The first thought I had when I saw the item was "I wonder what Gemma would do with that property"... now I know!

@@gemmawheelerI was so sure you were going to have to do an outside addition again, but then you didn’t! I think for any more usable space you’d have to dig! 😂 The only one of my favorite tiny house tricks you didn’t use was an elevator bed. Using some sort of hydraulic and/or crank system to haul the bed up into the loft space during the day, and down into the main space at night would be the only way I could live in something like this (I’m too old for lofts!). But that would require a lot of redesign, and it might ruin everything else. So impressed with this one!

    • @BettinaSchnerr
      @BettinaSchnerr 10 месяцев назад +6

Count me in - I would have made any bet, that Gemma would add some extension. To bring so much storage into this space and how it was done in detail, is creative and shows how much we still can make with older properties. No need to tear all the buildings down for newer ones - but not necessarily better ones.

I bought a "portable" Japanese tub, and it's life changing. The narrowness and increased depth means the water stays hot forever. It does present an increased risk of turning into a huge walking raisin, but it's worth it because it just soaks away all those homicidal urges that arise from news watching.

Absolutely wonderful as always. My only teeny tiny niggle would be the practicality of the drop down storage spaces in the kitchen living area. Just being overly practical, I wonder if things would slide around, during the the raising and lowering off them. Not as neat, but high small open shelves running round any available wall would be my solution, and/or a small butchers block on wheels that can be moved around the place as mobile storage, work top/side table. I’m just joe public though, so don’t listen to me. Love your work, always excited to see you next video… 😊

    Ingenious solutions!
One common design--that of putting the bed up near the rafters--is something I personally would have trouble adjusting to over the long term. Besides the claustrophobic feeling, I don't like managing the sheets and blankets from that position. I did manage it during a week-long stay in a rental once, though I didn't have to fully make the bed during that time.

Wow! Your best one yet, Gemma! It’s like you took every one of my favorite tiny house tricks (like pull down kitchen storage, in-floor loft storage, and a Japanese tub) and rolled them all into one fabulous package! My favorite part was how you created the desk on the open cupboard doors. And that hammock chair in front of the projection TV/movie screen! Genius. I couldn’t live in this space, because I’m old enough to need access to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and there is no way I am climbing up and down that ladder multiple times every night. 😂 But for a healthy younger person (who is pretty minimalist and isn’t afraid of heights!) this would be just fabulous. 🎉 ❤

I think this is an absolute genius design, literally the only thing that gave me pause was storing the hammock chair above to the kitchen as I wonder whether you might get problems from food smells and aerolised oil and grease, but there are definitely ways to avoid that. Suggestion from a person who lives in a micro home...
Vertical cupboards (like the one at bed or by the ladder) are a huge pain if doors need to be pulled out or lifted. Sliding doors are much better but in some cases an open space is far more functional. The cubbies built into the bed platform are also cool but where do the lids go? It's so easy to bang against stuff, knock things over, have stuff fall off the loft. I really dig that minimalist clean style you utilize but sometimes it's just not doable. Bathroom is amazing!! Always love your work.

I wish more designs incorporated Japanese deep bathtubs. The wet room and deep baths that are part of most homes in Japan are fabulous. Even the 'sink' located in the toilet tank makes so much sense and saves space in a small toilet room.

Bliss. I even saw this building up for sale and thought the right person could make it a wonderful tiny home and here it is.... Someone could be very lucky indeed! ❤

This has to be one of my favourite of your designs, Gemma. The storage space especially is so clever, and has made me rethink some of the solutions in my own home. While large grand designs are desirable, I do think that smaller, cleverly designed living spaces are the way forward if we are to meet our undersupply of housing in the UK.

I look at Rightmove most days for properties within 30 miles of me. Yet when I saw this I had dismissed it. Probably because of my age, I couldn’t see it mostly because I dismissed stairs. You have made an incredible transformation

I always love your work Gemma, but was surprised you jumped right into the renovation this time. Usually you do a lovely few moments of your analysis of the light, layout, and other considerations that guided your design. I missed that so much this time. I hope you haven't decided to remove those elements permanently. I'd happily watch a longer video to have them. As always though, your design are thoughtful and lovely. Thank you!

Thanks so much for that feedback. Those are still really important considerations that I use. Sometimes on spaces this small, the only analysis possible is on how I can use the space efficiently without disrupting the attractive features like the big windows and the fireplace. So that's why I jumped straight in by starting with using the height of the space. But there'll be more analytical projects in future, most likely when there's more space to play with.

Now you're just showing off! 🙂This is superb. I especially like the bath tub and there being no TV on the wall, just the projector. I often sit in my lounge watching on my iPad with the big TV off anyhow. I think the days of a lounge being dominated by a huge TV are drawing to a close.

Reminds me of the tiny homes showcased on 'Living Big in a Tiny House' though most of these are towable. Their ideals are similar - trying to get as much 'living' out of a small space as possible, doubling up on furniture usage - your guest bed from the bench seat was clever, Gemma - and of course, making use of every spare inch for storage. Your pull-down shelving from the rafters was genius.

I would prefer an actual comfortable couch and forgo the guest sleeper. Air mattress would be just as functional as the fold out bed option. I don’t mean to only have negatives to say, I really enjoy your ideas!

This might be your best yet! The window area that turns into a desk and a dining table is so clever, but the storage in the floor/ceiling of the loft just blew my mind.
