    Superb Program. Wonderful and educative in every respect. No noisy rubbish music that is loud and drowns the narrator. Occasional music that is from South Africa which was very pleasant. Nicely documented and edited.

    This scenery ignites my nostalgia for southern Idaho and eastern Oregon. Watching the antelope bound through the tall grass sent me straight back in time to being a kid and hunting grouse with my dad. Were it not for the snow and rain, I'd be out exploring and camping in those same canyon lands now. BUT, this is the next best thing, especially after spending the weekend wrenching and wiring (also, thank you for your previous electrics video and justifying my use of crimps).
    You certainly have an eye for video production and ability to match; however, and more importantly, I truly find you inspiring as well as the company you keep (looking at you, Mr. Marsh). It's not just because of where you go or what you drive: More than that, it's because of your mix of pride and humility as an explorer in the most pleasant ratio. It's because of your generosity as a teacher, not an "expert". It's because the passion and respect for the land and your vehicles cannot help but shine through in each and every one of your productions.
    I have considered helping fund many content creators over the years via Patreon, but I never have. I think I lasted about two weeks before creating an account just so that I could be a part of your expeditions. As someone who works for a natural resource conservation agency in the states, I say all this because I really believe in what you're doing, in what you're producing, and I wanted you to know. Truly, thank you very much for sharing, Mr. White. I wish you all the best in your travels ahead. I'll certainly be watching!

    Went there in 1997, though I had to go via Purros because I was travelling alone having hired single cab hilux & also the result of usual Summer rains which also resulted in a detour/backtrack. I have seen a lot of outback Aus & this place is up there with it or in fact exceeds it for the sense of landscape beauty, isolation & the sense of nature untouched. I would go back there tomorrow if I could.

    Great film, spetacular landscape and very well balanced narrative. There ´s space for local people interaction ( I couldn´t imagine someone who don´t know banana! )what a can´t imagineand solitude (what could be conflicting for some wilderness fanatics), technical advice without being "comercial". I am trying to understand what I like the most in your films and I think it´s about the sensible story you tell about enjoying nature/places. It´s not the so comon "conquering nature with hard machines" but about using vehicle as a tool (not an end) for enjoying nature, contact local people and so on. And it´s about balance between different thinks.

    Andrew, I like you videos. You are absolutely very good at what you do and your adventures are amazing. Please keep them coming. However, I don't think you should get involved in this rant, thumbs down, thumbs up. Who cares if you get few thumbs down. Most people like your videos. If you are professional at what you do then why get involved with these people, why waste the time and energy.
    When you do respond, as in this case, you do come off a little arrogant and that might turn some people down. If you do want to get involved then you should question yourself why you got thumbs down instead of calling these people names. People are entitled to an opinion and to like or dislike your videos.
    I hope you do not take this comment the wrong way. I like your videos. I like what you do and I did give you thumbs up.

    • @overland-workshop
      @overland-workshop  7 лет назад +3

      Thanks for your comment. It's by no means a rant. When it's a rant, you'll know! It was a comment about the difficult to understand thumbs downs I get. I like to interact with my viewers but if I have to tread lightly when I do, then I won't bother. I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve, and this is an example of that. Its me. And my videos are me - nothing added and nothing taken away. I believe thumbs up and/or down should be about the worthiness of the video to be watched, not based on the comments or opinions contained within the video. Just my opinion.

    Hi Andrew
    I really enjoy your longer videos, when your stuck at work on a cold wet monday theres nothing better then joining you on a jaunt round Africa and feeling I'm there with you.
    Have you thought of doing a joint venture/ trip/ expedition with Ray Mears ?? Have you heard of Ray Mears ??
    He has a great knowledge Africa (as you do) but also the ways and means of getting water, what plants/ berries are edible aswell as survival tactics in differant regions, which are essential should you have a breakdown or an injury ???
    You never know when things are going to wrong either with a vehicle, a member of your party or a stranger you've come across.
    Your both great presenters with interesting, intelligent commentary, You both have a passion for the outdoors and nature, as well as a true respect for its preservation.
    Keep up the great work and I look forward to your next trip.

      Toxic weasel it's funny you mention Ray Mears. When I saw the first episode of this series I was reminded of documentary Mears produced in which he recounted the tragic tale of two German travellers who flew to Australia and hired a 4wd to drive to Lake Eyre. Needless to say, with no gear and no idea in one of the remotest places in the world, it all went terribly wrong. Quite the polar opposite of the well outfitted and well planned adventure Andrew is reliving.

    The picture of the Land Cruiser with Milky Way above, was that photoshopped or does it actually look that bright and detailed. Stunning series Andrew and Paul. I love your work.

    • @overland-workshop
      @overland-workshop  7 лет назад +1

      What do you mean by photoshopped? There are different levels. But it is a single image with the sky enhanced so that the stars can be seen more clearly - as it was in real life. The camera is a Sony A7S which is remarkable in low light. I shoot RAW, which means the pic, as the camera produces it, has contrast removed and the stars are almost invisible. But that is on purpose because a RAW data file allows me to manipulate it. Ever good photographer in the planet (with out a single exception) uses RAW files and photoshop to get the image how they want. Like we used to do in a darkroom. It is very much part of digital photography, Without it, we leave the camera to do the manipulation. Sorry for the lecture, but its important to me that people understand this. So the phrase 'photoshopped' can mean two things. Giving an animal three heads or something, or creativity in the hands of the photographer. But if it helps, this is almost exactly how it looked with the naked eye.

    • @knightvision4u
      @knightvision4u 7 лет назад +1

      4xOverland No I wasn't questioning the legitimacy of the photograph I was asking if the sky actually looked like that. I have never seen a sky like that before and being that we live in a world where light pollution degrades the sky to such a drastic degree, I think my question was reasonable. As for the lecture I took no offense, I would like nothing more than to listen to you speak on photography. So thank you for the lecture and most of all the beautiful picture of the sky.

    Great video, again. How did you patch the tyre?

    • @overland-workshop
      @overland-workshop  7 лет назад +1

      We used a rubber string plug and that remained in the tyre until the end of the trip in Windhoek, seven days later. Because Paul managed to stop the vehicle with air still in the tyre, we knew that we had not damaged it by running it flat. In Windhoek, we used a mushroom plug inserted from the inside, and the tyre is still running on that truck today.

    I just recently discovered your channel and might I say it's all I watch now! amazing stuff. however I do want to ask that if the 1HZ engine in the 70 series caused shortcomings power wise during this trip?. I ask because I'm contemplating purchasing one over the V8. thanks

    • @overland-workshop
      @overland-workshop  7 лет назад +1

      I have owned four 1HZ engined Land Cruisers, so I know it well. My answer: Yes and no. But mostly no. If you want simplicity, the 1HZ is king. If power is important, obviously the V8. Very little space under the bonnet for batteries etc in the V8. If it breaks (which is unlikely) the V8 is intimidating. I own a V8 now in Australia. Part of me prefers the 1HZ. But its a dog. Let's face it!

    Have you ever considered to bring a water purifier, like an MSR Guardian?

      Ah ok, I was just wondering since you talked about the water quality this episode and before, it seemed like a good idea to carry something. You could run the local water through it and not have to worry as much about the quality of the water.

    Is there a car repair shop near where you got the metal stuck in the wheel?

    Thanks for all the info and very interesting videos ... just a question why cant I find a video on the patrol trying to get my first overland, but not sure if to go patrol 2008 wich more pocket friendly in my county ... or a Toyota land cruiser 79 witch is more expensive ?

      I have done no trips in a Patrol at all - which is unfortunate. Nissan has never wanted to loan me one.

      Got to be 1.7 bar back 1.5 bar front with that weight. That was mine with a much heavier Land Cruiser 200

      Combined, Paul and I have over 70 years of overlanding experience in the world's most remote places. We are cautious and plan well.
