Conan communicates/holds conversations much better, whereas Colbert seems to just spout stories from the 90s lol. At about 4:30 he completely ignores Conan’s story whew boy haha it did sound like Colbert was a bit out of water here
I actually don't mind that Colbert's focus is mostly political now. Jon Stewart left the Daily Show, for one (though Trevor Noah isn't bad, but it's not really the same yet), and also the political world has gotten really frightening and stressful for everyone, no matter what your political beliefs are. So I think having one show that can take all that frightening and stressful stuff and make you see the funny side of it is even more important than ever.
Persøn Human Trevor's show will never be the same as Jon's and that's a good thing. The show needed to change with the times and it changed in a positive way. They have good correspondents that may blow up in five to ten years. But I am glad that Trevor has the same temperament as Jon. He's calm and collected while making fun of the world and for the most part isn't bias.
Also was the aim of the show ever to NOT be political? I mean it's not like Colbert wasn't talking politics pre-Trump. I don't know if people expected it to be like a Fallon/Kimmel/Corden etc type of show and that's why there are complaints, but personally I always expected his show to be quite political. It's pretty much The Colbert Report except he's not playing a character anymore. It was pretty expected imo.
I don't think Colbert was intending to be as political when he started the show. Its simply he does not like trump and everything trump did was new worthy to him.
Y'all chill with Stephen being "overly political" and stop comparing Colbert and Conan. They're two unique late night hosts loved for different things.
They say that, then go and say how much better The Colbert Report was, acting like that wasn't political. It seems like the issue is more with what side he makes jokes about than people actually being "concerned" about him being "too political".
Yeah, 80s to early 2000s were probably the golden years of TV networks. There's now a massive shift to the internet. Lobsters are now but a dream except for TV execs.
Well, they're all act mature with Conan... but when they see something political stained approaching, they go rabid. They're normal people commenters when he's gone. Ignore it, dont worry :)
@@putikeswarasudarsono Nonsense. Go listen to Conan’s podcast with Colbert on. They actually recorded right before that interview and connected heavily in it.
Oh my God, now I got the horse game they both were playing..!!! Conan totally took an entire guest allotment in Colbert's show; so he dropped another horse monologue on Conan's show. I could see why Colbert was yearning to drop the horse bomb from the beginning!!
Possibly somebody in the audience yelling at him for his annoying and constant attack on Trump? They can selectively cut that audio out from what I understand.
It's just his damn face. People say this about me all the time as well and it's honestly annoying when people assume we're upset or giving a "death stare".
After watching the clip again, I'm sure Colbert is embarrassed about his behavior and not being a good role model while I'm sure said some very hypocritical things to his kids and production staff on the Colbert Report and his new show. Maybe a little jealous since Colbert got a big show and Conan is on a smaller network, despite being funnier and the best late night talk show host out right now among 4 major ones.

you can see stephen trying to beat conan using the horse story and trying to ''beat'' him at his show.... but conan is way better and colbert just couldn't with the master
I watched the documentary on The Dana Carvey Show and thought it was hilarious. So I watched all eight episodes of The Dana Carvey Show because it is also on Hulu, and it really sucked. There was about one funny sketch per episode. A lot of the jokes are dated (current events, '96 election), but I'm old enough to understand them. The documentary shows all the best skits anyway.
Did anyone else think that the horse mentioned in the title was the one that Letterman gave Conan? edit: And that Conan forced Colbert to sacrifice it?
Well, yes and no. At the time these stories actually happened, neither one of them were millionaires. The whole point of both stories was that at the time, they were new to entertainment, and were normal guys who had previously never been around that kind of money and considered that level of extravagance to be absolutely insane. And the fact that they're still telling those stories, in still-shocked and bewildered tones, makes it clear that even though they're now both millionaires themselves, they still know the value of a dollar and still find that kind of decadence so over-the-top that it's funny.
I love Conan, I like Stephen very much, I also have great affection for a number of the people they discuss, as well as America and many other nations, plus the human species. But if I ever end up either as a guest or in the audience of a late night talk show and someone whoops, I'll end up on death row, because I swear I will murder them.
You can see the incredible amount of pressure, Colbert is feeling, while speaking Louis C.K.'s name... like he's Voldemort or something... It's just sad.
I also actually dont even like Trump but I think he has no evil intent, and Id rather trust him w nukes than any talk show host or American teen commenter on YT :p
Good point gunther, a teeny might spend half his presidency going on twitter rants against stupid leftist media meanies and that korean dude who also has a nuky nuke :P
No wonder they only lasted 7 episodes. Must have been nice to blow that kind of money on something that stupid. And how the hell did they approve going to Florida? Backdrops is all we get now.
Ikr? Someone who needs to take a political side to make his show work is not worth watching. He has prolonged the Trump thing for far longer than he should have. It's not even funny anymore. I like Conan's approach. Trying to appeal to all audiences. Doing gaming, having comedians, actors, singers and everyone on the show.
colbert bangs on about trump so much it's not funny anymore it's boring and shows lack of creativity conan doesn't need to get political and can make almost any situation funny and is great with guests. he also knows how to work a crowd and has the best remotes. colbert needs trump to make his show work since that's all he talks about.
I still like Colbert. He's funny as hell. But he is way too condescendingly political now. The kind of condescension that implies that other opinions don't matter. I can't stand listening to him now. Make fun of opinions. That's fine, but taking an active role in demonizing an opposite opinion, and you've gone from comedy to activism. You are no longer a comedian at that point. You just become a funnier version of a CNN reporter.
You're wrong, randomflashbacks. Strikerage was trying to vocalize a big concern over Colbert's comedy stylings as of lately. I'm a huge fan of Colbert. I'm not, at all, a fan of DJ Trump. The point is that what you said is correct: Trump supporters do not deserve an ounce of attention for being loud mouthed, circle-jerking deplorables. What you're missing, from that point is that what Strikerage said is what we're concerned about. You took the same position as Colbert, where you nor him thinks that any other opinion doesn't matter if it is not in line with your own. I thought better of Colbert, but Colbert has been proving to be more partisan than anything, as a less funny Comedian, now-in-days. I'm not defending Trump, who I hate, by saying any of this. I am, however, needlessly elaborating on Strikerage's point.
Strikerage it is pretty clear to me that most of his jokes go above your head. If you listened to his monologues attentively (and not just focus on the headlines) you would realize he roasts all sides including media and himself without mercy. He has become much more savage and aggressive now which is good, since these are the times we live in. Comedians now deliver real news and make us think about real issues while the media manufactures news based on their interest.
Random User - There you go again. Just because I don't find his jokes funny doesn't mean it went over my head. Why do Liberals always resort to assuming the intelligence of others? Isn't this why we have Trump as President in the first place?
