It truly is amazing how mechanically solid this game was, especially considering how few FPS had come before it. Well over 20 years later, and there's still only a small handful of other FPS games you could make a strong argument for being better than Doom.
DrearierSpider1 i seriously can name the shooters that are better than doom on fingers, and they arent really better, just as good as doom: quake, half life (1 & 2), duke nukem 3d, serious sam, rise of the triad, shadow warrior and blood. THATS IT
1ex1uger no, serious sam can be on that list. heretic isnt as good as doom, and maybe rott is (that depends on you), but those games certainly arent bad
Doom's shotgun actually has RANGE!!! The shotgun isn't overpowered either since you're fighting demons instead of people like most FPS's nowadays. The fact that Doom has a shotgun that isn't a glorified melee weapon like in Halo 3 or Doom 3 (ironic, eh?) automatically knocks it up a few point for me. Doom is just pure fun, more fun than I've had in a while. Doom actually made me jump too, despite not being a horror game. I believe it's mission 4, 5, or 6 in episode 1, where you go through this sort of maze to find a yellow key card. A Pinky demon came out of a corner, and since I wasn't expecting it I jump out of my seat. That combined with the gunplay tells you you're playing something special.
The columbine shooting was not *in* doom. However the Columbine shooting was "inspired" by doom. However, those were the shooters idiot actions, i have never felt violent because of first person shooters.
I didn't really like Doom 3, too dark, not enough open spaces like in original doom, not enough monster variations, and the weapons seemed kind off janky. I didn't really suck, it just wasn't "Doom" enough for me. Haven't played 2016 but I will once I upgrade my laptop. Can't wait!
Despite being in my 30's, I've only recently gotten into DOOM 1 and 2 thanks to source ports (the original incarnations gave me motion sickness). It really is amazing how well these games have aged, to the point where it feels like a breath of fresh air compared to most modern shooters. Factor in a treasure trove of custom content from a still-active modding community and the replay value is practically endless.
If I had a nickel for every time my brothers called me over and asked me to remind them of the cheat codes, I'd be wealthy. made me feel like an IDDQD among men.
Uh, Gggman, Knee Deep in the Dead takes place on Phobos, while The Shores of Hell takes place on Deimos. Just wanted to point that out. Awesome Review though.

The great thing about doom is that it has a lot of the same design philosophies as old 2d games. Very distinct enemy and level design being among them. Modern games have enemies that look too much alike and level design seems more like a copy paste job.
+Alan Lee totally. the engine being locked to a single plane (with variations in height but no stacking) forced some really creative design solutions. also, all the moving platforms and hidden walls and so forth.... modern fps's obviously can throw a lot more geometry at you but where are all of the tricky moving parts in level design??
6:27 Correction: actually, Doom never took place on Mars, only in Phobos (episode 1) and Deimos (episode 2), I don't know why people always put Mars on the game, the original game never took place on it!
I played Doom 2 long before Doom, since it was a store-shelf-bound commercial release, but there's something about the first one, especially that first episode, that gives me the warm and fuzzies. I'd encourage everyone who's been through Doom 100 times to check out the fan-made Doom The Way Id Did if they want another dose of the original's style.
Just curious. I'd recommend doing as much research as possible before getting too hyped; DOOM 2016 probably won't deliver everything you're expecting from it. For reference, I've played both the beta and the alpha. The game plays a lot differently than it looks in the trailers. That's not to say it's intrinsically _bad_, but the game is definitely aimed at an audience other than just fans of classic DOOM, and it really shows. I can't tell you whether you'll enjoy it or not, but I'd recommend being cautious and keeping your expectations low.
Of course they don't make games like this anymore. Now we actually get good games, like Call of Duty and The Division. You nostalgists need to stfu and realize the true masterpieces. Why do you think cod gets annual releases? Because it's so good.
This is probably the best and most comprehensive review of the first two DOOM games I've ever seen. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the fantastic content!
My first taste of Doom was actually Doom 2, At school around 1995 a teacher had Doom 2 installed on 3 or 4 machines and groups of us always played it around lunch time.. My first personal copy of doom was on the 32x and then around 96 got the ps1 version and that's the version I played the most I loved it...
Great video as always, man. Doom was the first game I ever played when I was 6, and it pretty much molded my love for fps and metal, so its cool to hear someone talk about what i love so much about the series
"The last shooting game I'd played was Wolfenstein 3D which was impressive enough but holy shit when Doom came out we all just lost it." I couldn't agree more. Technological and graphical leaps seemed all the more profound in the 90s, compared to today. This game, and countless others afterwards, were the reason I entered the annual PC upgrade cycle from then until about five years ago. Doom required at least a 486 DX to play 'properly'; as much as I loved my 386 it just could no longer cut it. Nostalgia is often viewed through rose-tinted spectacles, but playing Doom today still evokes that amazing feeling that I remember as a child. Thanks for a great review.
"Doom 2 which was released a mere year later" (at time 10:58). No, Doom 2 was released in 94 and Thy Flesh Consumed released in 95. Fun video! I love Doom.

+Wayne T yeah man the guy who made Brutal Doom is working in a Brutal mod for Doom 64, I can't wait for it... I beat Doom 64 AX for PC and I will replay it again once the mod comes out
Great review of a great classic. Includes is historical perspective, game mechanics, music details, quick level run down, and weapons/enemy time summary. Perfect quick review for a great game that is getting renewed interest because of the 2016 return of classic style DooM. Nice vid!
+SHAWKLAN 27 No. Just a bunch of amateurs having fun and learning... an extremely difficult engine to use. But I do get what you were going for. It's not that fun of a mod.
Gz on reaching 40k subscribers. Really like your reviews, very underrated reviewer channel on youtube imo! Really like you are mixing revies on older games and new titles too. Cheers!
Your channel is great and subscriber base will grow rapidly. Good voice, lots of knowledge, lots of content and very entertaining. I am very suprised you do not have hundreds of thousands yet. Says a lot about gamer's current interests and age.
Just an FYI: Doom had mouse support out of the box. What you're confusing it with is freelook, which with dooms engine literally could not support it as it wasnt true 3d.
My Lord Gggmsnlives, I applaud how thorough and considerate your reviews are. I especially like how you reviewed Doom+Doom II: you touch on all the facets which made the games unique and impressive, for their time and today. From replaying Doom, whether it is DOS or ZDoom, it still fascinates me how well it excels over other first person games at the time, and how it still has much to offer today. As ZDoom and other Doom ports are steadily improving, I keep hoping that Doom modders would combine what works in Doom with the elements of other games, like System Shock or Deus Ex, or even the Build engine games. Some Doom veterans have been working on new games with Doom's engine, such as The Adventures of Square (which I recommend checking out).
My dad was also awesome. He bought me halo when I was 7, even though my mom was strongly against it. We both took sledgehammers to a faulty controller, and let me watch Halloween when I was 12.
Congrats on your channel bruh. I remember playing this for the first time in 95. First computer I got since the good ol' C64 in late 80's, and never seen anything like it! Took me like 30+ hours to finish just the shareware version, on about medium difficulty. 😄
@@Rountree1985 The chainsaw and fists both do 2-20 damage per hit in single player. The fists hit 123.5 times per minute, while the chainsaw hits 525 times per minute (yes, I made a mistake above, the chainsaw is FOUR times as fast, not ten). Their damage values are identical. In terms of point for point damage output in a single attack, yes, they are dealing the same average damage. If you're looking at an average over time, fine, that's not going to be the same.
The BFG edition of Doom 2 did actually add some new levels in the form of an expansion known as 'No rest for the living". I think it shows how hard and rewarding Doom 2 can be, without being flat out cheap.
+Accidental TOAST Let us join forces and continue to pester him until he gets annoyed with us! Although it really is a great time to do so, since they're available for free download and playable on Windows now too.
Gggmanlives Good sir, if you don't mind me asking what didn't you like about the ports? From what I've played they seem to be rather accurate to the Mac versions, although this is entirely based upon memory.
Man, I remember feeling exactly like you did when first playing this game when I was younger. Fear and nerves played a huge role. Also agree with you about the 1st episode being the best cos Romero is a design God. I got his rules for level design that I try to follow whenever I make a map for Doom or Quake/Quake 2. Just a brilliant game and your review was great too. Awesome stuff mate keep it up!
+sirqua because A bunch of idiots on the internet played it once at their friends house and lost so they never played it again and shit on it on the Internet.
I first played Doom when I was 13(I'm almost 20) and out of all the fps games I've played over the years Doom 1 & 2 are my favorite to come back too. ID software is probably my favorite FPS dev in the industry. I love their other games like Doom 3, Quake 3 Arena, Wolfenstein 3D and Quake 4. Even though it was made by machine games Wolfenstein the new order and the old blood are probably my favorite games of this generation so far. They did such a good job calling back to that old school feel with fast gameplay and a ridiculous amount of violence. I'm so ready for Doom 4, it's not even funny. I generally don't pre-order games but I just pre-ordered in full because I'm that excited to play it.
+TheJayson8899 >not remembered for it's multiplayer. What are you on son? The multiplayer was revolutionary and most workplaces had RULES stating you couldn't play it.
+Mister Lucifer Agreed. PB is a better experience in every way, and completely customisable. Plenty of other fantastic gameplay mods out there too, Guncaster probably being my favourite. I'd also suggest GGG checks out the Hell on Earth starter pack. It's a full megawad designed for Brutal Doom, and in some ways feels similar to Half Life's level design. It's fully compatible with Project Brutality.
I always liked how the guy’s face reacted to being clawed at, torched, and nearly devoured with an eyebrow raise, like it was just some mildly curious fact of life
+Gggmanlives Have you played Marathon? It's the FPS trilogy from Bungie before they did Halo, they are pretty much Doom-likes but also interresting... You an find these games for free on Aleph One site.
One of my favorite channels, doing my favorite game great justice. Also, congratlations on your sub milestone, man, you deserve every one of them, in all honesty. :) Also, I'm sure you might know this, but, BloodCM has finally reached it's "finished" mark; all but the two expansions are finished, and I'm having a blast with it, despite a few texture bugs here and there. There's no FMV endings for the chapters, and the music is in a different format, but it's very faithful to the original DOS Blood, and I was curious if you might check it out or not.
Funny thing: While I like Doom 2 overall a little bit more than Doom 1, I think, that Doom 1 has WAY better level design. At least first three episodes. Well, Doom is my favorite FPS title, thats just it, but I fucking hate Final Doom. Those WADs are horrible gameplay-wise and they are inconsistent in terms of level design and they don't add anything new to gameplay at all! Go and play Doom 1 and Doom 2... maybe Doom 3 and new Doom release when it comes out (I hope, they won't fuck it up). But don't play Final Doom. Never!
@@soulsphere9242 True - if Final Doom was just that - a community level packs, it would be fine, but as payed expansion I still think of it lower than other Doom Titles. I'm glad that both Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal turned out being good games, but that sets Final Doom for me even lower. Again - main reason - you had to pay for them back then. As free addition for newer Doom/Doom 2 official port they are fine.
To me, the games that I come back to the most when I'm bored are Shogo and F.E.A.R.. The former still dazzles me with its masterful blend of mecha anime and Doom/Quake-like gunplay that makes me long for a modern anime-style FPS, and the latter still has some of the best AI and gunplay in gaming history (all wrapped up in a effectively haunting J-horror package). These games had such a huge impact on me that I used them as case studies in my academic paper on Japanese-influenced FPSs, a project that got the attention of some noteworthy developers.
+alleygh0st Blood's damn great, but it also came out 4 years after Doom. It's also very likely that we wouldn't have games like Duke 3D and Blood as we know them, had there not been Doom.
+alleygh0st "I live...again!" It's just like Triple G said: If id Software is the granddaddy of FPSs, then Monolith Productions is the crazy uncle (in a good way). With creative and memorable titles like Shogo, NOLF, F.E.A.R., Blood (just to name a few), I'd say that's a fairly accurate description!
Fantastic review! Doom's enemies, weapons and level design is what stands out the most. Hate how in the newer games it is difficult to know what demon you're fighting. Most of them blend in. Goes to show, the simpler, the better.
Just played Doom closed beta, holy shit is it bad! It's a Halo rip off and damn is it slow for doom. Also, the music is just a bunch of wub wub.. Wtf Bethesda?!
+movement2contact maybe I'm being a grumpy old fart or whatever but the beta didn't appeal to me. It's got that same bs every other shooter has nowadays with load outs, xp and unlockables. I was hoping a return to an actual arena shooter like Quake where u have to master the map and know where weapons spawn etc. But no, the armors so far look something like straight outta halo 4 and as PC ports go, I know it's a beta but where the fuck is the FOV slider? Also no way to turn off motion blur and mouse acceleration up the ass. I have no idea how the new ID manage to fuck this up?
+HereDirtyDuck You're not being a grumpy old fart. You just happen to understand why people absolutely love Doom and why both it and Quake are still praised. I'm 36 and I sadly realized about a decade ago that the game industry I grew up with is now mainstream and caters to stupid. id is owned by Bethesda and will never make a game again for a hardcore crowd. Morrowind was the last hardcore RPG Bethesda made. I was only interested in DOOM 2016 for the mod tools. Unfortunately they even dumbed those down. I don't expect most people to figure engines out like we used to, but Snap Map looks so generic.
Great review and fine analysis of the game. Well done, good sir. A few things to add: The 4th episode was also added by the free update/patch1.4 (?), so owners of the original DOOM got the last episode for free. Also, that episode featured a lot of nasty narrow places with tough enemies and an overall ammo shortage, making it the most difficult, especially on UV. The Pinkie Demon is actually called Demon only, the Pinkie was made up by the community later. Interesting how you made up a name for it using both versions. ;) Also, the term "DOOM guy" for the hero is nowhere to be found in the game itself, but first came up in interviews (online or in magazines) with Romero, as the player in front of the monitor was supposed to refer to and "identify as" the playable character. Lastly, I love the fact that, in the first few years after its release at least, everyone referred to the genre as "DOOM clones" when speaking of first person shooter games, even though there had been FPS before.
Excellent review! As a lifelong Doomer, I agree with your assessment about Doom2 being an overall better package. Man, what a fantastic series. (Fun fact, the Pain Elemental can only spit 20 lost souls! Once it gets to that limit, it will simply open its mouth, but nothing will come out.)
And here I thought you reviewed this a long time ago! I enjoy that you're able to articulate just what's entertaining, exciting and influential about the games, rather than just going on a long winded spiel about how "it's a great game because uh, it's a classic, an article said so and I played it as a kid! How is it fun? I dunno lol". Much more useful to people who aren't previously fans of the game, or are being introduced to it. However, I do like Final Doom. It just becomes very much about movement, since even hordes can be taken on with no damage if navigated well. Hitscanners like chaingunners exist to keep you moving in open areas and suppress you while meatier enemies move in, but it's silly when they're placed in little dark distant holes when the game ran at 320x200.
A new Doom 2 episode, "No Rest for the Living" came with the Xbox 360 release, it was a wad developed by Nerve Software. I consider it official. I played through this episode last year (you can, ahem, find rips of the wad online). I enjoyed it immensely. It is my second favorite episode behind Knee Deep in the Dead. Highly recommended.
The fact that you like the first episode is no coincidence. John Romero said in an interview that when designing the levels for the game, they started with the final levels in Inferno, and finished the levels in knee deep in the dead last. This was so they could get more experience in mapping out each level, so that they could make each level near the start of the game more balanced and intricate. That’s why the final level in Inferno is a basic arena, because it’s the first doom map that ID developed.
Mmm I think you got that wrong (or maybe I had). I remember John Romero mentioning doing the "first as last" about e1m1. There was no mention AFAIK about doing a whole episode this way. He and Sandy Petersen worked on them paralelly. JR made first one while SP second and third, finishing some of the levels, started by Tom Hall in the process.

+Wayne T yeah man the guy who made Brutal Doom is working in a Brutal mod for Doom 64, I can't wait for it... I beat Doom 64 AX for PC and I will replay it again once the mod comes out
Brutal doom and project brutality are great mods, but I still prefer the vanilla experience.
Same has soon has I started playing brutal doom I literally just stopped playing my other FPS's because it was so much more addictive than the rest.
Elitist Prince Dizzy I'd pick vanilla Doom over Brutal Doom any day
Great review of a great classic.
Includes is historical perspective, game mechanics, music details, quick level run down, and weapons/enemy time summary.
Perfect quick review for a great game that is getting renewed interest because of the 2016 return of classic style DooM.
Nice vid!
I'm still playing it.
Coolio.
+SHAWKLAN 27 No. Just a bunch of amateurs having fun and learning... an extremely difficult engine to use.
But I do get what you were going for. It's not that fun of a mod.
+Bryan T Your channel is excellent and I hope a ton of people subscribe.
+Blitzstrk You move faster.
Viewtiful Joe Hey, thanks broski.
Gz on reaching 40k subscribers. Really like your reviews, very underrated reviewer channel on youtube imo!
Really like you are mixing revies on older games and new titles too. Cheers!
Hey! - Doom in 16:9? This is a special version? It is available on steam?
Regards!
+DallasStudios Zdoom, friend.
+Gggmanlives Thanks. I played Doom II in 1996 on my first PC. Now its time to refresh the cult fpp game. Regards!
+DallasStudios zdoom / Gzdoom and if you are looking for multiplayer Zandronum. Gzdoom being a kind of extension of Zdoom
+DallasStudios oh yea, and with those ports you are able to freshen up the lively hood of Doom, say Brutal Doom, Smooth Doom or change it completly
+Gggmanlives please review HacX, please? Pretty please?
Your channel is great and subscriber base will grow rapidly. Good voice, lots of knowledge, lots of content and very entertaining. I am very suprised you do not have hundreds of thousands yet. Says a lot about gamer's current interests and age.
+Ryan Iles Thanks!
Screw Most Modern FPS games
I only play Doom, Quake, Half Life, Blood, Serious Sam, Duke Nukem 3D, Chex Quest, Heretic, Hexen, Strife, Wolfenstein 3D
You left out Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2
what a gamer, this is epic
Why not both? :P
Kyle Raccoon Halo CE through Reach?
That sucks bro
Excellent video, really enjoyed it :)
Just an FYI: Doom had mouse support out of the box. What you're confusing it with is freelook, which with dooms engine literally could not support it as it wasnt true 3d.
+soundtea Correct - If you try Zdoom you can immediately see the problem with freelook inherent in the engine.
+Mansen ZDoom just adds the archaic free look heretic and hexen had. GZDoom has perfect free look.
Felix Wilson ... IT SHOWS YOU WHY THE GAME DIDN'T PROVIDE FREELOOK.
I never said ANYTHING about offering good free-look.
Digital Intent I could never get used to mouse control - It felt so weird having mouse become what we know as WASD movement.
Mansen I play Doom keyboard only
Congrats on 40k you deserve so many more subs, You have the most detailed and well thought out reviews on the internet!
I installed Doom on every one of the computers in computer lab, Oh the joys of wanting to go to class!! HAHA
Some Doom veterans have been working on new games with Doom's engine, such as The Adventures of Square (which I recommend checking out).
great review and congrats on reaching 40k subs :D
My dad was also awesome. He bought me halo when I was 7, even though my mom was strongly against it. We both took sledgehammers to a faulty controller, and let me watch Halloween when I was 12.
Probably the best Doom review in the interwebs.
Congrats on your channel bruh.
I remember playing this for the first time in 95. First computer I got since the good ol' C64 in late 80's, and never seen anything like it! Took me like 30+ hours to finish just the shareware version, on about medium difficulty. 😄
Imagine using Mouselook in a doom review?
-This meme was made by the actualdoomfan gang
Great review! Just finished replaying doom 1 and 2. Now its time to replay Doom 3.
4:41 - Actually, the chainsaw does the exact same damage as the fists. It just inflicts that damage ten times faster.
Then it doesn’t do the “exact same damage”
@@Rountree1985 The chainsaw and fists both do 2-20 damage per hit in single player. The fists hit 123.5 times per minute, while the chainsaw hits 525 times per minute (yes, I made a mistake above, the chainsaw is FOUR times as fast, not ten). Their damage values are identical. In terms of point for point damage output in a single attack, yes, they are dealing the same average damage. If you're looking at an average over time, fine, that's not going to be the same.
Best fps reviewer on the net! plus you introduced me to the Reuben sandwhich..... kudos!
"United Space Aero Corporation"
That's... not the name.
I love your reviews GMAN. I think if they were shorter they would be better, but I think I have watched them all lol
I always forget Gman is colorblind so I got confused when he called the imps green at 5:38. (they're brown)
I was starting to think that I may be colour blind as I always thought they were brown too haha
The BFG edition of Doom 2 did actually add some new levels in the form of an expansion known as 'No rest for the living". I think it shows how hard and rewarding Doom 2 can be, without being flat out cheap.
You think you can do a review of the marathon trilogy by bungie?
+Accidental TOAST I'm guessing you're a fan of those games?
+Gggmanlives Yes.
+Accidental TOAST Let us join forces and continue to pester him until he gets annoyed with us!
Although it really is a great time to do so, since they're available for free download and playable on Windows now too.
The Marathon series source port sucks and I don't own a Mac. Don't hold your breath for a review.
Gggmanlives
Good sir, if you don't mind me asking what didn't you like about the ports? From what I've played they seem to be rather accurate to the Mac versions, although this is entirely based upon memory.
Man, I remember feeling exactly like you did when first playing this game when I was younger. Fear and nerves played a huge role. Also agree with you about the 1st episode being the best cos Romero is a design God. I got his rules for level design that I try to follow whenever I make a map for Doom or Quake/Quake 2.
Just a brilliant game and your review was great too. Awesome stuff mate keep it up!
Hi bro, what source port are you using? thanks!
ZDoom
Gggmanlives thanks mate
+Gggmanlives i usr gzdoom :-)
+Awesomon yeah I think gzdoom is better than zdoom
***** also zdoom is the only source port that allows us to play online
5:38
nop, they’re brown :)
love your style man! binge watching all tour videos is great fun
Didn't you already review this game?
Last one was more of a reminiscence of his childhood experiences with Doom, didn't really cover the gameplay.
+therainbowpigs Nope.
Doom was my first ever proper PC game, I fell in loved it and still do, have the classic on my old mac and 360.
Should include "and Doom II" in the title
He doesn’t review Doom II in this video.
Such a great game and legacy it has. Your channel rules Gggmanlives!
Well this was way overdue.
+BaconPancakesGaming I was saving it up for a special occasion.
+Gggmanlives what's the occasion.
BaconPancakesGaming
40k subs lad
dude, you kill it!!!! keep up the great work!!!!! love your videos!!!!!
Hey Gggmanlives are you excited for the new halo game, I mean doom?
+iron mask of hell Not really.
It doesn't look like an old school shooter at all.
+sirqua because A bunch of idiots on the internet played it once at their friends house and lost so they never played it again and shit on it on the Internet.
Look guys, it's Captain Hindsight!
I generally don't pre-order games but I just pre-ordered in full because I'm that excited to play it.
do project igi 1 & 2
+Jagannath Barman Hell yeah
Great review! Thanks for not just rehashing what everyone else has said a dozen times. (Also it's UAC, not USC.)
+WiredNet He said UAC, maybe you just misheard him because of his Aussie accent.
Mouse look has always been there.
Strange that gg doesn't mention multiplayer. I had a blast back in the day doing deathmatch tournaments with my friends.
Let's all agree that multiplayer doom is fun.
+TheJayson8899 >not remembered for it's multiplayer.
What are you on son? The multiplayer was revolutionary and most workplaces had RULES stating you couldn't play it.
You should do a Mod Corner on Project Brutality. I find it to be a far better version of Brutal Doom.
I always liked how the guy’s face reacted to being clawed at, torched, and nearly devoured with an eyebrow raise, like it was just some mildly curious fact of life
Unless you were working on being a piano prodigy there isn't really anything productive you can do as an 8 year old.
+Myrdred Deceiver Playing outside, riding a bike, reading a book, painting, drawing. I'm referring to things like that, don't take it so literally.
Gggmanlives I'm just being stodgy haha
+Gggmanlives Have you played Marathon? It's the FPS trilogy from Bungie before they did Halo, they are pretty much Doom-likes but also interresting...
You an find these games for free on Aleph One site.
+Garrus Skywalker The Marathon source port sucks.
+Gggmanlives What do you mean it sucks?
Top notch stuff here, sir!
i have to disagree, there is nothing better to do for an 8 year old kid then playing fuckin dooooom haha... except maybe playing doom 2...
0:28 You had officially the best dad ever
episode 1 takes place on the Phobos moon, episode 2 takes place on Deimos... shame on you )
You're right...I FUCKED UP!
I prefer Blood but that's me.
+alleygh0st Blood's damn great, but it also came out 4 years after Doom. It's also very likely that we wouldn't have games like Duke 3D and Blood as we know them, had there not been Doom.
True.
+alleygh0st Serious Sam/Unreal Tournament are the games I prefer in terms of FPS, followed by the Elder Scrolls then Doom.
+alleygh0st "I live...again!"
It's just like Triple G said: If id Software is the granddaddy of FPSs, then Monolith Productions is the crazy uncle (in a good way). With creative and memorable titles like Shogo, NOLF, F.E.A.R., Blood (just to name a few), I'd say that's a fairly accurate description!
+alleygh0st I think some Blood mods are better than the actual game.
+HereDirtyDuck The closed beta is only MP right? I'm only interested in the campaign, but if it's equally as bad then I could save myself £40
please, PLEASE be lying or trolling... T.T
They can't make a good Doom in this day and age.
Truly one of the all time classic video games which is still a blast to play today especially with the brutal Doom mod installed.
I fuckin' love Doom.
Oh Brutal DooM! Love that shit!
Clone42 I've finished NRFTL yesterday and I honestly share the same opinion. It and KDITD were the best sets of levels in the entire series.
You forgot to mention one of the games greatest strengths; it'll run on ANYTHING.
JR made first one while SP second and third, finishing some of the levels, started by Tom Hall in the process.
the final level in inferno does not exist in the doom betas just so you know
