I don't remember) who was going to kill herself, but Natasha sends her a thank you note or something and she decides not to kill herself. In the book, Natasha and Daniel see each other on a plane (and they don't kiss lol) and the lady who was going to kill herself is now a flight attendant and she recognizes Natasha and thanks her for saving her life. I liked that part.

I don't know why they used non Jamaican actors though but it is possible to have a lighter skinned baby even if both parents are dark skinned.

My uncle visited puerto rico once with his brother. Uncle who didnt know anyone is T and uncle who had friends is V. So V meets up with friends and drags T along, T meets his friends and my future aunt they spent a few hours together, but my uncle knew she was the one. The next day he had to fly back to washington state where they lived. They exchanged contact information, mind the fact that T spoke english and russian and my aunt spoke limited english at the time (she was still going to school i believe) and mainly spanish. For three months they skyped and called daily, fell in love. My uncle moved there and after a few months proposed. They got married and have been together for almost 10 years and are the strongest people I know. Fun fact V had to translate so much for them bc he learned spanish. Its unlikely for situations like these to happen sure, but its how we meet new people that we are "destined" with

The girl is always really smart and cynical, bonus points if she wants to be a scientist or physicist, or something else that involves math. The boy always believes in fate, and destiny, and stuff, and he usually wants to be a poet or musician. The characters in these book, the sun is also a star, The Fault In our Stars, The Science of Magic, etc. are all literally the same.
Yeah, exactly like after The Hunger Games books became popular their formula (strong cynical teenage girl raised in a poor environment saves a dystopian or some sort of fantasy world and has two love interests) has been reused again and again in every single YA fantasy book.
I didnt actually like the book uk. It was...average. i mean the writing was average. People who loved this book really need to read more. The story of Irene was not followed, and nor was for many characters, and that renders them pointless, just filling up pages and making the book longer than it really should be.
Ok so I read this book today. Literally the entire thing. Cried a heck ton. Maybe I'm just a softie but the movie doesn't do it justice, it's literally devastating. It goes more in depth into the side characters and the family, which makes the whole thing seem less disjointed

Young adult romances just don't translate well to the screen. I really enjoyed the book because it actually does take place in one day, and shows how people's lives affect each other. The actual romance part was secondary to me. The writing and seeing the different background characters lives intertwining was what kept me hooked.

I liked the romance okay, but the best part was the portrayal of all the people that would be 'secondary' or 'unimportant' in any other book, the way they showed all the little interpersonal situations that affected everybody. It was fantastic to watch but it doesn't translate well onscreen, and I feel like they shouldn't have bothered with the movie if they were going to skim on the parts that made the book so special.

@@Ella-yd4re In a lot of ways, they did leave out the parts that made the book so special to me. The book went into so much more detail about who the characters really were. For example: Natasha's relationship with her father and how that explains her disbelief in love, the social worker and his assistant and how their interactions impacted Natasha's life, even the security woman and Natasha's unknowing saving of her life. All of these things made the story so full and real that it makes the movie seem weak.
Rebekah Walton you have to prove that you intend to live a life together with documents ie joint bank accounts, rent/lease agreement, or prove you’ve been in a relationship for a while and if you’ve already been placed in deportation status couples have to try even harder to convince ice agents that they’re together for love and not a green card. It would hard to prove that 2 teenagers that just met would know that they want to spend the rest of their lives together.
No they couldn't have. Everyone just assumes you can marry a citizen and suddenly all your problems go away but they clearly have no idea how it actually works. There are so, so many reasons why that wouldn't have works.

I do, films are usually less detailed than the books they're based on. If I watch the film first I can just enjoy it as a film, then if I read the book I don't find myself distracted by what the film told me. If I read the book first then all I can focus on when watching the film is what they've changed and it really lessens my enjoyment of what might be a good film, just a poor adaptation

okay lemme rant abt this movie real quick: I usually don’t hop on that “tHE bOoK wAs bETteR” train, but in this case...THE BOOK IS BETTER please support Nicola Yoon and read it, the story is so well-written. I have nothing against Yara Shahadi (is that how you spell her name?) but this role was just not for her. The way she tried to embody the character of Natasha just didn’t feel authentic and kinda fell flat sometimes. Also, if they were going to cast Natasha’s whole family as darkskin, why not do the same with Natasha herself? It was so off-putting. They also didn’t included any of the depth with Natasha’s dad and how he got to where he was and that was kind of disappointing ngl The karaoke scene. That’s all I’m gonna say. The one thing that really stood out to me about the book were the alternating storylines with minor characters, and not including them in the movie was probably one of their biggest mistakes. Overall a 4/10, but again please read the book y’all it’s really good.
Its not Yara Shahidi's fault the script writer chose to extract those parts and there's nothing I can say to your opinion about her embodiment of the character,because I think it was done well.
the book ties everything together so nicely, like the paralegal is in love with the lawyer and they end up together and it shows how his kids grew up never believing in love because of that, and another woman was going to kill herself but stays alive bc of the girl and she is later the flight attendant on the plane where they meet again😢
This movie is nothing like the book. It takes away all the great parts i love about the book. Plus there is practically no character development shown in this movie. It makes me so mad.

Young adult romances just don't translate well to the screen. I really enjoyed the book because it actually does take place in one day, and shows how people's lives affect each other. The actual romance part was secondary to me. The writing and seeing the different background characters lives intertwining was what kept me hooked.

I liked the romance okay, but the best part was the portrayal of all the people that would be 'secondary' or 'unimportant' in any other book, the way they showed all the little interpersonal situations that affected everybody. It was fantastic to watch but it doesn't translate well onscreen, and I feel like they shouldn't have bothered with the movie if they were going to skim on the parts that made the book so special.
That's funny cause I enjoyed the movie more than the book. Especially the ending. Especially the tons of french kisses.

The Sun is Also a Star book is one of my favorites, I love Nicola Yoon’s writing so much, but I didn’t even see this movie because the characters looked way older than high school students and it just didn’t feel the same
Tbh it wasn't as good as the book but they didn't change any of plot scenes apart from the end so it was interesting to watch the adaptation. The soundtrack was really the only good thing about the movie
They missed so many details in the book it made me so mad! They skipped the whole scene where they first meet and when they see natashas ex. The red tie! They completely left out the red tie and the ponytail. And I hate how she didn’t have a real afro

@@Ella-yd4re In a lot of ways, they did leave out the parts that made the book so special to me. The book went into so much more detail about who the characters really were. For example: Natasha's relationship with her father and how that explains her disbelief in love, the social worker and his assistant and how their interactions impacted Natasha's life, even the security woman and Natasha's unknowing saving of her life. All of these things made the story so full and real that it makes the movie seem weak.

That's the more realistic plot, but no, they wanted a contrived, stupid plot.
Rebekah Walton you have to prove that you intend to live a life together with documents ie joint bank accounts, rent/lease agreement, or prove you’ve been in a relationship for a while and if you’ve already been placed in deportation status couples have to try even harder to convince ice agents that they’re together for love and not a green card. It would hard to prove that 2 teenagers that just met would know that they want to spend the rest of their lives together.

I do, films are usually less detailed than the books they're based on. If I watch the film first I can just enjoy it as a film, then if I read the book I don't find myself distracted by what the film told me. If I read the book first then all I can focus on when watching the film is what they've changed and it really lessens my enjoyment of what might be a good film, just a poor adaptation

okay lemme rant abt this movie real quick:
I usually don’t hop on that “tHE bOoK wAs bETteR” train, but in this case...THE BOOK IS BETTER please support Nicola Yoon and read it, the story is so well-written.
I have nothing against Yara Shahadi (is that how you spell her name?) but this role was just not for her. The way she tried to embody the character of Natasha just didn’t feel authentic and kinda fell flat sometimes. Also, if they were going to cast Natasha’s whole family as darkskin, why not do the same with Natasha herself? It was so off-putting.
They also didn’t included any of the depth with Natasha’s dad and how he got to where he was and that was kind of disappointing ngl
The karaoke scene. That’s all I’m gonna say.
The one thing that really stood out to me about the book were the alternating storylines with minor characters, and not including them in the movie was probably one of their biggest mistakes.
Overall a 4/10, but again please read the book y’all it’s really good.

the book ties everything together so nicely, like the paralegal is in love with the lawyer and they end up together and it shows how his kids grew up never believing in love because of that, and another woman was going to kill herself but stays alive bc of the girl and she is later the flight attendant on the plane where they meet again😢
