately and asked if he was okay if he needed help what he could do if I’m remembering right.
I wasn't even a basketball fan until the 80's. Suddenly basketball got exciting. Legend!
He is the greatest (for me), no Jordan (close), no Lebron (def.), maybe Magic or Kareem....but no, he is the killer: "Larry Bird was cold.".
Yeah you’re high. Even Bird said Jordan was god in human form.
@@cjh6678 that’s bc LB off court is the humblest human being you’ll meet.
LB is the goat hands down.
-- Bird and Hakeem are my favorites. But MJ is the GOAT followed by Lebron/Kareem/etc in no particular order.
But as Isaiah Thomas once said, if he had to pick someone to hit the game winner, it would be Bird.
Larry Legend was a stone cold killer. The GOAT in my book.
Even Bird have Jordan better.
Larry Bird is my idol. I could listen to Bird’s story all day. I can’t wait for part 3.
These are the days of basketball greatness. I was hooked back then.
I never missed an opportunity to watch Larry play growing up. Larry elevated everyone in their game then brilliantly showed what's possible. All the above

Larry Bird is a Legend!
I was for some reason not a basketball fan growing up but watching these videos and hearing these stories makes me wish I had been. Didn't realize at the time what an amazing player he was.
Larry is hard to describe because he had so many great qualitys as a player.
Back when the NBA was full of tough dudes and respect
Larry Bird..greatest small forward ever... alpha dog and sheer genius and chutzpah every night
Hearing all those legends of the game speak on Larry is just amazing... what an underrated player today's fans and players don't show the man enough respect. One more reason why Kobe was so great is he understood and learned from every legend of the game ..
BIRD ,BIRD , BIRD...WTF is BIRD...
Damnnn ! That brotha can play ....
I never realized that Larry and DJ were so close.
Yes please do a part 3 and as many more as possible. The reason Bird was very good was his work ethic & being respected by almost everyone in the league
Larry bird trash talking just made the game funny and entertaining, you have to remember that when you trash talk and can back it up it is no longer trash talking.
Great video.
Larry Bird is the GOAT.

That Celtics/Hawks playoff game one of the best NBA games ever played
I remember watching it with my grandfather
Great video Nick! Growing up and as an adult I loved the Lakers and Magic, Bryon, Kareem, Cooper, Worthy and of course Chick Hern! Hated the Boston Celtics with a passion. To this day I loathe any team from Boston no matter what sport. But Larry Bird was the man. My goodness. For me the two best players to ever touch a basketball are Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. No question. Best All-Time. Thanks for the memories!
I am very surprised you say Larry is number one over those other players considering you rooted for the Lakers. That says something. I worshipped Larry. The thing is I honestly can't tell you who was better him or Magic. I lean Larry, but Magic won more. He may have had more talent on his team, but I'm not sure about that. I do know that Larry's health became the reason the Celtics didn't win some more titles. Not to mention Len Bias dying. That would have been sick. If Bias turned into the player they thought he would be the Celtics would have certainly won 2/3 more titles before Larry retired.
Very much! Thank you. Yes, please, #3.
Will do!
Larry Bird has always been and will be my favorite ball player of all time, no one else will ever touch him.

No problem man! Idk if it would work or not but maybe use this same concept as these videos but with teams or duo/trios, like magic kareem lakers any of the good Boston eras, Detroit in the 80’s golden state and Miami in the 2010’s!!
part 3, 4 and 5 on Bird. The best ever
How are you " letting " Bird score on you.
LETTING?
I AINT letting him do anything.
He's still doing it no matter what I do.
He's still kicking my butt.
Nick thanks for the excellent videos ! I have always been interested in stories about Connie Hawkins. He was selected as 1 of the greatest players of all time, when the NBA 1st came out with the the greatest ever list. Now it seems as if he's dropped down with the most recent list. His skill was phenomenal. Take a look at his story.
These are stories I haven’t heard before. Stories like him busting a shot on Xavier McDaniel are repeated non-stop (still great). These are fresh. Nice work.
80s NBA trash talk was for fellow players, not camera, crowd, referees and talent agents
@@earlpipe9713 There are people who, when hearing these stories, wish that Bird had been mic'd up. 🤦🏻♀️
Bird wasn't talking for publication.
It was game talk, "table talk"
He would never have agreed to a mic. I doubt any of them would have in that era.
I have a lot of respect for the great players who are talking here, because they are willing to give credit where credit is due, whether they liked Larry Bird or not. They gave him respect and therefore deserve respect. I do enjoy listening to them and also watching Bird play.
He tell this story so well…I enjoy it every time
And mad props to guys like rick mchorm..
Omg..the 90s was the golden age of basketball
Think of how many points Larry made just because other players underestimated him. Before he even touched the ball he already had the psychological advantage.
As a kid and young man I had the privilege to watch Larry Legend play. He set a standard that I have not seen anyone match. Jordan had his game yes, but Bird was just the model that they broke the mold on when he played the game.
damn! what i would give to witness this Era in basketball. esp to see Larry play. Hes my favorite NBA player! although im young lol i still rock his jersey! haha
this never gets old. he was an OG. him and MJ were like hunter killers on the court
Why does MJ always have to appear in Bird comments? He is a one of, if not, the greatest player of all time and should be spoken about with the respect he deserves. Only because he is white do people feel the need to include someone else in Bird comments in case they get abused. Talk about Bird on his own because he was the GOAT.
