I am 71 and for the past 35 years have been living in a 6 bedroom converted mill, this is the sort of elegant downsizing I am dreaming of, minimal house, minimal garden, minimal upkeep. You must have incredible imagination and training to dream up something like this, so well designed and beautifull.
I love the stealthy exterior which makes it impossible to guess what lies within. The privacy of the inner space really appeals. Then, beyond expectation, is this wonderfully minimalist, light filled interior. The contrast with the 'industrial' neighbourhood just enhances the beauty of the inner living space. I could happily live in a house like that, which says alot about me!😊
I adore these projects where you design around existing constraints. I watched one video and instantly subscribed! I have not been disappointed. Your presentation style is soothing and the content is top-quality.
Gemma, you just solved many architectural space issues that I have had for months. The little windowed garden in the center of the house is brilliant! John in Bethel, Missouri. USA
I absolutely agree with so many other watchers: you have a wonderfully distinctive, relevant, helpful, beautiful way of achieving designs that are accessible, make sense, and are at once enticingly creative and elegantly minimalist. Gratitude 🙏
This is sooo lovely !!!!! It’s so clever . Like the smart plain black exterior , like the inside /outside flexibility . Like the fire . Everything . 🎉🎉🎉
Absolutely stunning design, love watching your videos. The only things I would want is for there to be room around both sides of the bed and to have another exit door. Apart from these, this is a wonderful layout for a tiny home with a secret garden ❤
Brilliant design! Thank you. I’m looking to build a small bungalow in the back of a commercial premises. Space is very tight and this is a great way to make the most of it.
When you first opened the door to the internal garden, I thought, "oh no, she's done that before with the old stone building." But once I saw the reason, that is, privacy from the road/alley, and light in the home, well, brilliantly done. It serves a very different design purpose as the other time you did something similar, and my fear that you were repeating yourself was allayed. Great job, and I really love this.
I love this design. The secret internal world, so light, streamlined. I particularly like the idea of being connected to the weather, the rain for example. I wonder if there would need to be a discreet (1 way viewing?) Option for safety, for seeing who may be out front?
this is amazing! I would totally live in one of these. Couldn't you rearrange it for a family of four?! :) Not that i have the money to buy or build it. But i would love to see the concept play out in a family house. However, i guess the charme of this living in your garden-house open roof thing works best in this tiny-house concept. ... I'm dwelling in imaginations right now.
Hi Gemma, I live in Australia and I just stumbled upon this video of yours by happy accident. This space that you designed is brilliant and I can totally see how this would work in my backyard as a 'granny flat'. Aesthetically pleasing from inside and out, purposeful spaces and connected to nature, all while maintaining privacy for the occupants of both the main house and this tiny home. I have been trying for 2 years to figure out what would work in our backyard and you have designed it perfectly. All without meeting me or seeing my house and yard. ❤❤ Love it. Love it. Love it! ❤❤ Thankyou. I am off to watch all your other clips now. 👁👁 Great work!!
I can picture this, built from scratch, at the end of a garden. From the main house, it looks pretty much like a timber fence down at the end and they can use the main garden without intruding upon the little house resident's privacy. The little house resident has their own private garden as well as access to the main garden.
Another Aussie here, a town planner; I’ve just stumbled across your videos and I’m now binging them! 😅 Your designs are clever and aesthetically appealing and I love listening to you explain the design.
This is the best tiny house layout for shared spaces, or ugly locations. I love it! It's simple elegant, cozy, private and practical it's honestly quite perfect.
I'm an introvert with a tendency towards paranoia about windows and neighbours. I love this house. Apart from it's total privacy it's perfectly designed for relaxed easy living.
A brilliant piece of land management. The UK government should employ you to create affordable housing in brown-field sites. There's millions of bf sites all over the UK just waiting for your undoubted talent. Bravo..! 🎉🎉🎉
This is brilliantly beautiful and inventive. We need more of this kind of creativity in design if we are to embrace the fill in problems of development and the housing crisis in large cities. Love this!
I love your concepts. My only issue with many of them is that the bed is against a wall. It's good for singles or young people, but I hate climbing over my wife or her over me for those mid night bathroom breaks.
And making the bed becomes difficult. I'm all for finding a solution with walk space around the bed if possible. But aside from that, such a lovely plan.
This reminds me of homes I saw in busy parts of Mexico where everyone is crammed together so they basically wall in their tiny piece of property and the home is built in a u-shape around their garden space (courtyard). It’s ultimate privacy and security while living in the city. Love it!!
For homes, I’m accustomed to having a lot of windows for cross-ventilation, enjoying the view, optical illusion… I was intrigued to hear in the beginning that there’s going to be no window in this one. What a daring and beautiful design!
I keep returning to a house for sale which has a workshop and a double length double width garage at the bottom of the garden. It would not take too much work to convert one of them along these lines.
I love this design. The Ancient Romans used indoor gardens and I think we should use them more. As you show here they are great for tiny houses but also for houses by railways or noisy roads.
I think this house is perfect for Urban/Inter Urban living which can be chaotic at times. Have always wanted a house built around a private courtyard, (the way the Romans did), had never considered doing it in an Urban setting, or on this tiny scale. X:)
Just came across this channel randomly and it has been a pleasure. I've always been fascinated with how people define spaces. It made me consider things I wouldn't even thought of when planning out my own space.
Hi Gemma, This house is fantastic. I really love your approach and the results reflect this. It would be really interesting for you to include a rough cost estimate , and break it down to include land/materials/labour. I guess that might be a ton of work, but even a rough estimate would be interesting. All the best Giles Liked and subscribed :)
Gorgeous modern miniaturization of the traditional courtyard home designs of ancient cultures like China and Greece. ❤️ Such a functional layout. The simple materials are like a canvas for the resident to personalize with art and textiles. I’m swooning over that shower skylight!!
I think the only thing I’d change would be from the black exterior to a weathered gray, to blend in more with the existing buildings… or maybe even have a block and concrete exterior wall… LOVE your designs!!!
@m.denonsens572 (watching 4 mo later) Perfect for countries like ours, with a smaller landmass. No coincidence that small Japan and Scandinavian countries are renowned for their well designed, compact dwellings. We could use a wealthy, philanthropist type here who could drive this type of thoughtful, innovative program of creating micro-dwellings up and down the country. A big plus is using land already zoned, not filling in our irreplaceable agricultural land. I'd foresee that, once the ball got rolling, Councils would be falling over themselves to find residential uses for their surplus lots.
I wanted to come back here again really just to say that this is my absolute favourite video so far. I'm dreaming of something amazing as an addition (or standalone in my large backyard) to my current under 500 square foot home. The privacy and beauty aspects of this thing are just impeccable.
I could live in a cosy, beautiful space like this. The internal glazed courtyard concept is genius and I can imagine it would work well in a bigger house too. It’s amazing that a side-windowless house feels so open and inviting. As ever the materials are so tasteful. One of my favourite videos of yours. Looking forward to more.
A beautiful way to fill in some gaps in cities that are short of housing. We are lured to think big is better, but then we spend lots of time and money on maintaining and fussing. My daughter in London would give a kidney for this home. Terrible shortage of good housing and too many greedy landlords
Very creative. I like your solution for so much natural light into such a small space, and the mini garden is genius. I would have this built ... if I had the money.
Dear Gemma, your designs for rehabbing old abandoned buildings, are absolutely, breathtakingly delightful! I’ll share a secret: a 90-year-old Yank has fallen in love with you. Bob Campbell
If it was a slightly iffy area I think industrial metal cladding might be better for the street side, safer & more secure, but other than that I think it would be amazing..
My daughter's ex was raised in Mexico. His family had a beautiful house built & i'm told most have interior courtyards. While visiting, she called me & alto she was sitting inside, all i could hear was birds singing. It sounded so peaceful.
Absolutely beautiful… love the small courtyard, i wish more construction projects will apply this idea of internal courtyards, best way to have outdoor space with maximum privacy ❤
Hi Gemma, I love the idea of urban tiny houses but they always seem to lack privacy and outdoor space. Your design is AMAZING! I have watched and rewatched this so many times and it's such a great template to add small changes to make it your own. Now to find me a plot of land in Central London......
Beautiful clever design. I might add a waterfall or Fountain feature inside the courtyard to add to the Natural feel but also to filter out the street noise
I love how open it is internally yet totally private at the same time. Love to see you go through your designs and explain your thinking. Making something great out of something small is a great thing! 🙂
If I made one change to this it would be to give some sort of access to the roof and make the exterior "taller" for a little privacy up there, maybe add some plants seating and a little firepit or something, i dunno. Really amazing job.
I absolutely love this little space. It's a great combination of inside and outside space, which, I personally believe, we all need. I could still grow my own food, as well as have a cosy escape from outside. Nature is not far from us all, so if I wanted it, I could just step outside and take a walk. I'm a 54 year young man, living in Zwolle, The Netherlands, living in a small apartment, close to the centre, but fortunately with a huge balcony. A fantastic space for outside living, growing fruit and vegetables, relaxing. (I think you'd like it and could do wonders 😊). Thank you for sharing this. It's beautiful 😍

Oh yes! I’m 75, would love a cute little place like this - it’s beautiful!
Sounds lovely

This is my favorite of what I have seen of Gemma's designs. Incorporating an inner courtyard into a tiny house design is brilliant.
Gemma, you just solved many architectural space issues that I have had for months. The little windowed garden in the center of the house is brilliant!
John in Bethel, Missouri. USA
So pleased to hear this.
What a great little design, I would love to stay there for a weekend a
Wao mashaAllah so beautiful love from pakistan 🇵🇰
I absolutely agree with so many other watchers: you have a wonderfully distinctive, relevant, helpful, beautiful way of achieving designs that are accessible, make sense, and are at once enticingly creative and elegantly minimalist. Gratitude 🙏
Beautiful. It reminds me of the fishermen’s huts that you find along the coast.
How much talent have you Gemma! Congratulations you do a wonderful work
I am so impressed with your creativity Gemma. You have a real talent that is inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Utterly enchanting.
Gorgeous, beautiful and private so you can totally relax while living there. What everyone would want in a tiny space
Fantastic city pad. Private but open. Intimate but not cramped. Love it. Gemma is gorgeous too!
This is sooo lovely !!!!! It’s so clever . Like the smart plain black exterior , like the inside /outside flexibility . Like the fire . Everything . 🎉🎉🎉
I absolutely love this house. I am not complimentary! Your talent is ridiculous.
Wow, just wow!
This design really works
Absolutely stunning design, love watching your videos. The only things I would want is for there to be room around both sides of the bed and to have another exit door. Apart from these, this is a wonderful layout for a tiny home with a secret garden ❤
beautiful concept; very Zen, almost Japanese inspired?
Brilliant design! Thank you. I’m looking to build a small bungalow in the back of a commercial premises. Space is very tight and this is a great way to make the most of it.
I love that more than I can say and would love to live in it.
An introverts dream home ( mine) !
Love this concept!
This is an amazing design!!! I absolutely love it.
Beautiful design. More storage beneath sofa would be good.

This is so extremely clever. I love it
So sweet! I could live there.
I love this design. The secret internal world, so light, streamlined. I particularly like the idea of being connected to the weather, the rain for example. I wonder if there would need to be a discreet (1 way viewing?) Option for safety, for seeing who may be out front?
Your designs are beautifull.
I'm ready to move in! ❤
I love it.
Love this so much
Love this design, although I’ve have to have a major sort out. But a great design.
Excellent!
this design would also go great underground
I love it!
Beautiful!

Courtyard homes are traditional in many places of the world, including Mexico. They can certainly be larger than this design.
This is so insight full❤
So smart!!! ❤
What dimensions are you assuming? Just came across your channel and love it!
Would skylights work? Above the couch, kitchen, bed?
❤🏡
People don't rate privacy as high as they should. So critical to health
I really enjoy the interior of this house. However, I personally am not a fan of the flat roof and the facade sticking out like a necrotic thumb.

@@NilZed1 what a great idea. I wonder what the footprint is?

Yep this little home is perfect for us introverts!
Hear! Hear! :)

The RUclips recommendation gods have truly blessed me today, what an absolutely stunning little place!

Same here, love the interior but finding the cladding distracting
What a stunning little place and all the timber
Such a stunning solution. There are so many odd spaces going to waste while the affordable housing crisis goes on. Brilliant, thank you!

Fabulous, Gemma needs her own TV program...
Absolutely love this design! So happy to have stumbled on to your channel. Now off to watch the rest of your ideas. 😊❤
The little courtyard is genius and makes the whole thing not just possible but delightful

i love architecture...id never go back to school for it but i do love studying it and getting ideas from it
This might be my very favorite tiny house! Brilliant design.
