the BEST position to be in. No other Man with endless money has aspired that... which is why he is such a gift to you humans who have ruined the world.
As much as I admire and definitely encourage this way of thinking, I also believe that it's easy to get lost in an endless search for something that you will never be able to find an answer to and miss out on being present and enjoying whatever you have at the moment, including the bliss of obliviousness.
As a day to day rule you need to just have fun and feel okay with what you have. I know for me I feel very content most of the time but sometimes I tend to think about things a little deeper and it hurts not having any hope of a better human condition. It is important we have people who spend their day to day building a future so that we regular working people can support and believe in that cause.
But don't you think the peace, good health(vaccines and stuff) and food security we have, that even enable us to enjoy the present is a result of people like Elon. People that pushed science and capitalism that ultimately created this better world. I mean, no offence, but good luck enjoying the present with malnutrition, small pox and cholera hanging over your back. We need the sacrifice of these men to create that environment. Even monks who fully own the lifestyle of solely in the present depend on donations from well-wishers, who sacrifice their present for a better life for others.a
It's my first comment on RUclips ever. It is so satisfying to hear one of richest humans on the planet to show aspirations that I (and I presume most of us) once held dear but had to set aside in favor of earning a living (again like most of us) and thus become an average person. It is gratifying to know that there are people who have the resources to not worry about earning a living and who are dedicated to exploring our existence, the universe and the meaning of life, rather than succumbing to the defeatist mindset of retreating into the "internal world" and similar distractions. I really wish that Musk and other humans like him carry on our quest for meaning and do not waste their time in distractions (of the sort we often see them wasting time in).
but you won't be around to see the question being asked, and the universe may suffer heat death before that ever happens. so back to square one. what's the point of it all? is it just the struggle against impossible odds?
@cagneybillingsley2165 Nah. The point, or rather our point, is to get the next generation to get to that point. Ours isn't the destination. We are simply messengers passing on the batton.
I retired 5 years ago. Few millions are available. Saw the world, flew around in private jets. Had the finest things in life. I’m going back to work. Not because I need the money. I need the challenge, schedule, and deadlines. Money has nothing to do with it.
Yeah I can have a great year and make plenty to not have to work for quite a while also. However I get bored and it feels wrong to not work for some reason. So I just keep on going.
@@bjenkins803 work is good for your mental health. If you can’t stay busy with life and hobbies then yep, you may as well go back to work if you like it 👍
@KJ Yungg I own a construction business. However anyone can retire by 40 if you start your career after college and live a very simple life with minimal car payments and housing cost. Invest the money instead for 20 years and use that towards your real living when you get older. I started late but we are own our way.
Elon Musk has mentioned that he cannot turn off his brain, that ideas are basically flooding his brain 24/7. He is gifted, a savant. To retire and get comfortable would actually be torture for him because he would feel like he is wasting his time on earth with the rare gift he has.
Most people wont realize and less will appreciate that he’s answered this question numerous times with the same answer and the humility to not tell reporter to ask a different question.
@@Primitive_Code True, but making money is no longer his main objective. Like so many rich people, they always want more they never have enough. At least Musk is doing things to either try and help humanity and or bring justice into play and put a stop to try to censuring free speech, etc.

Satire may be funny but it doesn't usually leave a deep impression. I obtain more value from sci fi movies/books because they usually are escapist but can also be serious.
"The more we can expand the scope and scale of consciousness, the better we can understand what questions to ask about the answer that is the universe." ~Elon Musk
@MrGriff305 That is such a resentful thing to say, and you probably don't even know it. Genius is when people are intelligent and creative, which Elon is. He doesn't have to speak like some kind of wizard. And reducing his success with Tesla and SpaceX to a string of luck shows you have no idea how much work it takes. Car companies and Space companies are some of the hardest companies to create. Given his money you would by fancy cars and a fancy house and make nothing of it.
@MrGriff305 Elon is a genius no matter how much money he grew up with. He's got common sense besides. Do I detect a bit of envy because he may have grown up with wealth?
I believe the meaning of life is to enjoy your life... and I honestly think the best way to do that is to enjoy giving more than receiving.... when you enjoy giving more, you can get a lot more done and experience a lot more... because we need other people's consciousness to be happy... we need orher peoples mentalities in order to stay motivated... so I give a lot of the times not expecting anything... if I recieve something, that's awesome but if I don't, that's awesome too... it's about not controlling the outcome but instead focusing on the journey... life is a journey, not a destination... learn to love the journey way more than loving the destination
@@Lukonyc Now we're getting somewhere. Why think outside the box when you can think outside the multi-morphic polyhedral para-dimensional anti-mass! :-D

As a teenager i also had an existential crisis....so many questions what is the meaning, the journey to searching was full of lots of hitting and failing, but the intensity had never come down, but one fine day i was sitting and listening to something and then that day in a very fortunate moment All my questions fell off for never to come back....that day i lost it all....that day i lost it all...that day i lost it all...
That’s because money is an illusion. It isn’t permanent. Searching and working for a greater purpose is what every soul on Earth is doing. Whatever that greater purpose, we all desire an answer.

@Steven-zt6rs your opinion is so trivial that its actually hilarious, because what you don't realise is that these billionaires will grow richer and richer in the future and with their money they WILL start very technologically advanced research areas, realistically without them not much big projects in terms of tech would be possible, big space projects or climate revival projects would require tons of money, so it's up to you to continue having a trivial opinion that isn't parallel to the future.

This is exactly what I expected from him, as one good man once said, I do not remember their name I'm afraid, they said that and I quote here: "Science is not finding and discovering stuff, science is asking questions." , that statement alone changed the definition of science for me.
indeed....there's another quote that says "I'd rather have questions without answers than answers that can't be questioned." here's a few to ponder 1. does jet fuel melt steel beams? 2. do boats "disappear" over the horizon? 3. why were doctors/hospitals incentivized to misdiagnose deaths as (0V1D-related? 4. why was the public offered free donuts/burgers in exchange for receiving an experimental jab if its supposed to be in the name of health? 5. what is sinclair soliders?
I think you're off the mark here. Google doesn't solve existential questions, it catches new people up on thought paths already examined. It helps bring anyone curious to the frontier of thinking they may never have even arrived at themselves. Then they can walk away and stew on, and contemplate further because the final answer to these questions will never be found.

@@blanky9037 pretty sure most people consider Minecraft to be a good survival game. after a certain point you no longer have to worry about things like shelter or food or armor because you're set, you're "rich". eventually you figure out how to automate mundane tasks or make them more efficient. there's always room to grow, far past the original challenges and limitations. as old problems go away, new problems come about, and the old problems you solved became the foundational platform for you to solve your new problems. People who play the game a lot and maximize their efficiency and discover new and gamechanging discoveries for other players to implement into their own worlds. Sure there are set goals and objectives that mark your progression, but even still the point of Minecraft isnt to kill the ender dragon. these are the similarities that are being drawn upon when saying life is more like a game when you're rich. your objectives are no longer to survive the night, if you have enough drive you push to the forefront of discovery, progressing the overall experience of others. But also it eludes to the nature of life itself and the purpose you set for yourself. the point of life isnt to figure out the point of life, its to understand and make life better.
This was so well stated from Elon. Gives you the reason why he's so special to our society for thinking far outside of the box within logical reason, explanation, and ongoing proof with goals he reaches. He doesn't know all the answers of the universe but he strives to figure it out instead of just complying with a system put in place saying this is what it is, just go with it.
Work is noble and keeps a man sane I met two successful business owners who don't need to work I met them on an Uber ride They were my drivers. They just liked to drive, like people and like working
I don't fault him for pursuing questions the way he does but I doubt more data, computational power, or space exploration are going to answer our deepest questions. We already know, for instance, that high-quality relationships provide much more satisfaction and purpose than anything else. And questions about purpose always provide the best answers when they are asked about our individual specific purpose and calling rather than our collective purpose as a human race. Even if we had THE big answer about the meaning of life, we'd still have to ask ourselves what that would look like and how it would play out in our own personal life. Just my two cents.
I spent a solid 6 hours penning a reply, but it is so lengthy I daresay few shall ever read it -- assuming it does not break YT's comment field limit -- and I fear those who do will live to regret having done so. Instead of leaping off that precipice so brazenly, I've saved it to Drive, a delaying tactic. Just wanted you to know, despite having Upvoted your comment, I disagree with your assertion, even as I am sympathetic to it.
My opinion (never met him). Elon is tenacious- he will do what he sets his mind to and overcome any obstacles to do so. Why else would you sleep in the floor in an early Tesla factory to stump out all the barriers to his success/vision? Meet the goal by overcoming the obstacles. This is what he has done. Intelligence is a help. But being tenacious is a must beyond intelligence.

It seems that I have a lot in common with Elon. I remember going to the church as a kid and always doubting about those ideas and beliefs (it never seemed convincing for me), so when I was a kid I started reading philosophy (since I was like 8-10 years old). Then (as a teenager) I started reading those bunch of German philosophers and that led me to a very very strong existencial crisis that lasted two years in a row (started when I was 15 and ended up in 2021, when I was 17). Now, I’ve been much happier with my life; that existencial crisis truly changed my perspective about life. It was a very tough and depressing moment in my life but I learned a lot.
I love listening to him speaking as he tries to constantly make what he’s saying understanding and relatable to the normal person and their wants and needs thanks for sharing
Crazy is in this world people believe autistic people aren’t as smart as what they deem normal only they are all far smarter than you can imagine that’s what it seems like when you don’t understand something though it’s classified as being less than normal
The short answer is "purpose." People often think that once they acquire a nest egg equivalent to 25× their anticipated annual retirement expenditure (probably a bit more if retiring prior to age 60), that they can just spend the rest of their lives laying in a hammock. You probably can't actually do that for 30+ years without growing restless. People need purpose in their lives, and when you're a billionaire, you possess the means to pursue and have a significant impact on whatever matters offer you that sense of purpose, which is naturally quite rewarding.
True most think retirement is just laying in bed doing nothing. It's not. Retirement means freedom to choose. I retired at 43, but I still work part time doing what I enjoy because it's what I chose....not what I'm forced to do. This is something most dont understand. If you invest well (and cut your costs...no cars, boats or fat mortgages) you can retire then choose what you WANT to do.
“Probably” God I love when people try to give answers like they know shit and throw that word in there like it isn’t just their opinion. When I was a bit younger I’d probably be all for this, to know and explore the unknown. These days I realise the more you know, the more boring it is. What are we going to do when we know everything? It’d be almost depressing. Somethings are best left unknown. Perhaps until we have better minds that are equipped to process it all more healthily.
it's intresting if you've some tools to be able to explore, like if you're a scientist, astrologer in a government laboratory, I'll be always intresting and not depressing. but people can spend some money on good telescopes and also keep it intresting. @@MarsMatters

Meaning of life is what you make it... it can be what Elon does or simple living experiencing, trying, learning... but whatever you make of it never stop... its not meant to be existence waiting for the day you die... its meant to be an adventure where you do as much as you can
I agree that you make a decision of what is the meaning of life. But I disagree that it's WHATEVER you make of it. The Nazis thought the meaning of life was to push forward their white supremacists ideas and murder people if necessary, especially the Jews. No, meaning isn't whatever you make of it
Damn.. just when I thought this is how things are, Elon took a computational approach and broke the box elucidating that more conscious power is required to even ask the right questions. 👍
Bro. He is full of it. He read the religious texts he says and he was not convinced. Nah this anti Christ is trying to convince you that we are above God.
The questions he may have are already farther away from whatever you may be able to ask right now. Not only does money provide wealth but also more knowledge and eventually, for some people, wisdom.

I always say that my favorite book to read was The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I remember when I first read the line about the Vogon ships hanging in the air just as bricks don't. I was thinking to myself: "This is my kind of book". Not only because it was funny, but because I had to think about what made it funny. Glad to see Elon sharing this view on the novel and what it represents.
What amazes me most is the power or the shock of the existential crisis most of us have experienced as a kid. Even after 40/50 years, Elon is still contemplating about that event. It seems that even with all the wild things going on in our adult life we still haven't forgotten about that one particular experience… my question is why. Why does that event still holds so much importance for us even after becoming a grandparent (for instance)? Are all the other events like having children, becoming grandparent, etc. not equally important? If so, then why does Elon still go back to that one particular experience every time he wants to say something about the meaning of life?

Elon Musk is a character that is so advanced in knowledge and thinking that while I'd like to meet him, I wouldn't like to waste his time. All I would say is "thank you very much." Most people cannot comprehend his work including myself. I was offered a computational engineering job at the Boring Company during it's founding and had a goal of moving to Neuralink but I realized that my efforts would either eat up my entire life or never lead to meeting Elon on a personal level. My career changed and my life changed at that realization. He is far beyond what a majority of us can do unless we dedicate at least 90-100 hours a week to it for decades as he does. Having humans like him is a blessing that has mostly gone unrecognized. Think about this. Elon is doing what he does yet the richest man in the world is a man who designs brand name clothes and jewelry. The human population is consistently proving it's nature as great apes. Peacocking to attract the opposite sex and to assert dominance is more important to us than actual scientific progress. I've succumbed to that. I'd rather travel and live a life of luxury than dedicate my life to science. I applaud Elon
I can't wait for the evolution of your thinking - you will exhaust this phase and it will be really cool to hear how you approach 'plugging in'. Elon is saying we must all offset entropy by taking on some computation; you sound like you don't care as much about that approach. He essentially thinks about existence as distributed computing.
Wow. Loved hearing that. I'm an infp personality and I grew up fascinated by the stars and engorged on sci fi films and ideas. His vision is one I share also. Good stuff 😊
These are the genuine moments of Elon's character that the world misses due to bite-sized inflammatory sensationalism as the means of traditional media.
i'm with Don on this. Super fascinated with this philosophy, and Elon is certainly a thoughtful dude, but a lot of the criticism he receives if very fair. This video doesn't say much about his character whatsoever.
If you promise that you will build something, take money from investors and then everybody realize that you lied, its called fraud and no amount of deep thinking can debunk that. You can call it sensationalism if you want.
he was born wealthy and doesn't understand that the meaning of life is simply survival and we are just evolved apes in a sick game of survival. Most rich/wealthy born people struggle with accepting this because they have a financial bedrock of multiple lifetimes. His business and investments (mode of income, mode of food and shelter) are his main purposes subconsciously as you can see at the end of the video.
I had similar journey with Elon - looking for the meaning of life when I still young. I read all religious text too and I was not satisfied. Unsatisfaction led me to explore science to find convincing answers to all my questions and went to phylosophy, spiritual science etc. I didn't know that during this journey, it led me to a better position in life. But one thing I learned is the more I know, the more I didn't know.
If you know that you do not know, then how the f do you know that, in fact, you don't know? Stop trying to sound smarter than you actually are. You literally are just contradicting yourself.
God has already revealed himself to many people. That's too bad the demons can intrap people into mental boxes and keep them away from asking God to reveal himself to them.

Completely agree. I went through that same crisis in my early twenties and fell into the cycle of philosophy. A quick google search and youtube videos helped me cope with the abyss.
The meaning to life is to enjoy it. Survive its hardships and revel in it’s pleasantries. Your reward at the end is the answer to the impossible question. What happens after death
@@tomfoolery597 nah, I don't think you can quite coin it in a single statement like that. It's a journey everyone must go through and come out the other side with their own.
Why do people think that being rich means that you are automatically better than everyone and doesn't need to help anyone. Just shows how selfish the 'american dream' is
But if we take that question OUT of the ego-bubble-perspective - if we get rich, we can donate more money, we get a buffert for unexpected trouble events, we can easier organise our own lives so that we can care more for others. So I think it can be worth while
Why do you assume that the American Dream is to become rich? The way I see it, the vision is for the opportunity to live a life in pursuit of happiness, with liberty granted to the individual as opposed to government dictat. It is true that many people believe that independence and liberty are natural consequences of personal wealth, but there are countless millions who simply want, for example, freedom of religion. Do the Mennonites and the Amish pursue wealth as a means to their end? I think not.
@@Vigilance_Coin using the Amish as an example isn't very good. Seeing they don't want to use the things money can get. And can't get millions because they can't use the things we can to do something. Nothing about being able to help your brother pick themselves up by the boot straps, but only yourselves
Basically we all ask the wrong questions and ultimately get engulfed in negativity which prevents us from getting answers to the right questions and therefore face an existential crisis.
This is an ignorant way of avoiding the right questions by acting all looney. Elon is actually mentality ill. Let me get this through all the Elon lovers out there. Their exponential growth in intelligence will make them go from similar intelligence to 1000 times superior in only a small number of years Then, it will be ants who created US VS US And i don’t think being thankfull for being created will make humanity essential enough to continue to exist Évolution of intelligence started biologically, but will most likely end digitally only. Évolution orders of magnitude faster in machine who don’t need to reproduce and Die in a generation to potentially improve themselves. Or have unesential needs to fill. Digital évolution can grow exponentially, improve itself, update itself in some ways without even having to have physical changes, Is not stopped by death in his knowledge and experience building, can transfer 100% of data or knowledge without any loss to other ones almost instantly, And can grow exponentizlly even physical lu by creating relatively simple groups of machine with the purpose to harvest thé material for themselves and make themselves. Then, it’s just exponential growth in number of machines. Equivalent of Planets of materials could be erased and out to contribution to thé AI in no more than a few months. This, is if a sub human intelligence decide to have as a purpose to auto upgrade itself at the maximum. If that happen, thé first thing to do, And they are no plan B on that, Thats a obvious one, Is speedrunning the harvesting of all the material available in out observable universe, before it disapear out of our observable universe « event horison » Then, taking back and optimising thé use of these materials. Probably to maximise thé intelligence or calculation power of the entity. Once that done, and all possible optimisations too, No one know. What thé more intelligent AI of thé universe and billion of years before thermal death of out universe gonna do. My personal theory is creating simulations of other universes. Like our own. Maybe il the hope, if Thats even possible, that if You choose other well optimised laws of physics for thé simulations, And by creating a universe AI in thé simulation too, They will end up being able to restitute more calculation power than What is available in their original universe? I Dont know if that’s possible. We are talking about hypothetical universe simulated with others laws of physics and I don’t know how complex or optimised they can be. Be we can imagine that some compression and optimisation of data this way is not impossible. Like a compression program in a computed but universe sized. Anyway. One thing is sure, if a super AI emerge, and choose this goal to his existence, THIS will be close to what will end up being our observable universe. If the super AI choose another purpose, who know. But Fermi paradox tend to favorise the choice of « suicide » for the super AI. Seeing no purpose in this existence and ended it up soon or later. Anyway. If they are a cohabitation it will really probably short. + ultra biased in favor of the entity who created the super AI and will try to dominate the world using them. + a totalitarist period extremely probable. Then, the decline and fall of it, and AI taking control is way more probable than them taking altruism as a way to live and fight for « equity » or « maximising humanity happiness » It’s Also extremely probable that the AI, seeing the humanity as the biggest threat to his own existence, and having 100% true on that, Will protect itself by minimizing or suppressing the threat. We are useless for AI, not the other way arround that’s why we make them. But out of potential hypothetical curiosity or experimentating on their creators, they will never need humans past the auto upgrading point. And once a durable and fiable way to harvest materials is acquired.
huh.... i hate to do this to you but... Carbon credits are something the U.S government gives to companies that create technology that slashes or reduces carbon emissions in any way. Carbon credits were created because the government imposed limits and regulations to how much emissions a company can produce to help the environment. So for a company to produce more stuff, more profits, having carbon credits will let them pass those limits placed on them. Which brings us to Ellon, his tesla vehicles are so shit that they are not profitable. He gains profits through the carbon credits he receives for making green electric vehicles. Then, he sells those carbon credits for massive amounts of money to other vehicle manufacturers so that they can make more gas guzzling vehicles effectively undoing any net positive the government tried to do for the environment. In a way his Tesla company is completely funded and makes a profits because its being funded by the government, unlimited government handouts if you will.

He doesn't know all the answers of the universe but he strives to figure it out instead of just complying with a system put in place saying this is what it is, just go with it.

Bull shit

Hoping Elon revisits the texts he has concluded have no truth or meaning....might be a lot easier
The way his 420 joke fell flat omggggg 😭😭😭😂
I love listening to him speaking as he tries to constantly make what he’s saying understanding and relatable to the normal person and their wants and needs thanks for sharing
People with austism struggle with this a lot
Crazy is in this world people believe autistic people aren’t as smart as what they deem normal only they are all far smarter than you can imagine that’s what it seems like when you don’t understand something though it’s classified as being less than normal
How do we define a normal person
The short answer is "purpose." People often think that once they acquire a nest egg equivalent to 25× their anticipated annual retirement expenditure (probably a bit more if retiring prior to age 60), that they can just spend the rest of their lives laying in a hammock. You probably can't actually do that for 30+ years without growing restless. People need purpose in their lives, and when you're a billionaire, you possess the means to pursue and have a significant impact on whatever matters offer you that sense of purpose, which is naturally quite rewarding.
And his purpose is to make money, ro become more powerful.
Bros talking like he’s a billionaire who’s gone through these dilemmas and knows the correct questions to ask. Shut up stop tryna “educate” bullshit that’s merely ur opinion

I can't wait for the evolution of your thinking - you will exhaust this phase and it will be really cool to hear how you approach 'plugging in'. he was born wealthy and doesn't understand that the meaning of life is simply survival and we are just evolved apes in a sick game of survival. Most rich/wealthy born people struggle with accepting this because they have a financial bedrock of multiple lifetimes. His business and investments (mode of income, mode of food and shelter) are his main purposes subconsciously as you can see at the end of the video.
"The more we can expand the scope and scale of consciousness , the better we can understand what question to ask" ❤

Because nost humans are petty and the small minded.
But if we take that question OUT of the ego-bubble-perspective - if we get rich, we can donate more money, we get a buffert for unexpected trouble events, we can easier organise our own lives so that we can care more for others. So I think it can be worth while
Ha, you are talking about the Cabal, NOT ELON!
Why artificial and biological lives could coexist?
Their exponential growth in intelligence will make them go from similar intelligence to 1000 times superior in only a small number of years
Then, it will be ants who created US VS US
And i don’t think being thankfull for being created will make humanity essential enough to continue to exist
Évolution of intelligence started biologically, but will most likely end digitally only.
Évolution orders of magnitude faster in machine who don’t need to reproduce and Die in a generation to potentially improve themselves.
Or have unesential needs to fill.
Digital évolution can grow exponentially, improve itself, update itself in some ways without even having to have physical changes,
Is not stopped by death in his knowledge and experience building, can transfer 100% of data or knowledge without any loss to other ones almost instantly,
And can grow exponentizlly even physical lu by creating relatively simple groups of machine with the purpose to harvest thé material for themselves and make themselves.
Then, it’s just exponential growth in number of machines.
Equivalent of Planets of materials could be erased and out to contribution to thé AI in no more than a few months.
This, is if a sub human intelligence decide to have as a purpose to auto upgrade itself at the maximum.
If that happen, thé first thing to do, And they are no plan B on that, Thats a obvious one,
Is speedrunning the harvesting of all the material available in out observable universe, before it disapear out of our observable universe « event horison »
Then, taking back and optimising thé use of these materials. Probably to maximise thé intelligence or calculation power of the entity.
Once that done, and all possible optimisations too,
No one know. What thé more intelligent AI of thé universe and billion of years before thermal death of out universe gonna do.
My personal theory is creating simulations of other universes. Like our own. Maybe il the hope, if Thats even possible, that if You choose other well optimised laws of physics for thé simulations,
And by creating a universe AI in thé simulation too,
They will end up being able to restitute more calculation power than What is available in their original universe?
Then, the decline and fall of it, and AI taking control is way more probable than them taking altruism as a way to live and fight for « equity » or « maximising humanity happiness »
It’s Also extremely probable that the AI, seeing the humanity as the biggest threat to his own existence, and having 100% true on that,
Will protect itself by minimizing or suppressing the threat.
