Sadly the UK government don't support tiny house living. Yet homes like this could prevent families facing eviction to have their own individual space. Rather than spending months in hotel rooms that are costing councils thousands. Causes distress to children that end up homeless through no fault of their own. Tiny houses could also end the homeless crisis.
Think the issue is that due to housing standards, it now means that local government cannot house people in places that are considered overcrowded. People who are waiting get more points the more overcrowded they are, but there are fewer homes for large families as most are two or three bedrooms. Which means ironically also, if people have more kids they wait longer. If they then become homeless they can only access emergency accommodation, so hotels /hostels which are renewed on a daily basis often or very short renewal. People would also be worried if they accepted the tiny homes that they would then be less of a priority than others who didn’t and would wait even longer for a home of the size they need.

You need to go look at land over the UK. All over the UK, farm land is being sold off for pennies. You can get yourself, close to an acre of land for under £10k. It;s just about looking and not really caring where you buy. Further, you can easily get a land mortage from the bank or somewhere else. They usually require 30% down payment at 20+ years of payments so, if you find something for £20,000, put 30% down which is around £6,000, you'd only being paying £300-£400 a month, probably less ( Im terrible at math past certain points) which is far less than rent, far more sustainable and far better.
@@sloht4061you would still need planning permission, and that's the difficulty. Even farmers who own the land aren't permitted to live in a caravan on it for more than a few days per year - and even then, they have to demonstrate that it's work related (e.g. They're monitoring their herd). I've seen you add the same comment a few times, and argue with others about being too stuck on rules. The land must have been gifted to them, as there's no way the land price included in the total £35k build cost. It's a gorgeous tiny-home build, and the couple's achievement deserves all of the applause - but it's a little disingenuous to imply others can do the same, because they couldn't in this location without wealthy benefactors.

I guess that the "builder" father helped enormously in the build of this home and I'm presuming the couple are on the parents property and there's maybe no rent there. It's a fairly wide TH so that helps a lot in it feeling spacious. I like the kitchen especially the countertops and the plug in hob to increase counter space. The height in the kitchen increases the sense of space. All in all a very nice home. Well done to the builders!
The dish drying rack in a cupboard thingy. I used to live in a rented apartment here in Sweden where there was such a dish drying rack in a cupboard over the sink. And there was no bottom in the cupboard, so excess water would drip right down into the sink. And it helped with air circulation around the drying dishes. Not super common here in Sweden, but someone told me that design was common in Finland. Very convenient, anyways!
yes, nearly all Finnish houses have this type of drying rack in cupboard thingy. Perhaps some new builds don't have that anymore, but it is very common in here.
Hands down, one of the most beautiful little homes this channel has featured. Equally beautiful and inspiring is how the couple living in it have been able to find fulfillment in their lives with this little house.
Outstanding build - and in England! It would have been interesting to know how the land was found / acquired - it’s one of the biggest limitations for most people in this country as land is so expensive - and what planning requirements there were.
My guess is it’s built on parents’ land. So probably not achievable for the majority of young people here in the UK, unless they have parents who already have enough suitable spare land (and friendly local planning departments - which is often an oxymoron!) 🙂
Land is so costly and hard to find in the UK and planning permission is such a slow process, a major block to many people who would love to live like this and may have the funds to build a tiny house with reclaimed and recycled materials, it would be my dream but I think you have to be very rich to source and secure land sadly
@@nicolad8822 I don’t think it being mobile makes any difference, if it’s used as a primary residence, maybe they’ve somehow got around this because they don’t live in it all year round (their work forces them to tour and live elsewhere). A temporary building can be up to 3 metres tall if more than 2m from boundaries, and not require planning permission, however this applies to workshop/home office buildings without toilet etc that you don’t live in. I would have thought they would have required planning permission, and inspections to check they have met building standards, even though the interview gives the impression it was a roughly sketched DIY project. As you and others have suggested, they have probably built this on their parents or other benefactors land. Not really an option for most in UK.
I was waiting to see if anyone was going to mention the backsplash in particular - it's so gorgeous! It could only be more perfect if it was a leftover/steal of a deal to get.
I saw a documentary on RUclips about large communities living in tiny houses as neighbours in America. Wish this could happen in the UK too. every door had a number, every street had a name, it was a proper village made of tiny houses. I love the idea.
@@moominmayyea they mentioned the cost of the build but how much did the land they built on cost. Yea lovely tiny house but they really didn’t give the true cost of this. Land that has planning permission is very expensive especially where they are located.
@@locolupe2 it’s so frustrating when they only half report like this! Thank you Bryce, outstanding video👍🏻🤗🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻!!
Love the phenomenal roof lines and exterioral elements of this home. I also love the living room area, the spaciousness in the loft, and especially that faucet for the vanity! Absolutely an amazing shoot living big in a tiny house! 👌❤️👍
You can see that Harrie and Joe made wonderful memories with Harrie's dad, Mick, along with the tiny house. The stories told on this channel show that self-builds are far more than just about somewhere to live; it seems to me that the people involved get even more out of the experience - new life skills, a sense of accomplishment and a different way of looking at life. I also have to admit to being a little envious of Harrie (tongue in cheek) making a living from reading - my absolute dream! And always nice to see fellow Pratchett fans :)
Ok, this is hands down, my very favorite build on this channel. It's so homey-I love it so much and would purchase the house plans if they could come up with one! (Here's a side gig for y'all-do the work one time to get the plans drawn up and then sell copies. PLEASE!!). I hope they see my post-I'm truly serious❤️
Oh my goodness! What a glorious home. Harri and Joe have created the most aesthetically beautiful house with such a joyous vibe. Harry is a hoot. Found myself smiling the whole way through this one. 🦋
What a darling couple. It was so exiting to listen to them talk about how they got EVERYTHING. Windows on Facebook marketplace, counters made for wood used while building, the sink is one of the neighbors pots. The chairs, I’m guessing not their style, but Free from a restaurant giving them away beat even $1!! They just got everything they could and put it together so creatively it’s just incredible. Makes me want to go small. And I am the JUNK queen. I keep Everything! I always find some good use for it. But honestly, I am working on that and dejunking is absolutely more fun than I ever imagine! So much so , that it makes me think I can pare down enough, give my adult kids the things they were going to get when I die- now, and that opens up so much extra space. It’s so fun to imagine. I am glad they led and we can now follow with lots of advice.
Just beautiful! They have a right to be so proud of their achievement! If they remain grateful & humble the blessings will continue to flow their way! Like your postings, this home is truly an inspiration & motivation!

I had to comment on this one, because this house is just so pretty and well designed. I love that any plans were flexible enough to just change direction as things came along, and bring it all together so well. Seriously wonderfully stylish home which was created at an incredibly low cost ! Also exciting - Bryce was in Hertfordshire... !!

I loved this video, Bryce--and as usual you're a terrific host, drawing out your guests and exclaiming over every detail with (seemingly) genuine enthusiasm.
Quite, in my experience unless you have family with land its pretty impossible to put a tiny home anywhere other than a caravan park if you are lucky - this aspect really needs to be mentioned in order to help us here in the UK create more possibilities as its more than needed here with the cost of rents etc
Apart from the beautiful home, what a lovely couple! The humour and love just oozes from this home and the colours they have chosen and the light? Just beautiful!!
Lovely couple, lovely home! And yay, Harrie's dad for helping with the build! 👏Having a "front" door and back yard (even if tiny ; - ) is something that's been important to me in my tiny house designs because I value having a private garden/relaxation space. Also love the prioritization of bathroom space and a comfortable living room. Kudos!
@@deb9806 I've wondered that too, although the closet in my bathroom in my regular size apartment does NOT get damp or humid unless I leave it open, and neither do the drawers and cabinets. But I never open the closet while there's steam still in the air. Would be curious to hear from people who have a clothing closet in their tiny bathroom how it has worked out for them. : - )

This is one of the best builds i've seen. Inside and out, it doesn't come off as a 'tiny house'. It looks like a small scale house, that would not look out of place in most neighborhoods. Kudos to the builders.

And to Bryce, I am just glad they killed your acting career, because now we get to see all this creative tiny homes👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The home looks like something on an old postcard- beautiful in its simplicity. The gardens out front and the cafe lights at night create an ambiance that makes the home seem like a vacation spot. Their smart use of reclaimed materials and their own hard work with their dad's guidance created a home with a price point so low that it stuns the mind! I'm so happy the home has allowed them to build careers they love, all while being able to put money aside!
Your summing up says it all, Bryce. This has been the springboard for them to lead the lives of their choosing. I love the outside & garden area & am totally wowed by the inside with its cosy, cottagey vibe. The colour scheme is so cheerful - and the eclectic mix of paint, tiles, wallpaper & furniture just 'works'. Kudos to a lovely couple.
What a fun couple! Both are hilarious and have a great positive energy. Beautiful home and even more impressive considering so much of it was scavenged!
This is THE best tiny house I've ever seen. The layout is beautiful and spacious, with so many interesting little details. I love that there's a real living room...in too many tiny homes, the living room seems like an afterthought with an uncomfortable wooden bench with some cushions that serves as a sofa. And the reading "room" above the living room is a sweet little area that serves a real purpose. I love everything about this house...Harrie and Joe did a great job in building their perfect home.
I love this house, but also love this couple! I'm still smiling -- this is one of my favorite episodes of my favorite RUclips channel! Bryce is by far and away the BEST of the tiny house narrators -- and the enthusiasm he brings to the table makes each house seem terrific. He didn't have to work hard on this one though!!!
It's official!!!! I have found my favourite tiny house! Yes, indeed ❤ That combination of reclaimed, new, colourful and adaptive design is perfection to me. The repeat of blues throughout (the perfect accompaniment to those orange chairs) was a wise choice. And that hook on the 'broken' cistern? We have a long chunky bolt on ours (not as elegant as this solution 😅). Love love love!
What an exceptional home! One of the best here. I like that it is lived in (as opposed to a B&B) and that so much of it was cleverly sourced. They kept the costs down but still managed to create a simple, down-to-earth home with touches of luxury. A wonderful color scheme, as well. The "drying cabinet" above the sink is a feature that my husband and I might just borrow when we commence with our 12 x 34 foot (totally off-grid) build, next year.
When/if you borrow this idea of a drying rack, please ensure that the cabinet doesn't have a bottom. I have no idea how anything can dry in the closed cupboard in the UK...
@halflink I had thought about that. Generally, the drying racks I have seen are open to air and not enclosed... Using some kind of mesh or grid as the bottom of such a cabinet would serve to allow more air in and provide any drops of a water an easy exit, I would imagine.
Having watched now so many of your videos.. I want to thank you Bryce, for doing this, you are made for this, each time your bring this brand new enthusiasm to the table, allowing each owner of the tiny houses we get to see shine. You are a marvel! Please keep it up.
Move over, Harrie and Joe! I could just move right in. What an extraordinary house. It's so beautiful on the outside and spacious yet cozy on the inside. I love it! I agree with Bryce that the living room just "pulls you in", and the outdoor space is gorgeous. And what an amazing price for this build! I am very impressed! This is definitely one of my new favourites!
What a lovely little house. I especially like all the colours they have used, I think it makes it feel more homely and cosy. That traffic is noisy though!

This is what happens when creativity meets resourcefulness. Plus a gung-ho DIY attitude. It's far from homogenous-looking tinies that populate the tiny home channels - a reflection of their personas, not that of the builders. They also have this serene, likeable energy that's easy to connect with. Lovely gardens as well - with those giant leaves of nasturtiums taking centerstage. Great episode, Bryce and Rasa ❤

The CLOCK! The backsplash! The teals and greens! The everything! Just lovely!
I was waiting to see if anyone was going to mention the backsplash in particular - it's so gorgeous! It could only be more perfect if it was a leftover/steal of a deal to get.
I cannot believe they were able to create such a beautiful home for less than $45,000. Well done!
I saw a documentary on RUclips about large communities living in tiny houses as neighbours in America. Wish this could happen in the UK too. every door had a number, every street had a name, it was a proper village made of tiny houses. I love the idea.
I’m not sure they did build it that cheap as the actual land cost itself wasn’t addressed…
There’s trillions of videos to give you ideas on how to design and build tiny houses but what’s lacking is how to identify and go about purchasing land in the UK for your property project. I’m sure it would be very helpful for folks to learn about the feasibility in the real world of making such a housing option happen!
I absolutely love old oak floors! They did a great job of refinishing them. And those entrance doors - Wow! Their entire build is just phenomenal. Those two are super creative and really made good use of all that space while making it look very homey.
Lovely couple. They're both very lucky to have each other. Heart warming to watch them. That's what I never got but totally what I envision for my kids! God bless!
What a cute couple! They deserve every good thing coming their way!
Wow!! By far, this is the ABSOLUTE BEST video on Tiny Homes I’ve seen on RUclips in the last 5 years!! Hattie & Joe had the perfect TIMING!
Her father’s master building skills, a desire to learn, to improve their overall lifestyle, better manage their finances, creative sourcing of goods/building materials, creative recycling/up-cycling, etc!
The entire home is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL, PRACTICAL, & COMFORTABLE!! Nothing would need to be changed!! Unless, they really need/want more room!!
*** Did they purchase the land they built on?
Thank you Bryce, outstanding video👍🏻🤗🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻!!
I agree. The repurposing, recycling, up cycling, free stuff, fabulous!
Such a beautiful home and a happy loving couple. Wishing them every success.
What a LOVELY couple! This is without doubt my favourite Tiny house! ☺️
This is phenomenal. The house has got to be one of the best tinies I’ve ever seen in every way. They’ve built a spectacular home for themselves!
So agree, would love to purchase house plans from this amazing couple.
Yes please!
Yes please!! ✨☀️✨
This has to be one of my favourites, light, bright spacious and looks like a real home.
Just beautiful! They have a right to be so proud of their achievement! If they remain grateful & humble the blessings will continue to flow their way!
Like your postings, this home is truly an inspiration & motivation!
What a delightful couple, and Joe is hilarious! Their home is a joy - well done them! A shout out too to 'Dad' for his skills and support. I grew up in England so am loving the latest UK videos. Thanks Bryce and Rasa! I had tickets this weekend for the Tiny Home expo in Adelaide, South Australia, where I now live, but I'm gutted as recent knee surgery is preventing me from going. 😢
If you feel well enough to go ….. GO! You can use a wheelchair or maybe a knee support 2 wheeler.
@@nicklenightsjust what I was about to write.
@@nicklenights .. How nice! Thanks for the encouragement. ❤ Sadly I mustn't overdo things and I don't have a wheelchair anyway. Without being able to explore the homes (too many steps) it would be very frustrating. I can go next time.
@@nicklenights ... Found out later from his Instagram account that Bryce was to be at the Expo here! 🙈 I would love to have said Hi. I've followed LBIATH for nearly 5 years.
Wow! The “B Role” of him sitting on the toilet 🚽 lol 😂 The cost was amazing $42,000 (in American dollars 💵) WOW - great home 🏡
Just started watching this video and to me this is the best looking home on your show, ever
How did they get so much out of the 10X30 dimensions? This is incredible! LOVE seeing a living room that one can actually live in.
This is a lovely house. It oozes personality and it's so charming and comfy looking. Harri and Joe would be fun to live next door to. I liked them and their beautiful home.
This video should have far more likes. 30 really! Deserves more.
This is one of the loveliest "Tinies" ever---the inside is a big WOW with all the teals, greens, and oranges. And Harrie and Joe are a delight: they're funny and charming. I loved this video, Bryce--and as usual you're a terrific host, drawing out your guests and exclaiming over every detail with (seemingly) genuine enthusiasm.
I’m impressed their British council planning dept were with this our council very different in my part of uk
Quite, in my experience unless you have family with land its pretty impossible to put a tiny home anywhere other than a caravan park if you are lucky - this aspect really needs to be mentioned in order to help us here in the UK create more possibilities as its more than needed here with the cost of rents etc
@@zat6442I suspect they are on family land.
Kudos!
I liked that too. I always wonder though when they store clothes in bathroom, does it make them damp or humid with shower etc.
@@bellaluce7088 I’m sure it will vary by the weather and size of bathroom and doors etc.. I also have seen some without doors just a pole and I just shuddered because that’s not good.
@@deb9806 I once had clothes in closet in a "regular" house mold just because there was too little insulation in the exterior wall, so I get the concern.
The best example of a magical tiny home!
The land situation really needs mentioning - how did they manage to place themselves there - UK is ridiculously difficult
I am scrolling through the comments looking for that info too, lol
I’m looking for that answer too.
obvi an inside connection
@@j-5474-k9z exactly my thoughts. That or the land already has planning consent for residential use.
@@denisesilvaart It still would be too expensive to buy in Hertfordshire for two jobbing actors (or have any cash left after this for building). Yes, the land bit was clearly glossed over (probably was recorded but edited out following lots of comments about privileged landowners to the videos of previous UK tiny houses)
I love the Color combination and the natural motivation of house they have~!!! What a wonderful space~!!
One of my favorites, their personalities really just shine throughout their home! Thank you! 💙👏
What a spectacular tiny house with so much character! I love that they weren't afraid of color! Gray and white is so boring. This space was warm and welcoming, a true home!
As beautiful as the exterior was, I wasn’t prepared for how gorgeous the interior was. Just dreamy.
Words cannot express how this home affects me. It's brilliant - simply...BRILLIANT.
Wow!! This house checks every single winning tiny house boxes! Design, aesthetics, functionality, comfort, beautiful surrounding, incredible cost, etc.! Those extra 2 feet in width make a massive difference. I think I’m gonna have to rearrange my Top 5 of your videos! ❤ P.S., loved Rasa’s shot of them both on the upstairs and downstairs rooms. It really highlighted the generous space they have!
Wonderful home Harri and Joe built with Mivk as their mentor. Wonderful that they have the best of both worlds, happy lives and happy careers.
This dynamic couple have designed and built a magnificent home...the price (yes 3 years ago)is amazing, but re using items, finding free things, and not being in a rush to complete it as given them a home to be proud of & now no payments...awesome!!!
This is one of the best builds i've seen. Inside and out, it doesn't come off as a 'tiny house'. It looks like a small scale house, that would not look out of place in most neighborhoods. Kudos to the builders.
A huge thanks to Audible for sponsoring this episode and helping to make these videos possible! Please help support our channel by signing up for a free Audible trial using our link ( audible.com/livingbigtinyhouse ). We really hope you enjoy this weeks episode. Harrie and Joe are so much fun and we absolutely loved filming this episode. They are both such wonderful characters who have managed to build a home which is almost as charming as they are! Thanks for watching and supporting our channel! With Love, Bryce & Rasa
Clever that Audible is the sponsor and the woman of the house narrates audio books. But I'm confused. Where is her vocal booth at 18:10 ? (not the closet with the bags 8:52)
@@AdeleMcAlearyou can see it at the beginning when they are outside. she points to it. it's a separate space from the house.

Whoa. This is such a wonderful couple! Good for them and they have such a beautiful home.
Love these two!! Funny & creative. The house is awesome. Super cute & cozy. Great video!!
OK, Bryce knows I usually cry. So-- I cried at the welcome sign, and then at the three of you in the rain. You seem like such wonderful people. And, I love the house! Regards from Indiana!
Oh my goodness!!!! That is my new all time favorite. From the outside to the inside it is fabulous.
My favourite house so far. Unbelievably adorable house and couple. I wish them juicy roles and years of happiness in their home.
What an incredible place! Such a lovely couple who really appreciates their surroundings, opportunities and each other! Thanks for sharing your life with us!
I love everything about this place. It really is beautiful. Congratulations guys. Well done.
Oh wow!!! This is one of the most amazing tiny house I have ever seen! It’s absolutely stunning and impressive! Well done to you guys for opening the doors of your tiny home to all of us. And to Bryce, I am just glad they killed your acting career, because now we get to see all this creative tiny homes👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Beautiful tiny home,Beautiful people.
My favorite couple! And house! I think this is one of the best tiny houses i have seen. Very beautiful!
Love the personality of this tiny. Rustic on the outside, but quirky on the inside, and so colorful! I would never get bored, living in this house.
A beautiful home and so close to London!!! WOW, thanks for sharing. Lots of luck in their careers.
This house is beautiful because of the beautiful people who live in it.
Love the different colours and textures, has to be a top 5 interior. Unique and beautiful.
These two are aesthetic wizards, every inch fits their chosen colour palate, even their outfits for the episode 😍
Glad to see someone else noticed that they wore clothes that matched their color scheme. 😁
Another beautiful result and nice people. So happy for them.
My favourite tiny house to date. I love it to bits. The design, decor, and the lovely people inside.
408 square feet is a nice size
Hello
How are you doing
@halflink I had thought about that. Generally, the drying racks I have seen are open to air and not enclosed... Using some kind of mesh or grid as the bottom of such a cabinet would serve to allow more air in and provide any drops of a water an easy exit, I would imagine.
Mick ❤ you’re a legend Sir! Dads are so undervalued in today’s society and you’re a shining example ❤ bravo 🙌
That's incredible for £35k. One of the nicest tiny houses I've seen in desgin. And they built it for that cheap. Inspiring honestly.
and 50k worth of free labour , lets be realistic

Move over, Harrie and Joe! I could just move right in. What an extraordinary house. It's so beautiful on the outside and spacious yet cozy on the inside. I love it! I agree with Bryce that the living room just "pulls you in", and the outdoor space is gorgeous. And what an amazing price for this build! I am very impressed! Just when I think I have seen my favorite tiny house this one appears! Cannot find anything I would change either inside our out. Amazing build!
