Man this sucks. I picked up Wayne's book "The Hard Stuff" at flea market south of Detroit. He had kicked the drugs and booze and adopted a child late in life. He said that was his greatest joy. Rest in Peace Brother Wayne.

Bloody hell bad news .Saw 3 members of the Mc5 when they toured here in Australia ,fantastic show and met him afterwards ,nice bloke .
Was fortunate to see Wayne live in 2003 opening for Cheap Trick. Got to meet him as well. Wonderful guy! He put out a few amazing solo albums in the late 90's early 00's - The Hard Stuff, Dangerous Madness, Citizen Wayne, & Adult World. All fantastic. Legendary!
A driving force of a band that was truly revolutionary - in more ways than just musical - their time. Was 13 and in 8th grade when the album came out. Wasn't allowed in the house for quite some time but even then, everyone I knew at the time new who the MC5 was. Very saddened to hear of his passing. Many thanks to Wayne Kramer for his significant role in the music played to this day and hope he rests well in peace after having a some challenges life while with us. Thanks, Pete, for your always thoughtful tributes to these performers.

Had some cool solo albums in the 90s as well. Heavy stuff. My band got to open for him a couple of times.
BOC brought them some recognition with their awesome cover of “Kick Out The Jams” on the best selling Some Enchanted Evening.

I Absolutely Loved Wayne's music, from The MC5 right through is whole career. i was lucky enough to speak to him via email in 1999. I asked him if I could send a demo of my band over him to, listen and he said yeah man send it over. I was soo excited at he said yes, so I immediately sat down and put the cd in a box and wrote down his address on the box and my return address on the back. Then about 2 weeks after that I went to jail for about 6 months, when I arrived home the cd that I had sent Wayne was back at my place, and when I looked at it I hadn't written the street that his office was in, on it. Because I was so excited that he was going to listen to it, I rushed doing it. so it got all the way to California from Brisbane, Australia, and got sent straight back, because they didn't know what street to deliver it to. And back then I didn't know Wayne's history, that he had done time. So I didn't resend it because I didn't know what to say, because I was embarrassed about being in Jail. So he never got the cd. I did talk to him a few years later, but about other stuff, not to send him any more of my music. R.I.P. Wayne Kramer : Legend ..
When I discovered MC5 it was like a high energy drug. All three of there albums were great different but always pure hard Rock & Roll. His guitar playing was always growing and exploring. His solo albums were good and he even dipped his toes into Jazz. The album he did with Alice Cooper was fantastic: Detroit Stories. He was doing film and TV scores in his later years. RIP Wayne. Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa!
So glad I got to see him supporting Alice Cooper a few years back, with MC50 - they were great 🤘👽🤘
An outstanding guitarist, and not as well known as he deserved. In interviews later in his life he also came across as a centered and articulate gentleman. I trust he is now at peace.
High Time is their best album, it truly doesn't get the attention it deserves.

I went to school with Wayne’s sister. Saw them open for Cactus
MC5 had an amazing energy in concert, and Wayne was a big part of that. I discovered them very belatedly, through the first of many mix tapes that a record store manager friend made for me, back in '87, but that tape blew my mind! Side one was the "Kick Out The Jams" album. Side two was "Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols." I played that tape countless times! Wayne, you will be missed! Thanks, Pete!

Wayne and I have the same birthday. I'm 15 years younger. In the eighties when I was in college working as a DJ he sent me a copy of his music.
Sad to hear of waynes passing . Saw him live with Brian James from the dammed , clem burke from blondie , and the stone roses mani , all playing together as mad for the racket in a small club in Dublin. Powerhouse of a performer . Thanks Wayne . R.i.P

Nice tribute as always Pete. I played their three albums last night before getting into Wayne's solo albums. Those first two are really good and now finishing with Lexington for the fifth solo album I have by him. R.I.P.

I was so sad to hear that Wayne passed. Such a beast of a guitar player. I had this daydream-fantasy that he should join Deep Purple after I heard Morse left the band. I hope that his record was close enough to done that Ezrin can finish and release it.

Oh god, I'm sorry, I meant to say "left," and just duplicated "passed" from Wayne's passing. I'm glad Steve Morse has been playing some of his own shows post Deep Purple, also a monster player, the last streak of DP albums have been great

Wayne and Ted Nugent took lessons from the same teacher in Detroit. Saw Kramer sit in on a Nugent show back in 1974.

First we lost Rob tyner then we lost Fred both in early 90s.
Can't Remember which one I think it was Fred that was with Patti Smith

Also lost the bassist, Michael Davis. Dennis Thompson, the drummer, is the only surviving member.

I read his autobiography 2 years ago. At least he outgrew some of the libtard stuff. He also had some excellent solo cd's that were also very inexpensive.
As far as I could see, the MC5's political posturing, the White Panther thing, the posing with guns, the whole 'dope, guns & f*cking in the streets' thing, was mostly down to their manager John Sinclair. Wayne, in his later years, talked with the wisdom & experience of someone who'd been swallowed by the system & shat out the other side.
