    Seen them at least 2 dozen times. They were the house band at the Grande (where this was recorded). I found out many years later my sister dated Rob Tyner .

    Genius! I'm late to this party but long live Wayne! I hope to cover some of his stuff. I wonder if he wrote The American Ruse. The MC5 was amazing! Other classics Ramblin' Rose (Kramer voc), Come Together, Lookin At You, Human Being Lawnmower, Shakin Street, High School, Starship and the explosive blues tune Motor City's Burnin'!

    Goodnight Brother Wayne, thanks for the testimonial.
    The MC5 were so dangerous, the FBI kept them under surveillance, they had a "Spiritual Advisor" for a manager, it doesnt get much better than that!
    For more, I'd say, Ramblin' Rose, or, I Can Only Give You Everything.... there is some good live footage from The Beat Club amongst others, which you've found already, worth checking out just for singer, Rob Tyler's hair and Wayne and Fred 'Sonic' Smith ( husband of Patti Smith) doing their synchronised guitar moves.
    On a related note, the first verse of the Clash song, Jail Guitar Doors, is about Wayne. It's also the name of a charity he was heavily involved in alongside Billy Bragg. Essentially they give guitars to prison inmates and encourage them to write songs about their experiences.
    You can find out a bit more about Wayne, a hilarious story involving the song and Bill Bragg, and his involvement with Jail Guitar Doors here..

    MC5 (Motor City Five) were a 'Garage' and (proto) Punk band and used to play at CBGB in New York, they were from Lincoln Park, Michigan, in the mid '60s at first they had a Psychedelic sound which changed later.

    I too was late discovering The MC5.
    These guys were the real deal...pure, original, and raw. I was stunned going through videos of their live shows... absolute 🔥. They definitely burned white hot. RIP to Wayne Kramer. I recommend you look into Wayne's life... his prison time and then his work with prisoners after getting out is inspiring and interesting.

    Thank you for video reaction and tribute. MC5 known for three albums 1969 to 1971, with the first Kick Out the Jams an amazing live album, fantastic songs including Rocket Reducer No. 62 (Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa), Starship etc. ......high energy.

    MC5 were definitely proto punk. The Damned covered Looking at You. Also, the MC5 were Motorhead's Lemmy's favourite band. Yeah, when you get around to doing another MC5 song, I would recommend Looking at You which show cases Kramer's fiery guttering.

  • @mattjohn4731
    @mattjohn4731 7 месяцев назад +1

    Kick Out The Jams was covered by Henry Rollins w Bad Brains (for film Pump Up The Volume) and it caused a huge scandal with a retailer in Detroit. Wayne founded an org Jail Guitar Doors to give guitars to inmates. Music curbs violence, and inmates need humane treatment. I'm an abolitionist of prisons especially the sketchy corporate ones. Also the prison industry influenced hip-hop to promote reckless outlaw behaviors and invest in prisons

    I seen this news yesterday and combed Wikipedia and RUclips for info .
    I was in a punk band years ago n my mate said we were gonna do a Cover of a RATM song called “ Kick out the Jams “- once I’d learned the bass part it was a joy to play and it was years later my mate was exposed as a Twat as it turned out a band I’d never heard of ( clearly he hadn’t either ) called MC5 had written it and had a seminal live recording of it . I’m now VERY familiar with it and I love it . I had to endure ,without replying the other day ,the slings and arrows of someone stating as a fact that The Velvet Underground had kicked off punk .. 🙄.. bollocks !
    You ask any of the main names in the punk movement who inspired them and MC5 invariably comes up and now Ive heard more of their early stuff 69-72 that makes perfect sense to me , ask Dave Grohl , he’ll tell you !
    This is an electrifying live performance, I’ve seen it many times now , Wayne really rocks it out and the lead singers Afro is really something to behold 😅, they’ve left an enormous legacy behind 👏

When I was 18 I made the ultimate faux pas with my girlfriend when I asked her if it was true that ladies had their periods on the 28th of each month … 🤦‍♂️.. true btw ! I had to chuck her out of sheer embarrassment once my mum confirmed how thick I was by rolling around the floor laughing at me - I blame it on a 60’s n 70’s. To " Kick Out The Jams" means that you and your band/gang/brothers are all the way in and on fire, take no prisoners whether it James Brown or Motorhead. This recording is essential but a sonic mess, the drums are almost non existent. They were and for me always will be what a rock band should aspire to be. Listen to their final studio LP " High Time " as well.
